We always tell you not to play with Ouija boards... and then you send us stories that make us want to ignore our own advice. We're reading some of the wildest spirit board encounters in our inbox, featuring familial hauntings, lingering entities, terrifying mimics, and enough "absolutely not" moments to make you swear off the planchette forever. Stories include: A Halloween Ouija session takes a terrifying turn when a notorious entity answers through the board and seems strangely connected to one participant. A childhood game with a Ouija board hidden in a church attic leads to a decades-long, inter-generational haunting by a mysterious entity known as Abigail. Sleep paralysis, a creature with rotting breath, and a figure hiding beneath the bed all begin shortly after a teenage Ouija session. A sleepover experiment unleashes unexplained illness, disturbing dreams, a protective grandfather spirit, and a Ouija board that mysteriously reappears after being destroyed. Hey, it's jD here. August 20th, 2026. Bath, Ontario. A stone coach house west of Kingston that the band turned into a recording room, where "Phantom Power", "Music @ Work", "We Are The Same", and "Man Machine Poem" were all made. Ten years to the day since the last show. This is the last one. Yer Hipstories: Reflections From The Final Tour ran the length of the Man Machine Poem Tour, city by city, Victoria east to Kingston, and it ends here, in the room where the last record was made. Three fans at the table, and not one of them tells August 20th the same way. One was on the floor. One was in the square with 25,000 people. One was on his couch in Brockville with a bottle of wine and a good reason.
At twelve, Julie stared at a clawed arm at the end of her bed for seven seconds and then went back to reading, and the two decades that followed are why a UFO investigator spent weeks taking her statement.DEEP-DIVE ARTICLE about Archer Avenue & Resurrection Mary: https://weirddarkness.com/resurrection-mary/EPISODE BLOG PAGE (includes sources): https://weirddarkness.com/EncountersOfJulieREAD or DOWNLOAD the full transcript of this episode: https://weirddarkness.tiny.us/mtepz5jcFEATURED STORIES IN THIS EPISODE: If you've listened to Weird Darkness for any length of time, you know that I will often suggest someone who has had a paranormal disturbance in their home or life, reach out to a pastor or priest for guidance. But what exactly happens when the Catholic Church starts investigating the paranormal? (When The Catholic Church Goes Ghost Hunting) *** Many states around America say they have the most haunted road in the country. And while the words “most haunted” are somewhat subjective, it's hard not to see why people outside of Chicago consider Archer Avenue not only the top spooky street in America, but the most haunted on the planet. (The Anguish Of Archer Avenue) *** After allegedly murdering her husband in 1960, Sharon Kinne shot her lover's pregnant wife. Then, she evaded justice and escaped to Mexico only to kill again — before vanishing without a trace. (The American Murderess Who Disappeared in 1969) *** Modern courtrooms aren't equipped or knowledgable enough to determine whether or not ghosts are real, but that hasn't stopped ghosts from appearing in several court cases! (Court Cases Involving Ghosts) *** When you hear of a two-headed creature you typically think of two heads side-by-side growing from the neck and shoulders area. But have you ever heard of a creature growing another head on the very top of it's other head? It happened… and not to just any creature. It was a human boy who lived much longer than anyone expected. (The Bengal Boy With Two Heads) *** Buried alive inside the castle walls, the Finnish Maiden immured still haunts the medieval building of Olavinlinna Castle. (The Maiden of Olavinlinna Castle) *** The case of “Julie” from Carlisle in the United Kingdom is an intriguing one not only because it unfolded over many years, but because it appears to straddle the line between apparent reptilian entities and paranormal activity. Dave Hodrien of the Birmingham UFO Group interviewed her in early 2022 about twenty years of reptilian sightings, poltergeist activity, and shadow figures that followed her from that bedroom into the hospital wards where she later worked as a senior nurse. From there comes the boy born in the Bengali village of Mundul Gaut in May 1783 with a second head sitting inverted on top of the first, an upper head that wept and tried to nurse while its expressions ran independent of the child's. A cobra killed him at four, a salt agent for the East India Company robbed his grave, and his skull still sits in the Hunterian Museum in London as a specimen of craniopagus parasiticus, a parasitic twinning that occurs in two or three births out of five million. The Vatican's paranormal caseload runs through the Congregation for the Causes of Saints and the Consulta Medica, a board of Italian Catholic physicians who rule on whether a healing has any natural explanation, with Michael O'Neill of MiracleHunter.com estimating that 99.9 percent of investigated miracles are medical. Father Lampert puts genuine demonic possession at one case in five thousand, and the Vatican's revised 1999 guidelines require priests to consult mental health professionals before any exorcism is approved.Archer Avenue follows, the old Native American trail southwest of Chicago where Resurrection Mary has hitchhiked between the O'Henry Ballroom and Resurrection Cemetery since the 1930s, and where police answering a call on August 10th, 1976 found the cemetery bars bent apart and scorched with handprints. The same stretch carries phantom monks at St. James of the Sag, a cloven hoofprint outside Kaiser Hall, a driverless hearse, the Maple Lake ghost light, and Red Gate Woods, where the world's first nuclear reactor lies buried from the Manhattan Project.Olavinlinna Castle, built on a lake island in southeastern Finland in 1475, holds the legend of the lord's daughter who opened the gate for her Russian lover and was condemned for treason and immured alive in the courtyard wall, with a rowan tree of white flowers and red berries said to have grown where she died.Sharon Kinne told police in March 1960 that her toddler had shot her husband, collected $230,000, and was acquitted of killing her lover's pregnant wife before fleeing to Mexico City, where she shot a man in a motel room and earned the nickname La Pistolera; she walked out of Iztapalapa prison during a blackout on December 7th, 1969 and has never been found. The episode closes on hauntings that reached a courtroom, from the 1917 Ouija-board novel Jap Herron credited to Mark Twain's ghost to Stambovsky v. Ackley, the 1991 Ghostbusters ruling that made a Nyack house legally haunted, and Gerald Brittle's $900 million suit daring Warner Bros. to prove the events behind The Conjuring actually happened.
The girls aren't the only ones with terrifying tales. Everyone's got something to say on this True Listener Tales edition #43, as the listeners say, “Hey, here's the most traumatic thing that ever happened to me”. This round starts with a fake dead mom prank. Caveat: that's not a prank, that's psychological warfare. Then we get a Ouija board sleepover, a ghost named Rasha, a bathroom mirror, vomiting and a smiling figure in the hallway. From there, the stories keep escalating because apparently everybody decided to submit from the devil's group chat. We get a grandfather's final goodbye, a ghost light being hurled across a theater, Sergio praying over Jane and getting grabbed by something with inhuman strength, Bala speaking in his dead uncle's voice at a funeral, a Tombstone tipping table with attitude, demonic grandparents eating some bloody red thing, Maeve's glitch-walking shadow creature, and Anthony's near-death experience after being hit by a car. Not sure this is the kind of “list is endless” moment we want but it's what we've got. Heebie-jeebies maxxing, anyone?
History remembers the headlines, but the ghosts remember everything. This week, we're diving into listener encounters from some of the world's darkest historic places, where lingering spirits, unexplained phenomena, and chilling coincidences make the past feel anything but over. Stories include: A great-grandmother's Ouija board (which was gifted to us!) carries a century of family history, séances, and eerie coincidences surrounding the spirits of loved ones. Stories from two different listeners about the famously haunted Myrtles Plantation, each with ghost photos. A visit to Australia's Quarantine Station brings strange tastes, a debilitating headache, and a massive orb of light witnessed by multiple students. A listener experiences vivid dreams connected to the Holocaust before encountering a full-body apparition who seems to recognize her. A trip to the Tower of London includes a smoky paranormal encounter and a raven who absolutely refuses to let a visitor operate a water fountain without supervision. Watch the video version here. Y'all sent us some GOOD ones this week! Alexa is a sci-fi / thriller short story by Paul Trammell, narrated by the author. The idea was inspired by a comment made by Tina Erwin in an earlier episode. I was asking her why spirits frequented Ouija boards and tarot cards. The short answer was "tradition," but she went on to say that it's entirely possible that technology could offer them a new and more effective portal. Why not an Alexa, I thought, and the story was born.

At Spirit Fest in Virginia Beach, Will and Karen sit down with Amiee Gibson of The Hidden Court of Heka, a luxury ritual perfume house built entirely around one Egyptian concept: that words, spoken, written, or simply held in the heart, are magic.Amiee walks through her three "chambers," each a scent world built around a different sense of belonging, from resin-and-rose blends to a dream-enhancing floral chamber of blue tansy and jasmine. She explains why her perfumes age for eight to twelve weeks before they're ready, how a jojoba-oil base gives them a two-year shelf life, and the small ritual trick that can stretch a single application to last all day.The conversation turns personal and a little spooky when Amiee describes her handmade spirit boards, each one warded, engraved with an original incantation, and designed to be used alone rather than with a group, a deliberate departure from the Ouija boards most people grew up fearing. It's a conversation about intention, craft, and the old idea that what you speak, you become.Guest: Amiee Gibson, The Hidden Court of HekaFind her: hiddencourtofhekka.comThe Skeptic Metaphysicians is a spiritual awakening podcast for open-minded thinkers who refuse to check their critical thinking at the door. After one of their friends dies, a group of five friends attempt to communicate with her through the use of a Ouija board. In week two of Things You Don't Fuck With month, we discuss Ouija. The film stars Olivia Cooke in a very familiar horror movie where a group of friends experience loss and look to communicate with their dead friend through a Ouija board. Unfortunately, in looking to communicate with their close friend, they contact a spirit that isn't so friendly. This film is full of the classic paranormal ghost tropes you're used to seeing from teen horror movies and wasn't our cup of tea. This week's episode features frequent guest Phil Munoz of Notre Dame University, sitting in for John Yoo, discussing his very timely new article in First Things magazine on "The Founders and the Common Good." His article is getting a fair bit of buzz on the interwebs, as it takes up the surprisingly hot topic of "post-liberalism," in particular to dispute the contention of some leading post-liberals that the American Founding was defective and therefore part of the problem. We also take up briefly an excellent article on the same issue by Andrew Walker in The Daily Wire, "The Neutrality Myth: Liberty, Order and the Common Good." Both worthy of your reading pile.(By the way, speaking of First Things, have I mentioned that I am thinking about starting a quarterly academic journal for the OnlyFans community, and calling it First Thongs? I'll show myself out. . .)This episode also features a short cameo appearance by "Henry Kissinger" (we summoned him by means of a Ouija board) to bring his legendary perspective to our current foriegn policy confusion, and we tackle a listener question about populism. Our new voice for the show opener is Colin McClean, a noted voice-actor in Britain, semi-retired from a distinguished business career in The City. You can read about his voice work at his website Vocal Flair, and I also recommend his YouTube channel, The Healing Voice, where he ranges widely from poetry, music, story-telling, and some sensible psychology.

In 2001, a 53-year-old Oklahoma grandmother with no criminal record sits her daughter and two granddaughters around a Ouija board, convinced the planchette isn't a game – it's a direct line to God. By morning, her son-in-law is dead. This week on Crime Scene, Jonathan and Cooper are joined by paranormal expert Sabrina Deana-Roga (Two Girls One Ghost) to unpack one of the only cases where a Ouija board was entered into evidence…and the rare insanity defense that actually worked. Years earlier, she'd experimented with a Ouija board like so many curious teenagers. Life moved on, and she rarely gave those nights a second thought. Then, during the painful collapse of her marriage, something changed.Every night, after moving into a different bedroom, she became aware of a strange presence. It never frightened her. In fact, it brought an overwhelming sense of peace, and before long she'd come to expect it. Falling asleep almost seemed impossible without it.But comfort slowly gave way to something else. As the days passed, she no longer recognized the person staring back at her in the mirror. Then one morning, she discovered something on her own body that disappeared almost as quickly as it had appeared. Was it grief... stress... or had something far darker been quietly gaining her trust all along?#RealGhostStories #GhostStories #TrueGhostStories #OuijaBoard #DarkEntity #ParanormalEncounter #SpiritAttachment #HauntedExperience #Demonology #UnexplainedLove real ghost stories? Stone Cold (1991) Director: Craig R. Baxley Starring: Brian Bosworth, Lance Henriksen, William Forsythe, Richard GantSomewhere in 1991, a man in a skunk-tail alligator duster looked at a grocery store full of Ritz crackers and decided they had to die. That man was Brian "The Boz" Bosworth, and the movie is Stone Cold — the single greatest hour and 32 minutes of biker-gang, courthouse-siege, dummy-flying-through-glass action cinema you've never watched. We break down why this ex-NFL bust of a leading man somehow delivers, why Lance Henriksen makes everything better just by showing up, and why this might be the most purely entertaining B-action movie we've covered on the show.In this episode, we discuss:The Boz, Cinema's Greatest Accidental Action Hero – Brian Bosworth's mulleted, skunk-tail-jacketed debut shouldn't work, but somehow it does. We argue he's criminally underrated and nowhere near as bad as his post-NFL reputation suggests. The Worst Undercover Cops in Movie History – Bosworth and his partner blow their cover approximately every ten minutes, in broad daylight, with the subtlety of a marching band. We break down every hilariously botched sting operation. An Ending So Chaotic It Should Be Studied in Film School – A helicopter descending on a courthouse, Lance Henriksen dressed as a priest mowing down everyone in sight, and dummies flying through windows like it's an Olympic event. We dissect the most unhinged third act we've seen in ages.Explosions, Explosions, and More Explosions – This movie opens with an explosion and closes with an explosion, and in between it's just vibes and pyrotechnics. We talk about why practical stunt work and real dummies still hit different than any CGI ever could. We Also Talked About:Don't Panic (1987) (Amazon) – A Spanish-language Ouija board horror flick with a main character who won't stop wearing dinosaur pajamas.Night School (1981) (DailyMotion) – An early-'80s slasher featuring a kukri-wielding killer known as "The Lopper."Death Chase (1988) (Tubi) – Another David A. Prior joint about a regular guy turned reluctant assassin target.Kickboxer 2: The Road Back (1991) (Tubi) – Sasha Mitchell steps into JCVD's shoes for a sequel packed with absurdly brutal fight choreography.Ridiculous (Netflix) – Louis C.K.'s new Netflix stand-up special, and a conversation about where he stands today.Life, Larry, and the Pursuit of Unhappiness: An Almost History of America (Amazon) – Larry David's new HBO series reimagining American history, one uncomfortable sketch at a time. Some of the above links are affiliate links — if you purchase through them we get a small kickback, and it's the best way to support the show.New episodes of the Dewey Pod Monster podcast drop every week. Caller Questions & Discussion: Dr. Alice shares that she came from a family that did not meet her emotional needs. So with her spouse and children, she tells them that she needs to hear them say they love her. Whenever the people I'm in a relationship with did three things I didn't like, I'd ghost them. So it was three strikes, and they were out. But God spoke to me about how I'd feel if I was on the receiving end. I bought a home, but my neighbors are using Ouija boards and are hostile. If it happens again, I'll probably commit suicide. Why don't you open up in a word of prayer for each show? If I'm talking to someone, I'm going to pray to set the tone for the conversation. Do frequent visits to the cemetery prolong grief? How can I stop drinking? My husband died after 40 years of marriage. He was my compass, and I'm so lost. I feel like I need a personal assistant. Although my husband is still with me, over the past 26 years of his illness, I feel like I will never accept losing my love when the time does come. I feel stuck.

Two crossed pencils, a sheet of paper marked yes and no, and a name spoken twice — and by the time an Italian priest was called into a Calabrian primary school, the children had already asked Charlie their questions. | July 19, 2026==========HOUR ONE: Just because the Ouija board is made by a board game manufacturer does not mean it should be treated like a toy – as many have discovered. *** The similar game, Charlie Charlie seems more innocent – but is so dangerous that in one school where children were playing it, they had to call in an exorcist. *** And you never know when playing any of these types of games what kind of spirit you might be inviting into our realm – but I can tell you this…. It's never good. They might pretend to be good, but that's far from the truth. And one particular demon has found notoriety through the Ouija board community, a demon you don't want to risk opening a door for. It's name is Zozo.==========HOUR TWO: Did lost cosmonauts make it into space before Yuri Gagarin? (The Tombs in Space) *** Don't take a gift from Gracie Watson's grave... or her life-like statue might cry tears of blood. (Gracie's Ghost) *** Did Bonnie Scott run away? Was she kidnapped? Murdered perhaps? All anyone knew was that no one had a clue where she was. She had simply disappeared without a trace. (The Murder of Bonnie Leigh Scott) *** A latchkey kid comes home to an empty house… or so they thought until they heard footsteps in another room. (The Laundry Room)==========SUDDEN DEATH OVERTIME: People often encounter strange and frightening things when they experience sleep paralysis – but in one particular story, the horrors began well before going to bed. (Sleep Paralysis in Bangkok) *** Samuel Joselyn was buried in 1810 in a North Carolina cemetery. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear that Samuel was actually DEAD at the time of his burial! (Buried Alive in Wilmington) *** in 1894 Rosa Lochner was a witness to murder, but she had been deaf since birth and her spoken vocabulary was limited. So how could she testify against the accused? (Murder In Pantomime) *** A boy wakes to find his previously closed curtains now open – and the only explanation involves a previous resident of the house he's now living in. (Strange Manifestations) *** Mention the word “Chupacabra” and most people will think of a strange, hairless dog-like animal. They are never described as having the ability to fly… until now. (Winged Chupacabras) *** These UFOs aren't shiny metallic discs or cigar-shaped spaceships. They are humanoid – and they fly without the help of a jetpack, wings, cape or even a broom to sit on. And the sightings are still coming in all throughout Mexico. (The Flying Humanoids of Mexico) *** The North Carolina Cherokee have a story about how dangerous it can be even near a calm river – where the waters can suddenly foam and a giant beast can appear on the rocks. (James and the Giant Leech) *** Supernatural women, shadowy men, odd animal sightings, and more… they can all be found at late-night truck stops if you're not careful. Some people believe a Ouija board invites spirits into a home. Others believe it simply reveals what's already there. Years later, she still isn't sure which explanation fits what happened inside an old Amish house with a history no one bothered to tell the children about. What began as innocent curiosity quickly became something no one in the family expected. The experiences grew more unsettling, the fear became impossible to ignore, and eventually even her mother realized whatever was happening couldn't simply be dismissed as childhood imagination. To this day, one question has never gone away: did they accidentally invite something in... or had it been waiting for someone to notice it all along?#RealGhostStories #OuijaBoard #HauntedHouse #Paranormal #GhostStories #SpiritCommunication #Supernatural #Unexplained #DemonicEncounter #TrueParanorma Love real ghost stories? In today's episode of the Atheist Experience, Godless Engineer and Jim Barrows confront callers defending biblical morality, slavery, and genocide!Jeremy in MS claims God is not evil but struggles when confronted with 1 Samuel 15:3 commanding the killing of children and infants. He admits God said it, then deflects by asking if the hosts believe in Satan and oxygen before abruptly hanging up when challenged on his reasoning.Courtney and Rachel in FL call to defend biblical morality. The hosts read Exodus 21:7-11 on selling daughters into slavery and Leviticus 25:44-46 on buying slaves. Rachel shockingly states she would sell her daughter to a rich man, comparing it to Jeffrey Epstein. They claim slavery was acceptable back then and defend beating slaves while appearing intoxicated. Where does this moral framework lead?Glenn in Australia discusses his stepson's dream before dying, interpreting it as having spiritual significance. The hosts struggle to understand how this anecdotal experience proves God exists. Glenn mentions PTSD medication and modern slavery, but the conversation remains unfocused and unclear.Marko in Canada argues God is not evil and the Old Testament law has been replaced by grace. The hosts challenge him with Matthew 5:17-19 where Jesus says he came to fulfill, not abolish the law. Marko claims Paul supersedes Jesus. When confronted with Numbers 31:17-18 and Deuteronomy 21:10-14 about taking virgin war brides, he defends these passages and refuses to answer whether he would kill a baby if God commanded it.Papo in Puerto Rico presents a contingency argument claiming the universe needs a necessary being. The hosts counter that energy is necessary, citing E=mc² and the first law of thermodynamics. Papo claims the first law was created at the Big Bang but admits he doesn't know what E=mc² means while trying to argue physics.Jase in OH claims aliens are proof of God, describing beings around his bed who disappeared when he cried out to Jesus. He references UFO researcher Joe Jordan. The hosts ask for evidence beyond personal experience, noting hallucinations feel real to those experiencing them. Can subjective experience prove objective reality?William in MD argues Christians don't need to follow Old Testament law, citing Acts 15. The hosts counter with Matthew 5:17-19 and reference Leviticus 11 and Deuteronomy 14 restricting diets. They cite Galatians 3:29 showing Christians are Abraham's seed. William tries arguing different rules for different people but has to leave.Z in MA calls as a palette cleanser after intense previous calls. He shares his background with a Christian father and atheist mother, asks about agnostic versus atheist, and brings up Ouija boards as proof of energy or the afterlife. The hosts explain Ouija boards are manufactured by Hasbro and thank Z for his reasonable approach.Thank you for joining us this week! In 1917, a dead Mark Twain "wrote" a novel through a Ouija board — and the lawsuit that followed forced everyone to ask who really owns a book authored from the afterlife.EPISODE BLOG PAGE (includes sources): https://weirddarkness.com/ghostwritingREAD or DOWNLOAD the full transcript of this episode: https://weirddarkness.tiny.us/366f2snyFEATURED STORIES IN THIS EPISODE: Did Mark Twain write a new novel after he was dead? If so, how? *** Though David Parker Ray's girlfriend Cindy Hendy helped him commit numerous rapes and murders in the 1990s, she was released in 2019 and walks free today. *** Louis Le Prince vanished under mysterious circumstances, but did he willingly decide to hide from the outside world, or was he murdered? *** A man has a dream so disturbing that he's deeply affected by it well after he dreamt it. And the reason it stuck with him could be that it wasn't a dream after all – but a premonition of something horrible to come. *** Shortly after finishing her junior year of high school, Alissa Turner disappeared, never to be seen alive again. Her murder would've gone unsolved if not for the social media platform, TikTok. *** Humans have been fascinated with Mars ever since we learned it was a planet. But why are we so obsessed with it? Is it simply our next step towards deep-space travel, or are we drawn to it for a more basic reason… because our ancestors originated from there? *** There are many UFO sightings on record, but ones that are accompanied by missing time are particularly interesting. Perhaps not least as they might suggest something more akin to alien abduction than just a mere sighting. We'll look at one particular incident that took place in Nebraska in 1966.CHAPTERS & TIME STAMPS (All Times Approximate)…00:00:00.000 = Show Open00:02:26.278 = Do Copyright Laws Apply To Spirit Writing?00:13:54.317 = The Murder Solved Through TikTok ***00:19:27.188 = The Nebraska Time Affair00:35:44.438 = The Strange Dreams of Mr. Moir ***00:40:33.850 = Did Our Ancestors Live On Mars?00:52:06.275 = The Toy Box Killer's Girlfriend ***01:01:04.695 = The Strange Disappearance of Louis Le Prince01:06:58.396 = Show Close*** = Begins immediately after inserted ad breakLISTEN ON PODCAST APPS: Look for this podcast on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, iHeart Radio, Amazon Music, Pandora, TuneIn Radio, and other podcast apps. Copyright ©2026, Weird Darkness.Originally aired: December, 2022This episode of Weird Darkness moves through posthumous authorship, serial murder, a vanished film pioneer, a TikTok-cracked cold case, alien abduction, Martian origins, and a premonition dug out of the ground. It opens in 1990s New Mexico, where Cindy Hendy helped David Parker Ray abduct, rape, and torture as many as sixty women inside the trailer he called his "Toy Box," a space fitted with ceiling mirrors that forced victims to watch their own suffering. Hendy tracked down targets and stood by while Ray tormented them with electric shocks and medical instruments, until Cynthia Vigil escaped on March 22, 1999, running naked into traffic in Elephant Butte with a dog collar around her neck after stabbing Hendy in the neck with an icepick. Sentenced in 2000 to thirty-six years, Hendy was released on July 15, 2019, because her plea deal predated a law requiring violent offenders to serve eighty-five percent of their terms, and she walks free today. From there the episode crosses to France and the case of Louis Le Prince, born in Metz in 1841 and credited as the forgotten father of motion pictures for building a sixteen-lens camera in 1888. He boarded a train from Dijon to Paris on September 16, 1890, waved off by his brother, and was gone when the train arrived, luggage and all. Thomas Edison spent years asserting sole ownership of cinematography, and Le Prince's son Adolphe, who testified against him, was found shot dead on Fire Island in 1902; a diary entry attributed to Edison and dated September 20, 1890, reportedly records that a man named Eric called from Dijon to say "Prince is no more."Next comes the disappearance of Alissa Turney, a Phoenix teenager last seen on May 17, 2001, after finishing her junior year and arguing with her stepfather, Michael Turney, who claimed she ran away to California. A 2008 search of his home turned up twenty-six homemade explosive devices and a ninety-eight-page manifesto, and he served time on federal bomb charges before his release in 2017. Alissa's younger sister, Sarah Turney, built a TikTok following past one million people around the hashtag campaign for her sister, and in August 2020 Michael Turney was charged with the murder. The episode then turns to a lonely road outside Columbus, Nebraska, on September 5, 1966, where a seventeen-year-old riding his motorcycle to meet his girlfriend's parents saw a completely circular object hovering roughly a hundred feet overhead, ringed with green, red, and yellow lights and emitting a low hum he felt resonate through his body. His engine raged and his wheels spun, but the bike held frozen in place; a five-minute trip took over thirty minutes, and he could never account for the missing time. The same night, radar at Finland Air Force Station in Minnesota tracked an oval craft with the same colored underside, prompting two F-89 jets to scramble from Duluth before it vanished. The Mars segment follows, examining why NASA, SpaceX, and Elon Musk remain fixed on a cold desert planet, and the fringe claim that human life may have originated there billions of years ago before Mars lost its magnetic field and its atmosphere was stripped away by solar wind. The piece leans on the detail that astronauts in space drift toward a 24.9-hour circadian rhythm matching the Martian day, and cites Haim Eshed, former head of Israel's space program, who claimed a secret underground base on Mars where American astronauts and aliens work together, alongside NASA scientist Jim Green's proposal to shield the planet with an artificial magnetic field placed at the Sun-Mars L1 point.Mark Twain surfaces next, seven years after Samuel Clemens died in 1910, when a novel called "The Coming of Jap Herron" appeared in 1917, purportedly dictated by his spirit through a Ouija board to Emily Grant Hutchings and Lola V. Hays. Hutchings, a Hannibal-born writer who had corresponded with Twain in life, had earlier channeled a supposed seventeenth-century spirit named Patience Worth, and psychical researcher James Hyslop tested the Twain claim by asking the ghost to relay the line "Hyslop is a cabbage head," a message that never arrived. Because Harper and Brothers held exclusive rights to Twain's work, his daughter Clara Clemens moved to block publication, and the resulting suit against publisher Mitchell Kennerley ended with every copy pulled from shelves. The episode closes in June 1870 near Boyndie, Scotland, where farm bailiff William Moir dreamed of a bloodied corpse lying on sloping ground near the shore, and weeks later helped carry a drowned asylum inmate over that exact spot, watching blood appear on the dead man's face when the body slipped from its board. The vision returned relentlessly through 1871 until, in January 1872, Moir took a spade to a place called Stakeness and unearthed a human skull and skeleton estimated to be at least fifty years old, in ground where villagers recalled a man named Elder had vanished decades earlier, reportedly murdered in the very room where Moir later slept. The discovery did not free him; he sank into a religious depression and died in October 1873.
