Ever wondered what happens when you cross a high-fantasy campaign setting, a Louisiana bayou, and a magical eel with moonshine for blood? The RPGBOT crew found out the hard way when they sat down with Drew Foulke, the founder of Norse Foundry and Hexed Publishing, to talk about his new system-agnostic roleplaying world: Titanskeep. It's a world where gods and titans feud like divorced parents with cosmic custody issues, and adventurers are just trying to survive long enough to figure out whether the lich-titan is actually the good guy. Join the RPGBOT Patreon Want to hear episodes like this ad-free and before anyone else? Join the RPGBOT Patreon today. Get early access to recordings, bonus discussions, and the chance to listen live as Tyler, Randall, and Ash interview RPG creators like Drew Foulke, Keith Baker, and more. Your support helps keep the dice rolling (and the Billy Eels wiggling). Show Notes In this episode of the RPGBOT.Podcast, hosts Randall James, Tyler Kamstra, and Ash Ely sit down with Drew Foulke, founder of Norse Foundry and Hexed Publishing, to explore the upcoming Titanskeep campaign setting — a high-fantasy, system-agnostic world designed for Dungeons & Dragons (5e/2024), Pathfinder 2e, and beyond. Titanskeep, set in the living world of Kalidor, pits gods against titans in a divine power struggle that reshapes the world's fate. Players can join guilds, align with deities, or swear loyalty to mighty titans — and every choice changes the ongoing narrative. Built to support convention-based raid events, local game store play, and ongoing modular releases, Titanskeep promises a living campaign ecosystem that evolves through player decisions. Drew discusses Hexed Publishing's approach to system-agnostic design, collaboration with industry legends like Ed Greenwood, Keith Baker, B. Dave Walters, and Deven Rue, and his goal of producing a constantly supported RPG world rather than a one-and-done campaign book. Tyler shares his own experience designing monsters for the Houdan region, a New Orleans-meets-Venice bayou crawling with illusion-magic, giant bugs, and the now-legendary Billy Eel — complete with random mutations and "moonshine in its veins." Throughout the conversation, the hosts and Drew dive into: The challenge of creating a 5e and Pathfinder 2e compatible RPG setting. The use of guild systems, living world events, and player-driven raids. The design philosophy of Norse Foundry: making dice and props that players actually use. The plan for Titanskeep's Kickstarter (October 2026), free Patreon content, and playtesting rewards. The future of Hexed Publishing, from Gazetteers to modular adventure paths, and how community playtesting shapes their development. Key Takeaways System-Agnostic Design: Titanskeep bridges 5e, 2024 D&D, and Pathfinder 2e, with future support for systems like Daggerheart, Savage Worlds, and Fate. High Fantasy, Low Tech: Magic drives Titanskeep's world; technology exists only where titans allow it. Living World Structure: Players influence world events through guilds, deities, and Titan allegiance — shaping global outcomes. Convention Integration: The setting includes a raid-style convention system, where multiple tables impact shared encounters and titanic battles. Collaborative Worldbuilding: Drew enlisted industry veterans like Ed Greenwood, Keith Baker, B. Dave Walters, Jay Foster, Deven Rue, and Crystal Sully. Player Rewards: Free adventures, Patreon-exclusive ancestries, and physical props (like keys, pins, and holy symbols) connect the digital world to your table. The Billy Eel Legacy: A chaotic creature from the Houdan region, proof that player imagination and worldbuilding can get delightfully weird. Ongoing Support: Titanskeep isn't a single book — it's a long-term evolving campaign world with modules, Gazetteers, and live play updates. Community-Driven Playtesting: Players providing feedback can win $50 Norse Foundry gift cards. Kickstarter 2026: The official launch of Titanskeep will include free metal D20s for backers from the Patreon or newsletter list. With the release of Dragon Quest I & II HD 2D, I decided to try out all the previous versions of the game to compare. What I found is an endlessly charming little RPG that I have absolutely fallen in love with. While I've played many Dragon Quest games before (DQ5, DQ8, DQ9, and DQ11), it's the first game that has now made me a fan for life. What a fantastic game and what a great remake to introduce a new generation to this timeless classic! Time Codes: 1. Intro (0:00) 2. The History Of Dragon Quest Remakes (02:51) 3. On this week's Random Encounter, we are looking at sequels both past and present!First up, Zach is here with his thoughts about the Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake. While DQ I could have done with a few fewer "enhancements," it sounds like the new expanded story and features have made DQ II into one of the best Dragon Quest games ever! And next, Zek is here to share his disappointment about the highly anticipated sequel to 2019's The Outer Worlds: The Outer Worlds 2. While it does have a bigger budget and scope, it sounds like it failed to capitalize on the potential of the first game. And in the world of The Outer Worlds, failing to monopolize is a capital offence!Oh, and a quick note to all of our Canadian listeners: We recorded this on Wednesday evening, long before Game 7 of the World Series, so please forgive my bright-eyed optimism and will to live, and take them with the spirit intended at the time!Featuring: Jono Logan, Zach Wilkerson, and Zek Lu; Edited by Jono LoganGet in Touch:RPGFan.comRPGFan ShopEmail us: podcast@rpgfan.comTwitter: @rpgfancomBluesky: @rpgfan.bsky.socialInstagram: @rpgfancomThreads: @rpgfancomFacebook: rpgfancomTwitch: rpgfancomThis Episode's Related Links:Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake ReviewDragon Quest III HD-2D Remake ReviewThe Outer Worlds 2 ReviewThe Outer Worlds Review

In this episode, Jeff Linville — co-founder of Ritual Studios — returns to Game Dev Advice to talk about the journey behind his band-inspired RPG Fretless: The Wrath of Riffson. From starting a studio with college friends to launching worldwide with French publisher Playdigious, Jeff shares the hard-won lessons of taking the leap into full-time indie development. We go into depth on what it really takes to form a studio, ship a first game, and survive the chaos between passion and business reality. * Founding Ritual Studios after meeting at Columbia College Chicago * How Fretless mixes music, RPG, and deck-building mechanics into one ambitious indie game * The moment they quit their jobs to “really do it” and chase a publishing deal * Lessons learned about funding, taxes, lawyers, and running a real company * Building a standout pitch deck and landing a deal with Playdigious in France * Managing bugs, Steam feedback, and localization into seven languages * Outsourcing art and engineering — and why it's harder than it looks * Choosing FMOD over Wwise for advanced Unity audio integration * Why getting your game playable early beats endless siloed prototyping * How Cardio Ex shaped Jeff's music-driven sound design * Thoughts on AI tools in audio, from noise cleanup to creative limits * Recording real medical equipment sounds * Favorite soundtracks: Hyper Light Drifter and Guild Wars 1 * Current go-to games: Pillars of Eternity and Lord of the Rings Online * Reflections on Mortal Kombat, Midway Games, and how player nostalgia keeps art alive * Advice for anyone dreaming of going indie: “Be ready for it — it's a business.”

You're listening to Bardtenders! In this episode of "The Mixing Glass", Lenny Gotter discusses his career as an entrepreneur. From opening a craft distillery, to founding 1985 Games, to launching successful Kickstarter projects - Lenny is a wealth of knowledge for anyone looking to take the next steps in their career. We also take a deeper look into Obojima: Tales from the Tall Grass. Obojima: Tales from the Tall Grass is the first campaign setting to come from 1985 Games. While it's written to work with 5th edition Dungeons & Dragons, a primarily combat focused RPG system, it stands out as being uniquely the contrary. Obojima is what we've coined as “leisure fantasy,” meaning that it's designed to be a slice of life more than the kind of campaign where you wage a bloody war across the realms to punch god. The island of Obojima is a whimsical place inspired by classic anime and adventure video games. It's an idyllic land filled with playful spirits, memorable characters, and vibrant locations. This lo-fi campaign emboldens adventures to be creative, go at their own pace, and take it easy. Parties are encouraged to get to know NPCs, participate in town activities, learn, grow, and explore. One of the biggest draws of Obojima is the brand-new, one-of-a-kind potion brewing system. Featuring over 60 ingredients that can be found throughout the island and can be used to brew 180 unique potions. The potions can be used as utility, combat enhancers, or can even cause hilarious and whimsical effects. The whole in-depth system is fun, easy to learn, and comes with delightful descriptions, location info, and difficulties of procuring for every ingredient and brewable potion. Some ingredients can be a whole adventure in and of themselves to get a hold of! The Witching Hour is upon us in this Halloween special, it's time to pull up a rickety, mouldy stool at the near-empty pub, the Brush, Nose and Bone. In this episode, we're joined by a master of horror, Keith Dozois of USB Escape to discuss all things horror in escape rooms. How does horror affect puzzles? What are our best (and worst) experiences with horror? And how do you make horror good in an escape room? As always, here are your recommendations for this month. Jamie - Ice Nine Kills (band), a metalcore whose recent output has been centred around iconic horror films, and was a big inspiration for Jamie's episode this arc. Mairi - Strange Jigsaws (game by fleb), a short digital puzzle game about solving 50 or so rather strange jigsaws. The prequel (20 Small Mazes) is free, if you want to see what sort of thing you're getting yourself into. Jon - Never Let Me Go (novel by Kazuo Ishiguro), a slow gentle book about a trio of young folks in the British countryside but they attend a very unusual school and are on an unusual life trajectory. Keith - Scarlet Envelope for their fantastic puzzle games (yay), and Curios' Albrecht Manor Letters, an epistolary horror experience through writing letters. Two fantastic Canada-based game creators. Hosts: Mairi Nolan, Jon Saunders, Jamie Gibbs Special Guest: Keith Dozois Editor: Jamie Gibbs All links to our social media profiles and our Patreon programme over at https://linktr.ee/theinfiniteescaperoom TLDR: The final episode in the VHS Nightmare arc has the four hosts chatting about all things horror game, and puzzle game design at a spooky pub. The Infinite Escape Room is a comedy escape room podcast where a group of friends make and solve audio escape rooms for one another. It's one part tabletop RPG, one part escape room with a bit of Monkey Island humour sprinkled over the top.

You know that moment when your players spend ten minutes searching a room, roll a 5, and you sigh before saying, "You find… nothing"? Yeah, we're done with that. In this episode, the RPGBOT crew grabs the Dungeon Master's Guide by the binding and asks the real questions: Why are searches so boring, and why do your players keep looting every chair leg like it's the Ark of the Covenant? It's time to make treasure exciting again — and maybe throw in a cursed spoon or two for good measure. Show Notes In this episode of the RPGBOT.Podcast, the hosts dive into using random treasure and how to make it fun. Not ready for the burden of homebrewing every magical baubel the players find? Still want treasure to feel cool and exciting instead of handing out 2d4 silver pieces? Grab a random treasure table and listen in. They cover: How to curate random treasures so rewards feel tailored, not tacked on. Procedural generation and OSR-style loot tables for DMs who want surprise without chaos. The psychology of reward design—why a potion of healing can feel more exciting than a +1 sword. How Pathfinder 2e's treasure parcel system solves common D&D loot issues. Turning random loot into story hooks that feed back into your worldbuilding. Whether you're running a gritty hexcrawl, a dungeon delve, or a modern urban fantasy, you'll walk away with tools to hoard of treasure hoards and make every treasure feel earned. Key Takeaways Roll less, describe more. Replace meaningless Perception checks with interactive exploration and sensory clues. Random doesn't mean meaningless. Curate your treasure tables around your campaign's themes. Passive Perception is your pacing tool. Use it to keep exploration snappy without robbing players of agency. Economy matters. Gold, consumables, and downtime rewards all affect campaign health. Player engagement > item rarity. Surprise players with creativity, not just loot value. Procedural tools save prep time. Random tables and generators can be incredible when you understand their purpose. Reward discovery, not just dice. Make your players feel clever when they find something hidden — even if you planned it all along. If you've ever caught yourself saying "You find nothing," it's time to level up your DM game. Ludlov begins his investigation in the village of Hübschdorf, joined by his Initiate Tolfmann and Garner, a blind young man who aspires to be a guard... ----more---- ABOUT THE STORY The Hounds of Hübschdorf (formerly called 'Grauwald's Game') is an epic fantasy audiobook by Audio Epics that has been released on Halloween, since it has serious dark fantasy and grimdark vibes. This brand new Witch Hunter Tale is the direct prequel to Witch Hunter. If you like a dark adventure story you'll probably enjoy this grim journey in the original fantasy setting of Hruda, inspired by everything we love: RPG settings like the Old World from Warhammer fantasy, eighties fantasy movies and J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle-earth (amongst others). This first episode is the beginning of a full length audiobook that will bring the epic fantasy adventure from the novel alive. You can find all episodes here on YouTube. PLOT SUMMARY When three Witch Hunters fail to return from a routine investigation, Master Ludlov and Initiate Tolfmann find themselves in a small village near the woods. While investigating the strange disappearance of their Brethren, it becomes obvious the mayor is not so keen on their arrival, and the villagers seem to prefer the distraction of the Graunacht festivities to their nosing around. When their inquest reveals a dark mystery involving evil magic and undead, Ludlov faces the true cause of the threat in a place more disturbing than he could have imagined. WANT TO SUPPORT US?
