Long overdue and highly anticipated, I sat down with the CEO of Blockade Games, Marguerite deCourcell (AKA @Coin_artist) to talk about Blockade Games highly anticipated RPG, Neon District. Marguerite is one of -- if not the -- most well known artists in the crypto space. Her art is highly acclaimed, and she rose to the level of stardom shortly after having one of her art pieces (which doubled as a puzzle) finally solved at the height of the ICO mania in 2017 (It took 3 years for someone to crack the puzzle): https://motherboard.vice.com/en_us/article/kzpqzz/heres-the-solution-to-the-3-year-old-dollar50000-bitcoin-puzzle This episode is jam packed with really interesting topics: the relation between crypto and gaming; discussion about art and game design; how earning cryptocurrency through game play will change gaming; and the importance of owning your digital assets and the impact on game developers. Towards the end of the episode, I talk with Marguerite in more detail about Neon District. We talk about the story line, game play, and the difficulties and joys of creating a game that belongs to the players (and creates new opportunities for artist as well). We also get a little cosmic towards the end of the episode, talking about runaway blockchains, the future of AI and art, and the potential dangers and risks with blockchain technology. I could not have been more honored to interview an individual. Marguerite, as you will learn for yourself from listening to the episode, is knowledgable in a breath of topics. She is humble. she is pushing the boundaries of creativity. Her experience and foresight speak for themselves. Anyone who has an interest in digital art, digital collectibles, or cryptocurrency in general will enjoy listening to this episode as much as I enjoyed recording it! This episode of the Blockchain gaming podcast is LONG overdue. Recorded back in August 2018, Axie Infinity was one of the first blockchain games I ever played, and this interview with the company's COO, Aleksander Larsen, was the second interview I ever conducted (you can tell I was still getting my podcast wings underneath me). Axie Infinity is a new universe inhabited by collectible fantasy creatures called Axies. As adorable as they are cute, Axies are powered by the Ethereum blockchain (ETH) in the form of Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs). Collect, play, and battle your Axies, or deck out your Axie's "Terranium" with unique items (also NFTs). In this episode Aleksander and I talk about the history and current state of Axie Infinity (which has progressed immensely from the time of our recording). We also get into some very important topics such as how should users value NFTs, and how should developers be thinking about value creation on behalf of their users. We talk about the unique difficulties of developing a truly decentralized game, and some of the challenges that blockchain gaming developers face in regards to scaling their games from a UI/UX perspective. What I liked most about my conversation with Aleksander is that his passion and competitive spirit that shines through in this interview. As a former competitive gamer, it is clear that Aleksander does not like to lose. I believe this competitive advantage, alongside the awesome team and extreme thoughtfulness the Axie Infinity team has put into developing their game, is exactly what will drive Axie Infinity to the upper echelons of blockchain based games! This episode is very near and dear to my heart. Not only because the Steem Blockchain is one of the most important blockchains in my life, AND Matt Rosen, Co-Founder of Steem Monsters, is a good friend of mine; but also because Kobi Kizarr, Partner at Rooks and Queens, makes a guest appearance (and this was recorded the same day that he and I met). This episode is an absolute MUST LISTEN! Steem Monsters is arguably the most successful blockchain based game out right now. The UI/UX is seamless. The community is amazing and growing every day, and they actually have a fully functioning game that I must admit, is VERY addictive. In this episode Matt, Kobi and I talk about Blockchain, the similarities between gaming and entrepreneurship, how Matt and his partner Agrode have dealt with the growing demand of the game, and how the Steem Blockchain in particular can be utilized RIGHT NOW to build awesome games and digital value for gamers to play, earn, and enjoy. Back in August, I sat down with Bryan Okeke, COO and Co-founder of World of Ether (WOE), to talk about the game, the Ethereum blockchain, and the future of gaming and technology. World of Ether is a decentralized collectible dueling game that lives inside of a browser on the Ethereum Virtual Machine. WOE allows you to collect, breed and battle Ethereals, little monsters inhabiting this new world. The first episode of BGP that I ever recorded comes out as episode #3. It was truly a pleasure to sit down and talk with Bryan World of Ether Beta is out now!!!: https://beta.worldofether.com Follow Bryan on Twitter: twitter.com/@iambryanwho Follow WOE on Twitter: twitter.com/@WorldofEther Join WOE on Telegram: https://t.me/worldofether Follow on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/worldofether/?hl=en As always, today's episode was brought to you by Rooks and Queens: www.rqcollective.io
A conversation with the CEO of Everdragons, Patrick Rieger. Originally recorded September 6, 2018, I decided to make this the second released episode of BGP because the Everdragons game is the perfect onboarding ramp for anyone new to blockchain gaming. The game has a clean and intuitive UI, and the Everdragons team has both a "play to learn" and "play to earn" structure. I believe Everdragons is the best game for newcomers to get up to speed about blockchain as they earn "achievements" through game-play (perfect for the casual gamer). In this episode Patrick and I discuss the intersection between entrepreneurship and gaming, disrupting the traditional gaming business model, and the potential power for social good through blockchain technology.. The first (released) episode of the Blockchain Gaming Podcast. In this episode, our host E sits down to answer the question, WHY? Why did we start this podcast? What is its purpose? And what can we expect going forward? We hope this first episode will help to orient newcomers to the podcast. In this episode E, Chief Creative Officer at Rooks and Queens, introduces himself and explains where the impetus for the podcast came from. The Blockchain Gaming Podcast was established by Rooks and Queens to spread information about new games being built on top of blockchains and the streamers who play them. We do this by inviting high-quality guests to talk about games being built using blockchain technology.
