Motherhood is a journey of love, challenge, growth, hard moments, beautiful moments, joy, frustration, connection , loneliness and everything in between and so much more. Becoming a mother brings with it so many changes to us and our lives in so many areas and there is a name for this - matrescence. The Finding Me In Motherhood Podcast will be here to support you through this journey - not just in the newborn days but in you whole journey as a mother and woman. I hope that these fortnightly short episodes are like gentle whispers of wisdom and inspiration for self reflection and growth.
WARNING before you listen: this episode I talk about my miscarriages, and it also contains mention of termination. If you feel like this would be distressing or upsetting for you, please use your discretion as to whether to listen to it or skip this one. In this episode I talk about my experiences of miscarriage, both around 14 years ago, but never gone from my mind. My second miscarriage was a prolonged experience of grieving before the actual loss of the pregnancy and was a life altering experience for me. I wanted to share as I didn't read or hear many stories like mine when I was going through it, as so I hope by sharing that it finds those who need to hear it and helps in them feeling less alone. For resources to support you through pregnancy loss in Australia you can contact Pink Elephants, Red Nose Grief and Loss, Miscarriage Australia have some resources, or reach out to a perinatal social worker, psychologist, or counsellor. So many of the mums that I work with don't meet their basic needs daily. In this podcast I talk about some of the basic needs that I believe are important for us to be meeting and how not meeting these needs might be impacting on your day and the way you are feeling. If you would like some support with exploring this topic and ways that you can prioritise your needs being met in your day you can find out more about working with me on my website www.briellethomson.com or find me on Insta instagram.com/embodiedmotherhood or facebook.com/embodiedmotherhood
After an unintended break from the podcast, we are back. In this episode I explore the masks women wear in motherhood- what that means, how it might look for you, why, and give you some prompts to explore this on your own experience. If you would like to explore working with me 1:1, or joining me in circle you can find out more on my website www.briellethomson.com or follow along on instagram at www.instagram.com/embodiedmotherhood Facebook- www.facebook.com/embodiedmotherhood If you enjoyed this episode I would so appreciate you leaving a review so that other women who need these words have more chance to find them. A couple of years ago, I wrote a post that said - Losing yourself in motherhood is purposeful - it provides an opportunity to shed parts of your identity that no longer feel aligned and to redefine who you choose to be now, and it had quite a big response. So this is what I am going to chat a little about in this episode, and guide you through some prompts to start rediscovering YOU. Thank you for listening and if you have a spare moment I would love you to leave a review on your favourite podcast app. If you would like to dive deeper into this sense of loss of identity and redefining how you want to live and mother, or if you would like some emotional or mental health support or birth debriefing please reach out to me. You can find me at www.briellethomson.com and on social media www.instagram.com/embodiedmotherhood and www.facebook.com/embodiedmotherhood

When you understand the transition to motherhood as a rite of passage, and that the challenges that come with that are normal but also exacerbated by the lack of support and holding by our society, I hope you can begin to see that these changes and challenges are not because you are doing motherhood 'wrong'. You are not alone in this mama.
