by UFO History Buff & Author, Charles Lear While J. Allen Hynek was bringing the invisible college out into the open, he became involved with a documentary that has Rod Serling as its main host, along with Burgess Meredith, José Ferrer, and Vallée. The movie makes a compelling argument that UFOs should be taken seriously and includes appearances by former Blue Book heads Robert Friend and Hector Quintanilla.In its release in 1974 it was titled UFOs: Past, Present, and Future, which was changed to UFOs: It Has Begun for its release in 1976 and 1979. Besides being informative and entertaining and preserving a bit of UFO history for future researchers, the story behind its production has become a part of UFO history as well, as its producers were reportedly misled by the Pentagon into believing they would receive classified footage of a UFO landing at Holloman AFB in May of 1971.The footage was described as showing a meeting between the UFO occupants and Air Force officials. According to producer, main writer, and composer Robert Emenegger, it was going to be the finale of the documentary until the DoD withdrew the offer at the last minute.Robert Emenegger was interviewed by Mel Fabregas in 2009. According to him, he and Allen Sandler had originally set out to produce a series of films about advanced military technology, but were diverted by an intriguing piece of information offered by their military contact at Norton Air Force Base, Paul Shartle. Shartle, Security Manager and Chief of Requirements for the Audio-Visual Program at the base, said that he had seen a film of an alien craft landing at Holloman AFB in 1971. As discussions about possible projects continued, the idea that one of them be about UFOs came up and was encouraged by military officials who offered the producers the use of the footage. Tonight, Ryan joins us from Pennsylvania to recall the night in 1994 when a circular craft descended above him and two friends on a local golf course. The object hovered only 10 to 15 feet above the fairway with a stationary white centre and an outer ring of rotating coloured lights. While Ryan and his friend Matt watched in fear, their friend Anthony claimed he could see nothing above him. He was camping in an area known as the rock pit alongside US Route 1 on Grassy Key, a limestone quarry site used by campers and party-goers alike. While there, though, he was approached by a man he later described as a "hippie-type," who offered to show him a decomposing human body for a quarter. The camper declined and called the Monroe County Sheriff's Office.On December 30th, Detective Richard Roth was dispatched to investigate. Following the camper's directions, he makes his way into the heavily wooded area near the rock pit. Andrew Graham-Dixon's new book, Vermeer: A Life Lost and Found, rests on the conviction that you cannot understand what's in a painting without knowing what its maker was thinking about. In Vermeer's case, that context includes a forgotten liberal sect — the Remonstrants and Collegiants, Christians without a church who believed peace would come through reading and toleration rather than a returning Messiah. Recover that world and a woman alone in a sunlit room is a radical image in a Europe where half of Germany had just died in war. If he's right, the label beside every Vermeer in every museum will one day have to change. Eighteen-year-old Nolan Wells had just graduated from high school, signed to play college football, and spent Fourth of July weekend on Horn Island with friends. According to investigators, everyone returned to the mainland except Nolan. Two days later, his body was found on the island, launching an investigation that has drawn national attention and left his family searching for answers. As detectives worked to piece together Nolan's final hours, conflicting accounts emerged about what happened before he disappeared. A viral video shared by the Wells family's attorney has fuelled widespread speculation online, but investigators have not confirmed whether it is authentic or connected to Nolan's case. Questions also remain about Nolan's phone, the timeline of events, and what happened during his final hours. At the time of this video, authorities say they have found no evidence that a crime was committed and believe Nolan may have drowned, although the investigation remains active. Brett Forrest, The Lost Son: An American Family Trapped Inside the FBI's Secret Wars. This segment introduces the core of the mystery surrounding Billy Riley, a young man from Oxford, Michigan, who disappeared after traveling to Russia in May 2015. Billy is described as a product of the post-9/11 era whose life was fundamentally redirected by that event, leading him to develop a deep, self-taught expertise in global conflicts, religions, and foreign languages while operating from his parents' home as a "keyboard commando." His prolific internet activities eventually drew the attention of the Detroit FBI, who recruited him as a Confidential Human Source (CHS)—a type of freelance operative or "informant." The narrative highlights the tension between Billy's imaginative world and his physical reality; although he had not traveled widely, he was handling increasingly dangerous assignments for the FBI. One such assignment involved an online relationship with an individual in the Philippines suspected of being linked to Abu Sayyaf, an Islamic terror group allied with ISIS. Though Billy nearly traveled to Manila in December 2014 to meet this person, he backed out at the airport. However, by May 2015, he was determined to seek adventure in Russia, specifically heading toward the war-torn Donbas region of Ukraine. His parents, Terry and Bill Riley, were aware he worked for "the men"—his name for his FBI handlers—but Billy had become adept at being "coy," sharing just enough to intrigue them without keeping them fully informed. Notably, despite growing up in a traditional Catholic environment, Billy had converted to Islam through personal study, often reading the Quran in his Catholic school classes. The night before his fateful departure for Moscow, he met with his main FBI handler for dinner, a meeting shrouded in mystery that left his mother with a sense of parental intuition that something was wrong.
