"I don't believe in any nonsense... but I'll keep an open mind. Out here, who knows?"In July of 1970, an Athena RTV rocket was launched from Green River, Utah. Containing the radioactive element cobalt-57, the rocket was supposed to arc harmlessly down in White Sands, New Mexico. But instead it went rogue, streaking south over the Mexican border to a desolate area near the Durango-Chihuahua state line. This location, known by many as the "Zone of Silence," has long held a reputation for the unexplained. Dating back to the 1800s, local homesteaders have claimed to witness "hot pebbles" tumbling from the sky. Planes have crashed here, meteorites fall with surprising regularity, and walkie-talkies reportedly malfunction within this sprawling desert. Under-recruited running back from a collapsed American city — with a single mom and a dream — wins the Super Bowl. Sounds familiar, right? But NFL coach Deland McCullough's story, as told through his new book with Sarah Spain, has a twist all its own. (Thanks to a little help from Sir Mix-a-Lot.) P.S. One correction, at the 17:50 mark: Deland McCullough's senior year of college was 1995, not 2005. • Read "Runs in the Family": https://www.simonandschuster.com/books/Runs-in-the-Family/Sarah-Spain/9781668036280 Learn more about your ad choices. When it comes to social media, it is said that many are oversharing. Details of one's life including family members, where they live, and the troubles they are experiencing can be known by hundreds, if not thousands of other people. For some, it helps to make them feel connected by bringing in new followers and friends. Before youtube and instagram they felt isolated and unpopular. The likes and comments boost their morale and make them feel wanted. But what happens when a content creator is suddenly disconnected from everyone? This week, we're covering all the chaos you didn't know you needed: from getting slapped with a charge for supplying booze to minors (allegedly, Your Honor), to Antonio Brown turning scrap metal into headlines. We ask the real questions—like what happens to Jim Irsay's treasure trove of rockstar relics now that he's gone? Plus, NBA ref Scott Foster eats an elbow like a pro, Darin Ruf has a Ruff (sorry, not sorry) day at work, and Liam Hendriks makes the rookie mistake of reading the comments. And in this week's biggest pickle: a "fan" sues his own team… because they suck. Buckle up, it's a wild one.Follow more by going to iapradio.comThanks for listening!

Jeezle Pete's! (Bryan)'s back in the states and this week's Carriage House Catch-Up is filled with tales of Europe, fantastic follow-ups, and all the fedoras and pipes you'd ever need to open your own detective agency. Our advice this week goes to a woman whose neighbor gives her the ick and a woman with a VERY odd mystery on her hands - the mystery of Duke the maintenance man. By the way, our very own (Bryan) Safi (ever heard of him?) is bringing his solo show to the Edinburgh Fringe this summer! Go see him if you're in the area. Tickets in his bio. This week, in Stowe, Vermont, a young woman trades in the corporate city life, to hopefully spend her time as a "ski bum" in the Vermont mountains, but disappears, while enjoying the outdoors. Her bike is left, leaning against a tree, while she was nowhere to be found. Eventually, detectives not only find her body, but figure a lot out, due to the cookies she was eating. Then, they link the whole thing to a man, who was under their nose, the whole time! This leads to a huge change in the way the state deals with DNA!!Along the way, we find out that maple syrup is a beverage in some places, that you should really watch where you leave cigarette butts, and that if someone's DNA is found on/in a murdered woman, they have a lot of explaining to do!!New episodes every Thursday & Friday!Donate at: patreon.com/crimeinsports or go to paypal.com and use our email: crimeinsports@gmail.comGo to shutupandgivememurder.com for all things Small Town Murder & Crime In Sports!Follow us on...twitter.com/@murdersmallfacebook.com/smalltownpodinstagram.com/smalltownmurderAlso, check out James & Jimmie's other show, Crime In Sports!
