I take goals that I have put on the back burner and use you as my accountability partner to stick to them. I track my goals and progress here on this podcast, YouTube, and Instagram.
It has been 1 week! I'm excited to share about my 5th goal from the back burner, DAILY GREEN JUICE. Drinking green juice everyday is an easy add-on for me. I have juiced in the past and have always wanted to bring it back as a consistent feature of my routine. It is like drinking pure health. I typically use a couple different kinds of kale, cucumber, celery, broccoli or cauliflower, apple, lemon, and ginger. It takes me a little under an hour from start to finish and I usually do it in the morning after a 12+ hour fast (Goal #2, intermittent fasting). As I follow up with this goal I want to see that I am not falling off the wagon. It is important that I maintain discipline, ‘hold the line', and really make this a habit I look forward to. There are some frustrations and hurdles, and I'll talk about those in a ‘GROWING PAINS' recording. YOUTUBE
Daily Prayer is important to me for the following 3 reasons: LIFE IS WAR PRAYER IS NATURAL PRAYER IS BIBLICAL I want to be a person who prays every day. At the start of this goal in WEEK 7 of FROM THE BACK BURNER, I am not a daily prayer. I have never been a daily prayer. I have ALWAYS WANTED TO BE, though. So what's up? Prayer is easy to SKIP DISMISS AND DISCREDIT. GOAL #7, “DAILY PRAYER”, is a campaign against internal weakness and habitually poor decisions. From now on I will pray everyday. That's all there is to it. It's one of those things that's ‘simple but not easy'. As with all of my goals, simplicity is key. All I ask of myself is to pray for 15 minutes or more everyday. “Only 15 minutes? That's nothing, that's not going to be a good prayer life!” TRUE! It's not a long time and it won't be a great prayer life. But it will be a prayer life and a new life of prayer. I fully expect to pray longer as I work prayer into my daily rhythm. 15 minutes is the benchmark I'm starting with. So, that is GOAL #7. GO TO MY YOUTUBE CHANNEL
I've now been exercising almost everyday for 5 weeks. In this segment I discuss how it's been going!
GOAL #6 is to stay up to date on a comprehensive schedule of ALL DUTIES around the home and related to our possessions. This means, basically, that I want to do chores and do them consistently. This goal means a lot to me because I have a lot of respect for people who are prepared, take care of their things, keep an organized and clean home, and are all around reliable human beings. This goal is a major step for me in that direction. I also benefit A LOT from having an organized and clean environment. I think better, feel better, and enjoy my life more. It might seem silly, but it's real. As Jordan Peterson would say, "start by cleaning your room." YOUTUBE
This video is an introduction to the "Growing Pains" series I am starting. IN THIS SERIES... I will share any and all unique experiences that result from having goals and sticking to them. A SIDE EFFECT of maintaining discipline with goals is GROWTH. It actually works... consistency... I'm only 4 weeks in and I'm already sensing great improvement in my body and mind. It is incredible and I'm very happy to see and feel results from these goals. THAT SAID... it is also a new way of living. This new self-standard comes with psychological and physical adaptations. These changes are, at times, uneasy feeling. It's NEW TERRITORY. Thank you for being here! What's on your back burner? INSTAGRAM YOUTUBE
It has now been 4 weeks since I started GOAL #1, DAILY EXERCISE. In this episode I discuss how I'm doing and what my thoughts are on this goal as I move forward. I hope this is useful and you find a way to make things happen FROM YOUR OWN BACK BURNER. SOCIAL: INSTAGRAM YOUTUBE
I will be drinking green juice everyday as GOAL #5! This goal is one I am excited about because I have done this in the past and truly loved how it helped me. I have never kept up with it for more than a few weeks, however, because juicing can get old after awhile... This time, however, I am taking this goal from the back burner and keeping up with it. Along with my first 4 goals, drinking green juice is meant to help me feel energized and healthy as I live my life. Please check out my other goals and CHECK OUT YOUR OWN BACK BURNER for goals you need to follow up on. SOCIAL INSTAGRAM YOUTUBE #drinkgreenjuiceeveryday #goals #fromthebackburner
In this video I describe how it's been going for 2 weeks of daily intermittent fasting! I have been successfully achieving a 12+ hour window daily. I don't eat after dinner until breakfast the next day. That's it. BUT it's still hard not to snack at night... What's on your back burner? This is a 1 WEEK FOLLOW-UP of me drinking 3+ Liters of water everyday. It has been going very well! Using my water bottle makes it much easier. Noting each day that I have succeeded in drinking the water has also helped a lot. I feel good about how it is going. THANK YOU FOR BEING HERE and helping me stick the goals that are important to me. I am going to drink lemon water every morning! I will squeeze a lemon into my 1.5L water bottle and drink it before I eat or drink anything else - that's all there is to it. This is my GOAL #4 and I add a new goal each week. Please look at the other goals I am doing and stick around to see how I'm doing. FROM THE BACK BURNER is I keep myself organized and accountable over time. All of these goals are important to me BUT I have not stuck to them... This is my check-in after 2 weeks of exercising daily. THE GOAL: Per my "GOAL #1" document and video, I set out to do 30 minutes of exercise each day. My heart rate has to be in the aerobic range! I give myself one day off for rest or circumstances if needed. HOW IT WENT: I am letting myself be proud of this last week! I did 6/7 days, one day off for rest because I was sore. HOW I FEEL: Physically I feel lighter, faster, more comfortable, and my energy is increasing. After the 30 minutes I feel more energized than before. Mentally I am very shocked I have done this. I have not lied to myself and justified failure to follow through. I have not slacked off or made excuses. I now feel a trust I have not felt before: I trust that I will do what I set out to do, if at least I make it a part of this system of goals I am building out. FROM THE BACK BURNER: This is not for the purpose of sharing my journey, but to ensure that I keep marching down the path I have wanted to travel down for years. I love being comfortable and enjoy making crafty excuses to cut corners. It has cost me years of progress in basic things like being healthy and knowing things I want to know. Even being the dad and husband I want to be. This channel/platform is my accountability partner. I can justify slacking off if only to myself, but to a public place? I am very strict with myself. I have outsmarted myself by creating this channel and using it to hold myself accountable. I hope that you tend to your own back burner and set out to do the things you know you want/need to do. If I am at all helpful in that journey, then my sharing has multiplied in value beyond the scope of my own life. SOCIAL: INSTAGRAM YOUTUBE
This is GOAL #3 FROM THE BACK BURNER. I have been exercising and intermittent fasting daily - now I will make sure I am drinking plenty of water. I add a new goal every week and do follow up videos to keep me accountable. I am systematically implementing goals and tracking them while using YOU AS MY ACCOUNTABILITY PARTNER. Granted, you don't have to do anything... me having to report progress to this channel helps me tremendously. This is a record of me changing my life, one goal at a time, no biggie. I'll see you at the next checkpoint! SOCIAL INSTAGRAM YOUTUBE #goals #fromthebackburner #lotsofwatereveryday
ONE WEEK AGO I set out exercise for 30 minutes everyday! This is the follow-up on how it went, as well as comments on how this channel is working out so far. IT WAS OKAY, but I did skip a day in addition to using my skip day. That means I did 5/7 days. This is OKAY BUT NOT GREAT. I WILL FOLLOW UP AGAIN in one week to share improvements! You are my accountability partner, thank you for being here! See you at the next checkpoint! ---- SOCIAL INSTAGRAM #fromthebackburner #dailyexercise #goals #followup
INTERMITTENT FASTING is Goal #2 from the back burner. I have always wanted to do intermittent fasting but never manage to do it for more than a few weeks at a time. For me, the end of dinner until breakfast the next day is about 12 - 16 hours. This is the perfect time for me to accomplish this daily. It also won't be too invasive of a goal to take on. MY BIGGEST CHALLENGE will be NOT eating snack food at night! BEING CONSISTENTLY DISCIPLINED for long stretches of time is also a big challenge. This channel is meant to serve as an extra boost for me to keep track of, and stay on top of all my goals. The next few goals will be related to staying healthy. After that there will be a few faith related goals (I'm a Christian). Then there will be dozens more to follow that cover many areas. SO STICK AROUND. Thank you for indirectly being my accountability partner! See you at the next checkpoint! ---- SOCIAL INSTAGRAM https://www.instagram.com/fromthebackburner/ #fromthebackburner #intermittentfasting #goals
The first goal FROM THE BACK BURNER is daily exercise! I am creating this platform to give me a willpower boost to stay consistent with my goals. I have a history of putting things on the back burner, but now I am systematically sticking to them all. HERE IS MY OFFICIAL GOAL STATEMENT: DAILY EXERCISE GOAL #1 Description: Any physical activity that lasts 30 minutes or more and maintains at least an aerobic heart rate* for that duration. Exception: ‘One day off per week' can be used to cover unforeseen circumstances that prevent daily exercise. The day off is NOT required and does NOT accumulate when not used. Trackability: A chart will be used to track the completion of daily exercise. A guiding principle in creating this chart is ‘simplicity'. I only want to see that I am meeting the basic requirements of ‘daily exercise' as presented in the description above. ---- SOCIAL INSTAGRAM https://www.instagram.com/fromthebackburner/ #fromthebackburner #intermittentfasting #goals Thank you for being here!
