Troy of The Secret Commonwealth emailed a sad follow up back in March to the news about his friend who was illegally held in ICE custody: "Marc, thank you so much for sharing the fundraiser for my friend on your new episode. It is with profoundly heavy heart that I have to tell you that my friend died last Sunday of a heart attack. He had been moved to a hospital in Mississippi and apparently suffered two successive attacks. His body is being returned now. To say we are devastated and infuriated would be inadequate to describe our state of being. We had just been sending his lawyers important records and documents that we felt, along with his obvious serious health conditions, had a very good chance of securing his release. We'll never know now if that would have proven to be true, but we just needed him to endure a little while longer, which he ultimately could not. He died one month short of a year since being detained by ICE. I have not yet publicly announced this in an update to our fundraiser because, frankly, it's still too fresh and painful to address. But any proceeds we've made will obviously now be put toward the cost of his funeral service. Sorry to impart this bad news, but I mostly wanted to express my gratitude to you for your kind support on behalf of Pejman's family, my girlfriend (who was his dearest friend in the world and who spearheaded this fight for his freedom) and for me. Unlike the made-for-TV special announcing the final twelve players at this year's Presidents Cup, this Wednesday episode is not a full hour long... but Andy and Brendan do spend most of it reacting to the final rosters and the programming that brought them to us. The two discuss the ridiculousness of a 60-minute show at 5 p.m. on a Tuesday to announce the teams, every player immediately being called "great for the teamroom," and U.S. captain Brandt Snedeker's whispers to Todd Lewis about his selections. Eventually they do get into the picks, most notably Snedeker's selection of Jackson Koivun as the final man on Team USA. Andy and Brendan wonder how Snedeker might've arrived at the decision to take the young star, with some conspiracies being thrown out almost immediately. They debate the merits picking of Koivun (and Jacob Bridgeman) instead of some who did not make the team, including Ryan Gerard, J.J. Spaun, and Ben Griffin. On the International side, Geoff Ogilvy's selections were fairly chalk until a surprise final selection of Christiaan Bezuidenhout, whose wifi (or lack thereof) was a lowlight of the Golf Channel show. PJ can't believe the C-Bez pick and points out that he's ranked lower than assistant captain Taylor Pendrith on basically any list you can find. Andy supposes that the selection was a last-minute rebuttal to the Bridge Man's putter landing a spot on the American side. After plenty of P-Cup talk and a plug for the upcoming SGS Live Show at SPACE, Andy and Brendan discuss a very small Schedule for the Week before getting into some recent news. Colt Knost has found his way back to the forefront of the reinstated amateur debate, but he might've been playing it up on social for those precious, precious impressions. The defendants and their supporters in Nazi Germany were able to rely on an extensive network that had been established in the early 1920s to combat “Judaeo-Bolshevism.” This conspiratorial “Antisemitic International” united German völkisch circles, Italian fascists, Russian monarchists, and French conspiracy theorists. On the other side, the plaintiffs actively sought to expose the “Protocols” as a forgery in the hope that this would counteract their impact. In this lecture, Michael Hagemeister will use the Bern trial as a case study of Jewish legal self-defense in order to shed light on both the “Protocols of the Elders of Zion” and the concerted efforts against the “Antisemitic International” in the 1930s, which have received little attention from historians.   From Phantom Pain to Freedom Walking Paris Streets     What happens when the prosthetic leg you depend on suddenly will not charge-thousands of miles from home? In this episode of the BAWarrior Podcast, I'm sharing the honest story of my first international trip as an amputee. Returning to Paris carried special meaning for me because my previous trip there in 2018 ultimately led to my decision to have an above-knee amputation. This time, I returned stronger, healthier, and determined to experience international travel with my prosthetic leg, but the journey still tested me in ways I never expected. Security line in Charles De Gaulle airport   Waiting at gate to board plane home   Ugh! Got thru gate only to be held back for 15/20 minutes in a long line to board plane. We got further back in line due to my son being chosen, at random, for a full bag check AT the gate!   Before leaving, I prepared for the long flights, airport security, possible swelling, phantom sensations, and everything I would need to care for my skin-fit socket. I packed my medical supplies, prosthetic charger, tools, cleaning products, electrical converters, and surge protector. What I could not anticipate was that plugging my charger into the hotel's electrical system would blow the power-not once, but twice. Although my prosthetic leg was not connected when the electricity failed, my surge protector was burned and blackened. Suddenly, I had no way of knowing whether my charger still worked. After going more than a day without charging my prosthetic knee, I found myself lying awake wondering how I would make it through ten days in France if my leg stopped functioning.   Our updated rig and the first time, in 4 days, that I was finally able to charge my leg!   In that moment, I had never felt more disabled. With help from my prosthetist, my Össur representative, the hotel staff, and an electronics store in Paris, we found a safe European power strip and adapter. After three days without charging, I finally watched the green light come on. The next morning, my prosthetic was at 100 percent—and I felt an overwhelming sense of relief and gratitude.   One time we had some rain, but some of the uneven brick roads we walked on all week long.   Huge day, seeing The Cure at Pagaille Festival in Bordeaux. A TRUE test of my ability to stand, in thick crowds for hours!!!   The trip also taught me important lessons about accessibility outside the United States. ADA standards do not follow us into other countries. I encountered cobblestone streets, restaurant bathrooms located in basements, showers without grab bars, large steps, slippery floors, and roadside toilets without seats. I had to use my balance, towels, creativity, and willingness to adapt. Despite blisters and days ranging from 12,000 to 20,000 steps, I experienced Paris, Disneyland, Bordeaux, and everything this incredible journey offered. International travel as an amputee takes preparation, but it is possible.     Seeing the Mona Lisa (above), but when an attendant saw me she flagged me over and brought us in front of EVERYONE to get up close!
