I don't think any of us chooses to wear a mask. But creating and wearing them is taught to us from early on. And in some cases, it's a necessity to survive. Now here we are. Are we wearing a mask? More than one? I'm bringing an incredible show back from the archives. Lewis Howes is the host of the podcast, The School of Greatness, one of the biggest podcasts alive at this point. Lewis is a big, strapping looking guy. A former pro ball player. He looks like the definition of “all-American.” But few know that he began life with a learning disability, which led to being alone and bullied in school, to being sexually abused as a child. Years back he took on the topic of masculinity. Lewis' research looked at the majority of stress, anxiety, and pressure men feel is due to the masks they wear. Now, if you'll listen in, I feel the concept pertains very much to women too. Think of masks as certain personas we fall or buy into, and get trapped in. Then live from in a limiting life construct. Do you have any stress or anxiety? Do you feel any pressure? Would you like to be free of it? Let's look at the masks you may find out you are wearing. You can connect with Lewis at “The School of Greatness” podcast, which you'll find at the top of the podcast charts. As a teenager, Raven Saunders dreamt of playing basketball, but their physique led them down a different path. Exceptional strength and size destined them for shot put, ultimately earning them a place on the US track and field team.In 2021, amid the pandemic, Raven became known for their choice of distinctive protective masks at competitions. But the day they chose to wear a mask of The Incredible Hulk, they not only captured the world's attention, but they also showed hidden parts of themselves.Throughout history, masks have served various roles including spiritual, entertainment, and protective purposes. Since we've all been reacquainted with masks in recent years thanks to COVID-19, Matthew Syed explores how masks have the power to reveal more than they conceal and examines how these coverings, while ostensibly meant to protect, can also become powerful symbols of personal and cultural expression. With American shot putter Raven “The Hulk” Saunders, mask maker and psychodrama therapist Mike Chase, and Professor of International Politics at Loughborough University Aidan McGarry. If you are suffering distress or despair, details of help and support are available at bbc.co.uk/actionlinePresenter: Matthew Syed Producer: Julien Manuguerra-Patten Editor: Katherine Godfrey Sound Design and Mix: Rob Speight Theme music by Ioana SelaruA Novel production for BBC Radio 4.

It’s not Normal, It’s Toxic-rid your life of toxic people

Masking our personality is something that we all struggle with. It is easy to want to cover up who we really are around people who may not like us, around those who make us feel unsafe, or around those who we are threatened by. We change who we are in certain environments so our vulnerable ares and weaknesses do not show. Why would we do this? To gain approval/acceptance of others - To avoid conflict - To lessen fear - To gain love - To make others happy. I am not pointing fingers at anyone because I myself had perfected the art of mask wearing when I found myself facing the shame of being in an emotionally abusive relationship for many years. I did not realize the damage that had been done to my emotional health until years later. In order to hide my past I began to wear masks to that I would not have to explain to others anything about the shame I felt. I am not sure that anyone knew the true Heidi for many many years. What masks do you wear? Want to know where to go next? What is the best thing to do first? Click here and see how you are feeling right now and lets get started on throwing your masks out the window. https://coachingwithdrheidi.com/work-with-me

In this Halloween episode, I talked about how I'm not actually a fan of dressing up in costumes, but I love the feeling of spooky season and the idea of being more like the people who inspire us. I delved into the duality of masks, the reasons behind hiding one's true self, and the potential for masks to be empowering or constraining. Drawing inspiration from celebrities, I explored the power of embodying qualities that resonate with our desires and aspirations, emphasizing the importance of understanding what one truly wants in life and relationships.  I also introduced a new offering inspired by the mystery of the season, 2024 Surprise Readings! There are a few spots available for this opportunity to receive 3 audio readings at intuitively inspired times throughout the year. Sometimes we don't think to seek out readings or guidance when we need them the most, so my intention is that I'll be inspired to provide these readings when it's aligned! I would love to know who your expanders and inspirers on, and what masks you might try on next!    Episode Summary: I'm reflecting on my personal feelings about Halloween, highlighting my preference for the holiday's energy and my enjoyment of spooky themes, rather than participating in costumes. I'm exploring the concept of masks, considering how they can either conceal one's true self or serve as a source of empowerment and enhancement. I'm discussing the significance of identifying qualities and inspirations in celebrities like Taylor Swift & Travis Kelce, Aubrey Plaza, Pamela Anderson, and Mr. Dress-up. I'm emphasizing the idea of "expanders" or "inspirers," individuals who embody qualities I admire and how they influence my personal growth. I'm highlighting the role of my personal desires and inspirations in shaping various aspects of my life, including relationships and creative endeavors. I'm sharing insights from the Five Love Languages, particularly how my perspective on acts of service has evolved as an essential aspect of my love language. I'm encouraging listeners to identify qualities they wish to see more of in their lives, whether in relationships or personal development, and underscoring the opportunities that can arise when seeking and embodying those qualities. Today I'm sharing a conversation I had with bestselling, Christy Award winning author Roseanna M. White. We talked about her latest novel and the first in her Imposters series, A Beautiful Disguise. We also discussed the spy mania that took over England in the early 1900s and the creation of the United Kingdom's Military Intelligence, Section 5. Roseanna was my very first interview three years ago when I started the show. It was so fun to host her again! Here's the description of A Beautiful Disguise: Left with an estate on the brink of bankruptcy after their father's death, Lady Marigold Fairfax and her brother open a private investigation firm marketed to the elite . . . to spy on the elite. Dubbed The Imposters, Ltd., their anonymous group soon becomes the go-to for the crème of society when they want answers delivered surreptitiously. But the many secrets Marigold learns about her peers pale in comparison to her shock when she and her brother are hired to investigate her best friend's father as a potential traitor. Sir Merritt Livingstone has spent a decade serving the monarch in the most elite guard, but when pneumonia lands him behind a desk in the War Office Intelligence Division just as they're creating a new secret intelligence branch, he's intent on showing his worth. He suspects a man of leaking information to Germany as tensions mount between the two countries but needs someone to help him prove it, so he turns to The Imposters, Ltd. No one knows who they are, but their results are beyond compare. Lady Marigold is determined to discover the truth for her friend's sake, and she's more determined still to keep her heart from getting involved with this enigmatic new client . . . who can't possibly be as noble as he seems.
