In the final episode of At the Bar, Kristin and Lindsay talk about diversity in the food industry. Kristin shares some of her earliest memories of food from her childhood and how it impacted her life—how flavors from different cultures were introduced to her at an early age. She also talks about how sutble the discrimination is in the food industry and the cultural appropriation of foods from different cultures.   Kristin and Lindsay chat with Meiko Temple, a Texas-based food blogger and the founder of Meiko and the Dish. She shares the story of how she left the corporate world to follow her passion for cooking by launching a blog. She also talks about her experiences as a Black woman in the food world, and why honoring the origins of each dish is critical for media and other bloggers. Meiko shares her insight on how the food community can make changes to be more inclusive.   To connect with Meiko Temple:   Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/meikoandthedish/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/MeikoAndTheDish/ Website: https://meikoandthedish.com/   Join the At The Bar Community:   Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/atthebarpod/  Web: https://www.atthebarpod.com/   Connect with Kristin Smith:   Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/krispxkristin/ Web: https://www.krispxkristin.com/    Connect with Lindsay Silberman:   Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/lindsaysilb/ Web: https://www.lindsaysilberman.com/

This week, Kristin and Lindsay talk about diversity in fashion and beauty. Kristin shares a number of personal experiences—like the time she emailed a big-name retailer to ask why they didn’t have Black models, and received a disingenuous, half-hearted response. (Spoiler alert: the brand posted a Black square on their Instagram account last month.) She also talks about the difficulties Black women face at hair salons and in the beauty aisles of drugstores.    Kristin and Lindsay also chat with Brittany Hennessy, the best-selling author of “INFLUENCER: Building Your Personal Brand In The Age Of Social Media.”   Brittany joins At the Bar to shed some light on the reasons why white influencers and models have historically received more offers than Black influencers and models, as well as the lack of diversity in the teams that are tasked with casting for social media campaigns.   We also explore “cancel culture” and the issues that brands are currently having in their attempt to become more diverse.   To connect with Brittany Hennessy:   Website: https://www.brittanyhennessy.com/ Carbon August: https://www.carbonaugust.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/mrsbrittanyhennessy/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/brittanyphennessy   Join the At The Bar Community:   Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/atthebarpod/  Web: https://www.atthebarpod.com/   Connect with Kristin Smith:   Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/krispxkristin/ Web: https://www.krispxkristin.com/    Connect with Lindsay Silberman:   Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/lindsaysilb/ Web: https://www.lindsaysilberman.com/

Oneika Raymond is a journalist, media personality, and Travel Channel host whose adventures have taken her to over 115 countries on 6 continents.   She chronicles her experiences on her blog and on Instagram (@oneikatraveller), and frequently uses her platform to shed light on racial injustice within the travel industry.   For our travel-themed episode, Oneika joins At the Bar to discuss how she followed her passion and made the unexpected pivot from a career in education to a career in travel. She shares some eye-opening examples of the discrimination she’s faced within the luxury travel industry as a Black content creator, as well as insight into what brands—and travel enthusiasts—can do in order to be anti-racist.   We also touch on the “exclusivity” problem in travel journalism, how to keep the Black Lives Matter conversation alive, and the importance of diversifying the content you’re surrounding yourself with on Instagram and on social media as a whole. Get to know your hosts, Lindsay Silberman and Kristin Smith, and learn why we decided to start a podcast ten years after we met—while working at a bar—in New York City. Lindsay is a magazine-editor-turned-blogger, and Kristin is a media professional by day, and food blogger by night.   Kristin is biracial and Lindsay is white—and throughout our friendship, we've always had very honest, open conversations about race, and about life in general. Given the Black Lives Matter movement, we wanted to dive into a lot of these issues together, and bring you all into the conversation.    Our hope with this series is to inspire you to start having these conversations with your friends, family, and others in your life.   For our first episode, Kristin shares a little bit about her own personal story and experiences with racism. In future episodes, we'll be bringing in other diverse voices to talk about their own experiences.   We can promise you that after listening, you’ll be moved, enlightened, uncomfortable, and inspired—all in just 30 minutes.   Get in touch with us:   Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/atthebarpod/  Web: https://www.atthebarpod.com/   Connect with Kristin Smith:   Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/krispxkristin/ Web: https://www.krispxkristin.com/    Connect with Lindsay Silberman:   Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/lindsaysilb/ Web: https://www.lindsaysilberman.com/
