We were joined by Matt and Rachel, friends and hosts of the podcast Rein It In Matt and Rachel (anchor.fm/reinitin). We talk about the joys and horrors of international cuisine, and recall the story of how some tasty French stomach sausage led to Matt's fall from vegan grace. No longer podcasting in sin, Sarah and Brian are back to reflect on the fun and foibles of their (mostly) vegan wedding. This one is worth the wait.
Sarah's niece, Rosie, joins us to share a kid's perspective on veganism. We talk about her love of tofu and vegan cheese, what it is like being vegetarian in elementary school, and the challenges of testing out the vegan waters while living under your parents' roof.
Expeller pressed canola oil, vital wheat gluten, and H2O are on the menu as Sarah and Brian test out six vegan deli meats. They struggle through the funky smells, seedy bits, and weird spice combinations in search of the number one, most edible faux sandwich meat... so that you don't have to.
In honor of Valentine's Day, an episode about compromise. Sarah and Brian try to decide how vegan their mostly vegan wedding will be, and discuss compromises involving leather watch bands and grilled cheese sandwiches. But battle lines are drawn when it comes to the pinstripe suit.
The question "where should we go to eat tonight?" has turned many peaceful evenings to conflict. It is even more troublesome when tofu comes into play. Sarah and Brian talk about how they decide on restaurants, and offer a shout out to vegans making their stand in north Georgia. Theme music: Flattered by Blue Dot Sessions
Sarah and Brian discuss the difficulty of labeling people according to their lifestyle choices. Sarah talks about her slow journey towards identifying as a vegan, and tries to pin Brian down on his own term of choice. Much waffling ensues. Sarah and Brian ring in the new year by talking about aspirations big and small, from being more assertive in asking for menu accommodations to buying cruelty free products. Sarah declares herself a level 150 vegan, and Brian offers to give up his Old Spice. Theme music: Flattered by Blue Dot Sessions Show Notes: The tofu recipe we talked about can be found here. (We don't usually make the tacos themselves, but the tofu is great in a lot of things.)
Meeting a significant other’s family for the first time is always a challenge. Doing it as a vegan over Thanksgiving—that is an adventure. Sarah and Brian begin their podcast about vegan/non-vegan relationships with a holiday special. They talk about planning ahead, respecting hosts, and receiving non-vegan Christmas presents. Sarah sings and Brian wins the mashed potato contest. Theme music: Flattered by Blue Dot Sessions
