Most salespeople think they lost the deal because the prospect didn't have the money, wasn't ready, or found something cheaper. Ray Higdon says that's almost never the real reason. In this solo episode, Ray draws on decades of reviewing thousands of sales conversations to expose the one thing that kills more deals than anything else: failing to expand the prospect's problem. Here's the truth Ray lays out. Most people come to you with a "it'd be nice" problem. It'd be nice to make more money. It'd be nice to quit their job. And people with "it'd be nice" problems don't buy. Your job isn't to pitch harder or follow up more aggressively. Your job is to ask the right questions and help them feel the weight of what staying stuck is actually costing them. Ray shares the story of a client who owed $70,000 to the IRS and refused to invest another dime, right up until Ray helped him see that scraping and saving wasn't going to solve a big problem. That client hired Ray for $30,000, launched a six-figure campaign, paid off the debt, and kept going. That's what expanding the problem looks like in real life. If you want to close more sales without being pushy or salesy, this one is worth your full attention.

Both sides agree she killed her three children. The dispute is whether she knew what she was doing. improve it! Podcast – Professional Development Through Play, Improv & Experiential Learning

In this episode of Workday Playdate, Erin explores why speaking up at work has far less to do with competence and far more to do with confidence. If you've ever left a meeting thinking, "I should have said something," you're not alone—and you're probably more prepared than you think. If you've ever had the perfect idea thirty seconds too late, watched someone else say what you were thinking, or struggled to find your voice in meetings, this conversation is for you. Using improv principles and practical strategies, Erin shares how to stop disappearing on the back line and start contributing with more confidence, more quickly, and more consistently. Inside This Episode: Speaking Up Is Usually a Confidence Issue, Not a Competence Issue: Most people already know what they want to say, they just hesitate when the moment arrives. Erin explores why the gap between thinking and speaking is often driven by fear, not ability. Silence Feels Safe, But It Can Make You Invisible: Staying quiet may protect you from saying the wrong thing, but it can also prevent others from seeing your ideas, expertise, and leadership potential. Early and frequent participation changes how people experience you. Confidence Is Built Through Reps, Not Perfection: The goal isn't to feel ready before you contribute. The goal is to contribute and let confidence catch up. Erin shares why speaking up is a skill built through practice, not personality. The SPEAK Framework Makes Participation Easier: Erin introduces the improv-inspired SPEAK framework to help you contribute more naturally in meetings: Set up the scene, Preload your line, Enter early, Anchor the room, and Keep building. Consistency Changes Your Identity: Speaking up once feels brave. Speaking up repeatedly changes how you see yourself and how others see you. Confidence isn't built in a single moment; it's built in patterns. What to Do Now: Set Up the Scene: Before your next meeting, identify one idea, question, or perspective you want to contribute before the conversation begins. Preload Your Line: Prepare a simple opener such as, "One thing that stands out to me is..." or "I'd like to build on that idea..." so you're not starting from zero when the moment arrives. Enter Early: Challenge yourself to speak within the first ten minutes of your next meeting. Momentum is easier to maintain than it is to create. Anchor the Room: Remember that your contribution doesn't just help you—it creates permission for others to participate, ask questions, and share ideas too. Keep Building: Confidence is earned through repetition. Every time you speak up, you're collecting evidence that your voice belongs in the room. Your Freebie You're calm, capable, and composed… until things take an unexpected turn (as they tend to do)! July 22, Feast of Saint Mary Magdalene - A Model of Holy Love and Desire

Read OnlineA Model of Holy Love and DesireOn the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene came to the tomb early in the morning, while it was still dark, and saw the stone removed from the tomb. So she ran and went to Simon Peter and to the other disciple whom Jesus loved, and told them, “They have taken the Lord from the tomb, and we don't know where they put him.” John 20:1–2When Jesus first encountered Mary Magdalene, she was afflicted by seven demons. Many Church Fathers interpret this number as symbolizing a complete domination by evil spirits. Though later traditions identified Mary Magdalene with the repentant prostitute or the woman caught in adultery, the Gospels themselves do not explicitly make that identification. What is certain is that she had been grievously afflicted by demons (cf. Luke 8:2).To fall into such spiritual bondage suggests a life marked by serious sin. However, diabolical possession is not always the direct result of mortal sin; at times, God may permit such affliction for reasons known only to His providence, allowing a greater good to emerge from it. Whatever the cause of Mary Magdalene's prior affliction, it is clear that God, in His infinite mercy, transformed her into a radiant model of holy love and desire. From her profound healing flowed a singular devotion to Christ.Today's Gospel beautifully portrays the emotion, desire, sorrow, and love flowing from Mary's heart. She was one of the few faithful disciples who remained with Jesus during His Passion and death. She stood by the Cross alongside Jesus' mother, the Apostle John, and a few other holy women. Her strength and devotion likely sprang from her heartfelt gratitude toward Jesus for delivering her from diabolical affliction. The freedom she experienced through Him enkindled in her an unwavering faith, recognizing Him as the Messiah and the Son of God.On Easter Sunday morning, before the sun had even risen, Mary made her way to the tomb to anoint Jesus' body. Since Jesus had died shortly before the Sabbath began—sunset on Friday to sunset on Saturday—Mary and the other women had been unable to properly anoint His sacred Body. We can imagine that from the moment the Sabbath began, her heart was fixed on one desire: to return to the tomb and perform this final act of love. Her devotion could not wait. Love compelled her to act as soon as it was permitted, and in doing so, she became the first to behold the empty tomb—and soon after, the Risen Lord.We see Mary's holy love and desire also in her determination to remain at the empty tomb. After seeing the stone rolled away, she ran to tell the Apostles, and then returned with Peter and John. But after they departed, Mary remained. She stayed, weeping, loving, and longing. She was so consumed with desire for her Lord that, when she saw two angels seated in the tomb, she was neither startled nor impressed—not even when they spoke to her: “Woman, why are you weeping?” Her only thought was for Jesus: “They have taken my Lord, and I don't know where they laid him.”Even when Jesus appeared, His identity veiled from her eyes, she still sought only His body. Yet it was His voice—tender, familiar, unmistakable—that pierced the veil and opened her eyes of faith: “Mary!” She responded with that beautiful, personal cry of recognition, “Rabbouni!”Reflect today on the transformed soul of Saint Mary Magdalene. She went from diabolical affliction to a heart overflowing with holy love and desire for our Lord. She is a model for each of us. We must allow ourselves to be filled with the same gratitude for His grace and reconciliation, cultivate the same unwavering devotion, and burn with the same longing to find Him. When our hearts mirror Mary's, we too will hear the Lord call us by name. Be grateful. Desire Him. Listen for Him. And like Mary, you will find that He is already standing before you.Rabbouni! With Saint Mary Magdalene, I give thanks to You with all my heart for the freedom You have mercifully bestowed upon me. You have forgiven my sins, restored me to grace, and kept me safe from the snares of the enemy. With Mary, I pray that my passions and every movement of my soul may be caught up in love of You, driving me to seek You with all my being. Speak my name, O Lord, call me lovingly, and open my eyes to see You always before me. You can have all the goals in the world. Write them down every morning. Vision board them on your wall. But if you're not becoming the person those goals actually require, nothing is going to change. In this solo episode, Ray Higdon cuts straight to the truth: most people don't fail because they lack goals. They fail because they won't do the personal becoming that the goal demands. And he's not just talking theory here. Ray walks you through a powerful exercise to expose the gap between what you want and who you currently are, then backs it up with real stories. A guy named Eric who skipped his mortgage payment to fly to Malaysia on a hunch and built a team of 20,000 people a month. A plumber named Roger who started filming himself unclog toilets, got laughed at for a year, and ended up with a $2 million sponsorship deal. These weren't lucky breaks. They were leaps of faith made by people who chose to become someone new. Ray ties it all back to scripture too, reminding us that Abraham, Joseph, Peter, and every other person God used greatly had to walk through discomfort to get to the fruit. The question isn't whether you have bold enough goals. The question is whether you're bold enough to become the person capable of reaching them.

What good is reaching the finish line first if you no longer recognize—or respect—the person who crossed it?We live in a world obsessed with winning.Get the promotion. Close the deal. Reach the goal. Beat the competition. Prove that you are the best. But there is a question we do not ask nearly enough:What is your success costing you?If achieving your goal requires you to compromise your integrity, damage your relationships, tear down other people, or lose yourself along the way, did you really win anything? In Week 8 of the Summer Shift series, Kevin Lowe challenges the belief that where you finish matters more than how you ran the race. Through a memorable sandcastle competition at the beach, he reveals why success built through shortcuts, selfishness, or sabotage will always leave you feeling empty—even when everyone else thinks you won.Press play and discover how to pursue your goals with ambition, integrity, and purpose without sacrificing the person you want to become. In This Episode, You'll DiscoverWhy winning can still feel empty when it costs you your characterHow shortcuts and compromised values quietly destroy your self-respectWhy helping other people succeed does not diminish your own successHow to remain competitive without becoming selfish or ruthlessWhy the person you become during the journey matters more than your final positionHow to pursue meaningful success while protecting your relationships and integrityWhat it truly means to win in life—not merely on paperThe Problem With Winning at Any CostThere is nothing wrong with wanting to win. There is nothing wrong with setting ambitious goals, pursuing a promotion, growing a business, becoming the best at your craft, or pushing yourself beyond what you thought was possible. The problem begins when winning becomes the only thing that matters.A victory may look impressive from the outside. The numbers may be great. The bank account may be growing. Everyone may be applauding your accomplishments. But none of that can replace your integrity, your relationships, or the peace of knowing you earned your success honestly.Success that costs you your character is not success worth achieving. How to Win Without Losing Yourself1. Win With IntegrityDo not cheat, manipulate, or cut corners just because doing so could get you to the finish line faster.A shortcut may help you achieve the result, but it can rob you of the pride and self-respect that should come with it.Run your race in a way that allows you to look back and honestly say:I earned this. I remained true to myself. I am proud of how I showed up.2. Win by Lifting Other PeopleCompetition does not require cruelty. You can be driven, ambitious, and fiercely competitive without tripping the person running beside you. Helping another person does not take away from your own opportunity to succeed.A rising tide lifts all boats. The greatest victories are rarely the ones we celebrate alone. They are the ones that allow us to grow while helping the people around us rise, too.3. Win by Becoming Someone BetterThe short-term goal may be reaching the finish line. The greater goal is becoming a stronger, wiser, more grounded person by the time you get there.Ask yourself:Who am I becoming while pursuing this goal?Am I proud of how I am treating people?Am I building character or merely collecting accomplishments? Will this journey leave me fulfilled when the applause ends? When the journey transforms you into someone you respect, your final position no longer determines whether you won.Your Summer Shift ChallengeThink about one goal you are currently pursuing. It could involve your career, finances, health, relationships, business, or personal development. Now ask yourself:Am I pursuing this goal in a way that will make me proud of who I become?Do not focus only on the finish line. Consider how you are running the race, how you are treating the people around you, and whether your daily choices align with the person you want to be.Because eventually, just like a sandcastle washed away by the incoming tide, the trophies, titles, and temporary victories will disappear. What remains is your character, the lives you touched, and the person you became along the way.Listen, Follow, and Keep GrowingFollow Grit, Grace, & Inspiration so you never miss a new episode of encouragement, perspective, and practical personal growth.Listen and follow on Apple PodcastsListen and follow on SpotifyExplore more episodes and inspirationNew episodes are released every Tuesday morning.Connect and Work With Kevin LoweBring Kevin to Your Next EventLooking for an inspirational keynote speaker who can help your audience reimagine limitations, reframe adversity, and move forward with courage and perspective?Learn more about inspirational speaker Kevin LoweTurn Your Story Into a Custom SongK-Lowe Music creates original custom songs around the people, stories, milestones, and messages that matter most.Create your free Custom Song BlueprintRemember ThisIt is not only about where you finish. It is about how you run the race.Run it with integrity. Send us Fan MailIf you've ever felt like you're taking action but nothing is moving, this might be the missing piece: the energy underneath what you're doing. We talk about two “rooms” you can walk into at any moment, get energy and serve energy and why the same words, the same strategy, and the same script can land completely differently depending on which one you're carrying. It's just the human experience, and people can often feel it before you even speak. We unpack what get energy sounds like in real life: trying to get a client, trying to get your spouse to change, trying to get your kids to listen, trying to get your team to buy in. Even when it comes from a good heart, it can create pressure, resistance, and that “something feels off” vibe that's hard to explain. Then we show what serve energy looks like: leading with influence instead of control, helping with no strings attached, and letting outcomes be the other person's choice. Along the way, Marc shares a personal story about years of trying to push Teresa to work out and how one shift in approach changed everything for the long term.We also go deeper on leadership and coaching by separating technical problems from adaptive problems, and why switching tactics can fail or even crush confidence when the real issue is what's happening under the surface. If you sell, lead, coach, or parent, you'll walk away with a simple self-check for spotting your intention in the moment and a clean way to make an offer without getting pushy or hiding. If you found this helpful, subscribe, share it with a friend who feels stuck, and leave a review with your biggest takeaway. If something in this episode resonated, we made a short series just for you. The Food of the Gods “I adjure you, O daughters of Jerusalem, if you find my beloved, as to what you will tell him: for I am lovesick. What kind of beloved is your beloved, O most beautiful among women? What kind of beloved is your beloved, that thus you adjure us?” (So 5:9)   “The nations of the world say to Israel: ‘How is your beloved more than another beloved?” In what way is He God more than other gods, in what way is He a protector more than other protectors?'” (Midrash Rabbah to Shir 5§9)   Once again, the proto-typical event is the exodus from Egypt:   “For I will go through the land of Egypt on that night and will strike down all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgments—I am the LORD.” (Ex 12:12) “And what one nation on the earth is like Your people Israel, whom God went to redeem for Himself as a people and to make a name for Himself, and to do a great thing for You and awesome things for Your land, before Your people whom You have redeemed for Yourself from Egypt, from nations and their gods?” (2 Sa 7:23)   When did the other “gods” of the pantheon assume power over the nations?   And are these entities unruly evil demons or ruly assigned powers over the principalities (2 Pe 2:10; Jde 1:8)?   Too involved to answer, and probably not so fruitful, but when Israel goes into the principality of an assigned power, in a sense, it is the territory of that nation's assigned angelic majesty, elohim, or “judge, authority.” There are indeed, however, unruly demonic entities that operate within those principalities that are worshipped as gods.   Elohim is spirit, yet He “eats” the gifts of our worship, the human desire to be near to Him expressed in gifts and sacrifices:   ”You shall consecrate him, therefore, for he offers the food of your God; he shall be holy to you; for I the LORD, who sanctifies you, am holy.” (Le 21:8) “Speak to Aaron, saying, ‘No man of your offspring throughout their generations who has a defect shall approach to offer the food of his God.'” (Le 21:17) “…nor shall you accept any such [blemished, diseased] from the hand of a foreigner for offering as the food of your God; for their corruption (“decay”) is in them, they have a defect, they shall not be accepted for you.'” (Le 22:25)   Elohim’s food is to receive our heartfelt, lovesick obedience free of the decay of death. Our food is to do the will of the Father who sent Yeshua, the Living Word. (Jn 4:34)   The evil and unclean gods of the pantheon also receive “food” when we idolize them [we actually worship ourselves and they enable it]. As in the Garden, when the serpent offered the humans the opportunity to “be like God,” so evil spirits receive the gifts and sacrifices of human beings as food, fuel for their ability to cross into our realm and proliferate.   It was the serpent who was trying to be like God, and he needed Adam and Eve to feed that desire. He fed them what they desired; they fed him what he desired. The serpent is always eager to feed our wrong appetite, desire, emotion, and intellect. The end result, though, is death, not life.   Obedience to Elohim's voice, however, produces life and the ability to continue abundant life in the Garden, a Land flowing with milk and honey, wine and balsam.   The following recitation for the tithe of the third year contains specific language that reminds us we are not to feed the dead, whether ancestors or gods.   Instead, we feed only our Elohim with our holies of sacred obedience. In return, our Elohim sets us high above all the nations and their gods. This is why our Beloved is high above all others and why we are lovesick, seeking His Voice in the night of exile, which is what Adam and Eve should have done, waited to hear His Voice walking in the cool of the evening.   “When you have finished paying all the tithe of your increase in the third year, the year of tithing, then you shall give it to the Levite, to the stranger, to the orphan and to the widow, that they may eat in your towns and be satisfied. You shall say before the LORD your God, ‘I have removed the sacred portion from my house, and also have given it to the Levite and the alien, the orphan and the widow, according to all Your commandments which You have commanded me; I have not transgressed or forgotten any of Your commandments. I have not eaten of it while mourning, nor have I removed any of it while I was unclean, nor offered any of it to the dead. I have listened to the voice of the LORD my God; I have done according to all that You have commanded me. Look down from Your holy habitation, from heaven, and bless Your people Israel, and the ground which You have given us, a land flowing with milk and honey, as You swore to our fathers.' This day the LORD your God commands you to do these statutes and ordinances. You shall therefore be careful to do them with all your heart and with all your soul. You have today declared the LORD to be your God, and that you would walk in His ways and keep His statutes, His commandments and His ordinances, and listen to His voice. The LORD has today declared you to be His people, a treasured possession, as He promised you, and that you should keep all His commandments; and that He will set you high above all nations which He has made, for praise, fame, and honor; and that you shall be a consecrated people to the LORD your God, as He has spoken.” (Dt 26:12-19)   The unruly rebellious entities derive power when they are worshipped; in a sense, they are “fed” by human beings, which attracts greater numbers of unclean and evil spiritual beings…unclean in that those spirits are NOT assigned to the physical realm, but they hunt for physical hosts to enable them to operate there. It actually speeds the process of death and decay to the host because it is an unclean mixture. Life is only within one's assigned realm:   “Then it goes and takes along with it seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and live there; and the last state of that man becomes worse than the first. That is the way it will also be with this evil generation.” (Mt 12:45)   When we “feed” a spiritual entity our disobedience and rebellion, we transgress, mixing two realms, which invites death, not life. It has no place in the life of a believer in Yeshua, or in a human being at all. This is why disobedience is equated with witchcraft:   For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, And stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the LORD, He also has rejected you from being king.” (1 Sa 15:23)   Because of this rebellion, the kingship and authority was forfeited. Just as in the Garden when the serpent had to entice the human beings into rebelling in order to commandeer their authority to rule, so we still can be deceived into the giving our spiritual authority to the beast by trying to be “like God.” There is only one Elohim, and all other beings are created by Him, even the rebels of the universe. An altar is a “table” connecting the physical realm with the spiritual. Why would we feed rebellious spirits the food of our own disobedience and share their demonic table fare?   “Look at the nation Israel; are not those who eat the sacrifices sharers in the altar? What do I mean then? That a thing sacrificed to idols is anything, or that an idol is anything? No, but I say that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to demons and not to God; and I do not want you to become sharers in demons. You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons; you cannot partake of the table of the Lord and the table of demons.” (1 Co 10:19-21)   Angelic powers over principalities don't need or want human worship to enlarge their influence or authority; they already have authority because it is assigned to them. Perhaps it was pre-assigned when the heavenly hosts were created, but more likely their creation prepared them to be assigned to their supervisory divisions after the Flood:   “Two sons were born to Eber; the name of the one was Peleg, for in his days the earth was divided; and his brother's name was Joktan.” (Ge 10:25; 32; 1 Ch 1:19)   There is also this verse that synchronizes the symbolic 70 nations of the earth and their divisions to the number of Israelites who went down to Egypt:   “Your fathers went down to Egypt seventy persons in all, and now the LORD your God has made you as numerous as the stars of heaven. (Dt 10:22) “When the Most High gave the nations their inheritance, when He separated the sons of man, He set the boundaries of the peoples according to the number of the sons of Israel.” (Dt 32:8)   This may not be a contradiction, but a hint to the restoration work in progress, a plan where the twelve tribes of Israel would become the judges over the nations from the gates of Jerusalem, i.e., the gates to the Garden of Eden, and the assigned princes over the nations would be shaken out of the way, that role concluded.   Whatever the details of the plan, it is evident that these angelic majesties were anticipated and assigned, but the original plan was for the righteous among humankind to judge those angels in administering the Kingdom on earth and possibly in the heavenlies:   “Or do you not know that the saints will judge the world? If the world is judged by you, are you not competent to constitute the smallest law courts? Do you not know that we will judge angels? How much more matters of this life?” (1 Co 6:2-3)   These things are what makes our Beloved greater than the other gods of the nations. In addition, Messiah Yeshua can give his most beautiful Bride authority to rule the nations as at the beginning when Adam and Even ruled.   The gods of the nations, whether unruly demonic or the ruly assigned angelic majesties, cannot and will not give this kind of authority, for their authority is either usurped or only a temporary assignment.   “He who overcomes, and he who keeps My deeds until the end, TO HIM I WILL GIVE AUTHORITY OVER THE NATIONS; AND HE SHALL RULE THEM WITH A ROD OF IRON, AS THE VESSELS OF THE POTTER ARE BROKEN TO PIECES, as I also have received authority from My Father; and I will give him the morning star.” (Re 2:26-28)   The morning star? The first resurrection! We can share Yeshua’s table at the wedding supper of the Lamb. (Re 3:20) Please SUBSCRIBE to our newsletter to get new teachings.

Black women, do you have emotional safe spaces? Secondly, do you use those emotional safe spaces? An emotional safe space is where we can show up as our authentic selves with our vulnerabilities and limitations and receive nurture, care, love, and validation. Such spaces provide healing where we bask in visibility, are encouraged to take off the masks, speak our voice, and reframe from shrinking and code switching. To be honest, such spaces are few and far between for Black women which is why we must cultivate our own spaces where we no longer remain silent about our mental health. Speak up! Let's talk about it. www.talkingwithdrtoy.com

Have you ever felt like something was working against you, keeping you stuck, quiet, and afraid to move forward, no matter how many times you tried? That was me for years. In this episode, I'm opening up about the lies I believed and the enemy's strategy that kept me stopped in my calling for so long. Unanswered prayers. Discouragement after doing everything right. A quiet voice telling me it wasn't worth it, that I was too late, too small, too much, not enough. I used to think that was just life. It wasn't. It was a strategy, and once I saw it clearly, everything changed. I'm sharing exactly what that season looked like for me, what shifted, and how I became unstoppable in stepping into what God called me to do. If you've ever felt frozen in your calling, this episode is for you. Here's what I want you to walk away with today. Unanswered prayer is not unheard prayer. Is there something you've stopped praying about because it felt like God went silent? Pray it again today. The enemy's favorite strategy is silence. What's one lie you've believed about your calling? Speak the opposite truth out loud, right now. Obedience doesn't require an answer first. What's one small step you can take this week toward your message, before you feel ready? You are not stuck. You are not too late. You are unstoppable when you know the truth. Much love, Mia :)

Joining me today are Dave and Ann Wilson who have written a brand new book about what it looks like to speak life into our marriages; not just with the words we say, but also in the thoughts we choose to dwell on. We'll talk about why trying to be your spouse's Holy Spirit never works, why kindness is actually one of the most rebellious things we can do in today's world, and how reframing our inner dialogue can change the way we manage conflict. Whether you've been shouting to be heard, or quietly holding back the pain of unspoken expectations, today's conversation will offer biblical wisdom, practical tools, and fresh hope for building a marriage that reflects Christ's love. We pray this episode encourages you! Episode Highlights: How you approach the conversation matters.  Hope and joy can only be in the Lord. Your words have the power to build up or tear down your spouse. Gratitude for your spouse can change your perspective of your spouse.   Quotes from Today's Episode: "Men go where they're affirmed. They go there." - Dave Wilson "I realize like when I'm in the Word, I look at things different. I look at the world different. I look at Dave different. And it started, God's Word started to change me." - Ann Wilson But there's something that's really holy about seeing greatness in a person and being able to communicate it in some way." - Ann Wilson "I had put all my hopes and dreams in Dave. I'd taken them off of Jesus and I was like, you could make me happy. And it's easy to get into that rut of like, if you would just do X, Y, Z, I could be more content." - Ann Wilson God's given us to each other to sharpen one another- Dave Wilson Speak life to your husband. Bring him back to be the man God created him to be.  We can help shape how our husbands and how our kids feel about themselves, but we have to first connect with Jesus. - Ann Wilson What good does it do to only think of the negative? When I'm in the Word, I see the world different. I see Dave different. You can't say everything you feel! Couples' Conversation Guide: How do we typically approach hard conversations with each other—and what could we do to make those moments feel safer and more affirming? Have we unintentionally placed our hope or happiness in each other instead of in God? What would it look like to shift that back to Jesus as our source of joy? What is one thing I genuinely admire or am grateful for in you that I may not say often enough? How can we be more intentional about calling out the good in each other?   Mentioned in this Episode: Find Dave and Ann Wilson on IG. https://teachhoops.com/ Every single coach in the country is sitting on one. One conversion they know they absolutely need to have, but continue to push off. A player who needs a heavy dose of the truth regarding their body language. An assistant coach who is quietly slipping below the program's operational standard. A parent whose unrealistic expectations need an immediate, firm boundary reset. A team leader who has quietly drifted away from the collective vision. And yet, the conversation waits. Tomorrow becomes next week, next week becomes next month, and a minor operational leak slowly turns into an unmanageable crisis. In this episode, we step directly into the "Truth Room" to confront the psychology of delayed candor. We pull back the curtain on why coaches avoid these high-friction moments. It isn't a communication problem; it is a fear problem. We unpack how hiding from discomfort under the guise of "protecting the relationship" is actually an act of self-preservation that destroys your culture. Discover how to balance personal care with direct challenge, and learn why unspoken truth quietly becomes accepted behavior inside a level 4 championship program. True, transformational program building requires a leader to navigate the tight space between supporting an individual and demanding adherence to the program's unyielding Standard of Tolerance. The Fallout: When you prioritize an athlete's short-term comfort or fear their defensive reaction, you choose silence. This passive avoidance creates a massive cultural drift. Your silence actively teaches the rest of the roster that your stated standard is flexible when the confrontation becomes uncomfortable. The Execution: The absolute best coaches do not look at a difficult conversation as an act of criticism; they view it as an investment of Trust Capital and an act of absolute belief. If you challenge an assistant or a player through the exhaust, it is because you care too much about their long-term growth to let them settle for mediocrity. When you step into the room to address a boundary line that has been crossed, bypass emotional lectures and utilize this high-signal, socratic framework to maintain absolute control of the environment: Step 1: State the Objective Observation ───► "I see this specific behavior occurring on the floor..." Step 2: Define the Functional Impact ───► "It is actively hurting your development and stalling our team's Next Play Speed..." Step 3: Mandate the Explicit Correction ───► "This is the exact structural adjustment that needs to change immediately..." Step 4: Reaffirm Unshakable Belief ───► "I am holding you to this line because I know you are capable of leading this program." Coach's Note: "Delayed candor always increases the cost. Every single day you choose to look the other way because a conversation feels too heavy or uncomfortable, you are actively training your gym to accept a lower standard. Stop letting fear manage your program's ceiling. Step up, look them in the eye, care personally, but challenge directly. Speak the truth through the exhaust, and let your culture carry the weight." If you've ever told yourself you just need to be more consistent, Ray Higdon has something to say about that — and it might shift everything. In this solo episode, Ray breaks down why consistency isn't actually your problem. After two decades of coaching thousands of people, he keeps seeing the same root cause underneath the struggle, and it has nothing to do with habits, routines, or discipline. It's a belief problem. Ray gets personal here. He shares a powerful story about a panic attack backstage at Funnel Hacking Live in Nashville, in front of 5,000 people, and how that moment cracked open a deep belief he had carried since third grade — that trusting people leads to betrayal. That one belief quietly shaped how he showed up in relationships for years without him even knowing it. The same thing is happening with consistency. If part of you believes success means losing money, becoming someone you despise, getting cut off from family, or being hit up for cash, your subconscious will do the most efficient thing possible: keep you from being consistent. You can read every habits book ever written and nothing will stick until you ask yourself what you actually believe success will do to your life. That's where the real work begins.
