Este fin de semana Estados Unidos e Israel pusieron en marcha la Operación Furia Épica, una ofensiva conjunta consistente en ataques aéreos contra Irán. Los bombardeos han destruido instalaciones militares y han alcanzado también objetivos de altísimo valor político como el parlamento y la sede del poder judicial. El hecho más trascendental hasta el momento es la muerte confirmada del líder supremo, Alí Jamenei, algo que, al menos temporalmente, descabeza al régimen de los ayatolás. Su gobierno respondió de inmediato con ataques sobre Israel y bases estadounidenses en el golfo Pérsico. Calificó la operación como una declaración de guerra total contra el mundo islámico, lo cual no ha sido obstáculo para que los ataques iraníes se hayan extendido a países como los Emiratos Árabes Unidos, Catar o Jordania. Donald Trump ha justificado la operación como un acto de defensa propia tras décadas de hostilidad iraní hacia ellos. A través de un mensaje grabado en vídeo, el presidente acusó al régimen de derramar sangre estadounidense y de oprimir a su propio pueblo. Prometió que esta operación destruirá definitivamente el programa nuclear iraní y su capacidad de financiar milicias terroristas. La Odisea es, junto a la Ilíada, el gran poema épico de la antigüedad clásica. Pero va mucho más allá, es la base de todos los relatos que versan sobre el viaje, la pérdida y el anhelo de volver a casa. La Ilíada, cuyos mitos veíamos en una ContraHistoria hace solo unas semanas, se centra en la furia de Aquiles y el estruendo de la guerra de Troya. La Odisea, también atribuida a Homero, nos sumerge en las consecuencias de esa guerra a través de los ojos de Ulises u Odiseo, el héroe que prefiere el ingenio a la espada. La historia comienza diez años después de la caída de Troya. Nos presenta a un hombre que ha perdido todo excepto su deseo de recuperar su identidad como rey, marido y padre en la pequeña isla de Ítaca. Lo que hace que este relato siga siendo fascinante miles de años después es su estructura fragmentada y muy moderna. La narración no es lineal. Comienza en el mismo nudo de la trama, con el hijo de Ulises, Telémaco, buscando desesperadamente noticias de su padre mientras los pretendientes de su madre devoran su herencia. Esta primera parte nos muestra el vacío que deja la ausencia del héroe. Es entonces cuando el propio Ulises toma la palabra en la corte de los feacios para relatar su propia historia, una historia que se cuenta por desgracias. Aquí el poema se transforma en un viaje prodigioso, una sucesión de encuentros fantásticos que funcionan como metáforas de las debilidades humanas: el olvido provocado por los lotófagos, la fuerza bruta sin inteligencia del cíclope Polifemo, la elección entre dos males que representan Escila y Caribdis o la tentación carnal y mágica de Circe y Calipso. A diferencia de los héroes tradicionales que persiguen la gloria eterna en el campo de batalla, lo que mueve a Ulises es el “nostos", el regreso al hogar. Su viaje por el Mediterráneo es una lucha constante contra el olvido y contra su propia deshumanización. Cada monstruo que enfrenta es un obstáculo que intenta apartarlo de sí mismo. Poseidón, el dios del mar, actúa como la fuerza implacable del destino que castiga su orgullo, mientras que Atenea representa la sabiduría que lo guía. El viaje es físico si, pero sobre todo psicológico. El guerrero asistido por su astucia debe debe aprender que la paciencia y el disfraz son a menudo mucho más efectivos que la espada. El clímax de la obra ocurre cuando el héroe llega finalmente a su patria, la pequeña isla de Ítaca. La omnipresencia de las cámaras en nuestra vida cotidiana, desde los sistemas de vigilancia urbana hasta los teléfonos de cualquier transeúnte, ha transformado radicalmente nuestra percepción de la seguridad. Al navegar por redes sociales, especialmente en plataformas como X, es fácil caer en la trampa de creer que grandes capitales como Madrid o Londres se han convertido en escenarios de caos y violencia constante. Sin embargo, esta sensación de inseguridad permanente es, en gran medida, un espejismo digital alimentado por algoritmos, intereses económicos y agendas políticas. Si analizamos los datos reales frente a la viralidad de los vídeos, la historia es muy distinta. Yo mismo, después tras años grabando cientos de horas en las calles de diversas ciudades españolas europeas, sostiene que nunca se ha topado con un incidente violento. Las estadísticas respaldan esta experiencia: en Londres, las hospitalizaciones por agresiones con arma blanca han caído un 40% en menos de una década. En Madrid, el contraste es aún más revelador; a pesar de haber ganado dos millones de habitantes desde principios de siglo, los homicidios han pasado de un centenar en el año 2001 a solo 33 en 2025. La criminalidad general también ha descendido, aunque su naturaleza ha mutado de los atracos físicos a las estafas invisibles por internet. ¿Por qué entonces sentimos más miedo? Son dos los motores principales: el activismo político, que busca vincular sistemáticamente la delincuencia con la inmigración, y el nuevo modelo de negocio de las redes sociales. Desde que se permite monetizar el contenido por visualizaciones, los vídeos de sucesos se han multiplicado por seis, convirtiendo el pánico en un producto muy rentable. Al final, la mejor forma de combatir esta histeria es recuperar el espacio público.
