Is Kouri Richins about to get a second chance? She was convicted of aggravated murder, sentenced to life without parole on her husband's birthday, and her own children asked the judge to never let her out. Now her lawyers have filed a fourteen-page motion arguing she was denied a fair trial — and the judge who convicted her has stepped aside.Tony Brueski goes through the motion's three claims: judge bias, excessive financial evidence, and cumulative error. The defense compares Kouri's case to Alex Murdaugh's overturned conviction. The episode explains why that comparison collapses — the Murdaugh ruling turned on jury tampering that doesn't exist in the Richins case. The episode also covers what the motion reveals about the pattern that has defined Kouri Richins since the night Eric died. A children's grief book published while she was free. A text to an admirer after the guilty verdict promising to "expose them all." And now a fourteen-page filing blaming the judge. Three moments across four years, same operating system.Inside: the full text of the admirer message from the sentencing memo, the courtroom footage of Kouri rolling her eyes while counselors read her sons' letters, her forty-five-minute sentencing speech telling her children to "be like your dad," the three GIFs accessed on her phone the morning Eric was found dead, and the twenty-six financial felonies still pending. Eric's sister told the court he believed Kouri was the most evil person he'd ever met — and he stayed in the marriage anyway to protect his boys.Join Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? Three cases sitting in front of three different systems. None of those systems have delivered what was promised.Nolan Wells was an eighteen-year-old who went to a boat party on Horn Island, Mississippi, and was the only one who did not come home. The state performed an autopsy and retained his throat. The trachea, hyoid bone, and laryngeal cartilage. Nineteen days later, no results released. The family's independent autopsy came back undetermined. A grand jury referral is pending.Nancy Guthrie has been missing from her Tucson home for close to six months with no arrest and no suspect named. On the same day in July, three FBI sources gave three contradictory answers about the ransom notes. A retired FBI agent told a national audience the case is cold. Genetic genealogy testing on DNA from her home started five months ago with no public update.Lindsay Clancy's jury is seated. Both sides agree she killed her three children. She was prescribed thirteen psychiatric medications in four months. After the children died, she was intubated in a hospital bed and wrote a single question on a whiteboard. The prosecution reads it as guilt. The defense reads it as confusion.A grand jury with subpoena power is pending in Mississippi. Three FBI sources in Arizona cannot agree on the nature of their own central evidence. A medical system in Massachusetts prescribed thirteen drugs, ignored a husband saying his wife had turned into a zombie, and the state now wants to prove that patient was sane beyond a reasonable doubt. None of these institutions delivered what they were built to deliver.Retired FBI Special Agent Jennifer Coffindaffer examines all three cases, the systems behind each, what connects their failures, and why none of them have produced the answers these families need.Join Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/ Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? The medical system that prescribed thirteen drugs and ignored the husband's warnings is now the same system the prosecution needs to prove produced a sane patient. Kouri Richins filed a motion for a new trial. Seven weeks after a judge sentenced her to life without parole for the aggravated murder of her husband Eric Richins. Seven weeks after her own sons begged the court to keep them safe. Her attorneys claim the judge showed bias, that financial crimes evidence unfairly prejudiced the jury, and that she deserves the same kind of do-over that Alex Murdaugh received in South Carolina.Tony Brueski tears apart every claim. The Murdaugh comparison is the centerpiece of the defense strategy and the weakest part of it — the South Carolina ruling turned on proven jury tampering that has no equivalent in the Richins case. The episode walks through both pillars of the Murdaugh reversal and shows why only one of them applies, and even that one doesn't apply the way her lawyers need it to.The judge has stepped aside. A new judge will rule on the motion. The episode covers what that means procedurally and why it's standard practice, not an admission of anything.Inside the episode: the three specific claims in the motion, the financial evidence that the defense calls prejudicial and the prosecution calls motive, the text Kouri sent an admirer after the guilty verdict promising to "expose them all," and the courtroom footage of Kouri making faces while counselors read her children's statements. Her sons no longer call her Mom. One wrote that what she did was "very sick." Another said he wouldn't feel safe if she were free. Eric's father told the court his son was a light taken too soon.Join Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? This week on Stay True Podcast, Madi sits down with Bible teacher, author, and The Bible Recap host Tara-Leigh Cobble for a conversation that might completely change the way you read Scripture. If you've ever opened the Bible and felt confused, overwhelmed, discouraged, or wondered if you're missing something, this episode is for YOU. Together, they unpack one of the biggest mistakes Christians make when reading the Bible, why so many of us unknowingly read Scripture through the lens of culture instead of God's character, and how seeing the Bible the way it was intended changes everything. They also talk about why reading the entire Bible matters, what happens when verses are taken out of context, and how to move from simply reading God's Word to genuinely knowing and loving Him through it. As always... be sure to stay you and stay true!   Topics we dive into: -Are you reading the Bible the way it was meant to be read? -Why do so many Christians struggle to understand Scripture? -Why does reading the entire Bible matter? -What is the Trinity? -What does it actually mean to fall in love with God's Word?   Helpful Resources: The Bible Recap by Tara-Leigh Cobble: https://www.thebiblerecap.com/ The Joy of the Trinity by Tara-Leigh Cobble: https://a.co/d/0fBssi8C Dare To Be True by Madison Prewett Troutt: https://a.co/d/gdfpHX5 Stay True Website: https://www.staytruepodcast.com Stay True Merch: https://www.staytruepodcast.com/merch Veracity: For up to 65% off your order, head to VeracityHealth.co and use code STAYTRUE. WARDOGS ran its first ever gameplay livestream this week and it went about as well as you'd expect from a studio full of guys in their late twenties: the alpha codes were a QR-code disaster, the stream started two hours late, and it ended with a Twitch ban for throwing a sex toy across the room. And yet — the actual gameplay looked incredible. We break down everything we saw: the enormous map, the three-team control zone loop, the destructible environments, the buy menu, and why Bulkhead's 60 FPS performance floor and "gamers first, devs second" attitude has us more hyped for this game than anything else on the calendar. Plus: is a monthly subscription for better servers and anti-cheat a genuinely good idea or the start of a slippery slope? Then it's Hell Let Loose: Vietnam, which just opened its first free crossplay playtest on the new Đắk Tô Airfield map — the performance is fixed, the hit reg is fixed, and the map is a massive upgrade over that awful jungle one. And Battlefield 6 Season 4 finally brought naval warfare, Tsuru Reef, and a Top Gun crossover that people are somehow mad about. We close with what we've actually been playing — Overwatch ranked, Stellaris Nomads, a lot of Tarkov, and one MMO Raz will absolutely keep playing despite telling you not to touch it. Jake's out here getting one-tapped in Tarkov. Raz is defending a game he just called a pile of dog shit. Business as usual. 0:00 - Intro 1:40 - Patreon + Welcome To The New Gold Patrons 3:21 - Patreon Hangouts Are Back In August 4:40 - WARDOGS Ran Its First Gameplay Livestream 5:42 - QR Code Chaos, A Flying Dildo, And A Twitch Ban 6:52 - The Gameplay Though? We ban plastic bags to save turtles, but the EPA turns a blind eye to the abortion cartel dumping dead babies and potent hormone disruptors straight into our water supply. Over 60% of all U.S. abortions are now chemical, sending hundreds of thousands of doses of Mifepristone and chemically-tainted remains straight into our water systems every year. The crazy part? The EPA continues to look the other way, relying on a flawed 1996 evaluation that never accounted for today's mail-order abortion regime. It's time for real accountability. Watch as I break down why the EPA must add Mifepristone to its contaminant monitoring list… because what goes down the drain affects us all.

It's the buying and selling of a human life. In this episode, I'm exposing the dark truth behind the multi-billion dollar surrogacy and IVF industries. Caroline explains why cults like FLDS and Scientology fascinate her, shares her top cases (Jaycee Dugard, JonBenét Ramsey, Madeleine McCann, Amy Lynn Bradley), and argues that true crime can build awareness but also cause anxiety and overprotectiveness. Lindsay Clancy Trial Opens: Prosecution Rejects the Psychosis Defense Outright

The Lindsay Clancy murder trial officially got underway this week with opening statements in Plymouth Superior Court. Clancy, 34, of Duxbury, Massachusetts, is accused of strangling her three children — 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson, and 7-month-old Callan — with exercise resistance bands inside the family's Summer Street home on January 24, 2023. She faces three counts of murder and three counts of strangulation, and has pleaded not guilty. Her defense, led by attorney Kevin Reddington, rests on an insanity claim: that Clancy was in the grip of severe postpartum psychosis and psychiatric overmedication when the killings happened.Prosecutors weren't interested in letting that framing sit unchallenged. Assistant District Attorney Shanan Buckingham opened by telling jurors this was a premeditated act, not the product of a psychotic break — setting up the central question the entire trial will hinge on. Every witness, every piece of evidence going forward gets filtered through that split: did Clancy's mind fail her, or did she make a choice. Buckingham's opening didn't waste time easing into it.After the killings, Clancy allegedly attempted to take her own life by jumping from a second-story window, an act that left her paralyzed from the waist down. Her husband, Patrick Clancy, was out of the home running errands when it happened and has since relocated to Manhattan, where he's spoken publicly about her mental health struggles. The trial, presided over by Judge William F. Sullivan, is expected to stretch across several weeks.LinksJoin Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? Intubated. Unable to speak. Her three children dead. Lindsay Clancy was handed an erasable whiteboard in a hospital bed. The first thing she communicated was a question that the prosecution and defense interpret in completely opposite ways. The jury is seated in Plymouth Superior Court. Both sides agree she killed her three children. The dispute is whether she knew what she was doing. The prosecution says the Apple Maps search on her phone, the timing of her husband's errand, and her actions during that window prove calculated premeditation. The defense says thirteen psychiatric medications in four months destroyed her capacity to understand reality.Zoloft. Prozac. Klonopin. Seroquel. Valium. Ambien. He publicly said he was not married to a monster. He forgave her.Massachusetts is one of the states where the prosecution bears the burden on insanity. They must prove she was sane beyond a reasonable doubt. Andrea Yates was convicted, then acquitted at retrial, under a Texas standard that put the burden on the defense.Andrea Yates drowned five children during a postpartum psychotic episode in Texas. A jury convicted her. A second jury acquitted her on retrial. Massachusetts places the burden on the prosecution, not the defense. The Commonwealth must prove Lindsay Clancy was sane beyond a reasonable doubt. With thirteen medications and a medical record full of ignored warnings, that burden may be the prosecution's biggest obstacle.Retired FBI Special Agent Jennifer Coffindaffer examines the whiteboard moment, the prosecution's risk in calling Patrick Clancy first, the Yates parallel, and whether this jury can clear the bar Massachusetts has set.Join Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/ Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? Lindsay Clancy's husband, Patrick, testified today in her murder trial — the case out of Duxbury, Massachusetts where prosecutors allege she strangled her three children, 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson, and 7-month-old Callan, with exercise resistance bands inside the family's Summer Street home on January 24, 2023. Clancy faces three counts of murder and three counts of strangulation. She has pleaded not guilty, and her defense — led by Kevin Reddington — is built on an insanity claim: severe postpartum psychosis, they say, made worse by psychiatric overmedication. Most of the day was procedural — Patrick laying out the timeline of prescriptions and the family's attempts to get Lindsay help before January 24, the kind of testimony the defense will eventually try to use to their advantage. Then it stopped being procedural. Patrick got emotional describing his children, more than once, and needed a moment to compose himself in front of the jury. Court is now in recess until Wednesday morning at 9 AM EDT, when he's set to continue testifying for the prosecution.Prosecutors are expected to argue Clancy understood the nature of her actions regardless of what her medication history looked like. After the killings, she allegedly attempted suicide by jumping from a second-story window and is now paralyzed from the waist down. Patrick was running errands when it happened and has since relocated to Manhattan, where he's spoken publicly about his wife's mental health. LAPD forensic evidence presented on Day 3 of d4vd's preliminary hearing connected the Hollywood Hills garage to the remains of fourteen-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez through physical fragments too small to see without a lab. Trace analyst Lisa LaHendro testified that pieces cut from a blue inflatable pool in the garage matched material recovered from Celeste's leggings. The pool had "scalloped and straight" cuts made by a sharp object. LaHendro found hair fibers, plant material, and black foam-like fragments inside it. Criminalist Samantha Tosch confirmed the DNA match between the Tesla, the home, and Celeste. Lauren Wallace described evidence of blood cleanup throughout the garage — real blood, scrubbed from surfaces in a space that also contained jugs of fake blood the defense attributes to music video production.Defense attorney Blair Berk focused her cross-examination on investigative gaps. Chainsaw handles never swabbed. The Tesla exterior never tested. Multiple residents in the house. She's building the framework for a trial defense centered on alternative access. The prosecution's response came through Detective Roecker's technology analysis — cell tower data that tracked Burke's Tesla and phone to Santa Barbara County three times, beginning the night Celeste allegedly died. Her passport card was found along that same stretch of Highway 154.Burke is charged with first-degree murder with special circumstances, unlawful acts involving a minor, and mutilation of human remains. He has pleaded not guilty. Celeste was fourteen years old, from Lake Elsinore. Her body was found in the front trunk of Burke's Tesla — one day after what would have been her fifteenth birthday.END_LINKS:Join Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/ Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? Eighteen-year-old Nolan Wells went to a boat party on Horn Island, Mississippi, over the Fourth of July. He was the only one of the group who did not return. He was the only Black member of the group. His body was found by a park ranger two days later.During the first autopsy, the state retained his throat. The trachea, hyoid bone, and laryngeal cartilage were all kept. Nineteen days later, the state has released nothing about what they found in those structures. The family's independent pathologist said that kind of retention is standard when there is concern about compression. The family's independent autopsy returned undetermined as both cause and manner of death. The pathologist said he could not rule out non-accidental factors. Seven questions from that examination remain unanswered. The official state autopsy is still pending. The DA has referred the death investigation to a grand jury. That body has subpoena power the sheriff does not. It can compel sworn testimony under penalty of perjury. The friends who were on the island have been telling their version publicly. Whether those versions survive an oath is the question this investigation is now designed to answer.Whether the public statements made by the people who were there hold up under sworn testimony is a question the grand jury is designed to answer. And the phones belonging to Nolan and every friend in that group will produce a digital trail of every message, every search, every deletion, and every gap. Digital forensics does not rely on anyone's recollection.Retired FBI Special Agent Jennifer Coffindaffer examines the throat retention, the grand jury path, what the phone data will reveal, and how long investigations like this take before producing answers.Join Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/ Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? On the same day in July, three FBI sources gave the public three irreconcilable answers about the ransom notes in the Nancy Guthrie kidnapping. Reuters was told every note is fake. The Phoenix field office indicated that some may be legitimate. TMZ's sources said the original two are more credible than not. That is three positions from inside one agency about the most consequential evidence in an active kidnapping investigation that has produced zero arrests in nearly six months.Nancy Guthrie disappeared from her Tucson home in January. A masked figure was captured on her Ring camera. Former FBI agent Steve Moore publicly declared the case is cold, telling Brian Entin that fresh investigators will eventually cycle in because the current team has gone as far as it can with its approach. The cons have made it worse. Derrick Callella pleaded guilty to posing as a kidnapper and reaching out directly to the family with fake ransom messages. Someone else sent TMZ twelve emails demanding Bitcoin. The investigation has had to devote significant resources just to separating real evidence from manufactured noise. The enhanced photo of the masked figure captured on Nancy's porch camera has never been released to the public. Nancy's face is on the billboards. The suspect's is not. These are choices, and no one has explained the reasoning behind them.If the FBI has results from those five months of genetic genealogy testing, the public has not been told. If they do not have results after five months on a DNA sample in a kidnapping case, the investigation is producing questions faster than it is producing answers.Retired FBI Special Agent Jennifer Coffindaffer has publicly challenged investigators on ten specific points, including the unreleased porch image and the question of whether the Bureau already knows who porch guy is. DNA recovered from Nancy's home went to a genetic genealogy lab in February. Why Is Lindsay Clancy's Old Job Being Used Against Her?

Lindsay Clancy spent her career as a labor and delivery nurse helping mothers through the most vulnerable moments of their lives. Prosecutors say that same job is proof she knew exactly how to work the people who were supposed to save her. She's charged with three counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of Cora, five, Dawson, three, and eight-month-old Callan, at their Duxbury, Massachusetts home on January 24, 2023. She's pleading not guilty by reason of insanity. Roughly three months before the killings, prosecutors say she typed something about her older children into her phone, a note a prosecutor later read aloud in court. The Commonwealth's case leans on the mundane: a text at 4:53 saying she didn't feel like cooking, a takeout order at 5:10, her husband out the door at 5:15 for dinner and a pharmacy run, back a little after six. Prosecutors say she measured that window using the exact clinical composure her job trained into her. The defense says she'd been begging that same medical system for help for weeks and was handed prescriptions instead. She's permanently paralyzed after going out a second-story window the night her children died. If convicted of first-degree murder, Massachusetts law gives the judge no discretion: mandatory life without parole. If she's found not criminally responsible, she's committed to a locked state psychiatric hospital instead, not set free. She's already been in state custody since 2023. Jury selection began July 20 in Plymouth Superior Court. The job that once meant she saved lives is now the state's argument for why she took some. Join Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/ Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? Lindsay Clancy's husband, Patrick, testified today in her murder trial — the case out of Duxbury, Massachusetts where prosecutors allege she strangled her three children, 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson, and 7-month-old Callan, with exercise resistance bands inside the family's Summer Street home on January 24, 2023. Clancy faces three counts of murder and three counts of strangulation. She has pleaded not guilty, and her defense — led by Kevin Reddington — is built on an insanity claim: severe postpartum psychosis, they say, made worse by psychiatric overmedication.Patrick's testimony centered on the timeline of prescriptions Lindsay was put on in the weeks before the killings, and how often the plan changed. Several medications, he said, were reportedly taken only a few times before being dropped or swapped for something else — a revolving door of adjustments that, allegedly, never had time to actually work. He also spoke to the family's efforts to get her additional intervention, testimony the defense will likely lean on hard when it argues she wasn't in a position to understand what she was doing.Prosecutors, for their part, are expected to argue she did understand, medication chaos or not. After the killings, Clancy allegedly attempted suicide by jumping from a second-story window and is now paralyzed from the waist down. Patrick was running errands when it happened and has since relocated to Manhattan, where he's spoken publicly about his wife's mental health. The trial continues in Plymouth Superior Court and is expected to run several weeks.LinksJoin Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? Lindsay Clancy's murder trial in Plymouth Superior Court comes down to a question the law may not be equipped to answer: can eighteen jurors unanimously agree on what was happening inside one woman's mind on a single night in January 2023?The prosecution and the defense are not arguing about what she did. ADA Jennifer Sprague alleges Lindsay mapped her husband's errand route, created a window of time, and strangled Cora, Dawson, and Callan with exercise bands. Defense attorney Kevin Reddington does not dispute the deaths. He's arguing Lindsay was in the grip of postpartum psychosis and couldn't understand what she was doing. Her medical history includes an ER visit, a McLean Hospital admission, reported command hallucinations, and a rotating cocktail of psychiatric medications her own providers couldn't stabilize.Patrick Clancy — the father who lost all three children — is on both the prosecution and defense witness lists. He has publicly forgiven Lindsay and filed his own lawsuit against her doctors.Tony breaks down the prosecution's premeditation case, the defense's insanity argument, the Massachusetts burden-of-proof standard that surprises most people, and why this trial was heading for a hung jury before a single opening statement was delivered.END LINKSJoin Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/ Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? The defense had its say this week as opening statements continued in the Lindsay Clancy murder trial. Attorney Kevin Reddington is arguing an insanity defense, centered on claims of severe postpartum psychosis and psychiatric overmedication.Reddington's opening leaned hard into character and context: a good nurse, a great mother, a woman who recognized something was wrong and reached out for help with her postpartum struggles before the tragedy happened. That's a very different story than "premeditated," and it's the one the defense needs jurors to hold onto through weeks of clinical and forensic testimony. The gap between those two narratives — deliberate killer versus desperate, undertreated patient — is what this entire trial is actually about. After the killings, Clancy allegedly attempted to take her own life by jumping from a second-story window, an act that left her paralyzed from the waist down. Her husband, Patrick Clancy, was out of the home running errands when it happened and has since relocated to Manhattan, where he's spoken publicly about her mental health. Focus on the light so you can create and become more of it. Study what you avoid. What makes you scared to act. Defensiveness is often protecting you from something you are afraid to face, but if you face it, you may realize your guard being up against it was the biggest hurdle. Leverage your effort into longterm upkeep of all the goodness in your life. Small repeated actions are what add up to create your life, so don't let it pass you by waiting for it to arrive. It is not the strongest of the species that survive, nor the most intelligent, but the most responsive to change. - Charles Darwin To love someone else is easy, but to love what you are, the thing that is yourself, is just as if you were embracing a glowing red-hot iron: it burns into you and that is very painful. Therefore, to love somebody else in the first place is always an escape which we all hope for, and we all enjoy it when we are capable of it. But in the long run, it comes back on us. You cannot stay away from yourself forever, you have to return, have to come to that experiment, to know whether you really can love. If Lindsay Clancy is convicted of first-degree murder, a Massachusetts judge has no room to weigh in on her sentence at all. The charge carries mandatory life without parole. Not the illness, not the medication, not the wheelchair, not a single fact about who she was before January 24, 2023, when Cora, five, Dawson, three, and eight-month-old Callan died at their Duxbury, Massachusetts home. The judge doesn't get a say. Neither does the jury, once they've reached that verdict. Lindsay is pleading not guilty by reason of insanity. She's a former labor and delivery nurse. Prosecutors say roughly three months before the killings, she typed something about her older children into her phone, a note a prosecutor later read aloud in court. The defense says she'd been begging the medical system for help for weeks and was handed prescriptions instead. She's permanently paralyzed after going out a second-story window the night her children died. The other possible outcome isn't freedom either. A finding of not criminally responsible sends her to a locked state psychiatric hospital with periodic reviews to determine whether she can ever safely return to a community. She's already been in state custody since 2023. Two rigid outcomes, and nothing in between since prosecutors dropped the lesser charges that once existed. Jury selection began July 20 in Plymouth Superior Court, and whichever way this goes, one number, life without parole or indefinite commitment, is the only thing waiting on the other side. Patrick Clancy is on the defense witness list. He and Lindsay have separately sued her healthcare providers, arguing the treatment she received played a direct role in what happened. Join Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/ Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? The Lindsay Clancy trial asks eighteen strangers to answer a question no one in the courtroom can prove. Both sides stipulate that she killed Cora, Dawson, and Callan in January 2023. The prosecution's entire case is built around proving she was sane when she did it — and under Massachusetts law, that burden falls on them, not the defense.ADA Jennifer Sprague's theory rests on a digital trail: Apple Maps route calculations, timed errands, and what prosecutors describe as a manufactured window of opportunity. She has called Lindsay a methodical killer who "executed" her children "one by one."Kevin Reddington sees the same facts differently. His client voluntarily admitted herself to McLean Hospital. She told providers she was hearing voices commanding her to harm her children. She went to emergency rooms. She called crisis lines. She took every medication prescribed. And none of it stopped what happened on January 24. Reddington asked the court to let the defense concede the killings and evaluate her mental state separately. The court said no.Tony delivers his case for why this trial was structurally doomed before the first juror raised their hand — and why the system should have allowed a plea that would have reached the same outcome without six to eight weeks of testimony that nobody in that courtroom will recover from.END LINKSJoin Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/ Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? Pool fragments on a dead girl's leggings. That's the evidence that came out of Day 3 of the d4vd preliminary hearing in Los Angeles, and it draws a direct forensic line between the Hollywood Hills garage where prosecutors allege David Anthony Burke dismembered fourteen-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez and the clothing found with her remains.LAPD trace analyst Lisa LaHendro testified that a blue inflatable kiddie pool in the garage had deliberate cuts — "scalloped and straight" — made with a sharp tool. The fragments removed from those cuts were recovered from Celeste's leggings. Criminalist Samantha Tosch testified the DNA matched. Criminalist Lauren Wallace found cleaned-up blood throughout the garage. And jugs of fake blood were sitting in the same space — the defense says music videos; the prosecution points to the real blood scrubbed from surfaces feet away.Blair Berk, Burke's defense attorney, spent her cross-examination asking what police didn't test. Chainsaw handles were never swabbed for DNA. The Tesla exterior was never tested. Multiple people lived in the house. Berk is building toward an alternative theory. But Detective William Roecker's cell tower testimony tracked Burke's Tesla and phone to Santa Barbara County three times — starting on the night Celeste allegedly died. Her passport card was found along that same highway corridor. The hearing continues. Burke has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder with special circumstances and other charges. Celeste was fourteen years old when she went to his home and was never heard from again.END_LINKS:Join Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/ Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? Lindsay Clancy was intubated in a hospital bed. Her three children were dead. She could not speak. She was handed an erasable whiteboard. And the first thing she communicated was a question that both sides of this case read completely differently. Her jury is now seated. Eighteen people in Plymouth Superior Court who have to answer one question: was she criminally responsible? Both sides agree she killed her children. The only dispute is her state of mind. The prosecution frames this as calculated premeditation. She checked Apple Maps to time her husband's errand. She allegedly strangled all three children in the window she created. She jumped from a second-story window and survived. The defense frames this as medical catastrophe. Thirteen psychiatric medications prescribed in four months. Her husband told doctors she had become a zombie. One prescriber did not know what another was doing. She asked for help over and over and the system ignored her.Patrick Clancy is on both sides' witness lists. The prosecution will call him first. He sued her doctors for malpractice. He told the press he was not married to a monster. He forgave her publicly. Massachusetts places the burden on the Commonwealth to prove sanity beyond a reasonable doubt.Andrea Yates drowned five children during a postpartum psychotic episode. A Texas jury convicted her. A second jury acquitted her on retrial. If the first Yates jury got it wrong when the crime was too horrific to sit with, this jury is staring down the same question with the same impossible set of facts.Retired FBI Special Agent Jennifer Coffindaffer joins Hidden Killers to examine the whiteboard question, what it tells the jury about consciousness of guilt versus medical shock, the Yates parallel, and whether this prosecution can clear its burden.Join Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/ Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? Opening statements began this week in the murder trial of Lindsay Clancy, the Duxbury, Massachusetts mother accused of strangling her three children — 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson, and 7-month-old Callan — with exercise resistance bands inside the family's Summer Street home on January 24, 2023. Clancy faces three counts of murder and three counts of strangulation. She's pleaded not guilty and is mounting an insanity defense, with attorney Kevin Reddington arguing she was in the grip of severe postpartum psychosis and psychiatric overmedication at the time of the killings.Assistant District Attorney Shanan Buckingham used her opening to lay out the state's core argument: this was not a woman lost to psychosis, it was a deliberate act. Prosecutors are expected to build their case around the idea that Clancy understood exactly what she was doing that day — a direct challenge to the psychiatric narrative the defense has spent months building. It's the fight this trial was always going to come down to: was this a mind that broke, or a mind that decided. Buckingham just made clear which side of that line the prosecution intends to stand on, and she's not planning to hedge. After the killings, Clancy allegedly attempted suicide by jumping from a second-story window, leaving her paralyzed from the waist down. Her husband, Patrick Clancy, was out of the home running errands at the time and has since relocated to Manhattan. The trial, underway in Plymouth Superior Court before Judge William F. Sullivan, is expected to run several weeks.LinksJoin Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? She's pleaded not guilty and is mounting an insanity defense, with attorney Kevin Reddington arguing she was in the grip of severe postpartum psychosis and psychiatric overmedication at the time of the killings.Reddington took his turn at the podium and built a very different picture than the prosecution's. His Lindsay Clancy was a trained nurse, a devoted mother, a woman who saw the warning signs in herself and asked for help — and didn't get the help she needed in time. It's the defense's whole case in one image: not a woman who chose violence, but a woman failed by the system meant to catch her before she fell. Whether jurors buy that framing over the prosecution's "premeditated, not psychotic" line is going to be the entire trial. After the killings, Clancy allegedly attempted suicide by jumping from a second-story window, leaving her paralyzed from the waist down. But the testimony that actually landed in that courtroom wasn't clinical. It was Patrick, describing his kids, and having to stop more than once because he couldn't get through it. Court broke for the day after that, and it picks back up Wednesday morning at 9 AM EDT, when he returns to finish testifying for the prosecution.Prosecutors are expected to argue Clancy understood the nature of her actions despite the defense's mental-health claims. The first autopsy on Nolan Wells did not return all of him to his family. The state retained his throat during the examination. The trachea, hyoid bone, and laryngeal cartilage were kept. The independent pathologist who later examined what was left said retention like that is standard when pathologists suspect compression. The family's independent autopsy came back undetermined. Not accidental. Not natural. Not homicide. Undetermined. The pathologist listed seven unresolved questions and said he could not rule out non-accidental factors. The official state autopsy results remain pending.Nolan Wells was eighteen years old. He went to a boat party on Horn Island, Mississippi over the Fourth of July. He was the only one in the group who did not come home and the only Black member of that group. His body was recovered two days later by a park ranger.Ben Crump announced the independent autopsy findings at the NAACP National Convention. The NAACP national board passed a resolution calling for a transparent review. The Jackson County DA has referred the case to a grand jury with subpoena power the sheriff does not possess. Many of the friends who were on that island have been talking publicly. They have given interviews. They have posted on social media. A grand jury brings something those public statements lack. Sworn testimony under penalty of perjury. Whether their accounts hold up when there are consequences for dishonesty is a question this investigation is now designed to answer.Retired FBI Special Agent Jennifer Coffindaffer examines what the throat retention tells investigators, how long a death investigation of this scope takes to reach a grand jury, what sworn testimony changes, and what the phone data from everyone who was on that island will reveal.Join Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/ Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? No suspect identified. No arrest. Former FBI agent Steve Moore went on camera and said what no official source has admitted. The case is completely cold. He told Brian Entin that fresh agents will eventually rotate in because the current investigators are stuck. This case has attracted cons alongside its genuine investigation. Derrick Callella pleaded guilty to posing as a kidnapper and sending fake ransom messages directly to Nancy's family while the real kidnapping was still open. Someone else separately sent TMZ a dozen emails demanding Bitcoin for information.
