Brian #1: Making PyPI's test suite 81% faster Alexis Challande The PyPI backend is a project called Warehouse It's tested with pytest, and it's a large project, thousands of tests. Steps for speedup Parallelizing test execution with pytest-xdist 67% time reduction --numprocesses=auto allows for using all cores DB isolation - cool example of how to config postgress to give each test worker it's on db They used pytest-sugar to help with visualization, as xdist defaults to quite terse output Use Python 3.12's sys.monitoring to speed up coverage instrumentation 53% time reduction Nice example of using COVERAGE_CORE=sysmon Optimize test discovery Always use testpaths Sped up collection time. 66% reduction (collection was 10% of time) Not a huge savings, but it's 1 line of config Eliminate unnecessary imports Use python -X importtime Examine dependencies not used in testing. Their example: ddtrace A tool they use in production, but it also has a couple pytest plugins included Those plugins caused ddtrace to get imported Using -p:no ddtrace turns off the plugin bits Notes from Brian: I often get questions about if pytest is useful for large projects. Short answer: Yes! Longer answer: But you'll probably want to speed it up I need to extend this article with a general purpose “speeding up pytest” post or series. -p:no can also be used to turn off any plugin, even builtin ones. As the name suggests, FastAPI's strength is that it takes less effort to create functional, production-ready APIs to be consumed by other services. C: for parts of the code that need to be highly optimized, the team uses the lower-level C programming language Temporal: used for asynchronous workflows and operations inside OpenAI. Temporal is a neat workflow solution that makes multi-step workflows reliable even when individual steps crash, without much effort by developers. If there is one feature that helps app marketers to persevere through so much of a market change, it is adaptability. As app user acquisition costs were rising and privacy constraints in mobile emerged, marketers came up with the solution - web to app user acquisition channel. Rather than sending users directly to an app store, marketers now route users to a mobile web page first—typically one optimized for onboarding, education, or even a light product experience. This allows for better control over messaging, tracking, and personalization before nudging users to install the app. In this episode, we'll delve into the concept of web-first growth with Gessica, exploring the new playbook for acquiring app users. Sinds de dip in april zijn Microsoft, Alphabet, Amazon, Apple, Tesla, Nvidia én Meta de kartrekkers van Wall Street. Ze zijn zelfs goed voor bijna de helft van de stijging van de S&P 500. Waar hebben de zeven beurslievelingetjes die heropleving aan te danken? Dat vertellen we je in deze aflevering. Dan hebben we het ook over een andere groep aandelen die maar de eigen records blijft verbreken. Het ene na het andere land steekt miljarden in de defensie-industrie. Nu is het het Verenigd Koninkrijk dat zes nieuwe munitiefabrieken gaat bouwen, twaalf onderzeeërs gaat kopen en ook nog eens het aantal kernwapens wil uitbreiden. Je hoort natuurlijk ook over het nieuwste gedachtespinsel van Donald Trump. De onderhandelingen tussen de VS en China verliepen maar stroef, dus blaast hij de boel eens opnieuw op. China houdt zich volgens Trump niet aan de afspraken van de tijdelijke deal die in Zwitserland werd gesloten. En China vindt op zijn beurt weer dat de VS dat akkoord schendt. Es difícil de entender muchas veces, pero muchas veces elegir y hacer mejor, da mejores resultados. No te preguntes si podés hacerlo, preguntate si debés hacerlo. Incorporá las conversaciones difíciles: Si te resulta más fácil, deciles “conversaciones de crecimiento”. No dejes de hacerlo si creés que van a generar una situación de mejora con esa persona. Muchas veces sirve hacerte un punteo o notas para poder estar ordenado con el otro. Te prometo que siempre te sentís mejor después de tener esa conversación. No hagas todo por las personas que liderás:Empoderalos, no hagas las cosas por ellos. Si ellos no quieren crecer por su cuenta, vos no podés hacerlo por ellos. Hay que liderar y enseñar desde la experiencia y pensamiento resolutivo de cada uno. A veces es mejor preguntarles cómo lo harían ellos, desde el conocimiento. We all know the future rests upon us building heart-grounded, spirit-led communities that link humanity to the Web of Life. Donald Trump anda un tanto frustrado con Vladimir Putin debido al estancamiento de las negociaciones de paz en Ucrania. A través de redes sociales, ha expresado su inquietud, ha acusado a Putin de "jugar con fuego" y le ha advertido que, sin su intervención, Rusia habría tenido que afrontar graves consecuencias. Su secretaria de prensa, Karoline Leavitt, reiteró que Trump busca un acuerdo negociado, pero que tienen todas las opciones sobre la mesa, incluyendo posibles sanciones contra Rusia, que podrían aprobarse pronto. Trump ha criticado a Putin por la muerte de civiles, asegurando que "no sabe qué le pasa", mientras Rusia intensifica sus ataques, como un reciente bombardeo con más de 350 drones y misiles contra Ucrania. Durante su campaña, Trump prometió resolver la guerra en 24 horas, confiando en su supuesta buena relación con Putin. Sin embargo, las negociaciones han fracasado. Pero no está claro si esto doblegará a Putin, cuya economía depende por completo de la guerra. Rusia ha reestructurado su economía para un conflicto prolongado. Produce armamento de forma masiva y han reclutado soldados con altos salarios, lo que ha sostenido el crecimiento. Los avances militares, aunque lentos, le dan confianza para ignorar las negociaciones. El desafío para Putin es el futuro: desmontar esta economía de guerra será problemático. La industria armamentística, hoy motor económico del país, ha mejorado la vida de muchos rusos, pero una paz repentina podría causar desempleo y descontento. Esto podría forzar a Rusia a mantener una economía militarizada más allá de la paz. Eso genera comprensibles temores en países vecinos como los Bálticos o Kazajistán, que no descartan problemas en sus fronteras. La desmovilización de soldados curtidos en combate también plantea riesgos internos en el caso de que la reconversión de la economía rusa no se realice de forma gradual. Un cúmulo de problemas que Putin por ahora está esquivando, pero a cambio de agotar la paciencia de quien en los últimos cinco meses ha sido su mejor aliado.
