Yes, it was against a terrible Jacksonville team, but the Hawks still looked improved as they crushed the Jags. Let's hope this is the first step to getting things figured out. One noticeable change was an increased number of targets to DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett. Geno Smith talked with Ian after the game about the renewed emphasis. The Mariners have opted to decline his 2022 option. We knew he was done, but some are unhappy about the way it went down. Hugh Millen takes an in-depth look at yesterday's Hawks win on Hardcore Football.

In today's episode of Hooked on Sports: The 2021 World Series between the Houston Astros and Atlanta Braves is nearing it's climax. With the Braves holding a three games to two advantage going into Game 6 in Houston on Tuesday, can the Braves hang on to win their first world championship in 26 years, or can the Astros overcome a 3-1 series deficit and win? (02:07) John recaps the shocking results from yesterday's action around the NFL, including the four backup quarterbacks that won games, with Mike White & the New York Jets taking down the Bengals, Geno Smith and the Seahawks bouncing back to beat the Jaguars, Trevor Simeian coming in relief of Jameis Winston (who tore his ACL) to beat the defending champion Buccaneers, and Cooper Rush filling in for Dak Prescott to lead to the Dallas Cowboys to a last minute victory over the Vikings in primetime (12:36), the breaking news that broke during recording that the Los Angeles Rams acquired superstar defensive lineman Von Miller from the Denver Broncos (20:51), who John would like to see get moved ahead of Tuesday's trade deadline (23:00), and the injury to Derrick Henry (26:30). Then, John discusses how the College Football Playoff race is down to 12 teams and all the potential scenarios for the committee to come up with the four teams (29:55), why the Chicago Blackhawks sexual abuse scandal is such a painful moment for the NHL (39:55), why the Knicks and Bulls both starting 5-1 is significant and a great thing for the NBA (44:48), and why he loves the Padres hiring Bob Melvin to be the team's manager and not the Cardinals hiring Oliver Marmol (48:11).
Rich recaps the Seahawks, Jets, and Saints getting big Week 8 wins from their backup quarterbacks Geno Smith, Mike White, and Trevor Siemian, and the Dallas Cowboys getting a key road victory under Cooper Rush with Dak Prescott sidelined by a calf injury. Rich and the guys react to the breaking news that the Denver Broncos are sending All-Pro linebacker Von Miller to the Los Angeles Rams who solidify their ‘Super Bowl or Bust' mindset with the blockbuster trade. The Seahawks nearly shut out the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday as the defense allowed just one touchdown late in the fourth quarter. Travis Homer and the special teams unit made the Jags pay for their onside kick attempt by scooping it off the ground and taking it in for the touchdown. Geno Smith got his first win as a starter and got a majority of his yards throwing to Tyler Lockett, who he worked with a lot after practice this week and it paid off. Conor and Jenny are here to take you through a bewitching Week 8 in the NFL. We start with the big upset in New Orleans, where the Saints haunted Tom Brady to take down the defending champs, even after losing Jameis Winston early in the game to a knee injury. Then, we discuss the thrilling wins for the other back-up QBs: Cooper Rush leading the Cowboys over the Vikings on Sunday Night Football, the Jets' Mike White throwing for 400 yards against the Bengals and Geno Smith notching his first W as a starter for the Seahawks. The Patriots and the Steelers also deliver big wins for their proud franchises in what is a frighteningly wide-open AFC. Plus, Jimmy G scares away his critics, the Titans have a death-grip on the AFC South and the ghoulish blowout losses brought to us by the worst rosters in the NFL. All in a Halloween's work. Will Dissly talks about what it means to have former players and coaches on the opposing sideline this week. Ethan Pocic is expected to play this week, but we don't know how much. Geno Smith was asked about his thoughts on the potential on working with two different centers. With the Seahawks playing the Jaguars, it takes us back to a time within the multiverse that JAG was one of the biggest shows on television. What do JAGs do? They get to the truth (even if some people think we can't handle it). It's tell the truth Saturday ahead of this Sunday's game in Seattle and sometimes the truth hurts. However, there are some positives to consider. What if the Seahawks defense has found its way in stopping the opponents on the ground? Where can they focus next? Jacksonville has been turning over the football a lot this season, which could give Seattle an opportunity to play more aggressive. Will they take it, or will they continue to show a lack of faith in Geno Smith even against one of the league's worst defenses by DVOA? The Seahawks are now 0-3 at home to start the season following a 13-10 loss to the New Orleans Saints. The Seahawks defense managed to shut down the Saints run game, but they weren't able to stop Alvin Kamara who led the team with 128 receiving yards. The Seahawks got out to an early lead thanks to a DK Metcalf 84-yard touchdown, but the offense didn't do much after that. After the game Pete Carroll referenced the missed field goals, Geno Smith talked about the inability to capitalize off a timely turnover, and Ugo Amadi and Jordyn Brooks talked about what the team needs to do next. Monday Night Football: Last night's contest between the Saints and Seahawks was rather disappointing. With Seattle having Geno Smith under center, the Seahawks couldn't get much done through the air. Alvin Kamara is the Saints offense, without him, they don't score. Tom Brady: Byron Kennedy is the fan who got Tom Brady's milestone football, but was asked to give it back??? What compensations did Brady and the Buccs Organization give to this fan for giving up a One-And-Only football. Philadelphia Eagles: Trades for veteran QB Joe Flacco for conditional 6th round pick. Deshaun Watson: Where is Deshaun going to end up? He has a no-trade clause in his contract, but with Houston not wanting him, where can we see this franchise QB ending up? Carolina? Maybe Miami?

Pete Carroll was candid in his assessment heading in this game when he finished one of his quotes by saying, "we need this one." Our exclusive pregame conversation with Pete Carroll and the Voice of the Seahawks, Steve Raible. Dave and Bob react to the updates that Carroll gives on some of the injured Seahawks, plus what to expect from Geno Smith in his second start. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
In the Seahawks first loss with Geno Smith as the starter, Pete Carroll showed us early on in the game against the Steelers that he was not ready to take more risks. But now that the Seahawks are 2-4 on the season, and in desperate need to win back-to-back games heading into the bye week, more risk is necessary to keep the team alive in the playoff hunt. In this week's show we talk about the second-half comeback and the defensive play that allowed Geno one more shot at a win. Are the Seahawks going to get good Jameis or bad Jameis in this week's game against the Saints? Either way, the focus will be on stopping Alvin Kamara. He was also the guy to stop back in 2019 and still he combined for 150+ rushing and receiving yards and two touchdowns. With injuries to Alex Collins and Chris Carson, they may have to rely on a combination of Rashaad Penny, DeeJay Dallas and Travis Homer. In the second half of the show we reassess the outlook on the Arizona Cardinals. We also offer yet another reminder of the pick'em league rules as we attempt an iron fist policy on the Seahawks picks. It seemed the Steelers were heading toward—at best—a tie with the Geno Smith-led Seahawks on Sunday night. That's when T.J. Watt did what he does best, the most important thing a defensive player can do in the modern NFL: He took the ball back. Turnovers have been declining at a steady rate over the history of the NFL, and the number is on-pace to hit a new low again this season. Jenny and Gary discuss just what the takeaway means at a time when defenses are struggling more than ever to get off the field. Also, a look at how Watt is doing his part to keep defenses afloat with his aggressive approach to forcing turnovers. And a discussion of Trevon Diggs's historic pace on interceptions, and whether he can make a run at an INT record that hasn't really even been threatened since it was set in 1952.
