HT2483 - Pixels Per Meter I was looking at an astronomy website when it introduced me to a term and concept I'd never heard before. Describing the resolution of an image based on how close the spaceship had come to one of Saturn's orbiting moons, it said that each pixel in the photograph represented five meters worth of subject matter. I've never thought about "pixels per meter" before. I think there is some value in this idea for us terrestrial landscape photographers. A look at the evening sky is a nice way to wrap up your Christmas. It features the Moon, two bright planets, and some of the brighter stars in all the night sky. As twilight drains from the sky, the Moon is well up in the southwest. The Sun lights up more than a quarter of the lunar hemisphere that faces our way, so it’s a fat crescent. It’s waxing toward first quarter, on Saturday. The planet Saturn is to the upper left of the Moon, and looks like a bright star. It shines so brightly for a couple of reasons: It’s the second-largest planet in the solar system – more than nine times the diameter of Earth – and it’s topped by clouds that reflect much of the sunlight that strikes them. The only planet that’s bigger than Saturn is Jupiter, and it climbs into good view, in the east-northeast, by 7 or 7:30. In all the night sky right now, only the Moon outshines it. The “twin” stars of Gemini – Pollux and Castor – stand to Jupiter’s left and upper left. At the same time, the brilliant constellation Orion is off to the upper right of Jupiter. Look for its three-star belt aiming straight up from the horizon, flanked by orange Betelgeuse and blue-white Rigel. Taurus perches well above Orion. It’s marked by its bright orange eye, Aldebaran. And the Dog Star, Sirius, climbs into good view by 8 or 8:30, below Orion’s Belt. It’s the brightest true star in the night sky – a beautiful decoration for Christmas night. The perspective of this week's episode is near the burger steaming station (if you're curious how that operation goes, let Double Dare's Marc Summers walk you through it). And not to worry — you can sleep at this steaming station; no one is worried about what you're doing.And BTW, this isn't sanctioned or intended to be an ad. I'm just a fan and would love to imagine myself within arm's length of those steamy sliders. I have a bit of a White Castle problem: I have the White Castle Pumas, I'm usually a sack of ten and a Cherry Coke (no fries) — if I were hungry enough to add fries at any other fast-food spot, I'm spending that hunger on another sack of ten.And as a programming note: if the White Castle Corporation sends me a cease-and-desist, this description will instead be geared toward the oddly shaped meatloaf burgers my father would make, stuffed with Bac-Os, mushrooms, breadcrumbs, and onions. The patties were so oddly shaped, if they were in orbit they would be confused with Saturn's moon, Hyperion.One of the most notorious of these family “burger nights” ended with us watching a VHS of my mother at work in the cath lab. Had to wait until the end because she said something funny. Aside from the occasional flying streams of blood, it was hella boring.Until then — we are boosting the Castle for free. And I have to think that the oft-trod subject of “Where the hell are they?” adds to their nostalgic appeal — at least for those of us who know there are a bunch in New Jersey, but we're not quite sure where. I swear the White Castles of New Jersey operate in the Doctor Who universe. White Castles only ever appear like, “Surprise *****! I'm in Ledgewood now!” And then maybe it's not there next time because… TARDIS perception filter.And I haven't seen the Dude, Where's My White Castle? movie, so I could just be describing the plot of that. It's a thread that runs through all of us. No matter where we as a species go — like, we could be going into space — we still somehow need to drive through New Jersey first (and hopefully near a food exit with a Castle logo).I was on a road trip with a buddy in '09, and White Castle was the “food exit” around Perth Amboy. I nudged him: “White Castle, man — let's go.”“Nah, man,” he said. “There'll be one up there. Don't worry.” My buddy never liked leaving the highways in NJ for local roads. I suspected the lack of legal left turns spited him somehow.But I countered with a pre-I-told-you-so — like, “If you see a White Castle, even if you're not hungry, you go. It doesn't matter how New Jersey you think that New Jersey town is — you can't count on White Castle being there.”Parsippany burned us, and we ate Burger King or some ****.

Mars has been out of bounds in Sagittarius and connecting with the outer planets, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. And why are we being asked to make adjustments to where we've let society's values about morals & ethics trump those of own soul's higher consciousness?This week's podcast begins with a review of last month's Scorpio New Moon opposite Uranus in Taurus energy during its third quarter waning period, which brought to the surface the need for us to evolve our sense of values to bring them into accordance with the “real” world. The shocking events—particularly those of this past week as this monthly lunar cycle waned—provided stark clarity & greater revelations that in order to evolve (read: survive) we must change our ways of thinking & acting. Or better yet, about how we must review our previous inaction on important topics.That's because we know now how the Mars/Neptune square from December 14 resulted in violence (Mars) based on distorted or fantastical thinking (Neptune.) The proof is evidenced by the horrific shootings December 13 & 14 at Brown University, the terrorist massacre at Sydney's Bondi Beach, Australia, celebration on the first night of Hannukah, & the patricide & matricide murders of Rob & Michele Reiner by a son with mental health issues. It couldn't be clearer that the issues of both gun violence & mental health & addiction—particularly in America—has been too long ignored. And that our society needed these sudden, shockingly horrific events to awaken us to the need for change. This is especially true given that gun violence in schools has gone on so long that two Brown University students had been victims of school shootings before. The secret revealed this past month is that we can no longer ignore these horrific events as a society here in America & do nothing.MARS ENTERED CAPRICORN, SUN SQUARED SATURN=BLOCKAGESSince Mars entered Capricorn December 14/15, depending on your time zone, & the Sun squared Saturn December 16, we've also experienced blockages. President Trump's blockade of sanctioned Venezuelan oil tankers, which in turn led to Venezuelan President Maduro ordering that naval vessels accompany these tankers is just one example.By then we also learned that a terrorist plot planned for New Year's Eve had been thwarted, as “federal authorities announced the arrests of four alleged members of an extremist group who are suspected of planning coordinated bombing attacks on New Year's Eve across Southern California.”We also learned by December 18, that there would be no extension by Congress of the Affordable Care Act (ACE) subsidies before they expire on December 31. House Speaker Mike Johnson effectively blocked that from happening & has ensured that millions will lose their healthcare coverage very, very soon. And, last but not least, there's the release of Trump's chief of staff Susie Wile's interview with Vanity Fair Magazine, which revealed another secret: She is not your typical chief of staff who advises a president & stands firm in their convictions about what's right or wrong. Rather she's an enable who describes Trump as having an “alcoholics personality.” Having grown up with an alcoholic father, Wiles knows one when she sees one.
