If you've ever flipped off a buddy driving past on the highway, stopped cold when you heard reveille, or felt physically uncomfortable when someone thanked you for your service, you already know what this episode is. Twenty habits from military life that never fully leave you, and that can seriously confuse the civilians around you. In this episode, I walk through the full list: from greeting your best friends with the middle finger to standing at the position of attention during the national anthem, from using military lingo in normal conversation to keeping contingency plans for a night at a concert. Some of these are funny. Some hit different. All of them are real. What if the most revolutionary thing you can do right now is introduce yourself to your neighbor and ask to borrow some salt?In this episode, Eileen is joined by Amber and Taylar, co-hosts of the Waking Up the Witch podcast — a storytelling show exploring life, death, religion, spirituality, sex, magic, and everything in between. Amber owns Moon Be's Wellness, a witchy brick-and-mortar boutique in southern Oregon, and is a Reiki master and psychic gifts teacher. Taylar is a hairstylist, community connector, and self-described magic-maker who believes her gift is helping people see their own power. Together they also run Moonlight and Magic, an events company bringing witchy community together in person. This conversation wanders beautifully through spiritual origin stories, the return of village culture, what manifestation actually means when you strip away the toxic positivity, and why authenticity might be the most powerful thing any of us can offer the collective right now.In this episode:-Amber's origin story: a Wiccan mom, healing oils made from kitchen spices as a child, Reiki, and the psychic gifts she once thought were a curse-Taylar's path: Catholic kindergarten, The Secret, a psychic hairstylist, too much wine, one shared microphone, and a podcast born from pure curiosity-Why the witch wound still shows up in how we hide ourselves, even from the people closest to us-The difference between fitting in and authentic belonging, and how living authentically is what plugs you into the collective circuit board-Why the law of attraction falls short without community, action, and reckoning with systemic harm-Victory Gardens, borrowing cups of sugar, and why the village is both the antidote and the answer-The healing that can only happen in relationship, not in solo inner work-Asking for help as a radical act, especially for women conditioned to never be a burden-Why spirituality doesn't have to be serious: it can be lipstick at the grocery store, a bird outside your window, or dancing at the gay club on Saturday"Get comfortable being uncomfortable. That's what leads you to the parts you're supposed to be in this world, in your community, in the revolution." — Amber"Spirituality can be silly and playful and messy. In 2010, producer David Gutnick travelled to Haiti soon after the devastating earthquake there. Embedding with a local family, he slept on the ground alongside hundreds of thousands of others, now homeless after the earthquake. The 7.3 magnitude earthquake killed more than 220,000 and some 300,000 were injured. Those survivors were left eking out survival in their already impoverished and insecure nation. David spent a day and a night living with The Merisier family, Nadine, her husband Madsen, their five children, a son and daughter-in-law, and two grandchildren. From our special summer archival doc series, this is 24 in Delmas 56
Send us Fan MailThe Lucid Dream Where I Woke Up Homeless… But It Didn't MatterIn this powerful episode, I share one of the most transformative lucid dreams from my awakening journey — the one I wrote about in my book Waking Up from the Dream.I found myself sitting on the floor of a busy mall over a train station, covered with a sleeping bag, while the world rushed past in panic. To everyone else I looked homeless. But inside, I had never felt richer or more awake. This dream taught me how to find deep stillness and aliveness even in the middle of chaos.Join me as I unpack:• Why lucid dreams are such powerful catalysts for spiritual awakening• How our nervous system limits what we can embody in waking life• The contrast between the rushing crowd and inner peace• Simple ways you can bring this awake presence into your daily lifeIf you've ever felt overwhelmed by the pace of modern life, this episode will remind you that true richness has nothing to do with circumstances.✨ What's the most powerful dream you've ever had? Drop it in the comments — I read every one.

What if the reason difficult conversations feel so impossible isn't because you're too sensitive, too anxious, or bad at communicating? What if you've spent years trying to find the perfect words—only to have your questions dismissed, your feelings turned against you, or the conversation somehow become about everything you did wrong? In this crossover episode of The Virtual Couch and Waking Up to Narcissism, Tony explores what has to happen before you can truly say the difficult thing. He breaks down the difference between ordinary fear and a nervous system that has learned through experience that vulnerability may come at a cost. You'll learn why explaining yourself more doesn't always lead to being understood, how emotionally mature and immature people respond differently to difficult conversations, and why your partner's defensiveness doesn't automatically mean you communicated poorly. Tony also explores the importance of knowing who you are, learning to tolerate discomfort, recognizing when you're trying to manage someone else's emotions, and speaking from integrity without making your peace dependent on the other person's response. This episode isn't about deciding that everything is someone else's fault. It's about becoming honest enough to recognize what belongs to you, what doesn't, and whether the problem is really who you've believed yourself to be—or the relationship pattern you've been trying desperately to survive. You'll learn how to: - Recognize the catastrophic "simulations" your brain runs — and why it files imagined disasters right next to real memories - Spot the difference between managing your partner's emotions and actually allowing them their own experience - Say the true thing from a grounded place instead of a needy, validation-seeking one - Understand why the leap is the last step, not the first — and why the "okayness" on the other side is something you build before you jump Drawing on more than two decades as a licensed marriage and family therapist, Tony walks through what actually gets you across the chasm — and it's quieter, slower, and stranger than "just be braver." Part two lands soon — send your questions and situations to contact@tonyoverbay.com and Tony will work them into the next episode. 00:00 Crossover Episode Intro 01:02 Bungee Jumping Story 05:36 Differentiation Explained 09:09 Codependency Fried Clams 12:20 Mature vs Immature Dynamics 17:03 Fine Text Example 22:50 Constructing Your Crucible 25:25 Therapy Gridlock Scripts 27:44 Attack Surface Vulnerability 33:27 Cliff Edge Say It 35:27 Leap of Faith Metaphor 38:41 Why Just Jump Fails 40:53 Advice and Validation Trap 44:47 Fear Is a Story 46:52 Emotional Immaturity Dynamics 49:20 Brain Prediction Machine 58:16 Grounding Before the Leap 01:03:29 Growth Edge vs Safety Data 01:08:13 Wrap Up and Next Steps Please follow Tony on Instagram @virtual.couch, on TikTok @virtualcouch, on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/tonyoverbaylmft, and on Substack https://thevirtualcouch.substack.com/ You can reach out to Tony through his website tonyoverbay.com or by emailing contact @ tonyoverbay.com

If you've ever found yourself staring at the ceiling at 3 a.m., wondering why your body suddenly forgot how to sleep, you're not alone. As someone deep in the perimenopausal years, I know firsthand how frustrating middle-of-the-night waking can be. And unfortunately, many of us respond in ways that make the problem worse. In this episode, I break down what's happening biologically, why hormonal shifts often disrupt sleep, and the simple practices that can help you navigate those wakeful hours with a little more ease. Sleep isn't something you force. It's something you create the conditions for. And sometimes the smallest shifts make the biggest difference. Want everything in one place? What does it take for a man once called an enemy of the state to say he felt the Holy Spirit move through him. In this episode I sit down with Tommy Robinson, founder of the English Defence League and one of the most controversial and misunderstood men in Britain, for a conversation that goes far beyond politics. Tommy opens up about growing up in Luton, the moment he first spoke out against grooming gangs as a young man, the prison sentences that followed, and the surprising spiritual awakening that has reshaped how he sees his own life and his country. We talk about the Christ is King moment that swept through a crowd of one hundred thousand people, a prayer from strangers in Israel that left him in tears, and what he believes it will take for Britain to find its identity and its faith again. This is a raw and honest look at redemption, purpose, and the fight for a nation, and I think it will surprise you no matter where you stand. If this conversation moves you, I would love to hear your thoughts in the comments, and if you have not already, subscribe so you never miss an episode. In this episode of The Vibe With Ky Podcast, sleep expert Derek Hales explains why your mattress might be the quiet reason you keep waking up exhausted. If you have been blaming your brain, your schedule, or your stress levels for why you never feel rested, this conversation was made for you.Derek Hales is the founder and editor-in-chief of NapLab.com, where he and his team have tested over 565 mattresses using objective, data-driven methods built entirely in-house. After a frustrating and expensive experience trying to buy his first mattress as a newlywed, Derek built a platform dedicated to cutting through the noise and giving sleepers real, unbiased answers. In this episode, Derek breaks down how the mattress industry is largely designed to confuse shoppers into overspending, what most marketing claims actually mean in practice, and exactly what to buy if you have zero time to research. The conversation also gets into how ADHD brains already run in a low-grade fight-or-flight state, and how a wrong mattress can compound that neurological load in ways that are hard to separate from other causes.Key takeaways from this episode:If your sleep feels noticeably better in a hotel or at someone else's home, your mattress may be a bigger factor in your energy levels than you think. The vast majority of sleepers do best on a hybrid mattress with a medium-firm feel, and spending between 1,500 and 2,000 dollars covers most of what the market has to offer.Cooling features on mattresses are often real but applied at levels too small to make a difference, so take brand claims with a grain of salt.Your pillow, sheets, and mattress protector all affect how your mattress performs, and a cheap protector can undercut even a high-quality bed.Get your free personalized mattress recommendation from Derek and his team at NapLab. Answer a few questions about your sleep needs and budget and they will send you their top pick within 24 hours.https://naplab.comMore from The Vibe With Ky:Website and neurodivergent blog: https://thevibewithky.comSubscribe on Patreon for 5 dollars a month. As she prepares for the premiere of her one-woman show, Cartwheel, at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe this August, Amanda has been thinking about the relationship between tragedy and comedy. This episode from her 20-part Resilience series on the Waking Up app is a look at why finding humor in tragedy is more than a coping mechanism, but a genuine survival skill, and how that idea has shaped her approach to bringing her story to the stage. Last week, we talked with psychologist Lisa Miller about the science of spirituality. Today, we explore what those ideas can look like in everyday life. Miller explains why moments of connection, spiritual practices, and even periods of suffering can sometimes open the door to deeper meaning and growth. Send us Fan MailMost people are stuck in a false belief that they are just their body and mind—Gareth shares how a series of profound awakenings shattered that illusion, opening him to a reality beyond the physical. From near-death experiences to full Kundalini awakenings, he reveals the transformative moments that confirmed we are spiritual beings having a human experience, not the other way around. In this episode, you'll discover how to navigate powerful energy transmissions like Shaktipat safely and why attempting to force Kundalini activation can be risky. Gareth breaks down the mystery of the Mother Force—an energy that can stir the chakras, awaken kundalini, and foster divine union—showing how these energies serve your awakening journey. Plus, he shares stories from retreats filled with spontaneous laughter, tears, and jaw-dropping mystical experiences—and explains why genuine awakening is not about mimicking others but embracing your authentic path.We dive into the subtle distinctions between regular spiritual practices and deep states like Brahman or void consciousness, revealing why these advanced stages transform your perspective on reality. Our last replay for the summer is one of our favorite Sarah and Jane episodes from 2025. The word awakening is everywhere lately. People talk about spiritual awakening, consciousness shifts, dark nights of the soul… but what does any of that actually mean when you're living it in real life? In this episode of Medium Curious, Jane and Sarah talk about what awakening has looked like in their own lives, how mediumship and intuition can open us up in unexpected ways, and why waking up isn't usually one big lightning bolt moment. More often, it happens slowly. Through challenge. Through connection. Through grief. Through healing. Through those moments where life cracks you open just enough that you start seeing things differently. We talk about the strange and beautiful human experience of remembering who we really are, how nature constantly brings us back to ourselves, and why sometimes the hardest seasons of life end up becoming the biggest catalysts for growth. A few things we explore in this episode: ✨ Why awakening is a process, not a destination ✨ How mediumship can deepen intuition and self-awareness ✨ The role connection and community play in spiritual growth ✨ Moving through the dark night of the soul ✨ Why your body is constantly communicating with you ✨ The healing power of being in nature ✨ Learning how to trust yourself more deeply ✨ Finding joy, even while you're growing through hard things A few favorite moments: “We are brave for being human.” “Your body is the tuner.” “It's all just a play.” Resources mentioned: Andy Byng on Medium Curious Gaia: What is Spiritual Awakening and What Are Its 5 Stages Kelly Kolodney: Archangel Raphael Next Level Soul Come hang out with us here too: Medium Curious Substack Medium Curious Website: MediumCurious Jane's Website: Jane Morgan Medium Sarah's Website: Sarah Rathke Podcast Instagram: @MediumCuriousPod YouTube: @mediumcurious And if you enjoy listening, downloading the episode and leaving a review really helps us more than you know
Twenty-five years ago, Tim Timmons was diagnosed with stage 4 incurable liver cancer and told he had five years to live. Today, he is still here. But this episode isn't just about terminal illness. It is about what happens to your faith when life does not make sense. When prayers do not get answered the way you hoped. When fear feels louder than trust. When grief and gratitude have to learn how to sit in the same room. In this deeply honest conversation, Tim shares what it has looked like to walk with God through uncertainty, suffering, humor, disappointment, and hope. His perspective is raw, refreshing, and deeply needed for anyone who has ever wrestled with God, questioned His goodness, or wondered how to keep believing when life feels fragile. This is not polished, religious talk. This is faith lived in the middle of real pain. In this episode, you'll discover: • The one perspective that completely changed Tim's relationship with suffering. • Why one sentence from his doctor didn't become the end of his story. • The unexpected place where faith is often strengthened instead of lost. • A simple shift that may change the way you view your hardest season. • Why some of the questions you've been afraid to ask God might be the very ones He wants you to bring. • The surprising connection between grief, gratitude, and genuine peace. • One daily practice that has transformed how Tim lives, regardless of what tomorrow holds. • A perspective on hardship that may completely reshape the way you see your own story. If your faith feels tired, shaken, distant, or hungry for something real, this conversation is for you. Tim's story is a reminder that God is not asking you to have it all figured out. He is inviting you to come closer. **Don't miss Tim's story portrayed in the film "I Can Only Imagine 2"

Carrie Murphy and I went to the middle of nowhere and received some powerful teachings and meditated together for a thousand years. We came back a little different, and this podcast episode was recorded in the beautiful aftermath. We're out on the edge together, and, as usual, we have some stuff to say. We talk about the experience of coming into the present moment, what it's like being consciousness in form, and I lay out the framework of the Three Teachings and how they relate temporally. Meaning, how the three Body teachings are about the past, how the Honeycomb Matrix is about the present, and how the Golden Frequency teaching is about the future. What happens when we free ourselves from the past, arrive into the spacious present moment, and plant seeds for a new future? We have opinions. We also bring in Evolution Through Joy, describe how to create a garden planet, be nice to our parts, and end with profanity. You know, a normal Carrie and Robin episode. And, good news for you lucky folks, Carrie, who you might recall is a teacher, coach and doctor of Chinese medicine, now offers 1:1 individual and group coaching over zoom. In these sessions, she utilizes the ancient wisdom traditions of Chinese Medicine and Tibetan Buddhism, and helps you solve modern problems at work and at home. Her substack is called Hello You're Not Broken, because you aren't, and she can really help you see that. Her FREE weekly meditation series, ZoomZen, is Fridays at 9am central. Spiritual awakening begins when a person realizes they are the witness of the mind rather than the mind itself. This awakening evolves as one objectively notices the inner voice and realizes how it creates suffering by resisting reality, fearing painful experiences, and clinging to pleasurable ones. Through witnessing, practicing surrender, and learning to relax through emotional disturbances, one gradually becomes centered, loving, and free to align with the natural flow of life. © Sounds True Inc. What if the worldview functioning as an opiate today is not religion, but its absence? In this field notes episode of Inquiry, Kelly Chase examines atheism not as a private belief or philosophical conclusion, but as a very recent mass cultural formation that now functions as the default worldview of educated Western society. Beginning with Marx's famous claim that religion is the opiate of the masses, she asks whether modern secular materialism may now be serving a similar sedating function by making vast areas of human experience feel intellectually off-limits. From there, the episode turns toward elite metaphysics. The public is often told that materialism is the rational, mature, evidence-based position, yet many of the people and institutions shaping the future take seriously spirituality, consciousness, simulation theory, mysticism, ritual, and esoteric frameworks. The question is not whether any single belief system is true, but whether citizens trained to dismiss the symbolic and metaphysical have been given a map that cannot represent the terrain power is actually navigating. Finally, the episode considers the empirical and philosophical pressure points inside strict materialism: the hard problem of consciousness, near-death experience research, the PEAR Lab at Princeton, Dean Radin's work at the Institute of Noetic Sciences, and anomalous findings that are usually met not with rigorous refutation but with studied disregard. These findings are not treated as proof of any particular metaphysics. They are treated as evidence that the question remains open, and that a genuine skeptic should apply suspicion not only to extraordinary claims, but to the dominant worldview that decides in advance which claims are allowed to count. Topics explored: Marx and religion | opiate of the masses | atheism as ideology | secularization | materialism | consciousness | the hard problem | non-material reality | elite belief | WEF and spirituality | Silicon Valley mysticism | simulation theory | René Girard | Peter Thiel | Elon Musk | Bohemian Grove | ritual and power | Skull and Bones | esotericism | operative metaphysics | near-death experiences | PEAR Lab | Dean Radin | anomalous cognition | mind-matter interaction | dogma and skepticism | worldview enforcement | social sanction | epistemic humility | the metaphysics of power Inquiry with Kelly Chase is brought to you by SpectreVision Radio.Produced in partnership with Voltage.fm. Most of us know what it is like to feel emotionally reactive—hurt by others, overwhelmed by circumstances, horrified by what is unfolding in our world, betrayed by our own body, hijacked by our mind. In those moments, we can become identified with a small and vulnerable self—a victim self who feels at the mercy of forces larger than us. In this talk, we will examine how we become trapped in this often unconscious pattern, personally and collectively, and how it leaves us fearful, isolated, and cut off from our natural power. We'll then explore how the wings of mindfulness and compassion can carry us beyond that trance, revealing the freedom, love, and aliveness of our true nature. Our introduction music is from "Opening" by Adrienne Torf, © 2025 ABT Music
