Bryan calls the ruling pure political activism that harms the very communities it claims to protect. Texas Redistricting and California Citizenship Rush: A federal court struck down Texas's new GOP drawn congressional map. In California, migrants rushed to obtain citizenship before a harder civics test took effect, a change Trump implemented to restore basic knowledge of American history and law. Foreign Nationals Driving Trucks and Spreading Risk: DHS arrested an Uzbek national living in Pennsylvania who obtained a commercial driver's license despite ties to jihadist recruitment. Bryan warns that thousands of foreign drivers, many without proper vetting, may be transporting hazardous materials across the country. OPT Program Exposes American Graduates: Senator Eric Schmitt highlighted a federal program called Optional Practical Training that allows foreign graduates to work for three years without payroll taxes, making them cheaper to hire than American college students. Bryan says the program, along with H-1B visas, is shutting young Americans out of the workforce. Good News on Food and Science: China appears to have resumed large soybean purchases from U.S. farmers, and dairy ranchers are increasing beef production with new cross bred calves. In the years since it launched the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Russia has subjected thousands of Ukrainian civilians to tortuous treatment in prison camps across the occupied territories. In this season premiere of the U.S. Helsinki Commission's podcast "The Transatlantic" Russian human rights activist Evgenia Chirikova discusses her experience searching for answers about what happens to those Ukrainians trapped in this system of terror and outlines the type of accountability she believes is necessary to bring the perpetrators of this abuse to justice. Evgeniya is the co-founder of the organization Support Net, which supports civil activism in Russia, helps Russian activists who face repression, and supports Ukrainian war refugees. Since 2024, she has investigated Russia's systems of terror in the occupied territory of Ukraine and cases of Ukrainian civilian prisoners. On July 1, 2025, she premiered her film, "System of Terror" in the European Parliament. For her active support of Ukraine in resisting the Russian occupation, she has faced five criminal cases in Russia on charges of "terrorism," has been arrested in absentia in Russia twice, was included on Russia's list of "terrorists and extremists," and was recognized by the Russian Federation as a "foreign agent." She has also served as a project coordinator, investigator, and journalist at the Open Estonia Foundation, and written articles for the Washington Post, La Tribune, de Volkskrant, the Atlantic Council, Postimees, and Activatica. Among other awards, she is a recipient of the James Lawson Award, Goldman Environmental Prize, and the Woman of Courage Award, presented to her by then-Vice President Joe Biden. She is a graduate of the Russian Academy of Economy and State Service and Moscow State Aeronautical University. In May of 2023, Crystal was sitting at a traffic light, near a well-known landmark in Pennsylvania, when she had a Sasquatch sighting. The landmark is called Horseshoe Curve. Horseshoe Curve is a winding series of curves, bridges, and tunnels that a railroad track winds through and over, near Altoona, Pennsylvania. This episode is the personal testimony of Micah, a 42-year-old former Jehovah's Witness, detailing his life within the organization, his subsequent departure, and his journey toward recovery and self-redefinition. Born into the religion to parents with significant personal trauma, Micah's childhood was defined by a "constant white knuckle paralytic terror" of Armageddon. His life was marked by a series of compounding traumas, including the death of his father at age 13, a profound lack of emotional support from his family and congregation, and severe mental health struggles leading to multiple suicide attempts. Micah's narrative illustrates a cyclical pattern of rejection, self-destructive behavior, and attempts to conform to the group's expectations, resulting in two instances of being disfellowshipped. He describes feeling like a "non-entity," with his authentic self—expressed through writing, art, and comedy—consistently suppressed. The breaking point came during the COVID-19 pandemic, which, coupled with escalating substance abuse and a final confrontation with an elder, led to his arrest, incarceration, and subsequent homelessness. His recovery began in a halfway house where he identified the recovery program, Alcoholics Anonymous, as another high-control group with cult-like tactics. This realization prompted a period of intense deconstruction, where he researched cult dynamics and logical fallacies, leading to the definitive conclusion that he was raised in a cult. By reclaiming his identity through his lifelong passion for writing, Micah published a series of books, starting with his memoir Mentally Diseased. This creative process was the catalyst for rebuilding his life, paying off debt, establishing a new community, and finding a sense of empowerment. His story is a powerful account of the damaging effects of high-control groups and the potential for profound personal transformation through authentic self-expression.
