We are Prickly Pear Collective - a faith-based, trauma-informed collective at the intersections of community + church + therapy. Bringing people together to move toward healing.
Today we are talking with our friend Jocelyn who is a Grief Recovery Specialist and Trainer with the Grief Recovery Institute, which offers the evidence-based Grief Recovery Method as an approach for healing from losses. Jocelyn shares with us wisdom, expertise, and her own personal experiences related to loss, grief, misconceptions about grieving, harmful spiritual bypassing, and how unresolved pain shows up in our lives. Our worlds were rocked and we think yours will be too.
In light of all that is happening in our world, we wanted to take some time to do a check-in to acknowledge how we've been impacted and also discuss some PPC survival skills. Join us as we address how we're continuing to pursue health in each of the three intersections - community, church, and therapy.
Our Prickly Stories series continues. We're so excited for you to meet and hear from our friend Monica Wertz. Monica has a powerful story of overcoming addiction (and many other things). Monica is a bold truth-teller who does not hold back in sharing the nitty gritty, raw, and unedited version of her life and how God brought healing to the most painful places. Her experience in recovery and as a career coach has yielded much wisdom, which she graciously shares with us in this episode and will share with us in person at our next virtual meetup. Get ready to be blown away!
Join us as we launch a new series of Prickly Stories! Prickly stories are stories of overcoming great adversity, pain, grief, addiction, and trauma. These stories echo what our Mannifesto says: "Our experiences have become our war cry. A strong conviction that lives can be transformed, mistakes and even hell on earth doesn't have to kill us, and healing from the darkest of days is possible." These are stories of hope - reminding us that God is with us and moving us toward healing. This episode features guest Jason Millwood who shares about his story of overcoming addiction and finding God at his rock bottom.
We've been inspired by our recent meetup conversations. Collectively, we've come to understand that there's no better time than now to lean into our calling to be the leaders, the Church, and the change that we want to see. Join us as dive deeper into how we are individually and collectively moving forward with changing things and leading ish!
What is trauma-informed leadership? What does it look like for spiritual leaders to be trauma-informed? Why is this important? Join us as we dive into these questions.
In this episode, we talk about the importance of healthy community in our healing and faith journeys. We also touch on unhealthy community models such as codependent/enmeshed community, surface-level community, and formulaic community that we can sometimes fall into. Join us as we attempt to figure out what healthy community looks like.
In this episode, we seek to demystify the intersection of therapy + church and explore why normalizing inner, therapeutic work as components of our regular spiritual practice is important on both an individual and corporate level.
COVID-19 has significantly changed the way we engage with church. In this episode, we talk about redefining authentic community and we ask lots of questions that we don't have answers to. Join us in the messiness as we try to figure church out.
We are Prickly Pear Collective - a faith-based, trauma-informed collective at the intersections of community + church + therapy. Bringing people together to move toward healing. In this first episode, we share the origin story of PPC - how we came together, a bit about our personal backgrounds, and why we care so much about these intersections.
