This week on Talking Headways we're flashing back to exactly ten years ago to Episode 78 with Dr. Kevin Gurney, now at Northern Arizona University. We chat about measuring emissions at the street, block, and neighborhood level and the data that enables it. I wanted to flash back to this one this week because I recently saw Kevin pop up in a New York Times article discussing all the work that the administration is cutting, including three of his projects. I'll link the article in the show notes. But we talked about his work on the podcast ten years ago and it's important to understand what we may be losing, which is the measurement of emissions from cars and buildings in cities. In listening back to this episode, there are lots of things that are evergreen about it, in fact I would argue we still need policy that allows us to collect data and measure emissions so we can make better decisions as advocates and operators. I hope folks can listen to this one and be inspired by the work, but also become more dedicated to saving it. We lost a lot in the dark ages, we don't need to go back there again. +++ Get the show ad free on Patreon! Amy Posner and Kirsty Fanton have been (highly successful) lone wolves in the online business world for years. So when they teamed up to launch a new group coaching programme, they were so excited to be working together they forgot to create a launch strategy.Without a plan, their launch totally flopped. They sold just 2 spots. On this episode of Mistakes That Made Me, Amy and Kirsty join me for a conversation about how us business owners sometimes preach one thing for our clients and but then don't do the same thing for ourselves. Nick LeRoy, Enterprise SEO Consultant and author of *SEO For Lunch*, joins Ross Hudgens to debate a hot topic in SEO right now — the rise of “Best X” listicles and the emergence of what Nick calls **LLM PBNs**. They unpack the ethics, brand risk, and strategic value of publishing your own “best” lists to capture AI-era visibility and how tactics once considered gray hat are being re-examined in the age of ChatGPT and AI Overviews. If you've ever wondered whether to publish your own “Best X” article (or what happens when you do), this episode dives deep into the data, the risk, and the real takeaways for modern SEO strategy. **Plus:** brand perception vs. performance marketing, AI training data, the ethics of self-ranking, and why most “shortcuts” aren't worth it in 2025. What really drives human progress? What is innovation, and why is innovation not just a feature of modern society but a law of life? How do energy, cooperation, and culture shape the way we create new ideas? These are ideal questions with which to launch our new podcast season on the beauty and burdens of innovation, and I can't think of anyone better suited to address them than my guest today.Dr. Michael Muthukrishna is joint Professor of Economic Psychology at the London School of Economics and Professor of Psychology at NYU (from January 2026). At LSE, he is also Affiliate of the Data Science Institute and STICERD Developmental Economics Group. Michael's research applies an evolutionary framework to understand human cooperation, tackling key topics, including: the barriers to cooperation, particularly how different mechanisms of cooperation (such as family ties versus impartial institutions) can potentially undermine each other; the impact of cultural differences on psychology and behavior; the processes of social learning; and how these learning processes drive innovation and cultural change. His research and interviews have appeared in outlets including CNN, BBC, The Wall Street Journal, The Economist, Scientific American, PBS, Vice, Newsweek, Time, New York Magazine, Nature News, Science News, The Times, The Telegraph, and The Guardian. Michael's research is informed by his educational background in engineering and psychology, with graduate training in evolutionary biology, economics, and statistics, and his personal background living in Sri Lanka, Botswana, Papua New Guinea, Australia, Canada, United States, and United Kingdom. Jamie I.F. talks about what it was like losing $80K a month in affiliate revenue, rebuilding from the ground up, and what keyword research really looks like in the age of AI. He is a former affiliate SEO who once scaled to $80,000 per month before the HCU update brought that down to nearly zero. Now, Jamie focuses on building software for SEOs and other niches. One of his tools, Answer Socrates, helps bloggers generate thousands of topic ideas and cluster them into organized groups so they can focus on the fun part: writing. By leveraging SEO, Jamie has grown the tool to over 100K monthly users and has also found creative ways to drive traffic through platforms like Reddit. Jamie shares the wild ride from skyrocketing affiliate earnings to starting over after Google's updates. He teaches us how to approach keyword research differently in the AI era, how Reddit is reshaping SEO, and why feelings, not just facts, win traffic today. Key points discussed include: Affiliate highs and lows: One decision brought in $80K a month, but it all disappeared overnight, showing how fragile affiliate-heavy models have become in today's SEO world. Products over pure info: Relying only on informational content is riskier than ever, but turning expertise into products can safeguard your business from AI scrapers and shifting algorithms. Keyword depth wins: Ranking for just one keyword is no longer enough, and covering a range of related subtopics builds the topical authority needed to compete. Clustering made simple: Grouping hundreds of keywords into meaningful clusters makes it easier to plan content strategically without drowning in data. AI overviews explained: Google and ChatGPT pull from multiple sources, and structuring content clearly increases the chances of being featured in those summaries. Reddit power: Reddit now dominates search results, and thoughtful participation can drive traffic, spark PR coverage, and strengthen brand visibility. Make people feel: Optimization helps, but content that stirs emotion keeps readers engaged and loyal even when AI-generated summaries crowd the search results. Connect with Jamie I.F. Website

On today's episode of the Occult Symbolism and Pop Culture with Isaac Weishaupt podcast we are joined by a true renaissance woman who's done it all: from writing and journalism to filmmaking and collaborating with David Lynch and Dennis Hopper; she's the creator of the Library of Esoterica book series from the iconic publishing house Taschen! She spends some time with us to share her life's journey into the esoteric realms we talk about so often. A massive crowd of 200,000 filled Arizona's State Farm Stadium as President Trump, cabinet secretaries, faith leaders, and family honored the life and legacy of Charlie Kirk. Congresswoman Ilhan Omar doubled down on her vile remarks about Charlie Kirk. The man accused of firing into ABC10's Sacramento station was arrested by the FBI after posting bail, with social media posts revealing anti-Trump rhetoric. One man was killed and two others wounded when a gunman reportedly shouting “free Palestine” opened fire at a wedding in New Hampshire.
