Our guest today is Paul Francis. When Francis read about NASA's problem with astronauts exercising in space, he contacted the agency about a technology he had developed using resistance instead of weights. He later licensed that SpiraFlex technology to Nautilus, and they used it to develop the Bowflex Revolution home gym. Francis came up with a way to miniaturize the components and launch OYO Fitness, which offers the DoubleFlex Portable Gym and a follow-up product called DoubleFlex Black. Studies show resistance training can be a “fountain of youth”, building bone and muscle, burning fat, and making you feel better, look younger, and live longer. OYO Fitness uses patented SpiraFlex technology to create resistive exercise products that are lightweight, compact, and provide the same benefits as free weights, without the weights.Paul Francis, OYO Fitness CEO and Inventor of Spiraflex and DoubleFlex, left the architectural profession and has been an inventor for 31 years (over 20 US and 32 foreign patents), launching innovative products in the hardware, personal care and fitness industries. In addition to managing development, production and marketing/sales, he has also demonstrated his inventions on QVC (US, Canada, Europe), HSN and created the television commercials. His company SpiraFlex, Inc. developed the Bowflex Revolution home gym (200 million in sales) and NASA’s Resistive Exercise Device on the International Space Station. He founded OYO Fitness and launched the DoubleFlex portable gym in January of 2016. “I founded OYO Fitness to build a company that provides effective, fun, fitness solutions that eliminate barriers to achieving and maintaining health. Studies show resistance training builds bone and muscle, burns fat and makes you feel better, look younger and live longer. Our OYO team strives to create innovative products you can get fit with OYO (On Your Own), that help you meet and beat life’s challenges!”In addition to the original DoubleFlex, Paul has just spearheaded the OYO Fitness® Kickstarter campaign for the new DoubleFlex® Black, a predecessor to the original DoubleFlex. With a crowdfunding goal of $30,000, OYO Fitness met and surpassed their Kickstarter goal in less than a week. The DoubleFlex Black is the second in the DoubleFlex product line, which improves on its predecessor’s lightweight, handheld design. The DoubleFlex is specifically designed to provide an effective total body workout; the all-in-one fitness unit allows for both adduction and abduction – opening and closing motions – exercises, which target opposing muscle groups in the same movement in order to balance muscle growth and development.air date: 12/30/16
