Have you ever been threatened online or received unwanted messages that left you feeling unsafe and harassed? The US Supreme Court just made a shocking decision that could affect your online safety. In a case involving cyberstalking, the Court sided with the alleged stalker, Counterman, who sent thousands of threatening messages to musician Coles Whalen, causing her immense fear and distress. The Court ruled 7-2 in favor of Counterman, stating that the prosecution must prove the sender's subjective intent to threaten, not just rely on an objective standard. This decision has far-reaching consequences, potentially protecting stalkers and abusers who consciously disregard the harm they cause. This video dives deep into the case, comparing it to previous rulings on First Amendment rights, commercial speech, and more. It questions the logic behind this decision and how it could put victims of stalking and harassment at greater risk. Join the discussion on TikTok or YouTube under the handle "cases and controversy" and share your thoughts on this controversial ruling. Your online safety may depend on it!

Pauli Murray is the first person to address intersectionality issues relating to race and gender. Many years before Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Thurgood Marshall, Malcolm X and other well-known Black leaders were fighting in the Civil Rights Movement, Pauli had already fought, and won, those fights. She provided the blueprint for those leaders - or followers of Pauli. As Thurgood Marshall said, one of Pauli's books was the "bible" that the leaders used to navigate the Civil Rights Movement. She also provided the roadmap to Marshall and his team on how to overturn Plessy v. Ferguson and eradicate Jim Crow laws. Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg flat out said that she was standing on Pauli's shoulders when she was pioneering women's rights in the 1960's and 70's. Ginsburg acknowledged that the civil rights leaders at that time weren't doing anything new; they were simply re-doing what Pauli had done but at a time when society was more ready to listen. Pauli was born in November of 1910 and died in July of 1985. During that time, she was instrumental in creating the arguments, and fighting the fights that ultimately lead to Black Americans obtaining civil rights, women gaining equality and society being more livable. She is also the most unknown, but most influential woman in American history.

About 90% of people waive their Miranda rights and choose to speak with the police not realizing the police are using what's called the Reid Technique during the conversation to get them to confess to a crime. Attorney and author, Cedric Hopkins, is here to serve as your guide as he leads vibrant and provocative discussions on thought-provoking legal issues that are currently controlling your daily life. One goal of The People v. Podcast is to educate you about your rights and the law with lively discussions around important and practical legal topics. The other goal of the podcast is to investigate true crime cases. Cedric operated a law practice that was focused on investigating post-conviction criminal cases where he would conduct extensive investigations in order to either overturn a conviction or reduce a prison sentence. The podcast will serve the same purpose: we'll be discussing true crime cases but with a focus on cases where something can actually be done on the case. We're not just going to talk about sensational murders or missing persons cases; we're going to be reviewing police reports thoroughly, finding missing pieces of a timeline and discovering new evidence that can shed new light on a case.
