A fitness podcast about the intersection of coaches, athletes and clients in the fitness industry. We talk training, lifestyle, health, and even a little bit about what gets under our skin.
I interview one of our Ironstone coaches, Cooper, about his experience after contracting and recovering from COVID-19. Cooper was in isolation for 19 days and ran a high fever for 16. He has a few things to say...
Today Patrick hops on the Mic solo to talk about the different Ironstone Programming tracks, what goals they are best suited for, and how to think about each version.
Today I knock off a quick bit of information about daily routines and why they matter. Based on the worldwide response to COVID-19 many people are finding themselves in self-isolation. Lets build some quality routines before we destroy our positive habits and psychological well-being.
In this segment I sat down with two of the Ironstone gym members, Steph & Ollie, to reflect on the 2020 CrossFit Open and talk about what it mght mean for athletes who want to crush the open moving forward. During this conversation we touch on some personal reflections and an assessment of how Ironstone performed as a gym and at the tail end I address what this will mean for the programming moving forward. ****Apologies on the audio quality. I made a huge error in recording this episode by forgetting to switch to the external mic despite having it setup. This whole episode was recorded on the.... laptop mic. Steph & Ollie are at times much lower in volume than I. Not one to let good content go to waste, I've done what I can in editing to try and clean it up. ***
The audio from this episode was captured during a programming town hall we held at Ironstone. During the town hall I presented an overview of how our CrossFit programming works and how it relates to competitive CrossFit. The audio quality in this one isn't great because of the setup but it does the trick.
In this episode I talk with Nikki and Mike about the Ironstone Balance Program and why we created it.
On this episode I head over to Blended Athletics in Dartmouth, NS to chat with Owner Dave Rafuse and his newest hire and head of Marketing Jason Davis about why Nova Scotia has such a shortage of professional fitness coaches. Things that come up include why Coaching isn't perceived as a career, why looking to University graduates might be the wrong approach and whether or not clients care about your credentials. Spoiler: They don't.
Show me a fitness program that is 100% safe and I will show you a fitness program that is 100% ineffective - unknown Although those words are undeniably true risk as it applies to fitness and injury rarely exists as an absolute. In this episode Dafydd and Ollie join me to talk about risk, what it means, and how to understand it in the context of fitness. Knowing how to consider, evaluate, and balance risk with reward will help you maximize your fitness potential or that of the clients your train. You'll also find out why the human experience shapes your understanding of risk and why you shouldn't carry an umbrella . 50 minutes of great dialogue which just barely scratches the surface on how fitness and medicine are intimately linked.
Ollie, Jovana, and Lisa join me for a conversation about self-evaluation and goal setting in the context of CrossFit and the Open.
