Well, that’s all, folks! We’ll wrap up season one with discussions of Ruby’s death, bionic arms, genetic essentialism, shoggoth fights, lots of blood, Ji-ah’s tails, and all the ups and downs of this truly insane finale. Thanks for tuning in every week! Let us know if you’d like to hear from us again if Lovecraft Country gets a season two! We’re ramping up for the ending by going back to the past—the 1921 Tulsa Massacre, to be exact. Today we’ll talk about trauma, family, inheritance, and the dream of safe Black spaces. Here’s hoping our heroes will be able to find one (or make one!) as they head back into creepy, crawly Lovecraft country next time…
"Jig-a-Bobo" was jam-packed, and so is this week's Lovecraft Country Bumpkin. We managed to talk about the murder of Emmett Till, minstrelsy, Black parenting, queerness, Uncle Tom's Cabin, and more. We even found a few minutes to gush about how much we all want a pet shoggoth (except Klara. She's still denying that they're awesome, but we'll bring her around).
Hippolyta and her extradimensional journey of self-discovery gave us way more warm fuzzies than we expected from a horror show! The Afro Goddess said we can be whoever we want to be and we felt that. Hopefully Montrose gets the memo.
American media needed more kumiho stories. Trust Lovecraft Country to deliver! Join us as we follow the tangled web of culture clash, family drama, and sexual violence at the heart of “Meet Me in Daegu.”
Ruby's here and she don't have time for your good/evil binaries. We're disturbed and we're going to talk about it! Honorable mention goes to body, gender, consent, drag queens, and all the other things that made this episode wild and wonderful!
In this week's episode Indiana Jones--er, Lovecraft Country--brought us an adventure story! We'll talk about the action and the adrenaline, as well as the way the concept of race is mutually constructed and how everything Montrose does is wrong. Enjoy today's extra-long episode as a thank you for your patience!
We interrupt your regularly scheduled creepy crawlies to draw your attention to Scholar Strike! Even though it means that our episode will be a little late this week, we're grateful for your understanding and support as we contribute to this important cause. See y'all real soon!
"Holy Ghost" basically broke every haunted house trope ever, so let us count the ways. But even with all these ghosts, let's be honest, the really unbelievable thing about this episode was that these Black kids managed to both obtain and use a Ouija board without getting whipped by their mammas.
This week on Lovecraft Country Bumpkin, it's all about those creepy white men in hoods. We'll talk about Black trauma and how the Sons of Adam and Atticus' mystical lineage calls back to the KKK and rules of slave heredity. Also, Torre just really loves the baby shoggoth.
Join us on our journey through Lovecraft Country, y'all! Torre, LaTara, and Klara break down the Lovecraftian elements, analyze racism past and present, and fangirl over Journee Smollett and Jonathan Majors in this inaugural episode of Lovecraft Country Bumpkin.
