Recorded live on January 10, 2016, our guest is TED Talk veteran Robert Wright, the best-selling author of "Nonzero," "The Moral Animal" and "The Evolution of God." Wright speaks on"The Meaning of Evil: A Modern Secular Interpretation of an Ancient Religious Idea. ISIS, Hitler, and Hannibal Lecter have all been called “evil.” But can we in a modern scientific age take that word seriously, given the traditional identification of evil as a “force” or a kind of “spirit”? Wright offers a new conception of evil and suggests ways to counter it. This month's emcee is Hester Wagner. Musicians Rich Thomas, Roberto Hernandez, and Caroline Clark lead the assembly in four pop songs. Amy Baldwin reads a poem by Billy Collins and Laura Green Does Her Best.
