This episode wraps up our powerful 3-part Annual Strategic Plan series and it's not just about goals or calendars… it's about your LIFE. In this episode, I invite you to slow down, breathe, take in the essence of this season and really feel this conversation. In Part 3 today, we zoom way out and ask the BIG questions that truly shape who you're becoming as a person and the life & legacy that you're creating. You're going to love it! Here's what to expect in Episode 459: Why this isn't just about having a great year — but about crafting a life that aligns with how God created you to live. The 10 deepest life questions I ask myself — questions around purpose, mission, values, faith, healing, legacy, and IMPACT. How your "Big 5" for Life should drive every decision you're making right now (whether you realize it or not). The difference between running from something vs. running to something — and which one is better. Why you can't build a new future while dragging old wounds, fears, or limiting beliefs into it. How to LET-GO of the past and move into a new future in 2026 and beyond. A powerful challenge to examine your relationship with God, your body, your mind, and your spirit. What it truly means to live a life worth telling a story about — and how your life is already teaching others something extraordinary. Your Tombstone Statement. Why this should inspire you to live your best LIFE NOW!! This episode is meant to be experienced with an open heart, a willingness to be honest with yourself, and a journal in hand (or your Annual Strategic Plan). It's reflective. It's challenging. It's spiritual. It's empowering. And it's designed to help you step into 2026 — and beyond — aligned, intentional, and on-fire. If you're ready to stop drifting, start living even more on purpose, and answer the call on your life, this episode is for YOU. If this episode hits you deep, don't keep it to yourself. Please share Episode 459 on your social media, tag me on IG: @todddurkin, and let me know which of the 10 life questions spoke to you the most. Screenshot it, post it to your stories, or send it to a friend who needs this message right now. Join us with Dr. Bob Sears, a pediatrician of nearly 30 years from Dana Point, CA and author of The Vaccine Book. Once a conventional, CDC‑trusting doctor, Dr. Sears shares how his perspective shifted as he encountered vaccine injuries and dug into the actual data behind risks and benefits. They explore what truly makes a "good pediatrician" today—one who honors informed consent, partners with parents regardless of their vaccine choices, and understands natural and holistic options for children's health. The discussion dives into the recent ACIP move on the hepatitis B shot at birth, how states like California may resist those changes, and the growing legal and constitutional battles around mandates and religious exemptions. Highlights: "My mission is to ensure that parents all over the world have access to objective, truthful, undoctored advice and informed consent on vaccines." "A good pediatrician is one that listens to the parents… I'm here to serve you and help you in your journey, not to tell you what to do." "We're vaccinating everyone for a disease that might infect one in 7 million kids." "Doctors normalize reactions like encephalitis because they're happening so often. It's become expected, and that's terrifying." Episode 228 of Transition Drill Podcast explores identity loss, career-ending injury, and post-service reinvention for Navy Divers and military professionals navigating an unexpected transition. You'll hear Tommy McConnell on the psychological crash that followed his 2018 diving injury, and what it actually took to rebuild purpose, competence, and direction after the uniform came off.Tommy's story begins well before the injury. He walks through his decision to join the Navy, shipping to boot camp in May, 2011, and earning his place in the Navy Diver community. He explains the pride that came with mastering a demanding craft and the quiet confidence built through repetition, competence, and trust in teammates. That foundation carried him into real-world operations, including the high-profile F/A-18 recovery mission in the Persian Gulf, where technical skill and discipline mattered more than recognition. In 2018, everything changed. A career-ending diving injury shut the door on Navy diving and forced a transition he wasn't mentally prepared for. Tommy shares his blunt story of what came next. He describes a bad period after leaving the Navy marked by depression, loss of identity, and a sense that the skills that once defined him no longer had a place. Like many veterans and first responders, he struggled with the silence that follows service, when structure disappears and no one is telling you where you belong next. What makes this conversation valuable is how specific Tommy is about climbing out of that hole. He didn't reinvent himself from scratch. He leveraged what he already knew. Drawing on his dive background, he entered the Unmanned Underwater Vehicle industry, first as a contractor operating UUV systems, then progressing into a role with a San Diego-based company where he now trains and mentors other UUV operators. The work restored competence, responsibility, and a sense of contribution. At the same time, Tommy revisited something he had put on hold while on active duty. He resurrected his clothing brand, 15 Fathoms, not as a hobby but as a deliberate reclaiming of ownership and identity outside the Navy. This episode speaks directly to veterans and first responders facing forced transitions, medical retirements, or identity loss after service. Tommy's experience shows that recovery isn't about finding something entirely new. It's about reconnecting with what you already know, taking responsibility for your next chapter, and rebuilding purpose one decision at a time. The best podcast for military veterans, police officers, firefighters, and first responders preparing for veteran transition and life after service. Helping you plan and implement strategies to prepare for your transition into civilian life. In this week's “Best Of” episode, we present two stories of people having to navigate a new world.Part 1: Sean Bearden has never been interested in education, but when he's incarcerated at the age of 19, he finds a passion for physics. Part 2: When Victoria Manning decides to get a cochlear implant, she fears losing her identity as a deaf person. Sean Bearden is a Ph. D. candidate in Physics at UC San Diego, researching the application and development of memcomputing systems, a novel computing paradigm. Identifying as a nontraditional student, Sean went from dropping out of high school to receiving the National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship and Alfred P. Sloan Fellowship. To alleviate the stress that is inevitably coupled with graduate research, he enjoys training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at the P5 Academy in San Diego. Visit seanbearden.com to learn more. Deaf from the age of four Victoria was raised in a family who instilled a high value on educational achievement and a strong sense of social justice. Victoria gained a bachelor degree in New Zealand (without the support of sign language interpreters) followed by a Masters degree in the United States before returning to New Zealand in the late 1990's. Victoria's deaf identity began in her close relationship with her older deaf brother, both raised orally, and later flourished in the New Zealand Deaf community and the culture-affirming experience of attending a Deaf university (Gallaudet) in the United States. Victoria's first career was in psychology but she soon gravitated to human rights/disability rights work and moved into a series of strategic and policy roles across central government and NGOs. Victoria's life highlights include being the key government advisor on the development of the New Zealand Sign Language Act 2006; representing New Zealand disabled people's voices at the United Nations in Geneva in 2014; and receiving a Queen's Service Award for her services to the deaf and disabled communities in 2015. Most significantly, she appreciates the privileges and joys that come with being a wife and mother of two. In this encore episode, I'm teaching you how to make decisions with clarity, confidence, and self-trust — especially when the stakes feel high and the fear of "getting it wrong" feels paralyzing. If you've ever second-guessed yourself, stayed stuck in indecision, or looked outside yourself for answers you already have, this conversation is for you. I walk you through a simple three-step decision-making process: exploring your options, deciding deliberately, and then committing — again and again — even when your brain wants to panic or pull you backward. I explain why indecision often feels safer to our brains, how to recognize when fear is driving your choices, and how to reconnect with your wise, grounded self so you can move forward with intention. I also share personal examples, including one of the hardest decisions of my life, and how learning to trust myself changed everything. You don't need perfect certainty to decide — you just need self-honesty and the willingness to follow through. Key takeaways: Indecision keeps you stuck, even when it feels safer You can learn to trust your own judgment again Commitment builds confidence over time Cast Not Away Therefore Your Confidence by Jeffrey R. Not many planetary spacecraft get to shower off. But the Cassini spacecraft did – more than once. It flew through plumes of ice and water vapor from Enceladus, a moon of Saturn. The encounters helped scientists confirm that an ocean hides below the moon’s icy crust. Enceladus is a little more than 300 miles in diameter – roughly the distance from Los Angeles to San Diego. Its surface is completely coated with ice. That makes it the most reflective large body in the solar system, so it looks bright white. Much of that ice comes from more than a hundred geysers near the moon’s south pole. They erupt from deep cracks in the crust. They contain water vapor, water ice, hydrogen, grains of salt, and other compounds. Much of this material falls back on the surface. The rest of it escapes into space, where it forms a thin ring around Saturn. The geysers erupt from a global ocean. It’s buried about 20 to 25 miles below the surface, and it could be 10 miles deep or more. Hot, mineral-rich water could flow into the ocean through fissures on its floor. So the ocean appears to offer all the ingredients for life: liquid water, minerals, and a source of heat. That makes Enceladus a high-priority target in the hunt for life beyond Earth. Saturn is near our own moon this evening. It looks like a bright star, shining steadily through the lunar glare. But you need a good-sized telescope to pick out Enceladus. Lee Hacksaw Hamilton shares his “Hacksaw History” highlighting his career from Long Island to Ohio University, upstate New York, Cleveland, Phoenix and San Diego. We discussed Lee's early days doing play-by-play in minor league hockey, minor league baseball, and as a TV journalist. Then it was on to Cleveland to broadcast big time WHL pro hockey, a competitor with the NHL at that time. Then on to Phoenix KTAR where he lit the Valley of Sun on fire. In the late 1980s, San Diego called and invited Lee to be the play-by-play voice of the San Diego Chargers and also to host a sports talk show on XTRA 690. That sports talk show was the very beginning of an innovative all sports talk radio station that featured many names including Jim Rome, Steve Hartman, Chet Forte, Coach John Kentera, Billy Ray Smith, Scott Kaplan, Philly Billy Werndl, Jim Laslavic, Pat Curran and many more. This episode was originally aired as part of the John Riley Project on July 20, 2022. The History of Sports Talk Radio Lee shared his Long Island roots and the start of his radio news/DJ career in his college days on a radio station in Appalachia. After a great run broadcasting pro hockey in Cleveland, he took his talents to the desert to announce Arizona State football and basketball. Hacksaw also hosted a sports talk show on KTAR in Phoenix shocking the locals with critical comments of ASU's football suspension, the Suns getting blown out in the first round of the 1981 NBA playoffs, and the ineptitude of Bowie Kuhn during the 1981 MLB strike. This was the start of the “Best 15 Minutes in Radio.” This was the start of “Putting Topics on the Table.” “React!” Lee was determined to grab his listeners by the throat and hold them for 4 hours of compelling sports talk radio. Hacksaw's reputation in Arizona led to a 1986 phone call from the Noble Broadcast Group in San Diego to be the San Diego Chargers play by play guy and start a sports talk show on the Mighty 690. At the time the station was broadcasting rock n roll and Wolfman Jack. Little did they know that things were going to radically change in the next few years. Lee was the only sports guy in the entire station, and he started with a blank slate. How in the hell was he going to pull this off? He started by creating a 9-hour NFL Sunday broadcast with a 2-hour Countdown to Kickoff pre-game show, the live game, and then a post-game show with caller participation. The Mighty 690 Sports Talk Radio Meanwhile, every afternoon drivetime Hacksaw hosted his talk radio show using many of his provocative techniques to drive listenership. Lee was a sensation bringing sports facts, stats, and opinions in the late 1980s. He was the internet before the internet was a thing. After a brief transition to sports and news talk, the station went 100% sports starting in 1989. The Mighty 690 was the 3rd radio station in America to go all sports, and the first on the west coast. 690 had a “blowtorch signal” that carried Lee's show from “Baja to the Canadian Rockies” As 690 went all sports, many new voices took the microphone to create a wide variety of opinions and styles on sports talk: Jim Rome came on board to start his Scrub Saturday show. He later got the night shift right after Hacksaw's show, working on developing his style, his smack, and his clones. Rome later went on to national fame, but did you know Hacksaw was first offered the national gig prior to Rome but he turned it down. Steve Hartman joins the station and with Lee's recommendation he was paired up with former Monday Night Football producer Chet Forte. Two loudmouth guys: one young, one old, one west coast, one east coast. It was perfect. Steve Mason and John Ireland took on the morning show and later saw their careers take them to new places. Scott Kaplan and Billy Ray Smith joined the station creating a strong show and a loyal listening audience of Great Friends. The Coach John Kentera joins the station sharing his wealth of knowledge of local high school sports, plus offering his commentary on the San Diego pro and collegiate sports teams. San Diego Chargers: I root for Herbert to Win, but Spanos to Lose As a long time voice of the San Diego Chargers play-by-play, and as an NFL junkie, Hacksaw was right at home broadcasting the Chargers every Sunday. We retrace some of the magical moments of the Chargers Super Bowl season including stories about Bobby Ross, Stan Humphries, Stan Brock, Tony Martin, Dennis Gibson, and the playoff run against the Dolphins in Steelers. We reminisce about the good vibes as both the team and the community both came together in a very special way. After the 1997 season The Mighty 690 lost its broadcast rights to the team, breaking promises made to the station and to Lee personally to stay on as the play-by-play guy. Hacksaw was very disappointed with the decision, but he bounced back and was the play-by-play guy for the Seattle Seahawks for 3 seasons. So, how does Hacksaw feel about the Chargers now? He says he wants the kid quarterback Justin Herbert to go 17-0 and the owner Dean Spanos to go 0-17. San Diego State Aztecs and the PAC-12 In the podcast episode we get into the new Snapdragon Stadium, Lee's disappointment that the Soccer City proposal did not win thus guaranteeing an NFL stadium option, and the possibilities of the Aztecs joining the PAC-12. Could this be the start of a new podcast platform for Lee Hacksaw Hamilton? “Agree or disagree?” “I want to talk sports with you!” #Hacksaw #LeeHamilton #Mighty690 #Chargers #sportsmedia #sportstalk #xtra690 #jimrome #chetforte #scottkaplan #billyraysmith #billwerndl #stevehartman #johnkentera #johnlynch Be sure to share this episode with a friend! ☆☆ STAY CONNECTED ☆☆ For more of Hacksaw's Headlines, The Best 15 Minutes, One Man's Opinion, and Hacksaw's Pro Football Notebook: http://www.leehacksawhamilton.com/ SUBSCRIBE on YouTube for more reactions, upcoming shows and more! ► https://www.youtube.com/c/leehacksawhamiltonsports FACEBOOK ➡ https://www.facebook.com/leehacksaw.hamilton.9 TWITTER ➡ https://twitter.com/hacksaw1090 TIKTOK ➡ https://www.tiktok.com/@leehacksawhamilton INSTAGRAM ➡ https://www.instagram.com/leehacksawhamiltonsports/ To get the latest news and information about sports, join Hacksaw's Insider's Group. Watch the Devotion Based on John 1:1-14 The Hidden Glory of God “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us” (John 1:14). The Word—Jesus is the Word. In eternity God spoke, and the world came into being. God spoke and there was light. When the darkness of sin invaded the light, God spoke again and made promises to scatter the darkness. The Word, God from eternity, begotten of the Father, so interconnected with the Father, would take on human flesh. He would be present, not omnipresent as he was before, but confined to space and time. The Word became flesh. Jesus assumed the true nature of a human being and lived among his creatures. Men like John the apostle spent a considerable amount of time with him and were able to examine and listen, to scrutinize and confirm: “Yes, this one is like us! He gets tired and hungry and needs water, he cries and he laughs, and he is truly human.” And yet, John says, “We have seen his glory.” John watched with amazement as the Word revealed the thoughts and attitudes of the hearts of men. He watched the Word walk on water. He watched him heal the sick and raise the dead. The Word himself was subjected to death—they snuffed out the light of life—but he came back from the dead. Although Jesus was God from eternity and embodied the fullness of the deity, and although John said, “We have seen his glory,” the Word hid his glory. The Word became flesh, not in a palace among kings and princes, but in a lowly place where animals ate and slept. The Word became flesh, not to flaunt his power through words that thunder from heaven, but in the quiet whisper of good news: “You are forgiven!” At Christmastime we might be tempted to look for something more from Jesus—some sort of financial miracle to get us out of a money mess, some sort of grace bomb that will restore all our broken relationships, some sort of heart and mind transplant that will remove all these relentless inappropriate thoughts and desires. The Word became flesh and still hides his glory. He hides his grandeur in a gentle word of grace and truth spoken to you: “I forgive you all your sins.” He hides his greatness in simple water where you are reassured: “Yes, you are my child.” He hides in simple bread and wine: “This is my body, this is my blood, given for you for the pardon of all your transgressions.” Grace and truth for you. This Christmas, marvel at the Word made flesh, who hid his glory, who hides his glory even now, so that you might receive the greatest gifts: grace and truth today, tomorrow, and for eternity, where you will behold him in all his glory. Prayer: Lord Jesus, during these days of the Christmas season, reassure us that you became flesh so that you might give us your grace and truth. Reassure those who serve in our nation's military that although they may be far from their loved ones this Christmas, you continue to dwell among your people. Comfort family members and friends who miss their service member with your abiding presence. Renew in us the desire to read, study, and pray on your Word of truth daily so we never forget why you were born—to save us. In your name we pray. Amen. Written and recorded by Rev. From closing dinner conversations that changed his career trajectory to advising on transactions up to half a billion dollars, Channing Hamlet shares proven strategies for selling businesses at premium valuations through proper preparation, understanding sector-specific value drivers, and creative deal structures. In this episode of the DealQuest Podcast, host Corey Kupfer sits down with Channing Hamlet, Managing Director at Objective Investment Banking and Valuation, who has over 30 years of experience advising business owners on management issues, transaction execution, and business valuation. Channing's firm specializes in lower middle market transactions, typically ranging from $10-25 million up to $100-150 million in value. WHAT YOU'LL LEARN: In this episode, you'll discover how buyer expectations have dramatically shifted over 25 years and why preparation requirements for premium valuations have intensified. Channing explains why clean accounting is no longer optional, how financial projections can make or break your valuation, and the three key value drivers beyond revenue and EBITDA. You'll also learn creative deal structures that can save transactions when traditional financing becomes challenging. CHANNING'S JOURNEY: Channing's path into dealmaking started at the family dinner table, where his father frequently hosted business visitors for dinner conversations about deals and transactions. His pivotal moment came while working at Legg Mason doing M&A, when a patriarch from a third-generation family business pulled him aside at a closing dinner and shared how much the work had changed his family's life. That moment hooked him on helping entrepreneurs and family businesses navigate successful exits. KEY INSIGHTS: In the mid-1990s, private equity firms paid four to six times EBITDA. Today, good companies sell for 10 to 14 times EBITDA, but buyers expect sellers to show up polished and prepared. Channing identifies three major value drivers beyond EBITDA. First, understanding what drives value in your specific sector. Second, building predictability through recurring revenue and systematized operations. Third, clearly articulating your differentiation and unique value proposition. Financial projections matter because selling takes approximately nine months, meaning buyers pay based on projected results, not historical performance. A last-minute budget won't stand up to scrutiny. Channing also shares a creative deal structure where seller financing at 10% interest saved a transaction when traditional bank financing fell through. Perfect for business owners considering an exit in the next 3-5 years, M&A advisors working with lower middle market companies, and anyone wanting to understand what truly drives premium valuations.
