MD Anderson Children’s Cancer Hospital has opened its newly renovated and expanded space for children and young adults with cancer. All pediatric treatment services are now located on one floor with added amenities such as a family room, kitchen, teen room, resource center, play park, classroom and sleep rooms. The new space was designed with input from patients, families and staff.
This video identifies the scope of pediatric chaplaincy beginning with the building of trust with a child all the way through a young patient’s treatment. The chaplain assigned to the MD Anderson Children’s Cancer Hospital visits with patients and their families, provides comfort, hope and a spiritual presence respectful of the family’s faith tradition, participates in memorial services, serves on committees, attends medical team meetings and is always available to be with a family at the end of life.
MD Anderson Children’s Cancer Hospital patients recently traded places with their doctors for a day using teddy bears as their patients. Each child learned more about their own treatments as they guided their patient-bear through some of the same tests, services and treatments they receive at MD Anderson. More than 20 departments participated in the special clinic.
