Episode 348 of the Vision Cast Podcast Network. Host JC (aka DJ Mac)settles into the chair after editor Salvis hands off for the night, then leads a wide ranging chat with the crew. Angela is out this week getting the house ready for her grandparents arriving Friday and her parents the following week. Katie can't join tonight and returns next Tuesday. JC checks in on the episode count: this is 348, with 350 in sight.Crew introductions follow. Nightingale Nora (Nora Thielking) talks about learning to chop her own food with a blender, getting through a rough patch, and looking forward to coffee with her neighbors. Donald, who syndicates the show on the Super Hit Mix Radio Network and helps with AI Radio, checks in next. Then Phil (Phillip) joins from California on his way home, with the heat finally easing off. Phil's only announcement: no work this Friday.JC walks through his own Friday: a life plan meeting with his self direction team in the morning, then his regular Delight Sensory Worship session in the evening, with a shoutout to the Delight Worship team and a possible behind the scenes piece coming in July. The weekend plan is JC's first walk across the fully gated pedestrian deck of the New York Beacon Bridge, end to end and back, camera in hand. Apple talk takes the middle of the show: hopes for iOS 27, taking the dev profile early so the September betas arrive on day one, what Apple Intelligence could finally do for accessibility, and a side trip into beta cycle history (iOS 26 had nine betas, iOS 27 might hit ten).Rita Garcia joins mid show fresh from doing laundry at her mom's placeand the crew catches her up. JC plays an archive clip introducing Denny (aka H.Streets) and one of Denny's jingles. Denny's music is on every major streaming platform under H-Streets, and his ACB Community Karaoke event is on the way back. From there JC pulls clips from Blooper Central, including talking clock interruptions and microphone mishaps, with plenty of laughs from the crew. Quick tech aside: JC is hunting for an Ambio Smart headset (USB-C version) which appears to have been discontinued. Rita lets the crew know her birthday is next Tuesday and gets early birthday wishes. JC then tells the smoke story: the eight outlet power strip on the back of his desk lost contact, let out a puff of smoke, tripped the breaker, no fire, and he has a new plan to keep the mixer plug safe before the AC goes in for summer. Preston Gaylor finally joins late but with a great excuse: a friend's church invited him to dinner and Bible study, and a church member drove him there and back, saving him roughly sixty dollars in Uber fare.Nora delivers a heartfelt shoutout to the rest of the team, including Veronica. Preston wraps the night with the signature "Keep technology alive, let your talents shine," and Nora caps it with her playful "Build the milk!"This week's announcementsAngela is preparing for visiting family and returns next week.Katie returns next week.Rita Garcia's birthday is next Tuesday.Denny aka H.Streets has an upcoming ACB Community Karaoke event.Radio Connection Live takes a Memorial Day pause and is back the week of June 1st. Keep technology alive, let your talent shine. Recorded 2026-05-27. Hosted by JC on the VisionCast Network.

Brian came home from the Smoky Mountain Bigfoot Festival with something sitting on his chest, and this letter is what came out of it. It is an honest, sometimes uncomfortable piece of thinking about what is happening in the Sasquatch field right now, and where it could end up if we do not pay attention. The piece opens with the people. The young woman from Ohio who waited until the end of the day to tell him about something she heard on her grandparents' farm when she was thirteen. The man from southeastern Ohio with an audio file on his phone, hoping somebody would tell him it was real. The woman from eastern Kentucky with her folder of photographs and her arrangement of stones. The man who explained, with complete sincerity, that Sasquatch can open interdimensional portals. The woman who believes they live inside trees. The young man with the dogman map in his head. These are not strange people. They are kind, ordinary, often quite intelligent. And what they believe has been shaped, in ways most of them do not see, by an environment that rewards the spectacular and punishes the careful. From there, Brian works through why we believe what we believe. He talks about the pattern-recognition machinery in the human brain and what happens when you drop that machinery into a world of trail cameras and YouTube algorithms. He talks about the human need for meaning, and the quiet pull toward the more meaningful explanation when the simpler one is sitting right in front of us. He talks about the role of community, and what it costs a person to question a belief that has become part of how they belong. And he talks, plainly, about the money in this field, and the incentive structure that rewards extraordinary claims without rewarding extraordinary evidence. He looks at what happened to UFO research in the nineteen seventies as a warning. A real question, taken seriously by serious people, that collapsed under the weight of louder voices and wilder claims, and spent forty years on the margins before the door cracked open again. He does not want that to happen here. He does not think it has to.The letter gets sharp on two subjects. The first is the Missing four-one-one narrative, and what it means to imply, without evidence, that an unconfirmed creature is responsible for the disappearance of real people from real families. The second is the Patterson-Gimlin Film and the controversy that has erupted around it this past year.Brian holds his position. He has not seen the documentary. He will not render judgment until he has. But he has plenty to say about what the controversy itself has revealed about the community. Drawing on his sixteen years in law enforcement, Brian spends time on what witnesses are and what they are not, and why taking a witness seriously means doing more than just believing them. He is honest about how his own thinking has changed over nearly forty years in this field, including the things he used to believe and has since had to set down. And he lands, finally, on the choice every one of us makes every time we sit down with a piece of evidence or a story or a podcast. Are we going to reward extraordinary claims with extraordinary belief, or are we going to reward them with extraordinary scrutiny. This one is long, and it is personal, and it is going to make some people in the community uncomfortable.Brian's okay with that. He thinks the field is worth more than the place it is drifting toward, and he thinks the only way to get there is to start telling the truth about where we actually are.Email BrianGet Our FREE NewsletterGet Brian's Books Leave Us A VoicemailVisit Our WebsiteBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/sasquatch-odyssey--4839697/support.Have you had a Bigfoot encounter, Sasquatch sighting, Dogman experience, or other cryptid or paranormal encounter? Thanks to everyone who joined for today's Substack live cooking demo — if you couldn't make it, find a full replay above! In the demo, I cooked smoky mole chicken enchiladas with lime crema, a recipe that turns a few humble pantry staples (peanut butter, chocolate chips, tortillas, tomato paste, spices, and chipotles en adobo!) into a delicious weeknight dinner. The only fresh ingredients you'll need are chicken breasts, white onion, a red bell pepper, some shredded cheese, sour cream, and a lime!Recipes that rely heavily on pantry staples are easy to make on nights when the fridge is mostly bare — they can also be more budget-friendly, since the cost-per-use of ingredients like peanut butter and spices is often quite low.Thank you to Thrive Market for sponsoring today's live cook-along, which allowed us to make it free for all subscribers! Thank you also to Thrive for making it so very easy for me to keep my pantry stocked up with high-quality ingredients (at an excellent price point!).In addition to pantry staples, Thrive is my go-to source for kids snacks and clean home products — I love that everything they sell is free from more than 1,000 artificial, synthetic, and GMO ingredients. I also LOVE their app and use it to immediately add ingredients to my cart as soon as I finish them, so that I don't have to write them down or try to remember later.Sign up here to get 30% off your first order (STOCK UP!) and a free $60 gift. Now's a great time because everyone — new and existing members — can get 25% off many products right now during their Friends & Family sale, which runs through Saturday, May 2nd. Also FYI that new-to-Thrive What To Cook Insiders get $100 off their first four orders! While we're talking pantry staples, here are a handful of ingredients that pack a TON of flavor that I always keep on hand. We've linked WTC recipes to cook with each! * Coconut milk — Coconut milk's a great dairy-free sub for cream that you can use in curries, smoothies, and soups. In my house though, it's most often used to make coconut rice! * Chipotles en adobo — We used these smoky, spicy peppers today for our mole chicken enchiladas! You can also use them for chipotle black bean enchiladas and cheesy chipotle shrimp tacos. Rarely does a recipe use the whole can, so store your leftover peppers and sauce in an airtight bag in the freezer.* Creamy peanut butter — My house is never without a jar! Again, we used it here in our mole sauce, but I also love mixing it with soy sauce, rice vinegar, and honey for a peanut sauce to serve on noodles or alongside potstickers. This peanut veggie curry is delightful, as are PB&Js, apples with peanut butter, smoothies bulked up with PB… the uses go on and on!* Curry paste — Curry paste packs SO MUCH flavor into just one spoonful! Keep your pantry (or fridge, once you've opened it) stocked with red curry paste (Mike's is my favorite) and you can cook thai chicken chops, one-pot pumpkin chickpea curry, and thai tofu curry noodle soup! * Jarred marinara/tomato sauce — You could make a homemade marinara… or let someone do it for you! I've written many recipes with store-bought jarred marinara/tomato sauce listed as an ingredient because if you get a high-quality brand (my favorite is Rao's), it really does taste homemade and will save you so much time and effort. Stock up on a jar to be able to cook 30-minute chicken Parm meatballs, messy meatball sliders, shortcut shakshuka, and 5-ingredient eggplant marinara. What flavor-bomb ingredients is your pantry never without?! For a complete rundown on what I consider to be a perfectly stocked pantry, click here. And for a fun take on this topic, read “If My Pantry Were to Disappear, Here's What I'd Restock Immediately” — a Bon Appétit article written by Alaina Chou that I recently weighed in on! Tony Katz and Fingers Malloy smoke the Camacho Corojo Toro and find out that a cigar sitting in the humidor for nearly four years can still bring plenty to the table. The guys break down the all-Corojo build, talk through the pepper, wood, and subtle sweetness in the profile, and debate whether this under-$10 stick earns a spot in the humidor. They also pour Two James Spirits Johnny Smoking Gun, a Detroit-made whiskey infused with Japanese tea that delivers one of the strangest and most interesting flavor profiles they’ve had in a long time. Smoky, herbal, savory, and unlike just about anything else on the shelf, it turns into a full-on tasting-room conversation about whether “weird” is worth $50. Along the way, Fingers brings in a surprise Gas Station Find that actually works, the guys argue about the right way to season burgers, get into neighborhood dog-walking etiquette, talk airline delays and TSA chaos, and take a look at a list of the best places to work in America. Don and Dude kick off March Metal Madness at the molten core of metal history, where early 70s riff worship collides with turn‑of‑the‑century whiplash politics and drop‑tuned chaos. Quiet is not invited as roaring Hammond organ runs, arena‑sized choruses, jagged time shifts, and Armenian folk‑tinged melodies slam together in a bracket‑busting showdown between a founding father of heavy and a band that made nu metal feel like something stranger, smarter, and way more volatile. The AlbumsDeep Purple – Machine Head (1972) Deep Purple bottle their live attack into a lean set of riff‑driven hard rock and early metal, powered by screaming organ, precision guitar runs, and road‑forged songs about speed, smoke, and space.System of a Down – Toxicity (2001) System of a Down fuse drop‑C chugs, political fury, Armenian melodies, and lurching song structures into a sharp, funny, and uncomfortably intense metal statement that made nu metal look small by comparison.Diggin' AlbumsThe Black Crowes – A Pound of Feathers (2026) Blues‑drenched rock lifers push their Southern swagger into heavier, more instinctive territory, chasing loose, live‑band energy and gritty riffs over quick‑cut Nashville sessions.Def Leppard – On Through the Night (1980) Early Def Leppard catches the band in raw NWOBHM mode, all scrappy dual‑guitar attack and hungry choruses before the big‑budget 80s gloss took over.Ora Cogan – Hard Hearted Woman (2026) Smoky, slow‑burn songs drift between haunted folk, shadowy psych, and dusty country, wrapping breakup scars and political unease in echo‑laden guitar and moody band arrangements. The Notwist – News from Planet Zombie (2026) Long‑running German shapeshifters stitch guitars, electronics, brass, and mallet percussion into anxious, off‑kilter indie pop that stares down a chaotic world with small, stubborn flashes of hope.Follow & Support Follow the show on Instagram, Facebook, Threads, and Bluesky @albumnerds, and support by subscribing, rating, reviewing, and sharing.“It wasn't called ‘heavy metal' when we invented it.” – Dave Davies

This week, Cole and Bryan head straight to Islay for a dark, smoky, sherry-soaked treat — Kilchoman Loch Gorm (2021), an Islay Scotch fully matured in sherry butts and packed with bold flavor. Before diving into the pour, the boys catch up on Bryan's trip to Universal, Cole's recent bourbon finds, and the very real (and very relatable) dream of having your kid be the favorite at daycare and school. They also dig into the background of sherry cask maturation and what makes Islay Scotch so uniquely intense. On Whiskey World News, Bryan covers some wild headlines — from Godzilla-branded PBRs to Whiskey Del Bac shaking things up by removing Frontera from their lineup. And for “What Whiskey Would You Choose?”, Bryan checks the room with a timely question: Did you do Dry January this year? Smoky, sweet, and full of great conversation — pour something good and enjoy the ride.

Every once in a while, a story comes across my desk that stops me cold. Not because it's sensational, but because it's precise, deeply personal, and impossible to dismiss. The account you're about to hear is one of those. It arrived as a letter from a man I'm calling Tom, a seventeen-year park ranger in the Great Smoky Mountains who has spent his life dealing in facts, emergencies, and hard reality—not Bigfoot stories.Tom was called to a remote homestead owned by an eighty-two-year-old woman named Mabel. Something had been raiding her property, tearing apart her barn, stealing dog food and chickens, and—most unsettling of all—unlatching doors and closing them behind itself. Bears don't do that. What Tom found near the coop were sixteen-inch footprints with five toes, unmistakably primate, and impossible by any known standard. What followed changed everything he thought he knew about those mountains. Mabel told him she had lived alongside these creatures her entire life. Her mother, her grandmother, and even her great-grandmother had known about them since settling that hollow in the 1840s. There had always been rules, boundaries, and even communication. But a new presence had arrived—larger, gray-furred, aggressive—and for the first time in eighty years, Mabel was afraid. Tom chose to stay. Over the next two weeks, he documented wood knocks, vocalizations unlike any known animal, tree breaks forming deliberate perimeters, rocks thrown with intent, and images from trail cameras that still haunt him. With help from a trusted wildlife officer, he gathered casts, recordings, and photographs that defy easy explanation. And on the eleventh night, he had an encounter that permanently altered his understanding of reality. This story doesn't end with proof or confrontation. It ends with something far rarer: understanding.Tom wrestled with whether to share this, knowing the cost of speaking out. But he thought of Mabel, of his friend who'd carried his own encounter in silence, and of everyone who's seen something in these woods and been told they imagined it. I believe him. What you're about to hear is exactly as Tom wrote it, in his own words. It's long. It's detailed. And it's one of the most moving accounts I've ever received. So settle in. From an eighty-acre homestead at the edge of the Smoky Mountains, this is the letter from Ranger Tom.

And we had lots of questions: How different was this from the original? How would it compare? And what cocktails could we make with it? Well, Suntory obliged with recipes and flavor to spare. But would we (along with Gabe) actually like anything at all? Press play and find out! As temperatures fluctuate across metro Atlanta, homeowners may notice more pest activity as rodents and insects seek warmth and shelter. Neil Bloyd, director of learning and technical services with Northwest Exterminating, joins host Carol Morgan on the Atlanta Real Estate Forum Radio podcast to discuss how homeowners can proactively prepare their homes for winter pests while planning ahead for spring insect activity. Winter Pest Prevention Starts With Exclusion Rodents are the primary concern during late fall and winter, as mice can squeeze through openings “as small as a dime” and rats through openings “the size of a quarter.” Bloyd encourages homeowners to seal entry points and inspect attics—particularly when retrieving holiday decorations—for signs of droppings. “A lot of pests are attracted to lighting,” Bloyd said. “Keeping the garage door open—those kinds of things are oftentimes overlooked, but they can lead to pest issues.” What winter pests should homeowners look for in the fall? Smoky brown cockroaches tend to surge in the fall and persist through winter, while Joro spiders are strictly outdoor spiders and unlikely to enter homes. While their long-term ecological impact is still being studied, Bloyd notes that Joro spiders can be beneficial predators, particularly of brown marmorated stink bugs, which are harmful to agriculture. Getting Ahead of Spring Insects Looking ahead to spring, managing moisture is one of the most effective preventive strategies. “Replacing old pine straw or mulch is advised, as well as not piling it too high,” Bloyd said. “If you can keep a six-inch gap between the pine straw mulch and the foundation that allows that area to dry out, which makes it less inviting for those pests.” Vegetation management is also critical. Tree limbs and shrubs touching the home act as “easy highways” for ants and other insects to enter the structure. Timing Matters for Sealing and Treatments Homeowners should carefully consider when to seal entry points. Sealing too early can trap overwintering pests—such as ladybugs, stink bugs and box elder bugs—inside wall voids, leading to odors and secondary infestations “I would advise doing that in late spring or even summertime,” Bloyd said, “when they've already vacated but before they return for winter.” Mosquito prevention should begin in February or March to reduce populations before peak season. By summer, populations are often already established, making control much more difficult. Termite Protection and Inspections Termites remain a year-round concern in Georgia. Bloyd recommends annual professional inspections. Termite swarms, most common in spring, indicate an established colony and require timely attention. Northwest Exterminating offers a range of termite protection options, including the Sentricon Colony Elimination System, as well as pretreatment services for new construction in partnership with homebuilders. In this gripping episode, East Tennessee witness Robbie Ferrell shares a lifetime of terrifying Bigfoot encounters stretching from the Smoky Mountain region to the secluded ridges, lake coves, and dense valleys surrounding his home. What begins as a normal day in the woods turns into a life-altering moment when Robbie hears impossible bipedal footsteps and a chilling mind-speak command telling him to leave.Over the years, Robbie experiences multiple close visual sightings, massive footprints near his bedroom window, mysterious gifting behavior, and even a night when a towering figure stands just feet from his workshop. His most shocking encounter occurs while exploring a remote Tennessee valley with researcher Harley Owens, where the two men are surrounded, growled at, and charged by multiple forest beings in an aggressive display that changed Robbie's view of the world forever. If you're fascinated by Sasquatch sightings, mind-speak experiences, Appalachian cryptids, Smoky Mountain mysteries, or real eyewitness accounts, this episode delivers one of the most compelling and emotionally raw Bigfoot testimonies recorded. When the air is thick with wildfire smoke, people are advised to stay home. At Hastings Natural History Preserve in California, Acorn Woodpeckers do the same. These gregarious birds live in family groups and frequently visit their neighbors while foraging. Using tiny radio transmitters, scientists tracked the movements of Acorn Woodpeckers during the summer of 2020 when wildfire smoke blanketed the preserve. On smoky days, woodpeckers spent more of their time at home. And when they did leave their territories, they didn't venture far and visited fewer neighbors than usual. Published in Current Biology in 2023, the findings suggest that harm caused by wildfires go far beyond the blaze itself. As megafires become more common in our changing climate, even more birds could be affected by wildfire smoke in the future.More info and transcript at BirdNote.org.Want more BirdNote? This true story comes from Grass Valley, California—a gold-mining town in the Sierra Nevada foothills—where bedtime meant being watched through a sliding glass door. The witness was barely two when a grown figure with black, sunken eyes and too many teeth stared in, smiling. Seconds before her scream, Smoky the cat shot up, hissing and arched, fixated on that same door. Mom never saw the intruder, but she never forgot the terror—or the animal's reaction. They moved out a few months later. Years later in Alta Sierra, inside her grandparents' brand-new home, a voice whispered from behind a closed closet—calling a name that wasn't hers: “Maylene… come here.” It sounded exactly like her uncle, who lived hundreds of miles away. She shouted, “I'm not Maylene!” and fled. Grandpa found no one. From then on, she and her sister never slept alone—Muffin the Siamese stood nightly guard. Was the first encounter a shadow person? A demonic mimic that steals the voices of the living? Can a new build really keep out a real haunting, or do some things follow? This episode dives into classic paranormal activity—animal alarms, disembodied voice mimicry, and the unnerving idea that kids truly see what adults can't. From the smile in the glass to a closet voice calling a cousin who wasn't there, this is a real haunting that lingers long after the lights go out. #HauntedHouse #ParanormalActivity #ChildhoodHaunting #GhostVoices #ShadowPerson #TrueGhostStory #CreepyEncounters #SpiritsAmongUs #GhostStoriesOnline #ParanormalEvidence Love real ghost stories?
