What if the version of strength most men were handed is quietly breaking them?In this deep and honest conversation, Brandon Clift interviews Trey Tucker, founder of Rugged Counseling and author of Tough Enough, a book written specifically for men in their twenties who feel stuck, drifting, or disconnected.Trey opens up about the sudden death of his father and how he navigated grief without shutting down emotionally. He shares the unconventional approach he used to process loss and how it shaped his model of therapy today.Together, they explore:• Why many men struggle with grief • The biological differences in how men and women process stress • Why traditional therapy can leave men stuck in awareness without action • The rise of red pill culture and why it initially feels empowering • Why Gen Z men are increasingly unmotivated at work • The dangerous trend of “playing it safe” • The need for mentorship and modern rites of passage • Why men need vision, accountability, and action • The difference between repression and strengthTrey argues that masculinity itself is not the problem. Misguided expression is.Instead of eliminating grit, dominance, or ambition, he calls men to integrate emotional awareness with decisive action. This episode is for:Men in their twenties who feel directionlessFathers raising sons in a confusing cultural momentLeaders managing disengaged young menAnyone wondering if therapy could be more effective for menStrength is not the absence of emotion. It's the ability to face it without flinching.Rugged Counseling (Trey Tucker's practice) https://www.ruggedcounseling.com/InstagramThe main Instagram account associated with him and his work is: https://www.instagram.com/ruggedcounseling/Tough Enough Book: https://a.co/d/0erVME7U BetterHelp: Get 10% Off Your First Month Of Therapy The ManKind Podcast has partnered with Betterhelp to make it easier for listeners to access licensed mental health therapists who can aid them in their mental health journey. Somewhere along the way, we stopped seeing birth as a rite of passage and started treating it like a medical procedure. It's time to change that.In this episode, I'm chatting with Elaine Welteroth about her incredible journey from journalism to founding the Birth Fund, an organisation working to get midwifery care to families who need it most. We're diving into why midwifery care is so important, how the medical model of birth has let women down, and what it means to reclaim birth as a rite of passage rather than just another medical event.Elaine gets real about trusting your intuition during childbirth, choosing a birth team that truly supports you, and why surrendering to the process (not fighting it) can be one of the most empowering things you'll ever do. The ego structure today is in what Carl Jung called the puer aeternus complex—an unwillingness to grow up and a rejection of the ongoing rites of passage that God offers the soul to complete the coup de grâce needed to let go of its immature relation to reality and obsolete identity. Shunyamurti reads from Chapter 13 of the Ashtavakra Samhita, which comes as close to the ultimate teaching as is possible in written form. The coup de grâce is to give up acceptance, rejection, and the belief that there is a someone to give those up. The only way out is to get to the central nerve of life energy and raise it to receive the full power of presence.

WelcomeIn this episode I continue the tender conversation that began in the last transmission about my mother's death. This time I am sharing about grief itself, strong emotions and the hidden gift in death. I speak very honestly about how grief is moving through my body thirty days after my mother passed, how it arrives like a powerful wave with no story attached, and how choosing to truly feel is giving me more life, more power and more wisdom.Episode SummaryI explore how birth and death are not single moments but long processes that reflect the way we live. The way you die, and the way you give birth, is an extension of your lifelong patterns. You do not suddenly become someone else at the moment of death or at the moment of birth.I describe how grief arrives in my body like a powerful wave, with no story attached. Tears, sound and movement come, whether I am alone or with others, and I feel deep peace about my relationship with my mother. I share how most of us try to rationalise emotions, attach stories and blame others, instead of letting the pure energy move through us to clean, liberate and transform us.I speak about grief as an initiation and a rite of passage that supports my mother's ascension and my own evolution. I reflect on how our mothers live inside us, how this era is asking us to reclaim our individual power and life force, and how allowing ourselves to feel fully is how we make art out of our lives.Key TakeawaysThe way you die and the way you give birth reflects the way you have lived.Birth and death are gradual processes, not single moments.Grief is pure energy that can move through you without a story and serve everyone involved.Rationalising and attaching stories to emotions creates suffering and disconnection.Allowing yourself to feel fully gives you more life, vitality and connection to the Divine. If you are in your own season of grief, or you are feeling emotions that seem too big, too wild or too much, I am holding you gently in my heart. You do not need to make sense of it. You do not need to have a beautiful story for it. You are allowed to feel.Let this episode be a permission slip for you to let the waves move through your body and to trust that something sacred is happening in you and through you, even if your mind does not understand.Thank you for being here with me, for your courage to listen, to feel and to stay present with life and with death.I'd love to hear your thoughts, text the show. Rite of Passage: The Archetype Shift That Changes Everything

PEAK MIND

In a world filled with distractions and societal pressures, finding and stepping into your true identity can feel like a monumental task. In this enlightening podcast episode, Michael Trainer shares profound insights on the importance of individuation, using personal anecdotes and timeless wisdom to guide listeners on their journey to self-discovery. **Understanding Individuation**  Michael Trainer opens the discussion by emphasizing the significance of drawing a line in the sand and embracing the identity that resonates with us. He recalls advice from his leadership coach, Peter Roche, who reminded him that we are the lead actors in our own movies. This metaphor encourages listeners to take control of their narratives, embodying the characters they aspire to be, such as the king, the warrior, or the lover. These archetypes have been part of human storytelling for centuries, and recognizing them can help us align with our deepest desires. **The Traditional Rite of Passage**  Trainer reflects on the historical processes of individuation, where young men and women were guided through challenging rites of passage by elders. These experiences often required courage and a confrontation with fears, leading to a new identity and a profound sense of belonging. Unfortunately, in today's convenience-oriented culture, these traditional connections and rites of passage are often missing, leaving many feeling stuck in their childhood narratives and unprepared for adulthood. **The Importance of Letting Go**  To fully embrace our potential, Trainer stresses the need to let go of old stories that no longer serve us. He shares a personal experience of slipping and injuring his wrist, using this incident as a metaphor for the importance of paying attention to life's signals. He highlights how injuries can teach us valuable lessons about health, patience, and resilience. In moments of struggle, we are reminded to reflect on our paths and take responsibility for our choices. **Finding Your Purpose**  The conversation then shifts to the significance of stepping into our purpose, or Dharma. Trainer explains that when we neglect our true calling, life can feel chaotic and unsteady. However, when we stand firm in our convictions and embrace our roles within our communities, we can navigate challenges with greater ease. This self-awareness leads to empowerment, allowing us to transition from one life stage to another, whether it's from maiden to mother or prince to king. **Community and Support**  Michael shares his own journey of individuation, which included participating in men's work with his father and engaging in transformative programs like the Mankind Project. He emphasizes the importance of community in this process, as being witnessed by others can facilitate growth and healing. However, he also acknowledges that not everyone has access to such experiences. Therefore, he encourages listeners to seek out mentors and peers who can inspire and challenge them to rise to their full potential. **Commitment to Growth**  As Trainer reflects on his own life, he recognizes the need to surround himself with individuals who push him forward, not just those who provide comfort. He shares his commitment to returning to a supportive community in Austin, Texas, where he plans to embark on a new chapter in 2026, focusing on personal growth and the birthing of a new book. This commitment, while daunting, represents a significant step in his journey toward individuation. What happens when you finally decide to stop playing small? In this intimate solo episode, Michael dives into the ancient and deeply human process of individuation—the moment you step out of the outdated version of yourself and into the role you were always meant to inhabit.Drawing on wisdom from his leadership mentor, Peter Roche, and archetypes from myth and psychology, Michael explores why so many of us are living out childhood stories long after they've expired… and what it takes to cross the threshold into your next chapter. He shares a recent personal moment—a literal fall—that became a metaphor for the ways life tries to get our attention when we're not stepping fully into our gifts, purpose, and power. You'll hear:Why you're the lead actor in your own storyThe archetypes (King, Warrior, Magician, Lover) that shape your identityHow ancient rites of passage forged adults who could protect communityWhat happens when we avoid the identity we're called to liveHow injury, setback, or friction can be a spiritual signalWhy strong peers and “iron sharpens iron” relationships matterThe difference between karma and dharmaWhy stepping into your bigness is not arrogance but responsibilityMichael's commitment to a new chapter—and an invitation to begin your ownIf you've been feeling the pull toward a bigger life, deeper purpose, truer relationships, or a more courageous version of yourself… this episode is your line in the sand.**Conclusion: Key Takeaways**  Michael Trainer's podcast serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of stepping into our true identities and the role of community in our journeys. Key takeaways include:- Embrace the idea that you are the lead actor in your life and have the power to shape your narrative.- Recognize the value of traditional rites of passage and seek out ways to create your own.- Let go of stories that no longer serve you and focus on your true purpose.- Surround yourself with a community that inspires growth and pushes you to reach your potential.- Commit to continuous personal development and be willing to embrace new chapters in your life. Michael Trainer has spent 30 years learning from Nobel laureates, neuroscientists, and wisdom keepers worldwide. He's the author of RESONANCE: The Art and Science of Human Connection (March 31, 2026), co-creator of Global Citizen and the Global Citizen Festival, and host of the RESONANCE podcast.Featured in Forbes, Inc, Good Morning America. In a recent edition of the Kids Today online newsletter, correspondent Anna North asked, “What do we lose when teens don't babysit?” In her article, North tells us how the teenage baby-sitting culture has changed over the years, with fewer and fewer teens actually baby-sitting, and fewer and fewer parents hiring teen baby-sitters. With a smaller amount of teens engaging in this once widespread rite of passage, North argues that kids are missing out on a formative experience that can build a teenager's confidence level as they learn to exercise responsibility. Kids who babysit others are given the opportunity to learn social skills, they learn to deal with problems, and they develop in their critical-thinking abilities. In a day-and-age when kids are tethered to their phones, and phones are even used as baby-sitters, why not encourage your kids to take a baby-sitting course and take on the baby-sitting responsibility. This is one more way to nurture our kids into a healthy adulthood.

Trump revives the Presidential Fitness Test, a rite of passage for schoolchildren for decades

President Donald Trump reestablished the Presidential Fitness Test for American children, a fixture of public schools for decades that gauged young people's health and athleticism with 1-mile runs, sit-ups and stretching exercises. “This is a wonderful tradition, and we're bringing it back,” Trump said of the fitness test that began in 1966 but was phased out during the Obama administration. An executive order he signed in August also reinvigorates a national sports council that the president stocked with former and current athletes and other figures from the sports world. Several prominent athletes joined Trump and top administration officials. In the test, children had to run and perform sit-ups, pull-ups or push-ups, and a sit-and-reach test, but the program changed in 2012. It evolved into the Youth Fitness Program, which the government said “moved away from recognizing athletic performance to providing a barometer on students' health.” The then-first lady Michelle Obama also promoted her “Let's Move” initiative, focused on reducing childhood obesity through diet and exercise. The Youth Fitness Test, according to a Health and Human Services Department website last updated in 2023, “minimizes comparisons between children and instead supports students as they pursue personal fitness goals for lifelong health.” The return of the exam brought mixed reactions from some who study exercise. Trump is putting a welcome focus on physical activity, but a test alone won't make America's children healthier, said Laura Richardson, a kinesiology professor at the University of Michigan. The exam is only a starting point that should be paired with lessons to help all students improve, she said. “It's not just, you get a score and you're doomed,” said Richardson, whose teaching focuses on obesity. “But you get a score, and we can figure out a program that really helps the improvement.” This article was provided by The Associated Press.

Today's topic is all things matrescence as we look at the book, Mothershift: Reclaiming Motherhood as a Rite of Passage. We will discuss the process of matrescence and the developmental steps that many people do not understand. Join us to learn more! Jessie Harrold is a coach and doula who has been supporting women through radical life transformations and other rites of passage for over 15 years. She works one-on-one with women and mothers to facilitate mentorship programs, women's circles, rituals, retreats, and nature-based experiences. Jessie is the author of Mothershift: Reclaiming Motherhood as a Rite of Passage and Project Body Love: my quest to love my body and the surprising truth I found instead. She also hosts The Becoming Podcast. Jessie lives on the east coast of Canada, where she raises her two children, writes, and tends the land. Show Highlights: What is matrescence? Comparisons between matrescence and adolescence (both transitions are processes that take time) Jessie's model of matrescence: The Four Elements of Radical Transformation: Earth – Orient yourself to what's true, and name the change. Water – (Think tears.) Grief over the self you were before this transformation is a normal part of transitioning to motherhood. Air – The liminal space of the “in-between” when you haven't fully integrated into the identity of being a mother. Fire – An igniting of the ember within you as you integrate into the identity of motherhood. This motherhood transition is an opportunity to let go of other things that aren't serving us well. Systemic factors that force women into “losing themselves in motherhood” The challenges we face in motherhood are part of the development into matrescence, but we still need the tools and resources to navigate them. “The Mother Powers”- the things that help us get through matrescence Matrescence is a beautiful process. How to navigate miscarriage as a healing rite of passage

On the Secret Witch Show today our guest is Siân Marie Pilkington. Siân is The Wild Mama who has raised her babies and has landed shakti-based, goddess-devoted, and in service to the taboos of blood, birth, sexuality and death. A queer celt, Magdalene, radical birth worker, herbalist, and ceremonialist, she guides femmes back to the Great Mother, blending primal intelligence with embodied, Earth-honoring magic.  Siân now works purposefully to decolonize the rites of passage we've been taught to fear, reclaiming birth, postpartum, eros, and endings as sacred. Mentoring doulas and space holders in altered states, ecstatic birth, and collaborative community care, her work is a love letter to those ready to remember, rewild, and bring initiations home. In this beautiful episode about death we explore Siân's sacred and unique perspective around miscarriage as a natural, ancient healing ‘rite of passage' - rather than the taboo, over-clinicalised, sanitised, dissociative experience it can be created as by our world.  Sharing the healing transformation she was able to reclaim from her own miscarriage, and the ancient wisdom passed down from elders, Siân shines a light on the interconnectedness of grief and initiation - and the role of ritual and ceremony in alchemy.  Providing practical advice on holistic practices, herbs and remedies to support healing, she illuminates the powerful remedy that can be found (for us all) in learning how to see and hear ourselves and share our stories - touching on shame, rage and grief - and how the witch can help heal the societal avoidance of death and grief. What You'll Learn from this Episode: Miscarriage is over-sanitised in our patriarchal culture - which has it commonly not seen as the significant ‘peak experience' and transformative rite of passage that it can be, similar to live childbirth and other life transitions Miscarriage can be a deeply emotional and spiritual journey where we learn how to meet ourselves, face and process intense emotions, including grief and loss - and even pleasure - yet it is also often seen as ‘taboo' and shameful Left alone, and if we can allow ourselves to sit patiently, whilst allowing everything to move through us, the body has a natural wisdom in how to process miscarriage - and we can attune to our bodies to navigate this.  We are broken in the process - we are giving birth to death - and, often, it is also the path to reclaiming our wisdom. If we have had an over-clinicalised miscarriage, we can still journey with reclaiming this rite of passage - this threshold - through ritual and ceremony, reclaiming parts of ourselves that have felt lost to this process. Telling our story - and being seen and held in sisterhood - is a deeply crucial step in our healing journey, for personal closure. Sharing it with others also offers a remedy for them, too. We are remedies for those like us. A Quest for Well-Being
Grieving Is A Sacred Rite Of Passage

A Quest for Well-Being

— Honoring Ancestral Grief work is very subtle and profound, that takes place on a molecular level. It takes patience, devotion, compassion and an open heart to generate and embody these changes, until one day the process unfolds organically and naturally without utilizing immense reservoirs of effort. Some of the positive changes occur on the neuroplasticity level, which is the brain's ability to change through growth and reorganization. Some manifest as a deeper attuned nervous system and wider access to the information and sacred wisdom our bodies carries, a whole inner architecture that we get to know, our ancestry library.  A big part of the work of processing the un-metabolized grief of our ancestors, is to grief for them, and by doing so, for us as well. Grief call us to life. There's an importance in embracing grief to help us find deeper meaning in the joy and vitality of life.  Healing this grief may come through reconnecting with our forgotten lineage, allowing us to restore a foundation that may be missing, from which we can move more deeply into relationship with the wider world. The prayer is for the individual sovereign work we do, to ripple into our families, communities, eco-systems, lineages and the earth. What we liberate in ourselves, echos back infinitely and eternally, as a different quality of energy gets passed on to the next generations. A holistic, ancient, awaked, wise energy. One that witnesses the stories from a birds eye perspective, one that is generating the oceans of compassion and light hearted freedom.  One that is expanding our map of consciousness, that is stretching the elasticity of our collective memory and presence. It is essential we support the accessing of our own inner wisdom, so that we may connect with the ancestor that we wish to become. Valeria interviews MayRav Nissim — She is an open hearted, warm and experienced therapist and space holder.  Her work is informed by a wide range of healing modalities to help you restore, balance, and bloom. The northern star of her work is the important role the mind-body connection plays in healing and growth. Her practice is the interweaving of Psychotherapy, BioIntelligence, Neurobiology and Indigenous wisdom. Her certifications and continued areas of study include Internal Family Systems Level 3, Somatic Attachment Therapy, Somatic Experiencing, Brainspotting, Sound Healing and an ever-present apprenticeship in Shamanic practices. MayRav views her work with clients as a shared, supportive and compassionate reminder of ways to reconnect with their most authentic self, while they integrate deep sustainable change. It is her intention to guide them to create a more rooted foundation in their body, mind, heart and soul, from which they may step into greater vitality, presence and wholeness.  MayRav honors the knowing that our individual healing work eternally ripples within our homes, families, lineages and systems. She is passionate about breaking the cycles of historical and intergenerational trauma at the individual and community levels, and deeply believes in the healing power of coming together in community to witness and be witnessed, express, grief, renegotiate and reorganize.
