Lost Byways is a podcast about the vagabonds, troubadours, & travelers that make up the world. We focus (mainly) on music, literature, & travels - but shy away from no subject when the mood hits. Come get lost with us!
Ira Hicks and Ryin Jones sit down with singer-songwriters Carter Sampson and Erik the Viking (Erik Oftedahl) to talk about life on the road and all they have up their sleeves. This episode is bookended with a live track from each artist, Carter Sampson's "Wild Bird" and Erik the Viking's "Another Prayer for the Damned". Find more from each artists by visiting them on the web at http://cartersampson.net and http://erikthevikingmusic.net
Ira Hicks heads down to Austin, TX to chat with singer/songwriter (and one of my favorite graphic artists) Chris King. They discuss everything from his new album "Animal" - scheduled to be released soon - to the state of the current music scene. We wrap up the session with "Native Son," a track taken from Chris' prior album "1983" - available on iTunes. Learn more about Chris King at http://christopherck.com or follow him on Twitter at "artificialchris"
This week we ... well, we probably somehow insult your favorite city. We introduce our Lost Byways "Barguments" segment with an episode centered on travel. Spawned from two different perspectives on a recent trip to Austin, TX, we dive into what makes a city great/awful and what we'd consider the best and worst cities to visit in the US. In all of our differences in opinion, it seems we can only agree on two things 1) when you are in New Orleans you EAT AT ADOLFO'S ON FRENCHMEN STREET, and 2) Las Vegas is awful.
This week we chat with Tim Schoelen, the founder of OKC's Mustang Brewing Company, about the state of craft/local beer and how we all want Burt Reynolds to be in our movie. Then our own Ira Hicks heads over to the Wormy Dog Saloon to catch up with Derek Paul and talk about his start as a singer-songwriter and his recently released album with his band The Handsome Devils. Be sure to catch the live performance of Derek's "Wolves" near the end - it's a song that will stop you in your tracks! For more details, including show notes, be sure to visit http://lostbyways.com
Join us as we discuss the mythical creature known as singer-songwriter John Moreland and why you should keep Ira away from your nachos. We dive into some of our favorites in the Americana scene, including new releases from John Moreland, Jason Isbell, and The Turnpike Troubadours. As well as our thoughts on the new Harper Lee book "Go Set a Watchman" and Christopher Moore's upcoming "Secondhand Souls".
