Do you know what's happening in your body when you take birth control? Most women are told about the obvious birth control side effects — a little weight gain, maybe some mood swings — but you have to work MUCH harder to find anyone talking about the deeper impacts on your brain, thyroid, gallbladder, gut, and even fertility. That's why today I'm talking with hormone expert Leisha Drews - mom of 3, RN, FDN-P, RCPC, Holistic Hormone Coach, and host of the Happily Hormonal Podcast. Together, we're tackling the dirty details of birth control:Different types of birth control availableHow they actually work in the bodyAnd the real birth control side effects you need to know before making a decision Because the truth is — birth control side effects go far beyond what your doctor explains. We're talking changes to memory, mood, attraction, thyroid health, nutrient depletion, and even your risk of autoimmune disease. So if you've ever wondered: birth control, how does it work? What are the real trade-offs? And what should you focus on if you're thinking about coming off it? — then you are in the right place. The conversation explores findings from a recent clinical trial, including measurable age reversal using epigenetic clocks.Eric explains how removing and replacing plasma can dilute pro-aging factors in the blood, a concept inspired by earlier animal studies on parabiosis. He also describes why rigorous, placebo-controlled human trials are crucial for validating longevity interventions and distinguishing the field from hype-driven wellness trends. The episode also highlights how omics data, such as metabolomics and proteomics, are shaping a new era of precision aging research. Eric emphasizes the value of lifestyle interventions as a foundation and sees future opportunities in combining TPE with personalized strategies to extend healthspan.  Guest-at-a-Glance

Ozempic Teeth? My Dentist Weighs In On This Surprising Side Effect

The Debbie Nigro Show

Play Episode Listen Later Sep 3, 2025 15:02

On The Debbie Nigro Show, I like to dig into stories that make you go, “Wait, what?!” This week's head-turner: “Ozempic Teeth.” Yep, that's the headline making waves, and I knew I had to call in my go-to expert, Dr. John Castanaro of Castanaro Dental in Yonkers, NY, to help get to ‘the tooth of the matter'. What Are “Ozempic Teeth”? GLP-1 medications like Ozempic and Wegovy have taken the world by storm for their weight-loss benefits. But dentists are warning about side effects showing up in the mouth. According to Dr. Castanaro: “It's not the drug itself causing problems—it's the side effects like acid reflux, nausea, vomiting, dry mouth, and sometimes malnutrition.” Those issues can lead to enamel erosion, cavities, swollen gums, and even gingivitis. In short: less saliva = more dental drama. Prevention Is Key The good news? Simple changes can protect your smile: Drink more water. Dehydration is a big culprit. Use products like Biotene (a rinse that coats and protects against dry mouth). Chew sugar-free gum or candies to stimulate saliva. Stay active. Even light walking helps reduce reflux and nausea. Stay on top of dental visits. Dr. Castanaro recommends some patients schedule three cleanings a year instead of two. As he put it: “Prevention and being on top of it—being educated about it—is everything. You can't ignore these signs.” Dentistry's Big Trend Beyond Ozempic teeth, Dr. Castanaro noted a bigger shift: younger generations with fewer cavities are turning to cosmetic upgrades like Invisalign and whitening. Thanks to new tech (hello, 3D printers!), straighter, whiter smiles are now easier and less invasive than ever. My Takeaway Ozempic teeth might sound scary, but the fix is refreshingly simple: hydrate, care for your teeth, and don't skip the dentist. As always, knowledge is power—and I'm glad Dr. Castanaro was here to drop some wisdom (and a little humor). “At the end of the day, prevention and awareness go a long way.” Thanks, Doc. Enlighten yourself in the short podcast of my live conversation with Dr. John Castanaro on The Debbie Nigro Show.

In this episode of "Normal World," Dave Landau, 1/4 Black Garrett, and Angela dive into the rise of virtual reality comedy. They explore what it's like to perform on a VR stage, how audiences from around the world connect in real time, and why this new format could change the future of stand-up. The conversation then shifts to pop culture. The panel reacts to Kathy Griffin's latest facelift, revisits Howard Stern's notorious “butterface” segment, and looks back at the wild personalities of Stern's Whack Pack. That sparks debate about familiar names and a surprising update on Beetlejuice, whose larger-than-life presence continues online. From there, they recall unforgettable moments from Corey Feldman and Limp Bizkit, weaving sharp commentary with absurd behind-the-scenes stories. Later, the hosts react to headlines about Ozempic and its strange side effects, questioning how health trends shape the way people view image and longevity. The episode wraps inside Soapstone Comedy Club's VR world, where digital stages, interactive features, and a global community highlight the strange but exciting blend of comedy and technology. On this episode of Vitality Radio, Jared addresses Illinois' new mandate requiring annual mental health screenings for students in grades 3–12. While it's being framed as a step forward for children's well-being, Jared unpacks the hidden ties to pharmaceutical interests, the flawed screening tools linked to Pfizer, and the real risk of funneling kids toward lifelong prescriptions of SSRIs and other psychotropic drugs. You'll learn why the “chemical imbalance” theory of depression has been debunked, how placebo often performs as well as antidepressants in studies, and the dangers of medicating developing brains. Jared also shares his wife Jen's powerful journey of breaking free from decades on antidepressants through nutrition, gut healing, and root-cause support. This episode challenges the narrative that more medication equals better care, highlighting safer, natural paths to emotional vitality. It initially signified awareness of systemic injustices and racial prejudice. However, the term has become highly politicized, with some using it as a derogatory term for those perceived as politically left-leaning or overly concerned with social justice issues.
