Our guest today is Heather Rooks. Heather is a mom, former school board president, and 2026 candidate for Arizona's LD28 House of Representatives, advocating for parental rights, academic excellence, fiscal responsibility, and strong community leadership. You are well known for standing up to power, and doing what is right, even when it comes at great personal and professional cost. You have been serving as the President of the Peoria Unified School District Governing Board up until very recently, when just such crossroads had to be traversed. Tell us, very briefly what happened in your District? You've said your journey into public service began simply as a mom standing up for your child during the masking debates and helping other families find their voice. How did that experience shape who you are today as both a person and a candidate? Critics sometimes claim that parents who became active during COVID were motivated by politics. How do you respond to those who misunderstand your advocacy journey and the heart behind your involvement? You earned the nickname “The Peoria Mom” because of your willingness to show up, ask questions, and advocate for families. What did those early school board meetings teach you about leadership and community engagement? As you campaign for the Arizona House in LD28, what are the top priorities you want to focus on to help strengthen your community and the state as a whole? (Parental Rights and Education, Safety in Our Community, Protect the Border, Defend the 2nd Amendment, Responsible Government, Election Integrity, Special Needs Community, & Affordability) What makes you uniquely qualified to be the AZ State Representative in LD28? How do people follow you and support your campaign? Originally Aired 6.1.26

What does it take to transform over 300 wearable devices' worth of chaos into actionable insights powering healthcare, insurance, and wellness? In this episode of Predictable B2B Success, we sit down with Marco Benitez, a former taekwondo champion turned biomedical engineer and CEO of Rook, and explore the world where fitness, data integration, and enterprise sales collide. With a background spanning pharmaceutical giants like Roche and Novartis and an entrepreneurial journey starting in Mexico's fitness scene, Marco Benitez reveals how a pivot during the pandemic propelled Rook from hardware struggles to the heart of data analytics, connecting streams from Apple Watches, glucose monitors, and more. Curious how Rook slashed slow B2B sales cycles, won enterprise trust, and turned technical complexity into growth? You'll hear why outcome-based pricing beats per-call costs, how radical transparency is their unexpected sales secret, and the frameworks that help them manage decision-maker committees at every stage of adoption. From real-world insights in pharma to the surprising revenue power of podcast guesting, this episode unpacks why building a data business isn't just about technology. It's about people, persistence, and asking the right questions. Tune in for a candid peek behind the tech and discover what most B2B founders are missing. Some areas we explore in this episode include: Pivot from Hardware to Data Integration: Marco Benitez discusses Rook's transition from creating wearables to unifying health data.Wearables in Healthcare & Insurance: Integration challenges and value for healthcare, insurance, and wellness industries.Data Ownership and Privacy: Consent-driven data sharing and user control over personal health information.Team & Leadership Strengths: Emphasis on discipline, process, and a people-centric leadership style.Shortening Enterprise Sales Cycles: Moving from outbound to inbound-driven growth to accelerate B2B sales.Evidence-Based Selling: Leveraging proof and data to persuade technical and C-level buyers.Navigating Multi-Stakeholder Sales: Tailoring sales approaches to different enterprise personas and industries.Problem-Based Selling: Focusing on solving customer problems rather than listing features.Value/Outcome-Based Pricing: Helping clients view pricing in terms of ROI instead of transaction volume.Radical Transparency and Trust: Building trust through transparency with clients and a distributed team culture.

How much does an IVF cycle cost?Seems like a simple question. But as this week's guests explain, it's not.The way most of us account for “an IVF cycle” hides how many individual work orders and variables are actually involved. That lack of clarity can distort cost, efficiency, and strategy. This week on Inside Reproductive Health, Griffin talks with Steve Rooks, co-author of a groundbreaking paper in JARG on activity-based costing in IVF, and Dr. Jason Barritt, Chief Scientific Officer at Kindbody, to unpack what's really behind those numbers.Together, they discuss:– Why “an IVF cycle” isn't a single service but a set of unique work orders– How retrieval volume, ICSI, and PGT each reshape the cost per cycle– The dramatic efficiency differences between labs performing 200 vs. 4,000 cycles per year– The growing impact of managed care on margins– How scalable systems like AURA from Conceivable Life Sciences could expand IVF access

Send us a textThe room glowed with warm orange light, a full house gathered to celebrate five years of Girls Twiddling Knobs and to witness a bold closing chapter. We brought a live panel to the stage to ask a deceptively simple question: are music technology skills truly crucial for women and gender-diverse artists? What followed was honest, funny, and disarmingly practical—stories about safety in studios, DIY learning, pricing your worth, and the power of choosing collaborators who actually listen.Karen Sutton (Oram Awards) mapped the tough terrain of funding and why mentoring fills the gaps that DIY routes can't always bridge. Rooks, aka Jenny Bulcraig (2% Rising), shared how artists are rejecting microaggressions and confusion in sessions in favor of producers who offer clarity, consent, and better results. afromerm, aka Cecilia Morgan, unpacked how growing technical fluency turns doubt into calm agency on stage, even when met with patronising questions. Glade Marie (Saffron) spoke to intuition, community, and using brand gigs to bankroll creative freedom without apology. Together, we explored how tech skills change careers, why safer spaces are non-negotiable, and how to build sustainable models when institutions look away.We don't pretend the landscape is fair. Arts funding is shaky. Industry gatekeepers still overlook what doesn't fit a KPI. But the path forward is clear: learn the tools that center your voice, set boundaries around money and time, and build the rooms where more of us can thrive. As we prepare a short final season—answering why we're closing and what we've learned—we're archiving the work and passing the torch to the many initiatives pushing this movement forward. If you've ever felt othered in a studio, underpaid for your craft, or unsure how to start charging for your expertise, this conversation is a compass. Listen, share, and tell us the boundary you're setting next. And if this resonated, subscribe, leave a review, and send the episode to a friend who needs it.Ready to level up your music making with the powerful art of field recording? Picking up the conversation with scoring, Durant thinks the D (PAUSE) is harder now than in the 90's and we debate if that's true or nah/ Lastly, should rookies be taken under their wing by the veterans on the team and Sen thinks it's Killa's fault that older players get forced out the league! MDJ Script/ Top Stories for October 29th Publish Date: October 29th Commercial: From the BG Ad Group Studio, Welcome to the Marietta Daily Journal Podcast. Today is Wednesday, October 29th and Happy Birthday to Richard Dryfuess I’m Keith Ippolito and here are the stories Cobb is talking about, presented by Times Journal 2025 Smyrna Veterans Day Ceremony MUST Ministries opens clinic, offering affordable medical care Metro Atlanta transit payment system refresh coming soon All of this and more is coming up on the Marietta Daily Journal Podcast, and if you are looking for community news, we encourage you to listen and subscribe! BREAK: INGLES 3 STORY 1: 2025 Smyrna Veterans Day Ceremony The 2025 Smyrna Veterans Day Ceremony kicks off at 11 a.m. on Nov. 11 at the Veterans Memorial on King Street. It’s free—parking too—and open to everyone. If it rains? No problem, they’ll move it to the Smyrna Community Center. This year’s keynote speaker is retired U.S. Air Force 1st Lt. David “Shark” Waldrop, a man with stories that sound straight out of a movie. Back in 1967, flying an F-105 Thunderchief over North Vietnam, Waldrop chased down MiG-17s at MACH 1.3, dodged missiles, and took out enemy fighters with nerves of steel and a 20mm Gatling gun. Waldrop flew 105 combat missions, survived being shot down, and earned three Silver Stars, three Distinguished Flying Crosses, and 12 Air Medals. After the Air Force, he spent 32 years flying for Delta and even flew F-8 Crusaders as a Marine reservist. He’s a Nashville native, now living in Cobb County with his wife, Sue, and their two grown sons. Don’t miss the chance to hear his incredible story. STORY 2: MUST Ministries opens clinic, offering affordable medical care MUST Ministries just took a big step forward: on-site health care. On Oct. 1, the nonprofit opened the MUST Care Clinic, offering affordable—or even free—primary and behavioral health care. “Our ‘why’ is simple,” said MUST CEO Ike Reighard at the ribbon cutting. “We’re here to serve our neighbors in need.” The clinic, staffed by Eastchester Family Services, replaces their mobile medical unit with a permanent space, open three days a week. In just 10 days, they’ve already treated 65 people. MUST raised $1.4 million to open the clinic but needs $600,000 annually to keep it running. The clinic, located at 1260 Cobb Parkway North, is open Monday through Wednesday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. STORY 3: Metro Atlanta transit payment system refresh coming soon Heading downtown for a game or concert? If you’re taking MARTA, get ready for some changes—fare gates are getting a 21st-century upgrade. MARTA announced Monday it’s rolling out new contactless fare equipment. The new gates will be easier to use (no more fumbling with cards), and a smartphone app is on the way, letting riders pay with a mobile wallet. Finally. The “Better Breeze” system will also expand to CobbLinc and Ride Gwinnett soon. But don’t toss your old Breeze card just yet—MARTA says the full switch won’t happen until spring. Fares? Still $2.50. “We’re keeping prices steady, but the system? Long overdue for an upgrade,” said MARTA Interim CEO Jonathan Hunt. Oh, and in a few years, you might not even need a wallet at all. Thanks to a new Georgia law, digital driver’s licenses are coming, though police have until 2027 to get the tech to scan them. We have opportunities for sponsors to get great engagement on these shows. Call 770.799.6810 for more info. We’ll be right back. Break: INGLES 3 STORY 4: KSU associate professor leads effort to strengthen juvenile justice programs through data analysis Every year, hundreds of kids leave Georgia’s juvenile justice system, hoping for a fresh start. But staying on that path? That’s the hard part. Kennesaw State’s Austin Brown is tackling it head-on with the Annual Recidivism Report, funded by a $62,000 grant from the Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice. Brown’s team digs into the data—messy, complicated, real-world data—to figure out what’s working and what’s not. “These aren’t just numbers,” Brown said. “They’re kids. Real kids with real stories.” One big takeaway? The gap between male and female recidivism rates is shrinking, a sign that programs targeting young men are making a difference. For Brown, it’s not just about stats—it’s about second chances. STORY 5: All Saints’ Sunday at First Presbyterian Church of Marietta First Presbyterian Church of Marietta, over on Church Street, is inviting the community to join them for All Saints’ Sunday on Nov. 2 in the Great Hall. All Saints’ Day started as a way to honor early Christian martyrs, but over the centuries, it’s become a time to remember anyone whose faith has shaped our lives. Worship services are at 8:30 and 11 a.m., with gratitude and reflection at the heart of it all. Then, from 5 to 6 p.m., there’s a special concert and remembrance service led by Rev. Joe Evans and the Chancel Choir. Expect music selections from Dolly Parton, John Rutter, and Craig Courtney, plus a chance to add loved ones’ names to a prayer weave—a beautiful symbol of love’s lasting connection. Questions? Reach out to Kelly Dewar at kellydewar@fpcmarietta.org or 770-427-0293. Break: STORY 6: Police: Marietta man killed in shooting involving Smyrna police died of self-inflicted wound A Marietta man who died after a confrontation with Smyrna police last Friday morning was killed by a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to Smyrna Police. Darrick Desawn Rooks, 46, was found dead in a stolen U-Haul truck after a traffic stop near Concord Road and McClinden Avenue. Initially, the GBI reported that a gunshot was fired from the U-Haul, prompting officers to return fire. However, Smyrna police later clarified that Rooks’ fatal injury was self-inflicted, a conclusion confirmed by the Cobb County Medical Examiner. No officers were hurt. The GBI is still investigating, with findings to be reviewed by the Cobb County District Attorney. STORY 7: SNAP benefits to halt Nov. 1 due to government shutdown Starting Nov. 1, SNAP benefits won’t be available if the federal government shutdown drags on, the Georgia Department of Human Services announced Friday. SNAP, which is fully funded by Congress, relies on federal dollars—money that’s now tied up. The USDA told state officials there’s not enough funding to cover November benefits. For now, recipients can still use whatever’s left on their EBT cards, but after Nov. 1? Those cards won’t work. “Plan ahead,” Human Services urged. “Shop for what you need now.” Check balances at connectebt.com or the mobile app. And don’t submit duplicate applications—it won’t speed things up. We’ll have closing comments after this. Break: INGLES 3 Signoff- Thanks again for hanging out with us on today’s Marietta Daily Journal Podcast. Send us a textHave you ever wondered what it was like to visit a ‘moorings' along one of Britain's waterways and to stand and watch and listen as this small world flows to its own daily rhythms? Although every 'mooring' is different, we explore the common thread that unites them. Why not join us for a sunny autumnal Sunday and listen to the day unfold. Journal entry:6th October, Monday“Wind buffets and rocks the boat The mooring lines tighten and then slack. In 2017, fashion model and counsellor-turned gender equality campaigner Karen Dobres, found herself on the board of her local football club Lewes FC, despite never having had an interest in the sport. But she discovered a passion for the women's game and The Rooks made headlines as the first football club ever to pay its men's and women's team players equally. Her new book Pitch Invasion: My Story as a Feminist on a Football Club Board charts her time on the board. Jen caught up with Karen to chat about the book, the thorny topic of equal pay in football, the power of the sport to change hearts, minds and culture, and why football matters. "Going into Tokyo, as long as I get back to those basic things that helped me be successful in the past, I'm going to be just fine. I can focus on the process, get back to running my race, focus on what I need to do each lap in different circumstances and scenarios, have fun, and not put too much pressure on myself." My guest for today's episode is Olympic silver medalist Kenneth Rooks. However, he hasn't quite looked like that this entire season. It left many wondering if last year's Olympic silver medalists had slipped from his form. But back at Hayward Field just a couple weeks ago in his element, Rooks gave the answer. He was calm through the opening kilometers of the U.S. Championship final, unhurried as the laps ticked by. He moved up lap after lap until he was finally leading – and he never gave that lead back.A 59-second last lap sealed his third straight U.S. Championship title in 8:26.56, fending off his training partner Dan Michalski and veteran Bernard Keter. Rooks officially punched his ticket to Worlds and then a couple weeks later helped Michalski get the standard to secure his own berth to the World Championships in Tokyo. It was a vintage Kenneth Rooks race: patient, poised, and relentless when it mattered most. Now the BYU alum returns to the global stage in Tokyo with the big question hanging in the air: can he summon that magic again? We talk about bouncing back from some disappointing performances, how the results make a bit more sense when you look at the bigger picture, managing the weight of expectations, and how he's looking to summon that same grit again in Tokyo.____________Host: Chris Chavez | @chris_j_chavez on InstagramGuest: Kenneth Rooks | @kenneth_rooks on InstagramProduced by: Jasmine Fehr | @jasminefehr on InstagramMentioned in this episode…Watch: 2025 U.S. Championships Men's 3000m steeplechase final____________SUPPORT OUR SPONSORSOLIPOP: Straight out of Bikini Bottom, Olipop's limited edition SpongeBob cans have arrived. Netflix has a Hitchcock series going right now so--gasp--there are actually movies on the world's biggest streamer that are from before 1980! I know, it's hard to believe but because of The Master of Suspense there are even movies from the 1950s and 60s--and they're being promoted on Netflix's landing page like they're a big deal and everything. We couldn't and shouldn't pass this opportunity up, so Cory and Bob talk about Hitchcock's apocalyptic chiller THE BIRDS from 1963. Cory even gives this movie his stoney medal of approval as he talks about meeting the classic film's star Tippi Hedren in Bodega Bay, where the movie was filmed, and talking to her about her bizarre passion project ROAR (1981), a film she made where even more people were mauled by animals during the filming than they were during THE BIRDS. Life goals. We had a couple of guests fall through here, so this is a bit of an emergency episode, so just one movie this time, but as Bob says, "it is epic." Be sure to subscribe so you don't miss our next episode where Philena's partner Sage joins us to have Bob torture them with old HORSE MOVIES with Fred MacMurray in SMOKY (1946) and FRANCIS JOINS THE WACS (1954). Sage really likes horse movies too, but they might not so much after this episode. PS: We might do another mini-episode to tide you over because we aren't recording the horse ep until late, late July, so subscribe so you don't miss that too. Olympic silver medalist Kenneth Rooks shocked the world when he worked his way from the back of the pack to become the second American to medal in the 3,000-meter steeplechase since 1984. But those who recognized Rooks' name know that this isn't the first time he's come from behind. In fact, in 2023, Rooks fell in his third lap at the USA Track and Field Nationals but came back to win the race. Both races were a spectacle—incredible athletic feats—and, on today's episode, we talk with Rooks about what he's learned from them. 2:13- If Ye Are Prepared 7:10- Gospel Allegories in the Race 13:22- Self-Improvement Vs.
