When Patrick Cross bought a Flying V guitar that survived a fatal bar fire in Michigan, he had no idea the instrument harbored an evil entity that would cost him his job, his health, and nearly his sanity.IN THIS EPISODE: Just because a guitar is the only thing to survive a building fire doesn't mean that guitar is lucky. In fact, it might be the exact opposite, as Patrick Cross found out when he bought the guitar in 1995. (Patrick Cross and His Devil Guitar) *** Air Force veteran Charles Moody drove out into the desert to watch a meteor shower – but he found a lot more than he bargained for when he was abducted by extraterrestrials. (The Alien Abduction of Sergeant Moody) *** We'll fire up the flux capacitor and take a look at the past, present, and possible future of time machines. (A Brief History of Time Machines) *** Nearly every place has its legends; stories that have passed from person to person, generation to generation, down to the present day. Some are based on facts and are further embroidered in the telling, while others seem to have come from next to nothing at all. Such is the mysterious case of the Witch of Scrapf*gg*t Green. (The Witch of Scrapf*gg*t Green) *** Some say the story itself is true. Others say it is pure science fiction. Either way, just the circumstances behind the story of “The Shaver Mystery” are enough to scare the goosebumps out of you! If you've ever felt like podcasting is equal parts joy and chaos, you're in good company. In this episode, I sit down with Darrell Darnell, the founder of Pro Podcast Solutions, to talk about what it actually takes to build a show that lasts. Darrell's been producing podcasts since the early days, and he's seen just about every possible mistake, burnout cycle, and “why am I doing this?” moment creators run into. What I love about Darrell is that he's built his entire career around making podcasting sustainable, not stressful. From fan-driven shows like Fringe and Stranger Things to deeply personal storytelling with Stuff I Learned Yesterday, he's developed systems that keep creators focused, consistent, and connected to their audience without running themselves into the ground. We get into the heart of it all: community, pillars, workflow, and why quality matters more than perfection. Whether you're brand new or you've been at this for years, this conversation is a reminder that podcasting doesn't have to take over your life. It really can be something you enjoy week after week… as long as you approach it with the right mindset and a solid foundation.Key TakeawaysConsistency always wins. Your publishing rhythm trains your audience. Stick to a schedule they can rely on.Community keeps podcasts alive. Darrell built long-lasting shows by treating listeners like real people, not download numbers.Content pillars prevent burnout. Defining 3–4 themes gives you endless episode ideas and simplifies planning. You don't need a “perfect” launch. Disneyland had a disastrous opening day and turned out fine. Same idea here.Let your audience guide your format. Episode length, structure, and segment ideas become obvious when you actually ask (and watch your analytics).Fan-based shows live and die with the source material. If you're podcasting about a TV series or franchise, expect to shift gears when the show ends.Your unique angle matters. Darrell's early success came from having a dedicated science expert on a sci-fi podcast—find the thing that sets you apart.Your purpose powers longevity. When things get tough, the “why” behind your show is what keeps you going.Great production doesn't have to be complicated. A few smart tools can elevate your audio without requiring hours of editing.ResourcesPro Podcast Solutions – Foundation Toolkit: https://propodcastsolutions.com/creator (Darrell's free planning guide + spreadsheet he mentioned during the episode)Pro Podcast Solutions: https://propodcastsolutions.comDarrell's Podcasts on Golden Spiral Media: https://goldenspiralmedia.com (It's a great time to binge The Stranger Things Podcast before season 5 comes out!)----------------------Ecamm - Your go-to solution for crafting outstanding live shows and podcasts. The Untold Story of Amboog-a-Lard and the Making of “A New Hope” with Chad Steinhart, Dan Fontana, & John Somerlade //////// One of our most anticipated episodes is finally here! For the first time, three-quarters of the “A New Hope” Amboog-a-Lard lineup, Chad Steinhart (keyboards), Dan Fontana (guitar/vocals), and John Somerlade (drums), join the podcast to share the full story of the band. From their late 1980s roots in Coral Springs, FL, and influences like KISS, Iron Maiden, Metallica, and Anthrax, to rehearsal spaces and local venues including Club Soda (Coral Springs), The Treehouse and The Button South (Hallandale), Reunion Room and The Edge (Ft. Lauderdale), and Washington Square and the Cameo Theater (Miami Beach), as well as guidance from TCA Management (John Tovar and Frank Callari), this episode covers it all. The band talks about the origins of their name, lineup changes, album artwork, the making of their 1993 album “A New Hope” (recorded at Studio 13 in Deerfield with Jeremy Staska, mastered at Criteria Studios in Miami, and recently remastered at TyFy Studios in Orlando by Dan Fontana), several close calls being signed by major labels like Atlantic, Capitol, and Island Records, and stories from opening for Overkill, Exodus, Anthrax, Corrosion of Conformity, and punk legends The Ramones, as well as sharing the stage with countless local bands of the era including Malevolent Creation, Raped Ape, Cynic, Saigon Kick, Marilyn Manson, and The Itch, and their relationship with Glenn Richards, South Florida radio DJ on 103.5 WSHE.The band also shares stories about Jeordie White, the band's bassist who later joined Marilyn Manson (though he does not appear in this episode), along with untold anecdotes from their early days. For anyone who experienced the South Florida metal and alternative scene of the late 1980s and early 1990s, this episode is pure nostalgia. For those discovering it now, it is packed with rich history and behind-the-scenes stories never shared before.

EPISODE DESCRIPTIONBefore she was raising millions to preserve fertility for cancer patients, Tracy Weiss was filming reenactments in her apartment for the Maury Povich Show using her grandmother's china. Her origin story includes Jerry Springer, cervical cancer, and a full-body allergic reaction to bullshit. Now, she's Executive Director of The Chick Mission, where she weaponizes sarcasm, spreadsheets, and the rage of every woman who's ever been told “you're fine” while actively bleeding out in a one-stall office bathroom. We get into all of it. The diagnosis. The misdiagnosis. The second opinion that saved her life. Why fertility preservation is still a luxury item. Why half of oncologists still don't mention it. And what it takes to turn permission to be pissed into a platform that actually pays for women's futures. This episode is blunt, hilarious, and very Jewish. There's chopped liver, Carrie Bradshaw slander, and more than one “fuck you” to the status quo. You've been warned.RELATED LINKSThe Chick MissionTracy Weiss on LinkedInFertility Preservation Interview (Dr. Aimee Podcast)Tracy's Story in Authority MagazineNBC DFW FeatureStork'd Podcast EpisodeNuDetroit ProfileChick Mission 2024 Gala RecapFEEDBACKLike this episode? Whether you're in the midst of a major life transition or considering a fresh start - I want to remind you that the messy middle that comes along with this kind of shift, requires a lot of self-kindness. One great way to begin to invite in more kindness with yourself is to be curious. To allow for questions like "what if" to exist and begin to lead the way. I talk about taking bold action in this episode - but I want to think of this as "curious & creative action". What answers are coming up when you ask yourself "what if?" Then what is one small action you can take to follow that curiosity that feels fun and creative?I share with you the time in my life where I was discovering this for the first time and how my "what if" turned into the discovery of new interests and the exploration of developing characters and a story for these characters to come to life within. I got curious and then I took action by getting creative in ways that were new to me.That led to new possibilities that would have not presented themselves if I wasn't already on this path of permission. I truly believe that possibility follows permission. Before I knew it - my life was evolving and a new chapter was emerging. What comes up when you ask "what if"?Then what is a bold action or in other words a "new curious and creative action" that you might take to explore your "what if"?In this episode, you'll learn: How being curious, letting go and taking small creative action can lead you towards fulfillmentThe power of "what if"How permission and curiosity are an act of self-kindnessHow you have the power to change your lifeWhy it's never too late to start overLinks:Activate Your Goddess Era with Podcasting Watch this Episode on YoutubeMore episodes on this topic:BEGIN SERIES: How to Connect To Your Inner Compass (starts around minute 5:40)Ep.37 - Self-Kindness: Guided MeditationEp.176 - Are You Pivoting Your Career? In this episode of Clover, I get to catch up with my longtime friend and powerhouse media executive, Tracy Kaplan, and her “hodgepodge” career that turned out to be a masterclass in building a bold, non-linear path in media, tech, and podcasts.Tracy walks us through her journey from WGBH and ABC News to CBS Interactive, SnappyTV, Twitter, TuneIn, Patreon, Tenderfoot TV, and now Courier Newsroom, all while launching her own company, Small But Mighty Media, and creating The 10 News, an award-winning news podcast for kids. Along the way, she shares how she spots the real inflection points in media (from mobile video to podcast subscriptions to now AI), builds durable partnerships with platforms like Apple and Spotify, and refuses to let imposter syndrome keep her from jumping into the next big thing. We also dig into the business side: subscription models, monetization beyond ads, what actually grows a podcast audience, and how to lead high-pressure teams through constant change without burning everyone out.In this episode, you'll learn:How to turn a “hodgepodge” career into a strategic advantage and deliberately collect the skills and experiences you're missing instead of chasing a straight line. How to spot the next wave in media and tech by staying curious, observing real people's behavior (hello, commuters watching video in Japan), and forcing yourself to experiment with new tools like AI before you feel “ready.”Practical ways to move into a new lane—before you're an expert, including how Tracy taps her network, asks smart questions, and leverages subject-matter experts to fill her own gaps.A clear breakdown of podcast monetization today—ads, Apple/Spotify subscription channels, Patreon-style membership, and even donations and fiscal sponsorship—and how to think about diversifying your revenue so you're not at the mercy of one market. How Tracy built and scaled The 10 News for kids, including the real origin story (NPR in the school pickup line + political ads on YouTube) and the tactics she used to secure high-caliber guests like Dr. Fauci. What makes a partnership last in a fickle industry, from being radically responsive and direct, to making every deal a “win-win” instead of a zero-sum transaction.Tracy's leadership philosophy in high-pressure environments—how she pushes her team to grow while still rolling up her sleeves, taking on grunt work when needed, and making sure no one is left to fail alone.Hard-won career advice for women in media and podcasting, including why allies inside and outside your company matter, how to recognize when it's time to leave a role you once loved, and why tearing other women down is a long-term losing strategy. Her big blue-sky vision for helping kids and families better understand the world—and why she dreams of a “domestic Peace Corps” style program that gets people outside their bubbles and into each other's communities. If you've ever worried that your career looks “messy” on paper, or felt behind on the latest shifts in media, this conversation will give you both a roadmap and a serious permission slip to build something beautifully non-traditional.

Hey, it's Dave Jackson from the School of Podcasting! In this episode, I dive into what truly delivers value to your podcast audience—drawing inspiration from an episode of the Novel Marketing podcast hosted by my buddy, Thomas Umstattd Jr..As I was driving to PodIndy, I caught myself sharing Thomas Umstattd Jr.'s episode with friends, and it hit me: why was this episode good enough for me to recommend? Today, I'm breaking down the answer to that question and sharing snippets of what I like to call "value bombs," even if that phrase is a bit cringey. Here's what I cover:Why knowing your audience inside and out is key to delivering value. How answering your audience's burning questions (like Thomas does) keeps them tuning in.The importance of overdelivering—smothering your audience in value so they want to share your show. Why direct recommendations from listeners are more powerful than any algorithm.Examples of how Thomas Umstattd Jr. teases upcoming content to keep listeners coming back. How sharing personal stories alongside expertise can connect with your audience. The role of hands-on “boots on the ground” experience versus just listing facts, and how this builds authority. Why saving your audience time or money equals big value.Teasing future episodes and weaving in stories to keep people engaged. The impact of authenticity and showing both sides of a topic. My own experiment comparing human podcasting value to AI research, and why the human touch still wins.A quick review/demonstration of the new Zoom PodTrack P4 Next and my honest thoughts on whether it's worth upgrading from the original P4.Lessons from a membership site migration disaster—and the importance of always having a backup plan for your content.Websites Mentioned:AuthorMedia.com — Home of the Novel Marketing podcast.SchoolofPodcasting.com — My home base for podcasting education.Perplexity AI — An AI research tool I tested for podcasting advice.Sweetwater — For buying podcast and audio gear.Backblaze — Backup service I use for safeguarding files.Voomly — New video host for my membership site.Loom and Tella — Video tools for creating support and course content.Gumroad - Tool to sell digital goods. My big takeaway? To truly deliver value: know your audience, answer their questions, overdeliver, and don't be afraid to share your own stories and expertise. When you save them time, money, or frustration, you make your podcast not only worth listening to—but worth sharing.Takeaways: Delivering value means understanding what your audience actually wants and needs. When you smother your audience in value, they'll be much more likely to share your...

Boobie and Modd are back, and it's been way too long. Episode 177 kicks off with a look at the black-tie concert wave that's taken over the culture and has everybody trading hoodies for formal wear. From there, the conversation gets even deeper as the guys react to Stephen A. Smith's comments on Jasmine Crockett, unpack the widening gap between Black elites and everyday Black folks, and question why Black people have become the face of food stamps—especially with benefits being cut right before the holidays. They also explore the timeless debate of how much money is truly enough, discuss Kamala Harris eyeing another run for president, and close with a real conversation about the types of people we choose to keep in our circle.

Clarita Villanueva was orphaned before she was teenager. With no one to care for her, Clarita began living on the streets of Manila, dancing for money and prostituting herself to degenerates. But things were about to get even worse for the poor girl… demonically worse. IN THIS EPISODE: It's been said that the average person walks past at least sixteen murderers in their lifetime. A chilling thought. But when you know that a serial killer is on the loose, you look at each stranger you meet as a potentially dangerous encounter. And right now in the UK they have a serial killer still at large targeting easy victims… the country's elderly. (UK's Senior Citizen Serial Killer) *** While the Spiritualism Movement caught fire in the 1840's with the Fox Sisters and stayed fairly strong for some time, after the 1920s most of the teachings and those soaking it in began to dwindle. Strangely though, there seems to be a kind of resurging interest in one particular man's writings here in the 21st century. Many are intrigued by the “secret teachings” of Manly P. Hall. (The Secret Teachings of Manly P. Hall) *** In May, 1987, Kenneth Parks walked into a police station and confessed, “I just killed two people; I've just killed my mother‑ and father‑in‑law.  I stabbed and beat them to death.  It's all my fault." Case closed, right? Well no… because it appears he might've been sleepwalking when he committed the murders. (The Sleepwalker Defense) *** When the body of Elva Shue was found next to her bed, it was assumed to be an accident. But her spirit refused to rest until someone investigated further. Her ghost was crying murder. (The Ghost That Solved a Murder) *** Clarita Villanueva was orphaned before she was teenager. With no one to care for her, Clarita began living on the streets of Manila, dancing for money and prostituting herself to degenerates.
