Have you ever had someone say to you, Well, I didn’t know that, as if you were at fault? For example, I am training my kids to bring their laundry upstairs once a week for cleaning. I’ve said it multiple times, announced the night to bring them up and I’ve even done it once. Then, I do the laundry and items they wanted clean were left out. I remind them that I do laundry once a week and items need to be in the laundry room before the day I do them. The answer I will get is..."Well, I didn’t know I had to bring them up?" THE PROBLEM WITH "NO" IN CONVERSATIONS. When I hear someone say "No" as part of our conversation, I shrink a little. "No" can also be communicated without even saying the word. As someone deeply interested in how we best join, bond and develop rapport with others, I’ve been curious about this and have been paying particular attention to this with someone I know who says "No" a lot. What I’ve learned is that, when it happens more than once or twice, I stop reflecting what I’ve heard the person say and/or tend to not ask followup questions. I also shut down a part of me. PART 1: I know. I know. The only person I can change is me. And yet, I catch myself wanting people or situations to be different so I can be happier, which usually means more comfortable. YOU change...so I can be comfortable. I see this so often when I enter my kids’ rooms! #braveleaders
I’m not wearing any makeup during this video. What does that mean??? A new study looked at how cosmetics influence the way we perceive women. They found that both male and female participants rated women wearing a lot of makeup as less human, less warm and less moral. Wearing a "professional" amount at the office, a woman is seen as more competent, capable, reliable and amiable than women without makeup on.
