We The Wild Ones
Things are changing! And maybe somewhat rapidly from the outside view, but oh so slowly from my point of view. But finally, finally, I get to reveal the big exciting thing! Which is exciting, and kind of sad in a way, I guess. Exciting that Winnie the RV the podcast is evolving into a completely different podcast, sad that Winnie the RV the podcast will be no more. But she will rest easy knowing that the transition has been for the better. In this mini-episode, I give you guys the scoop on what is happening and when you'll be able to view the new podcast in all its glory. Things are changing and it's pretty dang exciting if you ask me! Anddd we're back to our regularly scheduled interviews. Well, no not really, this is more of a I-do-what-I-want kind of podcast thing. So there will be interviews and maybe some more of me just rambling and all that fun stuff. In today's episode, I had the chance to sit down with Danni who has recently made the transition to RV life with her 2013 Thor ACE and 2007 Honda Reflex Sport scooter. We chat about how Danni made the move to RV life and what inspired her to life-on-the-road. She gives some great tips for finding your own rig as well as adding a little more adventure into your life, no matter how big or small the adventure. Hopefully, you found this episode worth your time, or at least somewhat amusing, and if it exceeded all your expectations, it would be great if you wanted to leave me a review! Anywhere you listen would be great, but again I keep hearing that all the big kid podcasters are over at Apple podcasts, so it would be extra great if you said a little something there. But I do have some exciting news coming your way, some big changes are coming so get psyched. I’ll be releasing a special episode a week from today where I get to reveal the super big exciting surprise. So stay tuned for that! It’s that time of year again, or should I say it's finally that time of year again. We’ve finally made it out of 2020! That’s cause for celebration itself. I remember all the way back at the beginning of 2020 and was certain that it was going to be my year. How naïve and innocent those thoughts were. But we've made it through and on to 2021. In this episode, I talk about how my year went and a few of the goals I have for this coming year. Well, maybe not goals, but wishes, wants, and end up going on a bit of a ramble, so that's fun. There are also a few listener submissions with how their own years went and what they are looking forward to. A few listeners sent in text submissions, so you will hear my voice in there, but I promise I'm not sure making these people up! Keep a lookout for more opportunities to submit voice submissions and text submissions in upcoming episodes! Yeah, you read that right... I'm interviewing myself. So buckle cause it's going to be a ride. Well no, not really, I'm pretty tame. But in this episode, I tell you guys all about myself and kind of how I got to where I am (living at my parents' house while Winnie sits in their driveway) and answer some questions from you guys! I talk briefly about my college years and an internship that kind of changed everything. I went and hiked the Appalachian Trail after graduating and then was introduced to climbing and fell in love. With climbing. And the rest kind of goes from there. If you do have any questions about anything you've heard on this episode, shoot me a message! I'd love to hear from you and love to talk about anything hiking, climbing, travel, and more! We (still just Benny and I) would love if you left us a review on Apple Podcasts or anywhere really. Just take the first step towards what you want. Or as our "friend" Shia LaBeouf said JUST DO IT. In this episode, we talked to our friends Hannah and Matt, also known as Not Sorry and Posi from their time hiking the Long Trail in Vermont. Our talk ranges from them getting engaged (!!) on top of Killington Mountain, ways to just do it, how many dogs Matt saw, and our favorite bad superpowers. We skim over a little what it's like to finish hiking the Appalachian Trail and the post-trail depression that follows (if you do want more of a conversation on this please, please let us know, we would love to dive deeper into this topic!) as well as the fact that you do not need to be an expert hiker to start the AT. For both Matt and Leah, the AT was one of their first, if not very first, overnight backpacking experiences! Occasionally you may hear Matt saying "drink" usually following a mention of the Appalachian Trail... this might have something to do with that ages-old joke. How do you know when someone has hiked the AT? Don't worry, they'll tell you! You may also notice a few background noises and that the quality of sound is not as good as it was in our last interview. This whole podcast thing is still in learning mode, so we are still on a very steep learning curve! Better done than perfect! Our Four Questions: What's your best tip for living an adventurous life? Matt - Just dive in headfirst and figure it out as you go Hannah - Don't be afraid to fail What's one nonessential thing you can't live without? Matt - Soda Stream Hannah - Phone with the ability to read, take photos and write If you could have one useless superpower, what would it be? Matt - Grow facial hair exactly the way I want to Hannah - Make anything I'm eating taste like what I'm craving What's your favorite rainy day activity? Matt - Watching movies, with Vin Diesel Hannah - Reading Subscribe and review on: Apple Podcasts - link here Breaker Podcasts - link here Links to Social Accounts: Matt/Posi's Instagram: @positivemilage Hannah/Not Sorry's Instagram: @sirenical Hiker Trash and Trail Angel Instagram: @hikertrash_and_trailangel Website: www.hikertrashandthetrailangel.com Hannah's Personal Website: www.sirenical.com Winnie the RV Winnie's Instagram @winnietherv Website at: www.winnietherv.com Sounds and effects from Zapsplat.com
So you may have noticed a bit of silence across all things Winnie The RV. I promise I haven't dropped off the face of the earth or anything like that. Winnie and I and Benny are all alive and well. In this episode, I kind of go into the reason for our radio silence and talk a little bit about where I am and what I'm currently doing and dive into some real talk. Like relationships and why I am doing the podcast alone. If you've been in a similar situation, or just need someone to talk to about something like this, or just want or need someone to talk, I am here on pretty much all channels. Don't be afraid to reach out! We (Benny and I) would love it if you would subscribe to our podcast on Apple Podcasts since that seems to be where all the big kids are podcasting! If you wanted to leave us a review as well, that would be super awesome! In this episode, Dan and Leah conduct their very first interview with Arjan Nekoie. Arjan and Leah first met at the Noi Bai International Airport in Vietnam as they started new jobs at Asia Outdoors, a now closed adventure tour agency on Cat Ba Island. We talk about how Arjan got his start in the climbing world, advice he has for those looking to get into climbing and what his useless super power would be among many other things! The day-to-day. Normally not that exciting, but here Dan and I talk about exactly what is going on and how we live in a van, well small RV. We go over what our morning looks like and exactly how long it takes us to make breakfast (way longer than you might think!), we get our mornings sorted, and then we are off on the road again. Well, not always depending on if we are climbing or hiking instead. We get interrupted by an extremely long train, at least 5,000 cars according to Dan and I tell you about some of the awesome posts we have on our blog! Editor's Note: We did not get a stop-motion video of us making the bed, but that will be coming soon! In this episode, Dan and I will be talking about one of the less glamourous sides of hashtag vanlife. This is just one among many of the vanlife activities that do not make the Instagram famous posts, keep listen and you'll figure out exactly why. Yes, we are talking about a mouse infestation in Winnie. One that we have been dealing with since the very beginning of our trip. We discuss how we found the first mouse and what evolved from that point. Now, weeks later, we are what you could call vanlife mouse experts. Catch up on more mouse details and take a peek at the video of One-Eyed-Willie and Benny becoming friends! (link here) Editor's Note: Since we recorded this episode we have been mouse free since September 23, 2020 Resources from this episode Follow us at winnietherv.com and @winnietherv Sounds and effects from Zapsplat.com
Welcome to Winnie the RV, a podcast about adventures on and off the road. This episode is about introducing ourselves and trying to figure out how this whole podcasting thing is going to work. Leah and Dan are the hosts of the podcast and are currently living in their 1982 Winnebago "Winnie" with their dog Benny traveling across the country gathering stories of adventures along the way, both on the road and off. Episodes will be released every two to four weeks, and will hopefully be updated more often as we get the hang of this! Follow along with us as we travel from the East Coast to the West and everywhere in between at www.winnietherv.com and on Instagram @winnietherv. Hope to see you there!
