Mitski is both a person and a band based out of Brooklyn, NY. Classically trained at the Conservatory of Music at SUNY Purchase, Mitksi is now signed to Don Giovanni Records. I visited her at her apartment in Queens before SXSW, and we talked about moving while growing up, having conflicts with the local music scene and the expectations of both writers and fans. Featured songs (in order) are: “Townie” “First Love / Late Spring” Both by Mitski. For more information on this week’s guest go to mitksi.com or dongiovannirecords.com. Advance Base is Owen Ashworth, a Chicago-based musician formerly known as Casiotone for the Painfully Alone. Owen has been active since 1997 and was fixture of the Tomlab label until he started his own Orindal Records. Owen and I sat down in the basement of Silent Barn this past February and discussed getting started, losing hearing, literary influences and all the companions Owen has gathered over the years.
