I'm a historian and love to talk about movies. Both of which are my passion and I have worked in both industries.
This week I talk about one of the very few Hollywood war movies to take place during The Korean War. One of my favoruites, which includes an all-star cast and a very interesting history behind it.
Zulu is a 1964 war movie staring Stanley Baker and Micheal Caine. The film deplicts the Battle of Rourke's Drift, an 1879 last-stand battle in south Africa during the Anglo-Zulu War. One of my favourite war films, this one was considered controvercial due to its portrail of the Zulu Kingdom. Add into that it's release druing the Cold War and Zulu is not controversial but very cultrually significant as well.
One of my favorutie war films of all time, the 1998 Terrance Mallack directed remake of The Thin Red Line is a war movie masterpiece. Ever wanted to know more about the film, the book its based on as well as some of the history behind the Battle of Guadacanal? Then you're in luck because this week I dig deep into the history behind this amazing piece of cinema. Please enjoy!
