This podcast features two maybe, sort of, almost therapists: Heidi and Dom. Together they share, explore, and process what it’s like to be female 20 something year old therapists in training.
Episode 12 (S2): Heidi and Dom talk about what it is like working in their first professional positions. They identify the challenges and realizations of what it is like to be a developing therapist.
Episode 11 (S2): Heidi and Dom inform their listeners about all the changes they have experienced since the last episode of season 1. From pre-graduation to post-graduation, they reflect on the experiences of graduating, relocating, and starting their professional careers as associate therapists.
Episode 10: Heidi and Dom welcome Erin, a coordinator and former hotline counselor onto this episode. Erin shares her experience as a peer counselor and her plans towards becoming a therapist. Erin talks about emotional needs, social connection, and peer support during the ongoing pandemic.
Episode 9: Heidi and Dom acknowledge their present feelings of excessive stress, exhaustion, and overwhelm. They have an authentic conversation around what it is really like after a long or challenging day seeing clients/at practicum.
Episode 8: Heidi and Dom talk about how their ongoing development as trainee therapists are changing the way they interact with their family, friends, and loved ones. They begin to discuss changes in emotional capacity and boundary setting.
Episode 7: Heidi and Dom welcome their cohort mate Pearl onto this episode. Pearl uses her personal and professional insight to explain what codependency is, what it can look like (through a culturally sensitive lens), and her “sitting on your hands” technique.
Episode 6: Heidi and Dom welcome their cohort-mate Emma onto this episode. Emma shares her story of shifting careers, personal experience in long term therapy and what is it like for a therapist to be in therapy.
Episode 5: Heidi and Dom demystify associateships (employment after graduation/pre-licensure) in their own words. Thinking about careers post-graduation may look like, they candidly discuss their expectations versus reality.
Episode 4: Heidi and Dom talk about how practicing self care has changed due to the COVID-19 global pandemic. They share self care strategies that they use personally and ones that are helpful when in therapy sessions.
Episode 3: Heidi and Dom talk about what it's like being graduate students in a Counseling Psychology program. They share first year experiences and how it applies to the second year as practicing trainees.
Episode 2: Heidi and Dom continue talking about why others should take them seriously and why they decided to start the podcast. They share personal experiences with ageism and imposter syndrome as well as explore current challenges, areas of growth and strengths as young trainee therapists.
