Get ready to wrap yourself in a cinematic blanket this week as Andy, Ash, Ed, and Stu sit down to give their top five "comfort food" films. These are the ultimate, cozy crowd-pleasers—the ones you can just switch off, sit back, and relax to when you need that cinematic warm hug. Then, the Short Short Film Film Review keeps things brief but intense as the hosts dive into 2026's 80-second thrill ride, Dead Grandma. Finally, the Cruise Cruise sails into the gothic shadows of 1994 as the guys sink their teeth into Interview with the Vampire. Tom trades in his legal briefs for fangs, ruffles, and centuries of existential dread alongside Brad Pitt. Will Lestat's charismatic villainy win over the guys, or will this vampire chronicle leave them cold? With the usual blend of silliness, seriousness, and a vital Scientology Watch update along the way, it's time to take Cruise Control.

This week is an absolute monster of an episode. We are diving into the most talked-about releases of the summer—navigating endless liminal spaces, heading to Eternia with He-Man, surviving a demonic road trip, and breaking down the return of the Wayans family to the parody throne. We're kicking off with A24's massive sci-fi psychological horror phenomenon, directed by YouTube sensation Kane Parsons in his feature debut. Chiwetel Ejiofor stars as a struggling furniture store owner who stumbles upon a dimension of endless, unsettling liminal spaces hidden right beneath his basement. Fun Flix Fact: The film's massive box office success made Kane Parsons the youngest filmmaker in history to reach number one at the American box office By the power of Grayskull, He-Man is back on the big screen! Directed by Travis Knight, this epic live-action adventure stars Nicholas Galitzine as Prince Adam/He-Man, who returns to Eternia to find his home shattered under the rule of Skeletor (Jared Leto). Fun Flix Fact: Jared Leto went to extreme lengths to stay in character and intimidate his co-stars. Director Travis Knight revealed that Leto wore his prosthetic skeletal muscle suit off-camera and regularly smeared what appeared to be blood on his face between takes! The parody godfathers are back. The Wayans brothers have returned to the franchise for the first time in 25 years, reuniting with Anna Faris and Regina Hall for a wild take on modern horror hits like Longlegs, Terrifier 3, and even the 2026 biopic Michael. Fun Flix Fact: To maintain absolute secrecy around the surprise cameos, the production filmed multiple alternate endings involving different modern horror antagonists, keeping even the cast guessing until the final cut. Rounding out our main reviews is the supernatural horror flick directed by André Øvredal (The Autopsy of Jane Doe). Jacob Scipio and Lou Llobell star as a young couple on a road trip who witness a terrible highway accident, only to find themselves hunted by a demonic entity known only as "The Passenger." Fun Flix Fact:The production managed to keep its budget incredibly tight at $15 million, relying on claustrophobic car interiors and intense practical lighting to build relentless tension. To celebrate a quarter-century of raunchy, unapologetic comedy, we are winding the clock back to 2001. We revisit the Wayans brothers' follow-up to the blockbuster original to see how its haunted house spoofs hold up in 2026. Fun Flix Fact: Scary Movie 2 was notoriously rushed into production, hitting theaters just over a year after the first film. Despite the incredibly tight turnaround, it cemented tropes that defined early 2000s comedy cinema. And if that's not enough entertainment for you, we've even thrown in new trailers to watch and what you can catch on streaming. Hit that subscribe button right now so you never miss an episode of The Flixters! In this episode I speak again with Rev. Máire Durkan. We talk about Frigg and the twelve goddesses who make up her “Council.” But from a different perspective and way of getting to know them. In Frigg's Twelvefold Flame, Máire's approach to the goddesses shows how they can be worked with to help with pressing matters today including justice, activism, and allyship. They are not (and never have been) “lesser” goddesses in the background to be occasionally referred to when it suits a purpose. They are vibrant, active, and have a message that is needed in today's society and climate worldwide. Although many of the Council do not have a lot of lore, mythology, or archeological remnants, they are reaching through the veil of mystery those absences create to connect with people today to write new stories, create ritual, empower, and inspire creativity and activism. Frigg's Twelvefold Flame is available from Llewellyn Books, local book shops, or online sellers. Máire will be presenting at Lewellyn Con 2026 on Thursday, June 11 at 11 am CDT. She is on social media on Facebook and Instagram and her website is: https://www.revmairedurkanauthor.com/ Listen to episode 51 for our previous discussion about Frigg and the Council with Rev. This week, Andy, Ash, and Stu grab the tissues and brace themselves for a journey through the ultimate emotional rollercoaster of cinema as they kick off this month's theme: Happy Days and Sad Nights.First up, the guys count down their top five "Happy Tears" films. Those heartwarming, tear-jerking masterpieces that manage to devastate and uplift us all at once. Then, in part two, the trio takes a retrospective look back at everything they watched throughout the month of May, checking the box office receipts and separating the genuine cinematic triumphs from the total duds. The Short Short Film Film Review takes a poignant turn as the hosts dive into the deeply moving short-form documentary, A Place Like This. Finally, the Cruise Cruise docks in 1993 for the legal thriller The Firm. Tom trades in his dress uniform for Harvard law degrees, high-stakes tax fraud, and a web of corporate corruption. Minimalist music is not about minimal materials. It's about time. It's a process that puts the experience of time into sound. In discussing Minimalist Music, his new book for 33 1/3's GENRE series, musician and critic George Grella, Jr. (Miles Davis' Bitches Brew) looks at the classical music history that pushed composers like Philip Glass, Steve Reich, Meredith Monk, and Arvo Pärt to pursue a musical approach that shunned early 20th Century academic trends and brought classical music back to the public. He also talks about the ways this music interacts with pop culture, through film scores and soundtracks and appearances on TV shows like The Simpsons and Ted Lasso. Hosted and produced by Justin Remer. Recorded remotely via Zencastr. If you like podcasts, maybe you would enjoy audiobooks too. Please out the Skylight Books Podcast playlist of audiobooks featured in our recent Skylit author interviews, on Libro.fm. Opening music: "Optimism (Instrumental)" by Duck the Piano Wire. Closing music: "Rule of 3s (Solemnity Child)" by Elastic No-No Band.
