On the mountain, Peter, James, and John are given a glimpse of Jesus' unveiled divine glory. They see Him with Moses and Elijah, showing that the Law and the Prophets point to Christ. As the Father commands, "Listen to him," Jesus is revealed as the fulfillment and final Word. This glimpse of divinity is paired with His earthly authority as He heals a demon-possessed boy and provides the temple tax, demonstrating the Son of God is Lord over all things, spiritual and temporal. In this Halloween “snack” episode, Ophira Eisenberg reconnects with horror writer and fellow Brooklyn parent Brooke Mackenzie to dig deeper into her psychic and supernatural experiences. Brooke explains that she once asked “the powers that be” to remove her ability to see ghosts through deep meditation—but kept one lingering gift: premonition dreams that sometimes predict people's deaths, a trait she says runs in her family. She recalls her one-year-old daughter giggling at an empty rocking chair and saying “Papa,” suggesting that the connection might continue in the next generation. The two trade stories about Halloween costumes and stolen stoop decorations before diving into Brooke's past involvement with Wicca, her vast crystal collection (so large her husband gives her a “quota”), and how she uses crystals for rituals—including fertility and protection rituals aided by quartz, selenite, and Herkimer diamonds. Brooke describes working as a tutor, balancing motherhood with writing horror, and how she still fears demons, exorcisms, and her own mortality. She swears she'll never touch a Ouija board again after one terrifying encounter that ended with a shop owner insisting it be stored in a freezer. The conversation wraps on a lighter note about pillowcase trick-or-treating and Brooke's hopes to publish children's books someday—just maybe with a crystal or two close by for good juju.
Peter makes the great confession: "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." Jesus declares this truth is a divine revelation, and this confession is the rock upon which His Church is built. But when Peter rejects a suffering Messiah, Jesus' rebuke—"Get behind me, Satan!"—teaches that a theology of glory without the cross is a satanic temptation. The true Christ is the crucified Christ, and to follow Him is to take up one's own cross. The Rev. Bryan Spang, pastor of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in State College, PA, joins the Rev. Jesus shows His divine compassion again when he heals the multitudes and feeds four thousand. Despite these clear signs of Jesus being the Christ, the Pharisees demand another, revealing their hardened unbelief. Jesus promises no sign but the "sign of Jonah,” which is a prophecy of His death and resurrection. In this Halloween-timed episode, Ophira Eisenberg talks with Brooklyn-based horror author and poet Brooke Mackenzie, who balances writing ghost stories with parenting her five-year-old daughter. Brooke describes her haunted Minnesota childhood home—once owned by a member of the Pillsbury family—complete with a female ghost in the basement and a handsy spirit in an old pony shed. She recounts asking “the powers that be” in college to take away her ability to see ghosts after too many eerie encounters at Sarah Lawrence. Ophira and Brooke trade jokes about “geriatric motherhood,” with Brooke explaining how she had her daughter at 40 after infertility struggles and found calm in later-in-life parenting. She also shares how the pandemic sent her family from Manhattan to a haunted mountain town in Northern California, where she wrote much of her horror fiction. Brooke reveals that her story “The Elevator Game”—inspired by the real-life Eliza Lam mystery—launched her career at 39 and led to her collections Ghost Games and The Scary ABC Diary. They discuss the rise of women in horror, how horror offers catharsis and justice, and how motherhood made her writing darker and more body-focused (“once you've had every fluid on you…”). The episode ends with Ophira laughing about diaper blowout memories while Brooke jokes that she now spends more time on beta-fish forums than parenting.

Jesus confronts the Pharisees' traditions, showing they use them to disobey God's commands. He teaches that true defilement comes from sin within the heart, not from external things. Immediately after, a Canaanite woman, a Gentile with no claim to God's promises, abandons any merit of her own and clings solely to Christ's mercy. Her persistent faith perfectly illustrates the Gospel: salvation comes not to the worthy, but to those who cast themselves on the grace of Christ alone. The Rev.

A stark contrast is drawn between two kings. Herod, a slave to his lust and fear, murders John the Baptist. The true King, Jesus, reveals His divine compassion and power. He provides for the lost sheep of Israel and the crowds that followed him in the feeding of the five thousand, a foretaste of the Heavenly Banquet to come. Jesus then demonstrates His absolute authority over creation by walking on the sea and rescuing Peter from his doubt. Jesus not only commands us to “fear not,” but provides us every reason to obey through his love and compassion. The Rev. Brad kicks off a solo episode (recorded before a trip to Germany) and turns the mic to rangeland scientist Anna Clare for a deep dive into “the solar savanna”—treating solar arrays on grasslands as functioning grazing ecosystems. She shares early results from Silicon Ranch's Cattle Tracker research on integrating cattle (not just sheep) with PV systems. Brad follows with University of Minnesota's on-farm demos: panel heights that work for cattle, heat-stress reductions, forage performance under panels, and a mobile, battery-equipped shade/solar rig. If you're curious how and when cattle can safely graze under solar, this one's packed with data and practical design tips.Key takeawaysSolar as savanna: Think of arrays as shade “canopies” over grasslands—manage them as grazing systems with soils, roots, pollinators, and large herbivores in mind.Cattle can work under PV: Moving from sheep to cattle is feasible when arrays are designed with animal size/behavior in mind.Panel height matters: In controlled mockups, animal interactions dropped 43% from 2.0→2.5 m and 59% at 3.0 m. Cattle never touched panels; most curiosity was with dampers—a design hotspot.Ecosystem wins: Under-panel zones showed higher soil moisture and lower soil temperatures, favoring cool-season grasses and legumes; regrowth dynamics can improve after grazing passes.Animal welfare benefits: UMN trials showed lower respiration rates and 0.5–1.0 °F lower internal body temperatures during hot afternoons for shaded cows—meaningfully less heat stress.Forage production holds up (or improves): Certain mixes (e.g., orchardgrass, meadow fescue; grass-legume combos) produced equal or greater biomass under panels with no drop in nutritive value.Design for cattle, not fear: After a decade of on-farm experience, Brad's team hasn't seen cattle damage panels; people and tractors are more likely risks than cows.Practical layouts: Keep inverters outside fences, route wiring high/inside racking, and allow equipment lanes; rotational grazing and (potentially) virtual fencing fit well.Innovation on wheels: A 20 kW mobile bifacial shade rig with onboard batteries can power irrigation, fencing, and even an electric tractor—bringing agrivoltaics to wherever cattle need relief.Research & projects mentionedSilicon Ranch – Cattle Tracker: multi-year cattle-PV integration study; Phase 2 is a 4.5 MW Tennessee “outdoor test lab” comparing array vs. open pasture for behavior, space use, health/performance, plus mirrored ecosystem monitoring.Comprehensive literature review (AGU Earth's Future – in press): Maps intersections among livestock–solar–land, identifies six research gaps (integration, layered ecology, modeling, best practices, social dimensions, collaborative science).UMN Morris agrivoltaics demos: Fixed-tilt arrays at 6–8 ft (1.8–2.4 m) leading edge; 0.5 MW pasture array powering campus; vertical bifacial and crop-under-PV pilots coming; EV fast charger powered by cow-shade solar.Who it's forDevelopers, ranchers, extension pros, and policy folks exploring dual-use solar that keeps grasslands working and cattle comfortable.Questions, comments, scathing rebuttals? -> themoosroom@umn.edu or call 612-624-3610 and leave us a message!Linkedin -> The Moos RoomTwitter -> @UMNmoosroom and @UMNFarmSafetyFacebook -> @UMNDairyYouTube -> UMN Beef and Dairy and UMN Farm Safety and HealthInstagram -> @UMNWCROCDairyExtension WebsiteAgriAmerica Podcast Directory

The critical analysis Solomon endorses in the book of Proverbs would ask: “faithfulness to what?”. No so-called ‘hero' will pass the true test of greatness if his efforts were dedicated in service of idols. Family, honor, patriotism, philanthropy, public service, courage, scientific genius, etc. are not virtues ends unto themselves but are sanctified only in the service of righteousness & the glory of God. Those who dedicate their lives in sacrificial faithfulness to anything less than this are not heroes in truth. Don't be deceived Solomon adjures the student of wisdom —the object of our devotion separates the wise from the fool, the righteous from the wicked, the good man from the sinner.

Message given by guest speaker Kyle Jackson on October 26, 2025 at ElmCreek Community Church in Maple Grove, MN. Scripture: Mark 6:45-56
The Kingdom of Heaven is like a treasure of infinite worth. Jesus' parables reveal the supreme value of Christ and His Gospel; He is the treasure who gave up everything to purchase the field (the world) for the sake of His people. When Jesus offers up this priceless treasure, he is rejected in His own hometown, a stark reminder that the saving power of the Gospel is lost where unbelief holds sway. The Rev. Steven Theiss, pastor of Immanuel Lutheran Church in New Wells, MO, joins the Rev. Dr. Phil Booe to study Matthew 13:44-58. The Gospel of Matthew bridges Old and New Testaments, presenting Jesus as the promised Messiah who fulfills the Law we could never keep and establishes His kingdom of grace for all nations. Written by a tax collector transformed by pure grace, Matthew reveals Christ as the true Son of David and Emmanuel (God with us) who challenges us with the crushing demands of the Law in His Sermon on the Mount to the sweet comfort of the Gospel in His death and resurrection. From royal genealogy to glorious resurrection, this verse-by-verse study proclaims the One who conquered sin, death, and the devil for us, now delivering forgiveness, life, and salvation through Word and Sacrament as He remains with His church always, even to the end of the age. Thy Strong Word, hosted by Rev. Dr. Phil Booe, pastor of St. John Lutheran Church of Luverne, MN, reveals the light of our salvation in Christ through study of God's Word, breaking our darkness with His redeeming light. Each weekday, two pastors fix our eyes on Jesus by considering Holy Scripture, verse by verse, in order to be strengthened in the Word and be equipped to faithfully serve in our daily vocations. Actor and comedian Mary Lynn Rajskub joins Ophira Eisenberg to talk about raising her now 18-year-old son while continuing to perform stand-up, act, and write. She recalls being visibly pregnant during her last season on 24, with body doubles and stunts ruined when her belly showed up in the shot. She describes her early comedy experiments with Girls' Guitar Club—two stand-ups who couldn't play guitar but turned awkward banter into an act—and later channeled pregnancy and motherhood into her one-woman show Mary Lynn Spreads Her Legs, notorious for a review praising its “mean-spirited” riffs on infanticide and colicky babies. Rajskub laughs about her son's indifference to her career (“he's never been to a show”) and his generation's distance from the service-industry jobs she once held, like mixing ranch dressing at Denny's or lining up greeting cards as a “Hallmark girl.” She admits that leaving home for late-night sets always felt like dragging herself away from the reward of parental wind-down time, and she jokes about young comics inviting her to midnight podcasts when her bedtime is closer to 8:30. The episode ends with Rajskub savoring the absurd “power” she once felt being trusted to stir ranch dressing at Denny's—a comic foreshadowing of chasing a laugh on stage.
