New York Football talk from the Average Fans Point of View.
Week 17 left with no shortage of topics to discuss. The Eagles real time tank job did cost the Giants a chance at the playoffs but I hope that serves a reminder in 2021 to take care of your own business and not have to rely on a terrible god awful, going nowhere franchise to help you out, especially when you are only a 6 win team. Giants should use the 11th pick to their advantage and lets win the division properly in 2021. The Jets fans on the other hand got what they asked for and now its on Joe Douglas' shoulders to use all the draft picks and Cap space to turn this franchise around in the right direction.
Lets be honest here there is really only one topic to talk about this week. The Jets finally get that elusive first win of the year but is it possible this win set the franchise back 10-15 years?
The Giants could not recreate the magic from the prior week when they stunned Seattle. Daniel Jones was clearly not 100% and now the Giants are in a fight for the NFC East. The Jets are just trying to get to the end of the season with a 3 point punt fest against the Seahawks and are in the drivers seat for the #1 overall pick. There was also a Geno Smith sighting.
The odds were completely stacked against the Giants especially with no Daniel Jones under center, how would they score enough points? How would they contain Metcalf or Lockett? Well to our surprise the Giants had a total team effort and pulled off on of the biggest upsets and had the biggest win in the last 3 years. The Jets on the other hand continue to amaze us with new ways to lose. Was this on purpose and Gregg Williams has to fall on the sword? We go over it all.
Just when things were starting to turn in the right direction for the NY Giants, Danny Dimes hammy had something to say about that. Giants won the game against Cincy buy lost another huge piece to their chances of winning the division. Lets all hope this is only a one week absence. The Jets on the other hand, another week another loss and have no winable games left on the schedule.
With the Giants on their Bye week it allowed a few more NFC East teams to catch up in the win column, but with a golden opportunity against a Joe Burrow-less Bengals team this week we expect this winning streak to continue, and on the other side of the stadium the Jets put up a fight but in the end its clearly all about not losing that #1 pick in April 2021.
The last few week have shown that the Giants are trending in the right direction and have a real shot of winning the terrible NFC East, but playoffs are playoffs right? Jets lost a close one to the Pats and were on a bye last week, this week they have to deal with Justin Herbert and the Chargers.
The Giants are showing signs of improvement here and there but its not resulting in wins. Up next is a MNF date against TB12. The Jets held Buffalo out of the end zone all game but it wasnt enough as they were beaten by 6 field goals. Will the Jets cover the 19 point spread against KC? We cover it all this week.
Of course there are no easy wins and it took a last play 2 point conversion stopping stance by the defense to get there but the Giants are finally in the win column, and are one game out of first place? The Jets on the other hand at least showed up to the game in their uniforms. What more is it going to take to get a coaching change around here?
Well it finally happened, LeVeon Bell is was released this week which seems to be what Adam Gase wanted all along. The Giants on the other hand finally found some fight in them and are inching so close to putting a complete game together and getting in the win column.
After some technical difficulties the past few weeks, we are back to talking about two teams that still don't have a win between them, but is there promise or false hope after week 4?
The first week of the 2020 season is in the books and it looks the same for the Jets and Giants as it did when we left off in 2019. Was it a lack of preseason, lack of preparation, or lack of coaching? We talk about it all and give out outlook for week #2
