Wait a minute - I just wrote that same post.That’s the book I was going to write. Why does her work get so much attention? Why should I keep going when there are so many other women doing it better? These are ugly, uncomfortable feelings. We don’t want to allow ourselves to experience them, let alone admit that they are a part of us. But ignoring them doesn’t do us any good. We all know that Jesus commended the widow for putting her last 2 coins into the offering. Isn’t that what we’re called to do as well? Or is there something to be said for knowing our limits, for recognizing when our cup is empty and taking the time we need to recharge? How do we know know if what we’re facing is burnout, or if we’re called to give from our places of poverty? How do we use our gifts well when we feel so overwhelmed?

It can be so tempting to numb ourselves with noise, to scroll or binge Netflix or do anything at all to avoid the inner silence that allows our real feelings of loneliness, anxiety, or deep sorrow to rise to the surface. We know Jesus isn’t magic.
