What microphone should I buy for my podcast?

Play Episode Listen Later Oct 31, 2020 5:49

The good news is it's not hard to capture great sound for your podcast outside of a professional recording studio. All you need is: a dynamic microphone (which will reduce background noise significantly), a small, soft, quiet space to record (a closet, your car, in a blanket fort-- really), and proper microphone technique (check your microphone's instructions for appropriate use). The great thing is the environment and technique are practically cost-free solutions.  If someone had pointed that out to me in 2014, it would have saved me a lot of time, money, and frustration Now is the time to start a podcast. Stay tuned for Infostack's Podcast to Profit Bundle for $49 where you can get everything from a how-to podcast to a website and podcasting hosting.  Used Gear Reverb.com USB Samsom Q2U (Amazon) ATR2100 (Amazon)  XLR  ShureSM58 (Amazon) USB Audio Interface Scarlett 2i2(Amazon. for 2 microphones) Scarlett Solo (Amazon. for 1 microphone)   Connect with me... How often should I post on social media for my podcast?

How do you inspire your potential listeners to choose YOU over your competitors? One way is with regular, consistent, engaging content to build and keep momentum in audience growth.  (and if you want to know why momentum matters, check out this interview from #WYTOT pod with author of Maximum Momentum, political operative, and the founder and CEO of DecodeM, Mike Berland) Don't just say "hey NEW EPISODE!" and disappear. Feed your audience and give them an alternate way to be a part of your audience without necessarily listening to a whole episode. People are busy, so giving them options to get to know you, your conversation and your show is key.  Follow me on Instagram for more great tips (and some silliness) Or you can visit my website for all the socials, articles, resources, courses, podcasts and more!  You can also book a FREE Podcast Audit HERE.

Always capture the best quality recording you can for your podcast. But when it comes to interviewing guests, it can be extremely difficult to get them to plug-in a dynamic USB microphone or use a USB headset. So often times the easiest thing is for them to use their laptop’s but in mic. Actually, the easiest thing for a podcast guest to do is use their phone to call in to an app like zoom or Skype. The best part about this is our ears are used to recognizing phone calls and we don’t complain about the audio quality.
