Today we have Sarah. She is 49 years old and lives in San Diego, CA. Sarah took her last drink on August 6th, 2025.   This episode is brought to you by: Better Help – 10% off of your first month #sponsored   Pick up your copy of Paul's newest book Dolce Vita. You can get it on Amazon, listen to it on Audible or order it at your favorite bookstore today.   Join us on January 10th for the start of our AF Ukelele Course. This course is sponsored by Kala brand ukelele and if you register, you get a code for 10% off an instrument.   [02:00] Thoughts from Paul:   This is the first podcast of the new year and maybe you are a new listener. Paul wants to cover some basics and let you know what we are about.   Recovery Elevator is about quitting drinking. The goal isn't cutting back, moderation or putting the beast back in the cage. It's full send on zero alcohol consumed.   Recovery Elevator is also about embracing that there is no right or wrong way to ditch the booze, just don't do it alone. No explanation needed her, we get it. What you'll find here and in Café RE is there is no judgment. We all know where you are and have been there ourselves.   Recovery Elevator is the podcast, courses, Dry January, sober travel, merch, Instagram and more.   Café RE is the non-profit alcohol-free community – it's the social app for sober people. We've got 25+ chats each week, Accountability Partner pairings, in-house AA meetings, book club, movie club, etc.   [06:27] Paul introduces Sarah:   Sarah is a painter and lives in San Diego with her partner and two daughters, 17 and 19. For fun, she enjoys surfing with her partner, backpacking with her older daughter and loves living on the beach.   Sarah says she grew up in an idyllic childhood. Her parents drank but not to excess. She recalls that she was a worried child with a tendency towards overthinking and had a addictive personality to many things.   Drinking wasn't part of her story while in school. She was on the cross-country team from seventh grade until she was a sophomore in college. After an injury took her out of the sport, she began to participate in parties more. She quickly recognized that drinking took away some insecurities and inhibitions and enjoyed that aspect but realized she couldn't moderate.  Sarah developed a "take it or leave it" attitude towards alcohol but developed an eating disorder. Food became the replacement for alcohol when it came to self-medicating.   After a divorce, Sarah made a new friend that was going through the same things. She confided in him about her eating disorder and he helped her find treatment for it. While in the process of recovering from the ED, she started using alcohol again and would replace meals with beer. Sarah began asking God, "why are we having me have another problem?" She knew she was meant for better things but was having a hard time stopping the addictions.   Sarah used prayer to try and find the help she was after. She began going to AA, listening to podcasts and working herself to try and gain the tools to decide the addiction wasn't an option anymore. She was able to gain some traction but relapsed after several months of sobriety. In spite of being upset about being back at day one, Sarah learned to just keep showing up for herself and others and stopped beating herself up.   Sarah has removed food and alcohol as options for coping. When she needs to get away, she utilizes the beach and the ocean. She enjoys the studio space with her art to help her get out of her head.   Sarah O'Connor Art   Sarah's Instagram   Recovery Elevator You took the elevator down We gotta take the stairs back up We can do this.     Café RE RE on Instagram Sobriety Tracker iTunes  RE YouTube

Who should be the hero of your story and why… Why clarity is the catalyst for momentum — in your business, your calling, and your life…and how to attain even more clarity. How most people overcomplicate success and why simplifying your message and mission changes everything. Why most marketing is a money pit. Donald's powerful perspective on story — and why seeing your life as a story helps you make better decisions. The difference between being busy vs. being intentional. Why leaders must define the problem clearly before they can create real solutions. How confusion kills growth — and how clarity builds trust, confidence, and action. What it looks like to align your faith, work, and leadership so they reinforce one another instead of compete against one another. Practical ways to create systems that support the life you actually want to live. How does one best 'Live a life worth telling a story about.'  Donald doesn't just talk theory — he gives you real tools and frameworks you can apply immediately to gain focus, reduce stress, and lead with greater confidence and conviction. After decades in conventional practice, Dr. Shanks reinvented how she practices to serve people with chronic, complex illness who were failed by the standard medical system. In this episode, they explore why so many are "walking wounded", how trauma (including trauma from the medical system itself) underlies much chronic illness, and why illness is often the body's intelligent healing response rather than a "broken" malfunction. They dive into COVID as a pandemic of human vulnerability, systemic gaslighting, polarization, and how cultural narratives and dogmatic biomedicine disconnect us from our bodies' wisdom. Highlights: "Illness is beautiful… it's a healing cycle." –   "The only sustainable model of healthcare is one that works itself out of a job."    "The bedrock of human illness and chronic disease is that we live according to these narratives where we don't even trust our bodies anymore."    "Simple, small, and slow, that's my mantra."   Timestamps: 00:02 – Introducing Dr. Karyn Shanks and her 35-year journey 01:37 – From internist to holistic, integrative, and functional medicine 03:40 – "Unbroken" and why your body isn't wrong when it's sick 05:23 – The only sustainable healthcare model: working yourself out of a job 08:22 – COVID as a pandemic of vulnerability, not just a virus 15:41 – The biggest problem today: dogma, righteousness, and reductionism 20:46 – Dr. Shanks' core mission: returning patients to safety and self-trust 30:55 – How she practically creates safety for chronically ill patients 42:32 – Case study: healing begins in a sewing room, not a prescription pad 54:59 – One daily practice: a few moments to listen to what you need   Resources:   Remember to Rate, Review, and Subscribe on iTunes and Follow us on Spotify!   Learn more about Dr. Stanton Hom on:   Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/drstantonhom  Website: https://futuregenerationssd.com/    Podcast Website: https://thefuturegen.com Twitter: https://twitter.com/drstantonhom  LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/stanhomdc  Stay Connected with the Future Generations Podcast:   Instagram:  https://www.instagram.com/futuregenpodcast  Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/futuregenpodcast/    Links:    https://www.thehivemethod.co/ https://www.instagram.com/thehivemethod.co   About Dr. Karyn Shanks KARYN SHANKS MD is a physician, author, and teacher who helps clients recover their lives from chronic complex Illness—a journey she's walked herself. In this encore episode, I'm teaching you one of the most powerful tools I use in my coaching: the thought model. This framework helps you see, with clarity and compassion, how your thoughts create your feelings, actions, and ultimately the results you're living with right now. This isn't about positive thinking or forcing yourself to feel better. It's about awareness — learning how your brain works so you can decide, on purpose, whether the thoughts you're believing are helping you or holding you back. I walk you through real-life examples to show how the same circumstance can lead to very different outcomes depending on the thoughts driving it. When you understand this, you stop living at the effect of other people or situations and start reclaiming your power. You learn how to interrupt old thought patterns, create intentional results, and build a life that feels expansive instead of constricting. In this episode, I cover: Why circumstances don't create results — thoughts do How to identify the thoughts running your life What a daily thought download is and how to use it How to create intentional results instead of repeating old patterns If you're ready to feel more grounded, confident, and in control of your healing, I invite you to reach out and work with me. Military Devotion – Remember the Many Good Things the LORD Has Done for You – January 2, 2026

Watch the Devotion Based on Isaiah 63:7-9 Remember the Many Good Things the LORD Has Done for You Now that we have firmly stepped into a new year I want to ask, how was 2025? There are plenty of after action reviews out there to remind us. Nearly every news organization publishes a “year in review”. Like a military storyboard, many showcase the top pictures of the year or the trending memes from 2025. Even your phone will create a collage of your most memorable moments and people to help you recall this past year. God does something similar. The pictures he uses are the stories and promises he makes in the Bible. He wants to help you remember the good things he has done for you. Listen to the prophet Isaiah: “I will tell of the kindnesses of the LORD, the deeds for which he is to be praised, according to all the Lord has done for us—yes, the many good things he has done for Israel, according to his compassion and many kindnesses” (Isaiah 63:7). First, Isaiah shares why the LORD has done good things for you: he is compassionate and kind. His heart is moved by his love for sinners and he puts that love into action on our behalf. Because he is a kind and loving God Isaiah says, “… he became their Savior” (Isaiah 63:8). We need a Savior God because if we were to look at your year in review through pictures, I am sure there are some you wouldn't want to see. There are certainly pictures you wouldn't want others to see… pictures that show the thoughts you had towards others, words spoken, actions taken, actions you didn't take but should have. Since your kind, loving God is your Savior, he removes those pictures from your storyboard and replaces them with pictures of Jesus' loving words, his kind actions, his charitable thoughts. God wants you to remember the good things he has done for you – how he saved you from your sins and saved you for himself. Isaiah writes, “In his love and mercy he redeemed them.” (Isaiah 63:9) Good thing God did for you is he redeemed you. Jesus paid a price – his very life – to make you his own. You belong to him. Usually when a person is owned by someone else, that's not a good thing. But in this case, it is one of the many good things the LORD has done for you. Listen! “He lifted them up and carried them all the days of old” (Isaiah 63:9). The picture is of a child lifting up her arms saying, “Up! Up!” The Father lifts his child up in his arms. Because you belong to your Father in heaven he has lifted you up and carried you. Look back on the year and see how often the LORD did this for you. So instead of looking ahead to 2026 and wondering what this year will bring, start today by reading your bible every day and remember the many good things the LORD has done for you. Prayer: Eternal God, you are always the same and your years have no end. In your mercy we close another year and begin another. You have done good things for us. For this we humbly say, “Thank you.” Move us to devote our time to your Word this year, so that you may remind us of all the good things you have done and will continue to do for us. We march confidently into the New Year with your compassion and kindness to bless us. Amen. Written and recorded by Rev. We talk about the psychedelic nature of that connection from maidenhood to mamahood, how deepening in connection with Cervix and healing our tissues by bringing life force back into them can open profound pathways in our lives, not only sexually. We talk the expansiveness of the birth continuum, and yin pleasure in postpartum, beyond "reproductive sex," how this can be medicine for mental health in early motherhood. What does it look like when a business partnership starts in childhood and survives real pressure? In this episode of The Proven Entrepreneur Show, host Don Williams sits down with Dean Lyulkin and William Stern, co-founders of Cardiff, a privately held small business lender that has deployed more than $10 billion to Main Street businesses across the United States.Their story begins long before boardrooms and balance sheets. Dean arrived in America as a child refugee from Ukraine. William grew up alongside him in San Diego. They opened a joint bank account as teenagers, stayed friends through school and college, and eventually reunited to build a company that would weather the 2008 financial crisis, the collapse of traditional small business lending, and the economic shock of COVID.This conversation goes beyond numbers. Dean and William talk candidly about how partnerships actually work when opinions collide, why “strategic laziness” is really about delegation, and how leadership roles must evolve over time. They share lessons from scaling Cardiff with technology, navigating existential business crises, and keeping enough cash on hand when everything else feels uncertain. The episode also explores how their definition of success has changed over two decades. What started as ambition and growth has matured into something quieter and harder to protect: peace, freedom, and the ability to choose how and with whom they work.If you're an entrepreneur, founder, or business owner thinking about partnerships, leadership, or building something that lasts, this episode offers lived experience rather than theory.
