Characteristics of the New Covenant

All those in the New Covenant are truly saved from sin.

Jesus Christ fulfills the promises -Seed, Land, Blessing- of the Abrahamic Covenant finally and ultimately in the New Covenant.

The prophets declared--Israel's failure to keep the Old Covenant.-A warning that God would bring Judgment.-God will not abandon His people, but will restore and transform them as a New Covenant community including the gentiles.-The future blessing and inheritance of the New Heavens and New Earth.-The coming of Messiah to be the ultimate fulfillment of the first four covenants.

God fulfilled the covenant in three ways--1. Solomon-2. Kings of Judah-3. Ultimately and finally in Jesus Christ-Psalm 132-1-18, Isaiah 9-6-7

Christ is our King

The Old Covenant foreshadows Christ as our perfect Priest.

The Old Covenant foreshadows Jesus as our perfect Sacrifice.

What good are the civil and ceremonial law to us today if they have passed away- They were a model and picture of the rule and redemption of Jesus Christ. -1 Timothy 2-5 The Old covenant foreshadows the mediating work of Jesus Christ in the person of Moses.

The promises of God to Israel continued on and are now applied to the church -the New Israel- under the New Covenant.-Galatians 3-29

The temporary nature of the Old Covenant. What passed away and what remained. The Moral Law of God is reinforced and strengthened under the New Covenant.

What passed away and what remains- The Ten Commandments remain in full force.

What passed away and what remains- The Civil law has passed away.

What passed away and what remains of the Old Covenant- The Ceremonial Law has passed away.
