Sometimes those memories are about how they led their classes, making everyone feel accepted and valued, and sometimes we recall a humorous moment, or maybe a hat or other accessory that became that teacher's "brand."  More often, however, we look back fondly on how that teacher made us feel, what he or she did to help us learn, or the way their concern and understanding was conveyed to us. If you are a great teacher now, you are also building a storehouse of memories. Thank you.  If you don't serve in a teaching role, you know someone who does, regardless of their job title. Take a moment to share a word of appreciation with that person. Great teachers make a difference. Let them know that you've noticed. 2023 – n/a 2022 – episode 38 – Great Teachers – Everyone Knows One – May 6, 2022 – 13 minutesEpisode SummaryReleased for Teacher Appreciation Week, but pertinent at any time, this episode consists of a brief compilation of comments from Lead. Roger Steare, a philosopher in business, helps people think about their purpose, values, and how to make the right decisions. He has developed a moral reasoning framework and emphasizes the importance of compassion, friendship, and fairness in ethical decision-making. He believes that integrity is demonstrated through the alignment of values and actions, and that good, simple rules are necessary to guide behaviour. Steare also discusses the impact of greed and fear in the corporate world and how they can influence decision-making. The conversation explores the themes of greed, fear, conformity, and moral leadership. Greed is described as a form of fear, driven by the fear of not having enough. The primal fear of not having basic needs met, such as belonging and material possessions, is hardwired into humans. However, the pursuit of wealth and material possessions does not lead to happiness or fulfilment. The conversation also emphasizes the importance of moral leadership and creating organizations with a shared moral purpose, values, and simple agreed rules. Conformity is seen as a jailer of freedom and the enemy of growth, while humour, humility, and humanity are highlighted as essential qualities for individuals and organizations.TakeawaysEthics is the art of moral reasoning and involves deciding right from wrong.Integrity is demonstrated through the alignment of values and actions.Compassion, friendship, and fairness are important values in ethical decision-making.Good, simple rules are necessary to guide behaviour.Greed and fear can influence decision-making in the corporate world. Welcome back to a new episode of Operation Be: The Podcast.    In this episode, I am going to talk about the importance of our basic human needs. I want to discuss the uncomfortable part of this topic, which is the fact that it IS okay to make your own needs more important than those of others, and that we should all stop pretending that we don't matter most.   So often, especially for women, we are taught from a young age to take care of others. Think about it…most young girls will have their first job as a babysitter or caregiver, so from the start we are encouraged to diminish our own needs in an attempt to prioritize others. I have learned through some pretty tough personal experience, that the longer we ignore our simple basic human needs like sleep, nutrition, hydration, and human connection, the more we risk our health in the long run. It really comes down to the ability for us to recognize our body's cues, and understand when we really need to focus on “us”  more, and less on others. Through my own journey of self awareness, I have come to truly believe that getting there is not hopeless…even if I have moments that feel that way.   I hope you enjoy the show!   *Mentioned in this episode:  www.wildessence.org Please share this episode and tag us with @jamie.thurber on Instagram or Jamie Thurber on Facebook. #OperationBe   Want to connect with me on social media? www.instagram.com/jamie.thurber www.facebook.com/jamiethurber.biz www.jamiethurber.com  https://www.youtube.com/@JamieThurber   If you're interested in getting the exclusive content I put out on the newsletter, sign up here: https://jamiethurber.com/newsletter   Join my community and let's take this conversation even deeper! What a joy it is to bring Christmas and hope to those in need, all over the world, and hear the stories of such great men and women dedicated to this mission work! We had the awesome opportunity to track down and visit with Rev. Ken Harbaum, our dear friend and long-time ministry partner of JMICF and TMM.About Pastor Kenneth HarbaumIn 2008, Pastor Harbaum fulfilled a lifelong goal to establish a means of providing missionaries with practical management services so they can focus on ministry. He established this administrative ministry through Covenant Global Evangelism (CGE). CGE's purpose is to keep missionaries in the field with little concern about how they will keep in contact with their partners and handling resources given for their overseas ministry. After much prayer and confirmation for God, the name of Full Gospel Temple was changed to Covenant of Peace Church on January 1, 2015. The mission and vision of the church remains the same. The name of the church was changed to reflect the covenant of God's peace that we as believers share with our heavenly father.Today, thanks to his friends and partners in ministry, Lightnings of God Ministries still puts an intense effort into fulfilling the call by taking qualified teams into Kenya and conducting seminars for pastors and leaders. The growth of Lightnings of God Ministries has included a Branch Office in Kenya along with local churches under the name of Covenant of Peace Church.Pastor Harbaum is honored to serve on Dr. Mark T. Barclay's President Cabinet for the Righteous Preachers Network. Pastor Harbaum is also the Director of the World Missions Department for the Full Gospel Fellowship of Churches and Ministers Int'l.Learn More:  https://copiministries.orgWebsite: https://terrymize.comOrphan Giving Site: https://orphan1.comGIVE HERE! https://cutt.ly/ttW2I5ZFollow Terry Mize Ministries on FACEBOOK: https://cutt.ly/terrymizeministries-FACEBOOKYOUTUBE: https://youtube.com/user/terrymizeministriesListen to the Terry Mize Podcast- https://cutt.ly/TfnK8I6ABOUT THE MINISTRY OF TERRY L. Rising costs of living and increasing student housing rates have exacerbated college retention efforts as campus leaders look to tackle a rising concern: basic needs insecurity.   A lack of essential resources such as food, housing and clothing and general financial strain are two of the top reasons students say they leave college.   To address this issue and provide resources to students, the University of Houston opened its Center for Student Advocacy and Community in 2020, which houses some of the university's essential needs programs. I spoke with the center's director and assistant director about the relationship between student success and basic needs and how to promote resources across campus.  In this episode, host Ashley Mowreader speaks with the University of Houston's director, Michael Crook, and associate director, Kevin Nguyen, of the Center for Student Advocacy and Community to learn more about how the center operates, the ties between basic needs and student success and some of the center's future goals.  Hosted by Inside Higher Ed Student Success Reporter Ashley Mowreader. Day 252: The Common Good (2024)

The Catechism sets up a pair of definitions for us that, at first glance, appear circular, but upon close examination, reveal profound interdependence: “The good of each individual is necessarily related to the common good, which in turn can be defined only in reference to the human person.” Fr. Mike uses a fascinating thought experiment to illustrate where the common good originates: you. Today's readings are Catechism paragraphs 1905-1912. This episode has been found to be in conformity with the Catechism by the Institute on the Catechism, under the Subcommittee on the Catechism, USCCB.
