If I am here, it is because I am convinced that the legendary Soissons Vase is still in the city...
It is dedicated to the soldiers of the first world war of course, but also to some of the nation's great mythic figures: Joan of Arc for example on one side of the pedestal.
The birthplace of Soissons is the beautiful old Axona river.
We have no formal evidence, but it is speculated that it was here, on the site of city hall, that once stood the fortified tower of Syagrius, "king of the Romans".
After being burnt down it was rebuilt beginning at the end of the 12th century.
We are standing on the site of the former Episcopal palace.
It dates back to 1910. Built on the site of the former general hospital.
