Vail Valley native Rachel Nelson joins the show, along with Dr Casey Wolfington, to talk about what it was like growing up in this area, her many years as a professional snowboarder, the tragic loss of her best friend Josh Malay, and how that led her on a spiritual journey of self transformation that would eventually bring her to all her current work as a well known yoga teacher, life coach, and holistic grief counselor. During our conversation Rachel talks about what it was like being one of the only female snowboard competitors in the early years of the sport, how that led to a partying lifestyle that she had to learn to let go of, and the sudden loss of a close friend and how that prepared her for the painful loss of her first son later in life. During our second conversation, Molly English, who is the clinical manager for our in-patient and patient care units at the hospital, as well as the ICU, joins Chris Lindley for a discussion on what they are seeing at the medical level with the current rise in Covid numbers and their preparedness for a possible second wave. Finn Mott joins Gerry Lopez on this episode of the community stream podcast to talk about his struggle with cancer at a very young age and how that affected his life and gave him a glimpse of his own mortality and a true sense of gratitude for everyday existence. He has since gone on to try and give back to other young people who might be struggling in the valley, working with organizations like Mountain Youth. During our conversation Finn talks about the challenges of getting through High School while also undergoing chemotherapy, the amount of depression he went through as a young person dealing with the heavy burden of a cancer diagnosis, how he chose to see the positivity in his struggle, and how he found a new outlet in sports like track and mountain biking and in giving back to the youth.
