And then we had what has to be the greatest year in politics in my lifetime.Never, repeat NEVER have we had so much leverage over Democrats. Because we reflected on what happened last year, and I'm sure we will continue to flashback, so as not to forget history. Be A Warrior: Closing Season Five, Trusting What Comes Next As I sit down to record this episode, it honestly feels surreal. This is the final episode of 2025 and the close of Season Five of Be-YOU-tiful Adaptive Warrior. Five years. 210 episodes in all! When I say that out loud, it stops me in my tracks a little. What started as a quiet nudge on my heart has grown into something that now feels woven into my life, my healing, and my purpose. My 2025 year in review If you've been with me on this journey for a while, thank you. Truly. You are part of this family. And if you're new here, welcome. I hope you'll stick around—because Season Six starts next week, and I can hardly believe I get to say that. When I launched this podcast, I didn't have a master plan. I wasn't chasing perfection, production polish, or algorithms. I was chasing meaning. My prayer from the very beginning was simple: If this reaches one person—if it brings hope, peace, or strength to someone in the middle of chaos—then it's worth it. This podcast exists because of my faith, my lived experience, and the road that brought me here—one that forever changed on December 19th, 2018. That was the day I chose an elective above-knee amputation after five years of failed surgeries following a taekwondo accident. Five years of fighting my own body. Five years of pain, loss, and unanswered questions. My TaeKwonDo time, pre-amputation If you've never heard my full amputation story, I shared it back in Season One. And honestly, as I step into Season Six, I may revisit it again—because time gives perspective, and perspective gives depth. My first full year as an amputee was 2019, and I set goals like my life depended on it. And in many ways, it did. I hit every single one. I skied again. I surfed. I water skied. I hiked. I rode horses. I proved to myself, my doctors, my family—and maybe the world—that I wasn't disabled. I was differently abled. But once I checked every box, something unexpected happened. I felt empty. That emptiness wasn't failure—it was calling. I realized I wasn't meant to keep all of that hard-earned wisdom to myself. I wasn't meant to just do life again. I was meant to share it. That's where this podcast was born. I'll be honest—I don't love listening to myself talk. I don't script these episodes. I don't cut out the pauses or clean up the edges. There's an intro, there's an outro, and everything in between is real. I show up as a mom, a wife, an amputee, a human still figuring it out. This podcast is raw on purpose—because life is raw. As this year closes, we're also shifting seasons symbolically. If you follow the Chinese calendar, we're leaving the Year of the Snake and entering the Year of the Horse. And if you know me at all, you know how much that resonates. Horses have become central to my healing and my heart. As a little girl growing up in the suburbs of Chicago, I dreamed of horses, but access and finances made it unrealistic. Life had other plans. It wasn't until after I lost my leg that horses came back into my life in a powerful way. I reached out to a friend who worked with rescue horses, and something clicked—deeply and instantly. That connection led me to become certified in horse training, advanced training, and most recently equine therapy. Horses taught me regulation, presence, trust, and stillness in ways nothing else ever had—especially after trauma. Now, I work with people who are searching for grounding, healing, and reconnection to their bodies, especially after limb loss. The Year of the Horse represents freedom, movement, soul searching, and wellness. And honestly, I can't think of a better theme for what's ahead. I don't know exactly what this year will bring—but I know I'm ready to meet it. If you've followed me for any length of time, you know I don't believe in New Year's resolutions. I think the phrase itself sets us up to fail. Words carry power. When we label something as temporary or flimsy, our minds treat it that way. By February, resolutions fade, gyms empty out, and people convince themselves they'll “start again later.” So instead, I believe in fresh starts. Turning a page. New perspective. And one of my favorite end-of-year rituals is choosing a word—or a short phrase—to guide the year ahead. Not a checklist. A compass. Last year, my words were ‘Be Present’. And those words carried me through one of the most challenging years of my life. In May, I traveled to Boston to see if I qualified for an experimental procedure and revision surgery. In June, I had surgery. July through September were filled with healing, setbacks, crutches, fittings, and learning my body all over again. Through it all, I stayed present. I documented the journey. I let myself feel it. And when the holidays arrived—busy, beautiful, chaotic—I stayed present there too. I soaked up baking, gift-making, family moments, and even the exhaustion. I welcomed January's slower rhythm with gratitude instead of guilt. This year, my word found me quietly—in church, listening to our pastor speak. My word for the coming year is ‘Trust”. That word is heavy in the best way. Trusting the process. Trusting the people around me. Trusting my body as it continues to change. Trusting God's timing—even when it doesn't match my own. I like control. I like schedules. I like certainty. And trust requires letting go. It's a trust fall—stepping back and believing you'll be caught. My prosthetic journey is still unfolding. My leg continues to change. A new socket is likely coming soon. Nothing feels finished or neat right now—and that's okay. This year, I'm choosing to stop forcing outcomes and start allowing space. If something is meant to be, it will unfold. And if it isn't, that doesn't mean it was a failure. Sometimes closed doors are protection. Sometimes the blessing only makes sense in hindsight. So here's my invitation to you. As we sit in this quiet space between years, I want you to choose a word or phrase of your own. Something that speaks to where you are—not where you think you should be. Be honest. Reflect. Meditate on it. Ask yourself where you struggled this year and where you want to grow—not from shame, but from curiosity. Write your word down. Put it somewhere visible. Make it your screensaver. Stick it on your mirror. Tell someone you trust. Accountability matters. Growth requires reflection—and sometimes reminders. And remember this: you are not meant to be at the same place as everyone else. We rise and fall at different times so we can lift each other when it's needed. Start with yourself. Speak kindly to yourself. Life is too short for your own inner voice to be your harshest critic. You are already enough. Growth is not about fixing yourself—it's about expanding into who you already are. As I close this chapter, I want to thank you for being here. For listening. Here's a question that keeps salespeople up at night: How do you ask for more compensation when you're getting competitive external job offers without sounding like you're issuing an ultimatum? That's the question posed by Brady from Arkansas. Brady's been getting legitimate job offers from recruiters, and he's wondering how to leverage these opportunities into better compensation at his current company without burning bridges or coming across as disloyal. If you've ever found yourself in this position, you know it's a delicate dance. You want to be paid what you're worth, but you also don't want to destroy the relationships and goodwill you've built. So how do you navigate this conversation? The Right Way to Have the Conversation If you're getting external job offers from legitimate companies with strong brands, the key is in how you frame the conversation with your boss. Here's the approach: "I really like working here, and I want to stay at this company. I love it. But I've got another company out there that's a good company. They're a great brand, they're well known, and they're making this job offer to me at a significantly higher level of compensation. It's hard for me to say no to that. I feel like I need to bring this to you before I make a decision because I like working here." Notice what you're NOT saying. You're not walking in with an ultimatum saying, "If you don't give me this, I'm leaving." Instead, you're saying, "I want to stay here. I like it here. I'm just in a situation where they're offering me enough that it's turning my head and I'm looking their way." This approach keeps the door open for a productive conversation about what might be possible without threatening your current employer or damaging your relationship. When Loyalty Actually Matters Now, before you go schedule that meeting with your boss, you need to ask yourself a hard question: Do you owe this company some loyalty? If you were down on your luck, lost a job, and they came along and gave you something that saved you, you probably owe them some loyalty for that. Not forever, but there's a little bit of honor in not just jumping to the next place immediately. You also need to think about your resume. If you've just got there and a year later you're jumping to another place, that's on your resume. And believe it or not, even in today's world, that still means something. I won't hire people who jump from job to job every year. I don't care how good they are because they're probably going to jump again. So think long term: Am I demonstrating to a future employer that I'm worth investing more money in? The answer is yes when you gave them three years of your life, performed at a really high level, and now you're going to leverage that to go level up elsewhere. Speaking Your Boss's Language Here's what most salespeople get wrong when asking for more money: They forget to speak the language their boss understands. If you walk into your sales leader's office and say, "I want to make more money," you know what they're going to tell you? "Go sell more." And they're right. If you've got a great compensation plan with no limit on how much commission you can make, the answer is simple: crank out more sales. So before you ask for more base salary, ask yourself: Do I have a limit on how much commission I can make? If the answer is no, then your first conversation should be about getting bigger opportunities. Try this approach: "I can sell. I'm hitting numbers, but I'm not making the money I want. What can you do to give me bigger accounts, bigger opportunities, bigger customers? Give me better leads. What can you do to get me in a situation where I can earn more?" This is speaking the boss's language. You're showing that you want to produce more, not just get paid more for the same work. If you get shut down in that situation, then you have another conversation. The Commission vs. Base Salary Play If you're a baller and you've proven you can sell, here's a move most salespeople never consider when negotiating compensation: Ask for a higher commission percentage instead of a higher base salary. I honestly don't care about base. I think a base matters when you're getting started, and it's nice to have, but I would much rather have a higher commission percentage than a higher base. Here's how you position it: "In the open market, I can take a similar job and make $400,000. I want to make the same thing here. Now there's two ways we could do this. One is that you can increase my base salary. Two is you give me a higher commission rate, and I think the commission rate should be this. I think I'm worth that." What you're basically saying is that your cost of sales is going to be variable. They only pay you if you sell it, so their carrying costs stay the same. In my company, the people who don't take a base salary make more than double in commission what people who do take a base salary bring home. There's a massive difference because the people saying "pay me more commission" are saying "I'm willing to put skin in the game in order to make more." Now, this doesn't work if you're at a massive company with a thousand salespeople and rigid HR policies. But if you work for a smaller organization where people can make decisions, have an honest conversation around this approach. You might even propose a tiered structure: "You can pay me your base commission on everything up to the quota you gave me. But once I cross that quota, I want my commission to roll up so that if I get over this number, the rate scales." That's a conversation most entrepreneurial leaders will entertain because it's putting your money where your mouth is. What Money Can't Buy Here's the thing most people miss when they're chasing the next big paycheck: There's always money out there you can chase. You have an obligation to yourself and your family to make as much as you possibly can in sales. But there's also the value of working in a place that values you. There's more than just the money. There's the freedom, the flexibility, and the opportunity to be part of something that gives you purpose. I had somebody come to me recently and ask this question, and I said, "This job that you're moving to that's going to pay you all this money, suddenly you're going to have someone who's micromanaging and telling you what to do every single day. In your current role, you're not making as much money, but you call the shots on your day every single day. Nobody even messes with you. Are you willing to sign up for that?" They said their wife told them the exact same thing. Maybe that's a sign that having the freedom and flexibility is more valuable than making a lot of money but being miserable because everything you do is being micromanaged. The Bottom Line When it's time to ask for more money, remember these principles: Bring the conversation to your boss before making a decision. Frame it as wanting to stay, not threatening to leave. Consider what you owe in loyalty. If they gave you a chance when you needed one, factor that into your decision. Speak your boss's language. Ask for bigger opportunities before asking for more base pay. Consider the commission play. If you're confident in your abilities, asking for higher commission rates can be more lucrative than base salary increases when looking at total compensation. Weigh the intangibles. Money isn't everything if you're trading freedom and fulfillment for a micromanaged existence. The best compensation conversations happen when you approach them with confidence, gratitude, and a clear understanding of your value. This message invites us to pause at the end of the year and honestly reflect on what we are living for. In a culture obsessed with what's next, we often forget that the journey matters just as much as the destination. Why? because what we remember shapes what we repeat. Drawing from Joshua 4, we see that God called His people to stack stones as a memorial of His faithfulness, not just to mark a miracle, but to pass it on to the next generation. In the end, the question isn't if something will remain, but what. As the year closes, we're challenged to live with the end in mind, to remember where God has brought us from, and to build a life that leaves behind a story that continues to impact long after we're gone.

Rules are made and policies are established. But the “how” of implementing and meeting those regulations or policies will be very context specific. We don't stop the sound, and in one breath we say, see-yit. It's not see. it. It's see-yit. Like, That movie? I'm gonna see-yit tomorrow. Did you hear the tiny y? I'm gonna see-yit tomorrow. Here are some other examples:  She is sounds like she-yiz. She-yiz the boss.We are sounds like we-yar. We-yar happy to see you!Many apples  sounds like meni-yapples. There are meni-yapples on the table.This tiny Y keeps the flow smooth and natural. Join us as we reflect on the brief appearance of Simeon in the Christmas story as we reflect on the awe of wonder of the Christmas season.Leviticus 12: 1-8 The Lord spoke to Moses, saying, “Speak to the people of Israel, saying, If a woman conceives and bears a male child, then she shall be unclean seven days. As at the time of her menstruation, she shall be unclean. And on the eighth day the flesh of his foreskin shall be circumcised. Then she shall continue for thirty-three days in the blood of her purifying. She shall not touch anything holy, nor come into the sanctuary, until the days of her purifying are completed. But if she bears a female child, then she shall be unclean two weeks, as in her menstruation. And she shall continue in the blood of her purifying for sixty-six days.“And when the days of her purifying are completed, whether for a son or for a daughter, she shall bring to the priest at the entrance of the tent of meeting a lamb a year old for a burnt offering, and a pigeon or a turtledove for a sin offering, and he shall offer it before the Lord and make atonement for her. Then she shall be clean from the flow of her blood. This is the law for her who bears a child, either male or female. And if she cannot afford a lamb, then she shall take two turtledoves or two pigeons, one for a burnt offering and the other for a sin offering. And the priest shall make atonement for her, and she shall be clean.”Luke 2:22-35 And when the time came for their purification according to the Law of Moses, they brought him up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord (as it is written in the Law of the Lord, “Every male who first opens the womb shall be called holy to the Lord”) and to offer a sacrifice according to what is said in the Law of the Lord, “a pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons.” Now there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon, and this man was righteous and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him. And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord's Christ. And he came in the Spirit into the temple, and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him according to the custom of the Law, he took him up in his arms and blessed God and said,“Lord, now you are letting your servant depart in peace,    according to your word;for my eyes have seen your salvation    that you have prepared in the presence of all peoples,a light for revelation to the Gentiles,    and for glory to your people Israel.”And his father and his mother marveled at what was said about him. And Simeon blessed them and said to Mary his mother, “Behold, this child is appointed for the fall and rising of many in Israel, and for a sign that is opposed (and a sword will pierce through your own soul also), so that thoughts from many hearts may be revealed.”
