 Fertility Docs Uncensored is hosted by Dr. Carrie Bedient from the Fertility Center of Las Vegas, Dr. Susan Hudson from Texas Fertility Center, and Dr. Abby Eblen from Nashville Fertility Center. This week, the docs welcome Dr. Nadine Al Kaisi, MD, a reproductive endocrinologist at Eggcellent Fertility, who brings an international perspective to the fertility field. Dr. Al Kaisi has practiced reproductive medicine across Germany, Spain, Belgium, and London, giving her a unique understanding of how fertility care differs around the world. In Germany, for example, preimplantation genetic testing for aneuploidy (PGT-A) is not routinely performed and is used only in specific cases, such as when both partners carry a genetic condition or when sperm morphology is abnormal. Unlike in the US, much of fertility treatment in Germany is covered by insurance, creating a hybrid system that includes both public and private options. German laws impose strict limitations on fertility options outside of IVF. Egg freezing is restricted to married individuals, and same-sex couples are not eligible for treatment. Sperm donation is permitted but tightly regulated, with minimal information about the donor. At age 16, the donor-conceived child is able to contact the donor. Dr. Al Kaisi also explains how clinics in Germany perform natural cycle IVF, freeze embryos at the pronuclear stage, and transfer only one embryo per cycle. Other European countries, such as Spain and the Czech Republic, have more liberal practices—similar to the United States—though surrogacy remains prohibited. Over half the employees at the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) who were there in January are now gone, include 12 of the 17 senior leaders. SAMHSA is in charge of distributing and administering mental health programs around the country and the cuts to both staffing and to the programs the agency serves have meant many programs addressing addiction and suicide prevention being severely hobbled or shutting down altogether. In turn, that means fewer people getting help and more people suffering. O. Rose Broderick, Disability and Healthcare Reporting Fellow at Stat, joins us to explain the cuts, why they may be happening, and the extremely fragile state of these programs in America today. The government shutdown continues, as does the misery for U.S. travelers. At least another 1,600 flights are canceled today, with 2,300 more delays, that's according to Flightaware.com. While some of these issues are weather-related, passengers across the country continue to be inconvenienced as the government shutdown persists. Although some Senate Democrats crossed the aisle late last night to support a tentative plan to fund the government, it remains unclear when TSA agents and air traffic controllers will be paid and when travel will return to normal. The timing couldn't be more critical, as we are almost two weeks away from Thanksgiving and the holiday travel season. And second that as a result, Russia will inevitably become much more aggressive and confrontational and it will escalate its actions both in Ukraine and in Europe. Promising to fix or improve schools is a staple of seemingly every political campaign, but doing so has proven challenging for decades. However, in recent years, there's been a bright spot in Mississippi, particularly in the fourth grade, where students are improving their reading proficiency. A new survey from Orlando Health shows that more than a third of men in the U.S. say they would rather do pretty much anything than talk about their prostate health. Medical experts warn that avoiding discussions with your doctor about prostate health can lead to delayed diagnosis and treatment for a condition that more than half of men over 50 are affected by. Veronique de Rugy critiques the administration's legal argument at the Supreme Court that the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) authorizes the President to impose tariffs. She argues the term "emergency" is used too loosely, defining 50 years of trade deficits as an emergency, potentially granting the President immense, unchecked power to tax. Tariffs are taxes, which Congress should control. De Rugy notes tariffs are already causing damage by raising prices for consumers or forcing companies to cut profits and investment. 1882 NYSE

Alan Tonelson discusses the Supreme Court oral arguments concerning the President's authority to impose tariffs under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA). The administration argues the President can invoke IEEPA due to emergencies like fentanyl and trade deficits. Tonelson finds arguments against including tariffs under IEEPA's regulatory language "jaw-dropping." He stresses that the President must have sole control over declaring foreign policy emergencies, necessary for rapid response.
