In 1982, Sister Helen Prejean was invited to write a letter to a man on death row named Elmo Patrick Sonnier. She told us, “I thought that all I was going to be doing was writing letters. And lo and behold, two years later, I am in that execution chamber.” When we spoke to her in 2021, she was 81, and had been present at the executions of six men. Bizarre News - December 2025 | Paranormal Podcast In this December edition of Bizarre News, we kick things off with a terrifying close-to-home story from Canton, Ohio, where an off-duty police officer working security at a Walmart experienced what could have been a fatal encounter. While booking shoplifter Shane Newton and his female accomplice in the back of the store, the officer performed only a partial pat-down before turning to radio the station—that's when Newton pulled out a concealed pistol and raised it to fire. In what can only be described as divine intervention, the gun jammed at the critical moment, giving the officer just enough time to deliver a flying knee strike that broke Newman's rib and allowed him to wrestle the weapon away. We also dive into psychic Uri Geller's bold claims about the interstellar comet 3I Atlas, which he insists is actually an alien spacecraft carrying extraterrestrial beings who have peaceful intentions for humanity. Geller even reveals his own alleged encounter from 50 years ago when he claims he was shown frozen alien bodies by Werner von Braun deep beneath NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center, connecting his past experience to current cosmic events. Our bizarre journey continues with the disturbing case of Cedric Lodge, a former Harvard Medical School morgue manager who was sentenced to eight years in prison for running a dark web body parts trafficking operation. Between 2018 and 2020, Lodge sold human brains, skin, hands, and even complete faces as if they were baubles or trinkets, with one horrifying example involving skin being tanned into leather to bind a book. We wrap up with a geological mystery from Bermuda, where scientists have discovered a massive 12.4-mile thick layer of rock sitting between the oceanic crust and Earth's mantle—an anomaly never observed anywhere else on the planet that may finally explain why this archipelago appears to float above the surrounding ocean despite having no volcanic activity for over 30 million years.

The Night Stalker, a TV-movie starring Darren McGavin, Simon Oakland and Barry Atwater, was about an intrepid reporter named Carl Kolchak covering a series of bizarre murders in Las Vegas – murders he becomes increasingly convinced are being committed by an actual, real-life vampire.  It premiered on January 11, 1972 to blockbuster ratings and for decades was the highest rated TV-movie of all time.  It led to a sequel, The Night Strangler, and eventually to a 20-episode TV series that premiered on September 13, 1974. It's the TV show that most people my age remember – a weekly trip into horror that at the time had no equal. Chris Carter often cites his love for The Night Stalker as the inspiration for creating his hit series The X-Files. And of course, listeners of this podcast know about my affection for the show and how formative it was for me as a young kid. In last week's blog, we looked at the beginning of the modern crop circle phenomenon that first got the attention of the media and UFO researchers in 198o. This was described in the 1986 report compiled by Paul Fuller and Jenny Randles (written by Randles) for the British UFO Research Association titled Mystery of the Circles. According to Randles, the idea that UFOs had something to do with the mystery came from the fact that the first circles appeared in the West Country in the area of Warminster, which had become famous in the 60's as a UFO hotspot. When we left off, that idea was falling out of favor with researchers, particularly Ian Mrzyglod of the newly formed organization, PROBE, who is quoted from the March 1982, Vol. 2, No. 4, PROBE Report: “…even to suggest that the flattened circles were UFO landing nests is wildly speculative wishful thinking, without any foundation.” After a lull in attention in 1982, things picked up after eight sets of five circles appeared that were made up of one large circle surrounded by four smaller circles at equidistant locations. Prior to this, there had been only single circles or two or three in a row.Playing a large part in the media attention was the fact that the circles appeared in the summer, often called the silly season due to the fact that stories of a less-than-serious nature are used as filler in the midst of what is traditionally a slow news period. And, it did get silly. One example presented by Randles is Daily Express columnist Jean Rook being sent to one of the sites “to come up with a lovely, poetic ode to ‘E.T.,'” the titular alien from the movie. According to Randles, Rook “found physical evidence of his presence in the midst of one of the rings – a poppy.”Randles emphasizes that “serious UFO investigators refused to get involved” and notes that she, herself, refused to appear on BBC and ITV television, even though she had a new book to promote, The Pennine UFO Mystery. Read more →

These billboards were up for decades, seeking answers. Passing motorists could easily see either as they wizzed by in their automobiles. This is the information from one of them. At the top was a simple announcement - “After thirty years it is not too late to investigate” Below this text, the billboard featured pictures of each of the five missing Sodder children - Maurice, Martha, Louis, Jennie, and Betty.  The text below the pictures read… On Christmas Eve 1945 our home was set afire and five of our children ages 5 through 14 kidnapped. The officials blamed defective wiring although lights were still burning after the fire started. The official report stated that the children died in the fire. However no bones were found in the residue and there was no smell of burning flesh during or after the fire. What was the motive of the law officers involved? What did they have to gain by making us suffer all of these years of injustice?
