When we learn about the Enneagram, we often apply it first to our relationships. But we often look at it only from a type perspective, without bringing in the Enneagram's centers of intelligence as a framework of analysis. A few weeks ago, we started this discussion with the Enneagram's heart types and what is important to them in relationships. Now let's hear from the head types. In this episode, Uranio, a head type himself, discusses what head types need, what core issues emerge in relationships, and how those around them can help support them. What can those in relationship with a head type do to make it healthier? And what can we all learn through the lens of the head intelligence center? The new book is out! Tony describes in detail how his "4 Pillars of a Connected Conversation" works, including how to apply the 4 Pillars in any conversation where you feel stuck, unheard, unseen, or unloved. The 4 Pillars are: 1) Assuming good intentions, 2) Don't send the message of "you're wrong" or "I don't believe you," EVEN IF you think the other person is wrong, or you don't believe them, 3) Ask questions BEFORE making comments, and 4) Stay present, lean in, do all that you can to stay out of "victim mode." These 4 Pillars, along with the paradigm shift that the goal of a conversation is to be heard, not to resolve, will lead to more connected conversations. - Visit http://tonyoverbay.com/magnetic to learn more about Tony's Magnetic Marriage program, or visit http://tonyoverbay.com to take Tony's free parenting course, or to learn more about his best-selling book; or only recovery program "The Path Back." Although the details from diagnosis to ultimate triumph are vastly different, their stories underscore the universality of the human spirit. This play features Lynnette Freeman and Amy Staats. Conversation between host, Claudia Catania, and playwright, Cori Thomas, follows the play.

Our horror of the Same Old Thing, and demand for ever-increasing novelty, can diminish both perseverance and contentment. Discover God's gift of rhythm in your life and day. In this series, Passage to Wisdom, John reflects on passages from books that have found particular influence in his life. Today we look at 'The Screwtape Letters' by C.S. Lewis. This is a classic masterpiece of religious satire that entertains readers with its sly and ironic portrayal of human life and foibles from the vantage point of Screwtape, a highly placed assistant to "Our Father Below." At once wildly comic, deadly serious, and strikingly original, C.S. Lewis's The Screwtape Letters is the most engaging account of temptation—and triumph over it—ever written. Most of us believe that there is a 'thinker' in our heads, who is thinking all our thoughts. My guest this week Sam Harris - neuroscientist, philosopher, New York Times best-selling author, host of the Making Sense podcast, and creator of the Waking Up app - argues that this is an illusion. Sam says if we can clearly see this, we can largely bring an end to our own suffering. Not pain – which is inevitable – but the psychological suffering that occurs BECAUSE we identify with our thoughts.Thoughts simply arise in consciousness, or in other words awareness, on their own. There is no separate thinker. Before you say this sounds a bit far fetched – Sam does share logical and experiential ways to show that thoughts arise of their own accord.**Follow me:on instagram https://www.instagram.com/simonmundie/on twitter https://twitter.com/simonmundieAnd for the 'Mundie on Monday' newsletter - featuring three of the best Life Lessons from three years and more than 150 of these interviews - head to simonmundie.com See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Yes, this is your permission slip. Look at the word: Permission. It's “per the mission.” Do you know what your mission is? What is the outcome that you'd like to see, or the result you'd like to create? Start with the mission at hand. Take a stand for yourself. In order for you to take a stand for yourself, you have to know what you're standing for. If you don't give yourself permission to stand for yourself, who will? If you don't give yourself a permission SLIP, you'll SLIP and fall on anything. Stand for something that matters to you. Take a stand for YOU, because YOU matter. Taking a stand for yourself looks like this… 1. Being able to interpret your truth more than one way. Remember, if it can't be interpreted at least two ways, it's probably not true. Knowledge of the truth sets us free. 2. Self Care. Self care is the new health care. If you don't take time to care for yourself, then you're life isn't cared for. We will care for that which we value. What would self care look like for you today? Sometimes that means taking a nap. Sometimes it means WAKING UP. Where in your life do you need to wake up right now? Today is your day. This is your permission slip. I stand and sip with you, my dear. So do your SIPPING ON LIFE SISTERS from around the globe. YOU ARE NOT ALONE. Yes, you have to do it for yourself. But you do NOT have to do it all by yourself. Please grab your SACRED S.O.L. D.A.T.E. JOURNAL (Daily Action To Engage yourself.) The San Diego big-wave icon and author articulating the realities of head trauma Welcome to Episode Six of Season Three of Late Drop – The Big Wave podcast. The series was created to showcase conversations with some of the best big-wave surfers in the world — hosted by one of the best big-wave surfers in the world. New episodes will drop on Surfline every other week — Stay tuned here for more Late Drop episodes. In big-wave surfing — much like normal-wave surfing — the audience usually sees two things: the makes and wipeouts. Both, very entertaining; both, which earn guys and girls awards each year. What we don't see, however, is what those wipeouts can do to a person, over and over, over time. What a concussion — let alone, multiple concussions — can do to someone. Perhaps, this is the big-wave world's taboo topic, but San Diego charger and big-wave awards winner, Derek Dunfee, has done a whole lot to articulate (and write a book about) the effects big-wave surfing can have on your brain, specifically, one that is concussed. In this very special episode of The Late Drop, Jamie Mitchell and Derek Dunfee get real about the “network of issues,” one might see from multiple head traumas in the sport they love. 0:00: Growing up in San Diego, Surfing La Jolla, Windansea, Surfing every single day, History of the Windansea surf club and hut, Learning to surf from Dad, Doing NSSA events, Surfing different types of boards/guns/fishes 9:52: Becoming a Tavarua boatman, Getting sponsored by Volcom, Getting into big waves, Being used to respecting the locals and etiquette (from La Jolla), Not getting waves at spots at first 21:12: Derek's path to Maverick's, Friendship with Zach Wormhoudt, Going to Todos Santos, Being selfless and watching people/doing safety from the Ski 33:20: Fostering the new, younger generation, Being patient, Getting his first concussion at Cloudbreak, The Turkey Day swell and his XXL award winning wave 42:45: Derek's beginning of his “end” of surfing big waves, Symptoms Derek would feel from his concussions, The series of hitting his head on reef at spots, Nearly drowning at Cortez Bank, Encountering anxiety with big waves, Not being able to focus his right eye, Network of issues 52:32: The dark period while writing his book, Finding a specialist to work with about concussions, The incredible responses on social media, Getting his lived saved by Shawn Dollar 1:02:43: Being there to listen about concussions, Helmets, Derek's day to day routine, Hyperbaric chamber 1:14:51: How does someone know when they've had a concussion, Researching CTE, Derek's book: “Waking Up in the Sea”
Tony welcomes his daughter McKinley (Mackie) back to The Virtual Couch. Mackie talks about what it took for her to shed the “shoulds” in her life, “you should go to college, you should be a teacher, you should, you should, you should!” and how she ultimately took action on following a path she knew she secretly wanted since middle school. Mackie shares how her depression clouded her dreams even when her parents said that they supported whatever she wanted to do in life and what, if anything, they could have done differently to help her through some of her darkest days. September 14th's California recall election has top Democrats such as Kamala Harris, Elizabeth Warren, and Amy Klobuchar scrambling to campaign for Gavin Newsom as the polls are within the margin of error. Has the emergence of Larry Elder, a black conservative candidate running to replace Newsom, woken California voters up to the idea that freedom and competition are the recipes for opportunity? Newsom's policies have led California to the second-highest unemployment rate in the country, and voters will have the opportunity to reject the status-quo on Tuesday.
In this conversation, Vince Fakhoury Horn is joined by Buddhist meditation teacher Kate Johnson, author of Radical Friendship, a newly released book which found its roots in a talk that Kate gave in 2013 at an in-person Buddhist Geeks Conference, entitled Waking Up to Power & Privilege in Our Communities. Vince & Kate speak about a variety of topics related to practicing dharma and living together in an unjust world.Episode Links:

We kick things off with a "stabby book" update from O'Dell (he is enjoying "Home Before Dark" by Riley Sager). Erin feels we need a stabby book club. Maybe? Our virtual true crime road trip continues, and O'Dell kicks off this episode with the story of the disappearance of Steven Koecher, a devout Mormon man whose abandoned car was found in a retirement community in Henderson, NV in 2009. Eleven years later, Steven is still missing. There are many theories, but very few answers.Erin is in Virginia and tells the story of transgender woman, Sage Smith who went missing after leaving for a date in 2012. She said goodbye to her roommate, and was spotted by her step sister the night of the date, but no one has seen her since. Two of the suspects are also missing. The case was reclassified as a possible homicide in 2020, but there are still no answers as to what actually happened. To close things out, Erin gives an update on 14-year-old Aiden Fucci who has been accused of stabbing 13-year-old Tristyn Bailey 114 times. O'Dell then provides an in memoriam about two 21-year-olds who died after falling from the roof of an office building while having "relations".Chapters:00:00 - Intro00:42 - Stabby books: Home Before Dark04:22 - O'Dell's Story: The Disappearance of Steven Koecher37:46 - Erin's Story: What Happened to Sage Smith?01:04:46 - Update: SPL #5 - The Stabbing of Tristyn Bailey01:06:48 - In Memoriam: I Tumble For YaSend us a tip: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/LEPodcastsSupport us by becoming a member: https://someoneprobablydied.com/index.php/become-a-member/Check out our website at https://sixdegreesofwtf.com for more information on this week's episode, including links to resources and videos mentioned during the show.If you have a creepy story or unsolved mystery that you'd like to share with us, send us a message to firstname.lastname@example.orgCheck out our social media: https://beacons.page/sixdegreesofwtf
