On October 7, 2022, a 22-year-old black woman is frantically knocking on doors in a suburban neighborhood on the outskirts of Kansas City, Missouri. When police arrive, they find the distressed woman with duct tape around her neck, wearing a trash bag, and a metal collar with a padlock. She tells police she had been held against her will and sexually assaulted by a man at a home nearby. But this is just the beginning. City law enforcement knows - but has consistently denied - that local black women have been going missing. When another victim turns up murdered, the lies and cover-ups begin to be exposed. And things turn uglier when a retired former detective is implicated in other local murders, with misconduct and malfeasance more prevalent than many realised. Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Fold parchment paper into envelope. Sprinkle each filet with creole seasoning and place into bottom half of parchment envelope. 2. Finely slice peppers and onions. Cut cherry tomatoes in half. 3. Top each envelope with onion, tomatoes, peppers, capers, salt, garlic, basil, and sprinkle olive oil. Close the bag, flip over onto a baking sheet and bake for 20 minutes. Dirty Rice Ingredients: * 3 tbs vegetable oil * 1 pound chicken livers * ½ pound chicken sausage * 1 cup chopped yellow onion * ¾ cup chopped green bell pepper * ¼ cup chopped celery * 2 tsp minced garlic * 1 tbsp creole seasoning * 1 tsp salt * 1 tsp black pepper * 2 cups chicken stock * 2 bay leaves * 5 cups cooked rice * ¼ cup minced parsley Steps: 1. Cook rice. 2. Sauté chicken livers and sausage in oil. Once meat is brown, add onions, bell peppers, celery, garlic, creole seasoning, salt and pepper. 3. Add stock and bay leaves, bringing to a boil. Once boiling, lower heat to simmer and cook for 5 minutes. Add cooked rice and stir thoroughly. Remove bay leaves and add parsley. There are lots of stereotypes that come with being a member of Gen Z, but few are truer than the idea of us having a poor attention span, being obsessed with TikTok, and hating to consume media if it’s not in a short-form package. On her way to solve this crisis of media illiteracy that has consumed our generation is self-proclaimed “media literate hottie,” and today’s guest, Kelsey Russell. Kelsey is an entrepreneur, influencer, and podcaster with a goal of using print media as the vehicle for promoting better emotional regulation when interacting with news. This mantra comes to life on her TikTok page of nearly 100K followers, where she dynamically reads different newspapers and magazines to her audience.
