John Stoltenberg and Justin Bastian capitalize on nearly 20 years of friendship, along with their individual journeys and experiences to create what we hope to be an entertaining podcast. Tales from mountain peaks to life on the road to reminiscing about various events over the years, combined with a beer/cannabis review every podcast can be expected. Additionally, each episode we dive into a research topic - something that interests one or both of us that we have little knowledge of - and come back the next episode to discuss what we learned. In this episode, John talks about his gnarly snowboarding crash and almost starting his home on Fire. Justin gives some Colorado updates, and reminisces about some cool experiences on the road, and getting to meet one of his inspirations for Van Life. They guys discuss Elon Musk, a tech leader, engineer, and entrepreneur. They get into a number of Mr. Musk's ventures including Tesla, SpaceX, Nerualink, as well as some of his ideas, su a Carbon Tax, and Microwaving Mars to the point where it's inhabitable with a couple of sustained nuclear reactions. The guys review Tread, a crazy documentary about a gentleman in Granby, CO, whom after years of getting pushed around by the homegrown locals and their boys club, decides to push back... with a giant bull dozer reinforced with 30 tons of steel and concrete!
Reefer madness takes over Buds With Beers! John talks about his epic week of snowboarding. Justin drops a guy out of a golf cart. The boys talk about the history of cannabis in the US, the similarities to prohibition, and the milestones in the country's move towards recreationalizing.
John get's torched doing his first cannabis review. Justin talks about the ins and outs of urban farming, and lays out the intricacies of courting a woman while living in a van. The guys talk about MN ties to their new home states, and reminisce about some of the novelties of our great home state, Minnesota.
Big episode this week - first guest! The guys hear stories from Justin's buddy Jon-R, a former roommate, surfer, and current van resident. Justin and Jon-R recall meeting and their time together in San Diego. Jon-R tells his story, and the the circumstances and strokes of luck that led to him and his wife successfully touring in a mini van, and how they're preparing for life on the road with a new baby as they build out their 2nd van. This week, the fellas watched Conversations With a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes on Netflix, and discuss the documentary with supreme intellect and eloquence. John gets a birthday surprise and talks about his birthday weekend plans. Justin recalls a fishing trip with the family and explains why it's bad luck to bring bananas on a boat. A brief discussion on racism in the NBA/NFL. F the Packers.
John spends a romantic Valentine's day weekend shacked up with a stranger, Justin puts up instead of cleaning up, and the boys touch on the tragedy happening in the south right now, specifically Texas, and tie that into a conversation on climate change. 2500 B.C. to 2040 A.D. Global Temperatures
John and Justin discuss Prohibition, Bootlegging, and the lasting effects from alcohol bans at both the state and national level, The Gopher Van drives it's way into conversation, Justin sees some early success with his walking tour business, and John prepares for a romantic Valentine's Day weekend get away with a stranger.
This week, we're introduced to the hell-raiser that is Pumpy, discuss more petty vandalism (shockingly), and Justin continues to expand on his Denver plans. The boys discuss the shocking reality of Avalanches and some basics that go into Avalanche safety. Additionally, Justin convinces John to join his 10 year plan to open a brewery. Side note - beers must have been stronger that we thought, as we forgot to do the actual review at the end. We'll double up next week!
In this collaboration podcast, the boys sync up with their buddy Adam from the "From Y to Z" podcast and shoot the shit. Justin recaps his trip to Denver and their plan for the move. Justin and Adam catch up a bit, and Justin and John talk about the winding roads they've taken in branching out from their Midwest roots.
