We're Dhvani and Deepti, just 2 third-culture girls in their mid-20s that are feeding their curiosity by experiencing life, exploring the world and sharing those stories. Oh, and we also share other people's stories too...anonymously, ofcourse.
The way people give and receive love can confuse and ruin the relationships we have with people. Dr. Gary Chapman released a book and then an online quiz where people can find out what their primary love language is and how they can work on improving relationships because you're able to understand yourself and other people better. We discuss taking the quiz and the results that were drawn from answering the questions. Listen in to find out if the categories and our levels in the 5 love languages align based on reality and realisations that come with it! You can take the test yourself here: https://www.5lovelanguages.com/
We begin the episode by thanking all our listeners for dealing with our constant laughing and making it on some of your top 2020 Spotify Wrapped Podcasts! But, today, we're finally back (yet again) and talk about guilty pleasures. Guilty pleasures are usually things that people are embarrassed about. We discuss how this shouldn't be the case and that guilty pleasures can also be something you do/music you listen to/tv shows or movies you watch to give you some comfort on a rough day! Unless...it comes to sharing a jar of Nutella. Listen in to understand how we got the title for this week's episode!
In this episode, we discuss having confidence or not being as confident as people around us perceive us to be. We are joined by Sam Shain an avid traveller (just like us YAY!) and being raised multi-cultural. Where does our confidence come from?
The two of us LOVEEEE coffee, and yes sometimes we drink too much of it. In this episode, we refer to the Daily Mail article (link at the end of description) about the ex-McCafé barista and what he thinks on where coffees rank on his scale from God Tier to Cat Vomit Tier! Then, we change a few things on the rankings and place the different types of coffee drinks based on the preferences of some of the people we've asked and our own. We discuss the roles coffee play in our two different Indian cultures, our best coffee experiences and also the coffee we think would be a waste of time to prep (sorry not sorry)! Let us know if you agree with our coffee rankings and what your experiences are. WE'RE BACK!! We took a little break as we needed to deal with a few things life threw at us. In this episode, we address the elephant in the room of how the pandemic has affected not only our lives but everyone else in the world too. We discuss the uncertainty of the times and the positives and negatives that came out of quarantine and lockdowns. We understand that we can't cover everyone's emotions during this difficult time, but we talk about some ways that can (maybe) help you! BUT, if you need someone to talk to, just feel free to hit us up with a message on our Instagram (@outofwonderpodcast).
Erica is a Black-American school teacher in South Korea. Amazing, right? We discuss her motivations to get the job she has today, her journey to getting there and encounters of racism as a Black-woman in Asia and even in America. Her boss-woman and self-aware personality has led to her having a short-story published in a book called "Black in Asia: A Spill Stories Anthology" that reflects on her experience and feelings of living in Korea. You can find the book on Amazon by Spill Stories, so go check it out!!
Coming from last week's episode about judging people, we realised that friends judge your decisions and choices and that can cause fallouts/friend break-ups. The girls are joined by Dhvani's high-school best-friend, Naomi Khaled - who she drifted from when they got to university and Naomi recently reached out to rekindle the friendship. Dhvani and Deepti too fell-out when they were younger too. Lives happen and things change. We discuss what causes friends to fall out - from arguments, to drifting apart to jealousy - and whether it's worth reaching out to fix things or not!
This week we talk about judging people for their actions and thoughts that they make very clear. But, aren't we judging them for judging us or other people too? JUDGE-CEPTION! We discuss times our friends have judged and felt a certain way towards someone they've come across. We also talk about times we have judged people for doing or acting some way, even though we're not really people that judge a lot. I mean, we're only human.
We have both been raised in Oman our whole lives and we saw it fitting that the second part of The Heritage Series should include an interview with an Omani friend of ours, Alya Abdulkarim. Alya is a free-spirited, open-minded and loving woman with lots of engrossing stories to tell, that you would not expect! We discuss being raised in the Omani culture, living and learning from it and how Alya's family's have raised her to be the person she is today. So, tune in for a roller-coaster of engrossing stories from Alya's family's past!
Our last episode about passions and what our parents wanted for us growing up got us questioning and made us want to explore our cultures and family's past. We decided to start the heritage series, where you learn more about the hosts, where our families come from, some culture, traditions and values we inherited from our forefathers despite living outside our country of origin, India. The next few parts in the series will include conversations with our friends from cultures either similar or different from Dhvani's and Deepti's. The series will talk about identities and if we even can put ourselves in particular boxes.
Growing up, most of us had career aspirations for ourselves when we were younger. We talk about people's passions and what they wanted to be when they grew up. We quickly discuss how childrens' ambitions of this day and age differ from those back in the 90s. The hosts learn more about each other's childhood career dreams and what our parents wanted for us!
This week we discuss general and irrational fears and how they vary from person to person. We also briefly mention fears celebrities like Oprah, Marilyn Monroe and Beyoncé have. The fears that other people we know have fill the whole spectrum; from deep to light and common to weird ones. As always, we talk about some of our personal experienced that made us laugh really hard and we think you'll enjoy them too!
This episode is about the embarrassing aspects of life and anecdotes to go with it. We talk about situations, or triggers, which cause people to be embarrassed. The stories of embarrassment from people in our lives will give you a good laugh and an insight into what our future episodes will entail! Here's our first go at starting our very own podcast! Get to know about the hosts, Dhvani and Deepti. We talk about how we came up with our theme and what encouraged us to start our own podcast!
