She is now pursuing her undergraduate degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering. She has been very active within the STEM community for the past four years, especially within her school. She served as the Idaho State Secretary for the Technology Student Association (TSA), a student-led STEM CTSO. In her free time, she loves to read and paint.
Legendary director, Penelope Spheeris and her daughter/ business partner, Anna Fox are my guests for episode 407! You might know Penelope from the big Hollywood movies like "Wayne's World" and "Black Sheep", but you might also know her from her "Decline of Western Civilization" parts 1-3 documentaries. I came up watching part 1: The Punk Years and Part 2: The Metal Years and loved them. We have a great phone conversation where we find out what happened to the bands, Odin and London from part 2: The Metal Years, why Paul Stanley was in bed with three girls during his interview and much more.

The Woman in the Window is a psychological thriller that plays with the perception of the audience. There is a crime to solve and the protagonist, Anna Fox, is an unreliable narrator. Although Fox is incapable of fundamental functions in the world, she is still a child psychologist who can sniff out trauma. She just happens to be surrounded by her own cloud of darkness. Newly adapted into a film streaming on Netflix, this book is maintaining a fair level of attention. Readers generally enjoy the book, and some are even able to guess the twist at the end. Listen to this review to bolster your interpretation of A. J. Finn's work. Side note: I am very thankful for those that listen. May you have a wonderful holiday season! Born in 1961 and completing her degree in Audio Visual studies at The Surrey Institute, Farnham in 1986, Anna Fox began her career as a documentary photographer. Influenced by the British documentary tradition and the USA's ‘New Colourists', she chronicled new town life in Basingstoke (locally known as ‘Doughnut City') and went on to publish the monograph Work Stations (1988), a study of London Office life in Thatcher's Britain. These works were exhibited extensively as far a field as Brazil and Estonia and in Through the Looking Glass, at the Barbican Art Gallery in 1989 curated by David Mellor and Ian Jeffrey, establishing Anna as a significant figure within the field of new colour documentary. In later projects, made in the 1990's, In Pursuit (1990), The Village (1991-1992 Cross Channel Photographic Mission commission), Friendly Fire (1992) and Zwarte Piet (the Netherlands 1994-1999) Anna created a new direction inventing innovative approaches and raising questions regarding the problems of documentary practice. These projects were exhibited in a number of solo exhibitions including The Photographers Gallery, London and The Museum of Contemporary Photography, Chicago.By early 2000 Anna produced two autobiographical works: Cockroach Diary and My Mothers Cupboards and my Father's Words which completely turned on its head the notion of the documentary photographer as outsider. These new works investigated the personal and difficult world of domestic households and relationships bringing together a mix of image and text in two miniature book works. Later in 2003 the series Made in Europe questioned further the power relation between subject and photographer by handing over power to the subject in whork that portrayed a vision of contemporary Europe through the eyes and voices of teenagers. The projects Country Girls (1996-2001) and Pictures of Linda (1983-ongoing) introduced a collaborative element to Anna's practice: by working in partnership with the singer/songwriters Alison Goldfrapp and Linda Lunus the relationship between subject and photographer was being explored from a new perspective.Anna was shortlisted for the 2010 Deutsche Borse Photography Prize and the 2012 Pilar Citoler Prize. Her later projects, Resort 1 and Resort 2 are published by Shilt, Amsterdam, Loisirs is published by Diaphane and an new book, BLINK, will be published by Central St Martins.Anna is Professor of Photography at the University for the Creative Arts in Farnham and leads the Fast Forward Women in Photography research project. On episode 166, Anna discusses, among other things:Reflections on the past 18 monthsWhat she's been working on during that periodHaving a lot of ideasMoving away from a ‘project based mentaility'The influences of people who taught her: Graham, Parr and KnorrThe exploration of the every day41 Hewitt Road and the transition to focusing on domestic photographyHer use of text in conjunction with imagesMoving to and working in an English country villageHer project Zwarte PietMy Mothers Cupboards and my Father's WordsFast Forward Women in Photography Referenced:John DillwynMary DillwynPaul ReasPaul SearightAnthony HaugheyTessa BunneyDavid MoorePaul GrahamMartin ParrKaren KnorVal WilliamsJane AustenGilbert WhiteWilliam CobbettRaymond WilliamsMieke BalMark Sealy - AutographNaomi Rosenblaum Website | Instagram | Facebook“It's the discovery of the personal voice, I suppose, and the personal stories that you want to tell, that you can't articulate. a Dra.

Living in denial, the depressed, pill-popping child psychologist, Anna Fox, has holed herself up in her eerily vacant, ill-lit Manhattan brownstone apartment for the past ten long months, separated from her husband and their eight-year-old daughter. While unsuccessfully grappling with agoraphobia and intense panic attacks, suddenly, the Russells move in across the street, and brimming with curiosity, Anna decides to distract attention away from her problems by peeking into the lives of the unsuspecting new tenants. Then, one night, tensions flare, a deadly kitchen knife gleams in the dim light, and before long, someone ends up dead. Anna Fox and Louisa Rorschach are two writers in their early 30s who just cannot get their dating lives in order. In preparation for when romance is real again (#ThanksPandemic), they turn to a leader in the field for help -- number one best selling author Danielle Steel. Combining literary review, social commentary, dating advice, and astrology, Anna and Louisa discuss Steel’s romance novels with cultured wit and Millennial irreverence. Season One: Now and Forever (1978). "Although Jessica and Ian Clarke have been married seven years, they insist the thrill and excitement haven’t dimmed. At Jessica’s urging, Ian has quit his advertising job to become a struggling writer, and she supports him with her successful San Francisco boutique. Ian’s financial dependence on Jessica upsets him more than he admits, and in a moment of bored malaise, Ian’s first casual indiscretion will create a nightmare that threatens everything Jessica and Ian have carefully built. What he does changes their lives, and them, perhaps forever, as they struggle to pay the price of his foolhardy affair." [Music Credit: "Stringed Disco" by Kevin McLeod (incompetech.com). Anna Fox's father died at a young age. Her experience with the doctors who cared for him was disappointing at best, so when it came to dealing with her own health problems she took the holistic route - and with good results. When life became difficult and stressful, Anna escaped through writing - her favorite creative and therapeutic outlet. She is now the author of Another Place in Time - a romantic suspense fantasy that takes place in the spirit realm. The book is a great read - and this will be a fun episode, so join us live or watch the recording at your convenience. After all, who doesn't want to go to another place in time right now?

SPOILERS AHEAD! "It isn't paranoia if it's really happening . . . "Anna Fox lives alone—a recluse in her New York City home, unable to venture outside. She spends her day drinking wine (maybe too much), watching old movies, recalling happier times . . . and spying on her neighbors. "Then the Russells move into the house across the way: a father, a mother, their teenage son. The perfect family. But when Anna, gazing out her window one night, sees something she shouldn't, her world begins to crumble—and its shocking secrets are laid bare. "What is real? What is imagined? Who is in danger? Who is in control? In this diabolically gripping thriller, no one—and nothing—is what it seems." Hey listeners! This month we read Woman in the Window written by AJ Finn (although that is somewhat debatable). In any case, this was a good story and we had a lot of interesting cases associated with it! Enjoy! It’s quite an accomplishment to write a psychological thriller these days. We’re so sophisticated, so jaded by edgy crime in fiction and movies, not to mention real life, that we’re suspicious when we’re told a new book‘s come along that’s a nail-biting page turner. Cynics that we are, we also tend to think that best-seller suspense tales must be contrived. But what debut novelist A. J. Finn does with “The Woman in the Window” is remarkable. He’s created a breathless, stunning twist-and-turn plot that cleverly relies on familiar scenarios, most of the Hitchcock kind, and builds the Hitchcock references into his own story. His narrator, Dr. Anna Fox, is an agoraphobic shut-in Rear Window, Gone Girl, Girl on a Train thirty-something. An intelligent woman, a psychologist who’s had a breakdown, she’s separated from her husband and young daughter, though she talks to them regularly, and medicates herself. A lot – with Merlot and pills. Together. She passes time watching – and critiquing –

Meet critically acclaimed Hollywood director ("Wayne's World," "Suburbia"), Penelope Spheeris. She talks about resurrecting her raw and real look at the '80s punk scene in her 3-part docu-series "The Decline of Western Civilization." The first movie was filmed starting in the late '70s and the third installment (which has never been commercially released until now) was filmed in the early '90s. This just released box set includes all 3 films, plus lots of bonus material (including commentary by Dave Grohl) and is a gem of music history. Penelope's daughter, Anna Fox, spearheaded the project and you'll hear from both of them about the emotional obstacles, the struggle with outdated technology, and a few happy surprises in bringing this boxed set to life.
